Hello Everyone,
if you have noticed, we have been putting up many blog entries about significant events and you must be wondering whether we would be coming out with restaurant/food reviews anytime soon. Well, today, I am going to introduce you to this place known as Ice Cube Cafe @ Serangoon Gardens.

About Ice Cube Cafe

Ice Cube Cafe is a really cosy cafe that serves homemade ice-creams, finger snacks, and cakes. It is located around Serangoon Gardens and to be exact, its address is 11 Kensington Park Road. Should you need to place an order for ice-cream cakes/need them to host your event, their contact number is 62828126.

Our Experience at Ice Cube Cafe

Well, we have been visiting Ice Cube Cafe frequently and we really love their cosy ambience. Most of the time, we would order ice-creams and seriously, you ought to try them as they taste really good. Not just the ice-creams alone, but you should also try their waffles. The service provided by the service staff is above average as they would recommend to us their specialties upon placing our orders. (they really know their products well) Well, besides ice-creams, they do have fingers snacks and main courses on their menu as well. The price here is reasonable and its worth checking out this place.

What is So Unique about Ice Cube Cafe?

Seriously, the unique selling point about Ice Cube Cafe is its cosy ambience and really premium quality ice-cream. If you prefer an alternative to the usual Swensen’s, Haagen Daaz, and Ben & Jerry’s, you should really visit the one and only Ice Cube Cafe in Singapore. For such high quality ice-creams, the price is really reasonable and what’s more, you can customised and tailor made your own ice-creams. The in-store promotions is also quite worth it, especially for Students who are looking for a really cool place to chill. And if you’re looking for ice-cream cakes for a special occasion such as birthdays, you ought to try the ice-cream cakes that Ice Cube Cafe has to offer.

Hello Everyone,
pardon my absence from the blogging scene for such a long time as I have been very packed with events, work, and studies! Finding time to blog now is really hard but no matter what, I will still try to put up a few entries weekly.

Well, today I am going to blog about Jack’s Place at Serangoon NeX.

Some Background Information About Jack’s Place (as extracted from their website <-< here)

Jack’s Place started when Mr. Say Lip Hai arrived in Singapore from Hainan island and started as a cookboy with the British troops in Sembawang learning how to prepare the perfect roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. After learning the skills, he started his first restaurant, which was called Cola Restaurant and Bar. The restaurant served the British and Commonwealth troops and their families residing in Sembawang neighborhood.

Mr. Say Lip Hai’s break came when a British housewife tasted the steak prepared by him and suggested that he start a catering business in her husband’s pub in Killiney Road. Her husband’s name was Jack Hunt. Mr. Say agreed with the condition that he take over the whole operation leading to the birth of the famous Jack’s Place Steak House. Jack Hunt sold the business to Mr. Say in 1967.

Today, the company is led by an aggressive management team, comprising of 2nd and 3rd generation family members and professional managers.

The Table Set-Up & Menu

IMG_0689

A pretty classic table set-up commonly found in fine dining restaurants. If you ask me, it looks very much like the setup for the restaurant service lesson that I had at Shatec Institutes. Nothing really fanciful.

What Baby and I Ordered @ Jack’s Place

Lobster Bisque Soup $4.40

IMG_0688

The Lobster Bisque Soup is tasty and flavourful; in fact, tiny pieces of lobster meat can be found in the soup although it isn’t much. However, I have had better Lobster Bisque elsewhere than what Jack’s Place could offer. As usual, the soup was not piping hot.

Baked Rice with Chicken $13.50

IMG_0692

I don’t really fancy cheesy stuffs, so this dish does not really appeal to me. On the other hand, Baby felt that it was so-so and just average.

Grilled Chicken $13.50

IMG_0691

Ok, the portion may look quite big but seriously, the taste didn’t quite meet up to my expectation for the price I paid. In fact, I could have gotten a much bigger portion at Aston’s and the taste of Aston’s Chargrill Chicken is way way better!

Banana Split with 3 Scoops of Ice-Cream $4.40

IMG_0695

I guess the only thing that’s probably ever nice and worth buying in Jack’s Place is their desserts. The Banana Split that I had was really fantastic given the fact that the portion is huge for the amount of money I paid. The bananas were really fresh and the ice-cream just made it a sweet ending to our dining experience at Jack’s Place although the main course wasn’t that great.

Chocolate Brownie with Chocolate Ice-Cream $4.40

IMG_0696

The Chocolate Brownie with Chocolate Ice-Cream was fantastic as well. The chocolate brownie was soft and chewy and the chocolate ice-cream complements the brownie really well. Thumbs Up for the presentation!

Overall Dining Experience

Overall, the service rendered by the service staffs were slightly above average and they were very courteous and polite. Food wise, I would not recommend Jack’s Place unless you’re going for steaks, escargots or desserts. If you have some spare cash, then you might just want to give Jack’s Place a try, otherwise, you could get better quality food elsewhere (for e.g. LENAS). The total cost for the both of us dining there was $52.45 and with this amount, we could have had a more sumptuous meal elsewhere. Nonetheless, there’s no harm dining at Jack’s Place if you’re loaded with moolah!

Bon Appetit!

Hello Everyone,
I have been wanting to try Cafe Cartel and have been putting off the idea for months until Baby and I decided to try out their desserts. The Cafe Cartel that we went to was the one located at Serangoon NeX. It opens for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner and they are open until 12am on weekends for desserts! So, anyway, we decided to go for desserts because they are offering a 50% discount on their cakes/desserts/coffee beverages from 9pm daily!

What We Ordered

Blackforest Cake $3.40

Eastside Chocolate Brownies with Chocolate Ice-Cream $5.25

Overall Dining Experience

By the way, we dined there twice for desserts and we had such a pleasant experience that we definitely would be visiting Cafe Cartel again. In fact, the price for desserts after 9PM is really worth it; given the quiet ambience and the quality of the desserts. If you’re planning for a gathering and you’re looking for a venue, you might just want to consider Cafe Cartel as they have huge space available to accommodate big groups of people. I shan’t really comment much on the quality of the desserts as I believe you should be able to tell it straight from the pictures.

The next time I visit Cafe Cartel, I will definitely want to try their hearty breakfast set!

Hello Everyone,
today I am going to introduce to you a very popular eating place known as Chomp Chomp located @ Serangoon Gardens. For those of you whom are expatriates in Singapore, you might just want to check out this place if you prefer an alternative to Newton Food Centre. Here, you can savour the local foodfare at really good prices. The atmosphere here is lively and very vibrant. With pubs that open till the wee morning, the night scene here is something to look out for if you just want a quiet drink in a neighbourhood kind of setting.

Chomp Chomp is a good eating place for big groups of people as well. However, one disadvantage is this, finding a place to sit down and have a dinner is difficult. It’s not impossible but its really tough, and you got to be really patient in order to find the perfect spot for dining. There are dozen of stores there selling BBQ food like Stingrays, Otah, Satay and there are also other stores that sells Desserts, Drinks, Popiah, Rojak, Oyster Omelette, Noodles and etc. To be really honest with you, each store has their own unique way of cooking and hence, the taste of a BBQ Sambal Stingray for example, may different from store to store. So, you got to really frequent Chomp Chomp and try ordering from different stores so as to find the perfect taste that you’re very comfortable with.

The best thing about eating at Chomp Chomp is probably the awesome pricing!  The food is not that expensive and its shown on the store’s signages, unlike the stores in Newton Food Centre that tends to rip people’s pockets unknowingly.

Rojak

IMG-20110903-00025

Popiah

IMG-20110903-00028

The Rojak cost me $3 while the Popiah cost me $2.40 for 2. Both of them are from the same store and they taste really really good! You should try it!

Oyster Omelette

IMG-20110903-00030

The Oyster Omelette is not bad but I might not buy from the same store ever again because the oysters are not  fresh! It cost $3 anyway. My friend, Aldaias knows the best place for Oyster Omelette and I will post an entry about that very soon!

Char Kway Teow

IMG-20110903-00029

The Char Kway Teow is average for my taste and it cost $3. In fact, the best Char Kway Teow I have ever tasted in my life is situated at Marine Parade Food Centre, near the Macdonald’s. The name of the store is Apollo Char Kway Teow. Do check it out and perhaps you might just know the reason why I say its the best Char Kway Teow.

Longan Drink

IMG-20110903-00031

The Longan Drink cost $3 but seriously, its very tantalising and super refreshing! What’s more, it’s so huge that it can serve 2 people!

Ice-Jelly Cocktail

IMG-20110903-00032

The Ice-Jelly Cocktail cost about $2 and the taste is just so-so. The jelly tastes super bland and its kinda hard. In fact, the best Ice-Jelly (or also otherwise known as AiYu Jelly) that I have ever tasted is the one my mum makes at home. So, its priceless. If you want to taste some or perhaps find out how my mother makes them, do drop me an email at melvin.ocs@gmail.com and I will share with you more.

The last dish that Baby and I ordered was the BBQ Chicken Wings which costs us about $4 plus for 4 pieces of chicken wings. Pardon me for not putting up any photo of the Chicken Wings as we were both so engrossed with the wings that in the heat of the moment, we totally forgotten to take a picture of them.

In total we spent less than $20 for 2 persons and that makes up about $10 per person. For such high quality and inexpensive food, there’s a reason to visit Chomp Chomp!

Bon Appetit!

8 Degrees Taiwanese Bistro- ????

Located @ 164 Yio Chu Kang Road, Singapore 545616

Contact Number: 62848226

Operating Hours: 6:00PM to 12:00AM

The Menu Cover Page

IMG_0664

Hello Everyone,

today, I am going to bring your attention to this new Taiwanese Bistro (opened about 6 months) called 8 Degrees. Situated in a little corner near the petrol kiosk along Yio Chu Kang Road, it might be easy to overlook this eatery.

From the outside, the Bistro looks compact and cosy and it wasn’t very crowded when Baby and I visited. When we entered the Bistro, we ourselves a corner table to settle down and listened to the Chinese oldies they were playing over their sound system. When we looked through their food menu, the food they serve are mostly the familiar local foodfare and western dishes, coupled together with some Taiwanese street foods for appetisers and side dishes. The desserts and beverages offered are pretty extensive too.

The Cosy Ambience of the Bistro

IMG_0665

IMG_0666

IMG_0667

IMG_0668

What We Ordered

Duo Mushroom Soup

IMG_0669

The duo mushroom soup tastes good. Furthermore, the deep-fried Chinese bun is served instead of the traditional garlic bread or hard roll which is often served to dip in soups, . The mushrooms used to make the soup is also very fresh. The only letdown was that the soup was not served piping hot. Being a soup lover myself, the mark of a restaurant in its ability to serve excellent soups would be the soup’s temperature. Hence, that is why, I always tell people that the best French soups I have ever tasted so far in my life, is the one being served as Saybons.

Salted Crispy Chicken

IMG_0674

According to Baby, the salted crispy chicken isn’t up to her expectations as she felt that the dish lacked a spicy fragrance. For me, I felt that it was ok.

Taiwanese Oyster Omelette

IMG_0670

Again, Baby felt that the oyster omelette that is served in Taiwan is way better than the one we had. However, I got to put the point across that similarly, what may taste great in Singapore (in terms of local foodfare), may not taste as great as those which are prepared overseas. (probably due to some missing ingredients that may not be found there) For me, this dish was alright. The oysters were fresh and the omelette was nicely cooked.

Taiwanese Sakura Shrimp and Prawn Fried Rice

IMG_0671

The fried rice tasted pretty ordinary. It’s very much like what you would find in the hawker or food centre. The fried rice was very fragrant and the portion is just nice for one person.

8 Degress Iced Yuan Yang

IMG_0672

Baby says that the Yuan Yang tasted alright. I don’t really fancy milk products so I can’t really comment on this one.

Honey Bubble Green Tea

IMG_0673

This was the drink that I ordered. Basically, I believe the concoction is Green Tea + Honey + Pearls. However, I felt that the quality of this drink could be further improved upon. The scent and the fragrance of the tea was very bland and minimal, in fact it almost tasted like plain water to me. As I believe they must have added quite a lot of honey, the sweetness of the honey slightly improved the bland taste of the water. The pearls were soft and chewy.

Toast with Honey and Butter

IMG_0675

IMG_0676

This has to be one of the better tasting toasts I ever had. The toast is pretty thick and it is laced with honey. Strawberries with chocolate sauce were also served by the side as an accompaniment. Having this dish ends of our meal perfectly. In fact, this toast puts Wanchai Hong Kong Kitchen @ NeX to shame!

Level of Service

Ok, I have to be brutally honest here. The level of service provided isn’t top notch and may be well lacking in certain areas. However, as the Bistro just opened for about 6  months mainly during the evenings, the level of service provided may be under average or perhaps just average. Speed and efficiency is lacking, and the service staffs probably lack communication between one another. So, visit the Bistro with an open mind and lower your expectations about the service level.

Overall Experience

We will definitely be visiting the Bistro again! There are many other food items available that we want to try and we hope that the next time we visit, things would have improved by then. In case you’re wondering, we spent a total of $45.60 for this visit. So, if you have spare cash to spend, you may want to check out this Bistro; otherwise, you might just want to wait a while for things to improve so that you get your money worth!

Bon Appetit!

Hello Everyone,
today I’m going to do a review about Wanchai Hong Kitchen @ Serangoon NeX.

How We Ended Up At Wanchai Hong Kong Kitchen

Baby and I wanted to try some desserts at Serangoon NeX and there are tons of stores that sells desserts. After walking a few rounds, we decided to give Wanchai Hong Kong Kitchen a try.

What We Ordered

Gingko Nut & Barley

IMG_0587

The Gingko Nut and Barley is not very sweet and tastes like the Quaker Oats my mum makes at home. I can’t even feel the beancurd skin on my tongue because it has been blended to a liquid state. In my opinion, its very average and nothing really special. For $3.30, its so not worth it!

Milk Pudding & Fresh Mango Sauce

IMG_0586

According to Baby, the Milk Pudding and Fresh Mango Sauce isn’t very fantastic because the taste is very bland. In her opinion, the $3.50 is not worth paying for!

Peanut Butter Toast

IMG_0590

This costs us $3.20 and to be brutally honest, its way below my expectations. The toast wasn’t as thick as it claims to be and in fact, even the average coffeeshop can make better tasting toasts than this. I have had better tasting toasts at other Hong Kong Cafes. This dish is simply just CRAP!

Overall Experience

The Whole Unpleasant Experience That Costs Us $10.70

IMG_0589

I don’t exactly know how their other dishes like appetisers and main courses taste like as we didn’t order them. But if the simple desserts we had are not even up to our expectations, I highly doubt their other dishes will be any different. All in all, we don’t recommend dining here for desserts as the price and quality are not correlated; You will be better off going for desserts elsewhere.

YUCKS!

Hello Everyone,
today I am going to introduce to you this restaurant called, “Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant” or “?????” in Chinese.

How We Ended Up At Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant?

As Baby and I decided that we would be heading to the Flea Market at the Singapore Arts Museum after our dinner, we decided to walk around Plaza Singapura in search of a good dining place for dinner. Initially, we wanted to go to Lao Beijing to eat but due to the overwhelming queue, we decided to head one level down and ended up at the shop front of Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant. Though we still had to queue, we didn’t mind as we were second in line and the food looked pretty tempting. In fact, we waited for about less than 10 minutes when we were brought to our seats.

That’s Me

Some Interesting Information About Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant

To preserve the culinary standards of Nanxiang in Shanghai. their kitchens here are helmed by veteran Chefs from the original restaurant in Cheng Huang Temple! The restaurant offers a unique interior decor theme that features the iconic Chinese bamboo baskets used for steaming buns.

Restaurant Service

The level of service rendered by the service staffs were average. Upon showing us to our seats, the waitress asked if it was our first time dining there. We said, “Yes!” and the waitress then proceeded to explain to us how we could go about ordering our food and even recommended us some of their well known dishes.

The Dishes that We Ordered

Our Appetiser

IMG_0598

Peanuts that cost $1. You can choose not to have it if you don’t want it.

Homemade Beancurd

IMG_0600

This dish is a recommended dish by the Chef and we decided to place an order for it. The beancurd was nicely fried and the fillings inside the beancurd were very fragrant. To me, it seemed and tasted like another kind of Dim Sum but really, we found this dish to be quite unique.

Pan-Fried Dumpling

IMG_0602

I have tried many pan-fried dumpling from many Chinese restaurants and I must say, the pan-fried dumpling that Nanxiang serves is pretty good. Usually, when I dine at other Chinese restaurants to try their pan-fried dumpling, their dumpling either ends up over-fried or under-fried, but for Nanxiang, their pan-fried dumpling is fried just nice. Over-fried dumplings are very hard to chew and the skin is hard while under-fried dumplings tend to be overly-glazed with oil.

Crabmeat Steamed Bun

IMG_0605

This dish is also recommended by the Chef and YES, YOU HAVE TO ORDER IT! When the steamed buns arrived on our table, we could smell the lovely aroma of the buns and we started to salivate. As we all would know, “xiao long bao” is a very delicate food and it must be handed with care so as to savour the natural juices of the filling in the bun. For this particular dish, the juices that ooze out of the fillings were very tasty and flavourful.

Minced Pork Noodles

IMG_0599

The minced pork noodles is cooked with black bean sauce and the taste of it reminds me of home. Why so? After eating a big mouthful of noodles, it really reminded me of the black bean fish that I always eat for dinner at home. If you are looking for something that taste rather homely and light, you might just want to try this.

Golden Fried Rice

IMG_0604

This is really a sweet and spicy tasting dish. In fact, I have to admit that this have to be one of the best-tasting fried rice I ever had. The servings of pork floss were very generous and the fried rice was extremely fragrant. Although the fried rice might have a “sambal” taste, there really isn’t any sambal added to it. The sweet taste comes from the pork floss while the spicy taste comes from the powdered chilli. This dish is perfect for those who wants something filling and good-tasting.

In Summary

In total, we spent $47.79  and because there is a 10% discount for DBS Cardholders, our final bill was $43.47. Its definitely a pretty reasonable price to dine here.

Hello Everyone,
I have been wanting to do a review about 2 stores selling traditional beancurd also known as “Tau Huay” in Hokkien or “Dou Hua” in Chinese and now is the time!

The two stores that I am going to do a review about is Min Eryimin and Rochor Tau Huay. Ironically, both stores are situated beside one another at 4 Short Street. The nearest MRT available there is Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station and they are open daily from 0800 to Midnight.

Some Background About Traditional Beancurd

The traditional beancurd has been highly regarded as an appetising dessert not just for the Chinese but also for the Malays, the Indians and many others. Churning out quality beancurd is tough and hardwork. In fact, making beancurd is an art. Despite being a simple process, it too can be a complicated one as well.

My Experience with Rochor Tau Huay

Frankly speaking, my friends brought me there to have a taste of their traditional beancurd and since then, I avoid going there unless my friends really want to go there. Otherwise, I would not recommend them to patronise the store. The traditional beancurd that is served there are silky smooth and tasted really good with the fried “you tiaos”. Although the beancurd they serve are of quality, their service are extremely horrendous. What really happened was as such; I was queuing up in line like any other person waiting to have my order taken and when my turn came, I told the stall auntie what I wanted to have. The stall auntie then began to prepare my orders. What happened next was very much unexpected. While waiting for my order to be ready, I was scolded by another stall auntie whom shouted loudly in Chinese asking what I wanted to order (although I have already placed my order). I politely told her that I had already placed my order and that the stall auntie who took my order was already preparing it. Then, the stall auntie who took and prepared my order served my order to the guest who was in front of me instead. I then proceeded to tell her that the order was mine but she scolded me and said that I didn’t place any order with her. I argued and was “shoo-ed” off by the stall auntie whom told me I needed to re-queue if I wanted to order. Pissed off with such lousy service, I decided to go to Min Eryimin instead. (I’m not the only one who feels this way, there are others who feel the same way too)

My Experience with Min Eryimin

Although Min Eryimin is not as crowded as Rochor Tau Huay, the beancurd they serve can be comparable as the beancurd that Rochor Tau Huay serves. However, what I really liked about this store was the friendliness of the stall uncle and auntie. Although one might argue that Min Eryimin is able to provide a higher level of service because there isn’t much guests, but trust me, I have been there countless times and sometimes, the stall do get overwhelmed by huge groups of diners and yet, the stall uncle and auntie are still very friendly and calm. Since the incident at Rochor Tau Huay, I have been dining at Min Eryimin instead and have seen its customer base growing steadily. Besides its seemingly better guest service, the beancurd that Min Eryimin serves is soft, smooth, and gleaming. It too tastes better with fried “you tiaos”. The stall auntie also shared that their beancurd is handmade every morning and the process of making it is a delicate art.

So Who’s Better In My Opinion?

Although the queue at Rochor Tau Huay is always long and its place always fully packed with diners, the service they rendered are definitely below expectations. Hence, Min Eryimin wins over Rochor Tau Huay in terms of the level of service provided. In terms of the quality of beancurd, both stores are almost comparable but the one served at Rochor Tau Huay is a tinge better than Min Eryimin. Nonetheless, I would definitely prefer Min Eryimin over Rochor Tau Huay because I am more particular about service than the quality of the food served. Hence, I would recommend Min Eryimin to tourists vising in Singapore and to the friends around me. How about you readers? Which do you prefer and why? Come share your thoughts with me!

Hello Everyone,
pardon me for my one day of absence from blogging due to my National Service commitment.

Today, I am going to blog about this awesome Japanese restaurant known as Tampopo Grand located at Ngee Ann City.

Ambience of the Restaurant

Although we (my mum, my brother, and I) visit the restaurant in the afternoon, it wasn’t very crowded nor packed. The restaurants gives diners a warmth and cosy ambience. There are even private dining rooms available for privacy!

What We Ordered

My brother ordered a Tampopo Set B, My mum ordered a Tenzaru Soba (sorry no picture of that), and I ordered a Sashimi and Sushi Set. For side dishes, we only ordered the Shishamo. In total, the bill amounted to $88.60 before taxes. The beautiful thing about dining here was that we were given this special loyalty members card where every $10 we spent, we could earn one stamp. Upon reaching 18 stamps, we would be entitled to a 50% discount off the total bill for our next visit!

Overall Dining Experience

  • The Sashimi and Sushi was very fresh and neatly sliced.
  • Chawanmushi was serve warm and not piping hot, pretty disappointing.
  • The appetiser and soup tasted pretty average.

This was our second time dining at Tampopo Grand and honestly, I felt that the pricing was pretty reasonable for the quality of food we had. Although Ichiban (another Japanese restaurant that I usually frequent) serves a rather similar Sashimi and Sushi Set as Tampopo Grand,  I felt that Tampopo Grand’s was way much better, considering the fact that they are almost similarly priced. The Sashimi at Tampopo Grand is really fresh and neatly cut, unlike some Japanese restaurants where there were even bones found on the Sashimi! The tempura was evenly-fried and was not very oily, and the Shishamo was grilled crisp and nice. Hence, I daresay that Tampopo Grand is worth visiting if you are looking for quality Japanese foodfare.

Psst. Don’t tell anyone, but I’m going to visit Tampopo Grand again to get my 50% discount. Anybody want to tag along? =P

Bon Appetite!

Hello Everyone,
today I am going to put up yet another food review again. I have done a review of Sakon Thai Restaurant on my previous website before, but because of a strong demand for a repost, here’s the LATEST and UPDATED review.

Address of Sakon Thai: Blk 152 Serangoon North Ave 1, #01-304

Contact Number: +65 6288 8225 (you can call and make a reservation, peak periods are usually from 7PM onwards)

Introduction:

Baby and I have dined at this popular Thai restaurant for 3 times already and the food served here has never once failed us. What is probably so attractive about dining at this restaurant is the affordability and value-for-money dining experience. However, for all of our visits to the same outlet at Serangoon North, their utensils are always not washed properly and hence, this is quite a turn off for those of us who are pretty particular about hygiene. Service level was slightly above average as most of the service staffs are from Thailand (Thai people are really friendly and they attend to people really well).

The Dishes That We Ordered From All Of Our Visits:

Sakon Thai Restaurant

Sakon Thai

Sakon Thai Restaurants serves really good AUTHENTIC THAI FOOD at really affordable prices!

Ambience of the Restaurant

Ambience

The restaurant has a pretty cosy kind of ambience. Great for dining in big groups or with family members.

Porcelain Wares Used for Sauces

Porcelain Wares

From what I understand, neighbourhood restaurants seldom use Porcelain Wares to serve condiments due to the expensive price, but Sakon Thai does it and this probably increases the visual appeal of the dishes they serve.

Stuffed Chicken Wings *MUST TRY*

Stuffed Chicken Wings

The Stuffed Chicken Wings is a dish you MUST TRY although the waiting time for it can be quite long. The chicken is soft and tender and as you sink your teeth into it, you will realise that the chicken is actually boneless and that the meat is stuffed with wholesome chestnuts. It’s worth the wait!

Spicy Mango Salad

Spicy Mango Salad

Honestly, I didn’t really fancy this dish as it was pretty spicy and the mango salad was way too sour for my liking. I still prefer the one that is served at ThaiExpress.

Tom Yum Seafood Clear Soup

Tom Yam Seafood Clear Soup

It is incomplete to have a Thai meal without Tom Yum Soup and so we ordered one and boy, it tasted really good. For me, I find that the spicyness of the soup was just right and the seafood they added, such as prawns, sotongs, sliced fish meats were very fresh. You can have a choice of thick soup or clear soup and for your information, thick soup is more spicy than clear soup.

Thai Pineapple Fried Rice

Pineapple Fried Rice

The Thai Pineapple Fried Rice is probably quite similar in taste as those which I tried in other restaurants but I like the fact that Sakon Thai’s Pineapple Fried Rice is served with meat floss, making the dish slightly sweet-tasting to complement the sour taste of the pineapple.

Honey Chicken with Egg Rice

Honey Chicken with Egg Rice

The next time I visit Sakon Thai, I would probably order this dish for myself because when I had a bite of the honey chicken, it tasted heavenly. The honey chicken was juicy, tender, and sweet. I would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND this dish.

Phad Thai Chicken

Phad Thai Chicken

When I ate this dish, it really reminded me of my two Thai friends who once cooked the same dish as well. The taste was really authentic and the serving was pretty generous. What I probably didn’t quite like was the chicken as it was overcooked.

Thai Red Ruby Dessert

Red Ruby

The first time I tried the Red Ruby Dessert at ThaiExpress, I quite like it and hence decided to try out the Red Ruby that is served at Sakon Thai. The Red Ruby served at Sakon Thai is not that sweet (for those who are limiting their intake of sugar, this could be quite a welcoming dessert) and the taste is just right. However, the coconut ice-cream served was pretty much melted so I didn’t quite like it. Personally, I still fancy the Red Ruby that’s served at ThaiExpress.

Thai Iced Tea

Thai Iced Tea

The Thai Ice Tea wasn’t that fantastic because it has a rather odd burnt taste. So, we don’t recommend this one unless you have spare cash and want to try it out. Sakon Thai serves ice-water at no additional charge.

Overall Dining Experience?

Sakon Thai is worth checking out. From all our visits to Sakon Thai, our average bill per person is no more than $20 and to me, that really is great value for an authentic taste of Thai food. What’s more, they don’t charge the 10% service charge as well. So, the next time you are craving for some authentic Thai Food and you are around Serangoon, do remember to try Sakon Thai!

Bon Appetite!
