Hello Everyone,
this is one long overdue blog post but nevertheless, I am really excited to share this particular entry with you all.

Thanks to OMY.SG and Food Republic, a group of bloggers and I were invited to an EXCLUSIVE interactive brunch session with the stellar food operators of 112 Katong Food Republic! Just in case you’re wondering where in the world is 112 Katong, it’s actually at the Old Katong Mall. In fact, when I entered 112 Katong, I was totally awestruck by the 180 degrees transformation that I couldn’t believe with my very own eyes that this was the Old Katong Mall!

From Food Republic Hawker’s King Campaign

So much for the introduction. When I arrived at Food Republic, I was so mesmerised by their entire new decoration and floor concept! Unlike your typical eateries like Food Junction or even Banquet, Food Republic usually stands out the most because of its intricate interior decorations. In fact, Food Republic at Vivocity, Wisma Atria, Serangoon NeX, Suntec City all have their own unique designs and this particular Food Republic at 112 Katong Mall is no exception.

From Food Republic Hawker’s King Campaign

For the Food Republic at 112 Katong, the design and floor concept has a rather executive kitchen kind of feel and because every food stores there have a transparent glass where you can literally see your food being prepared and cooked, you can be rest assured that your food is cooked 100% hygienically [is there even such a word?]. From the photographs, you can see that the food stores has a clean executive look to it!

So before the brunch session actually started, Baby and I were walking around to check out the place and take some photographs, and guesswhat?!, they even have an outdoor water park that is similar to the one at Serangoon NeX Shopping Mall; yes, right outside the Food Republic!

Hello Everyone,
recently Baby and I were on the hunt for awesome local Singaporean food and because we wanted to try other places beside the usual Chomp Chomp at Serangoon Gardens, we decided to go to the Old Airport Road Food Centre!

The journey to Old Airport Road Food Centre by car was a pretty tricky one. In fact, I mistaken Airport Road as the Old Airport Road and thus took a little longer than usual to get there. If you are travelling by public transport, the most easiest way to get there would be to take the Circle Line Train and alight at Dakota Station, which is a 10 mins walk from there.

Well, when we arrived at Old Airport Road Food Centre, it was bustling with many people and we even saw some people carrying bags of Lao Ban Tau Huay! Thankfully, we managed to get a seat and we were totally spoilt for choices as there were so many sumptuous food to choose from.

Here are what we ordered:

Rojak

From Old Airport Road 2012

The Rojak was fantastic because the dark shrimp sauce wasn’t excessively added. In fact, we felt that the taste was gentle on our palates and the Rojak was tantalising and sweet.

Popiah

From Old Airport Road 2012

The Popiah wasn’t that good as compared to the ones we had at Serangoon Garden’s Chomp Chomp. The fillings were cold and were not flavourful.

Oyster Egg Omelette

From Old Airport Road 2012

The Oyster Egg Omelette was superb. Great in taste and the oysters were extremely fresh. Personally, I felt that it was quite starchy.

Black Carrot Cake

From Old Airport Road 2012

The Black Carrot Cake was pretty much average. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Chicken Satay

From Old Airport Road 2012
From Old Airport Road 2012

We must say, the Chicken Satay was quite different from the ones we had elsewhere. It was extremely tender and sweet in taste. The store that we ordered this Satay from even sells Black Pepper Satay. It’s a pity we didn’t try the Black Pepper Satay as we were so full.

Lao Ban Tau Huay

From Old Airport Road 2012

Seeing everyone with bags of Lao Ban Tau Huay, we were tempted to try how it tasted like. So, when I finally found the Lao Ban Tau Huay store, long queues of people were already forming from one end to another end. I waited for almost 15 minutes before placing my order. Well, to be honest, when we tried the Lao Ban Tau Huay, we didn’t quite like the taste. I guess its probably subjective to each and every individual’s taste buds because we have heard many friends commenting about how good Lao Ban Tau Huay was. For us, we still prefer our traditional bean curd at Selegie! =)

In Summary:

Old Airport Road Food Centre offers a wide variety of local Singaporean food to choose from and it would be a food haven for all the food lovers out there. This would not be our last time there and we will definitely be back to visit again to try the other tempting foods that we have yet to set our tongues on. If you’re from outside of Singapore and you’re planning to visit anytime soon, do check out the Old Airport Road Food Centre. At this juncture, we want to advise those whom are visiting the Old Airport Road Food Centre to dress as comfortably as you can so that you won’t feel uncomfortable in the humid atmosphere.

Stay tuned for more updates from us!

Hello Everyone,
this has got to be one of the hottest news I suppose! Hot Star Large Fried Chicken just opened its new outlet at Serangoon NeX Shopping mall. Prior to this, it has another outlet in City Square Mall and honestly speaking, I felt that they have made the right decision to open its latest outlet at Serangoon NeX Shopping Mall. Now, what’s this hype all about? Ok, let me explain why. Before Hot Star Large Fried Chicken made its debut in Singapore, loads of Singaporeans whom crave for Taiwan’s popular fried chicken would flock to Shilin Street Snacks store. And seriously, the fried chicken at Shilin Street Snacks store is kinda small in portion. Don’t get me wrong here, Baby and I were frequent patrons of Shilin Street Snacks store but ever since we tasted Hot Star’s Large Fried Chicken when we were in Taiwan, we felt that Hot Star’s was way much better.

This is the authentic Hot Star Large Fried Chicken store in Shilin, Taiwan.

From Taipei Day 1

And you guys might remember this photo of me when I did a review of my holiday trip to Taipei.

From Taipei Day 1

So… both Baby and I were really excited when we saw that Hot Star would be opening an outlet at Serangoon NeX Shopping Mall. This photo was taken on 17 March 2012 and the outlet was still under renovation.

From Hot Star

And well, we were there yesterday and the outlet is fully operational!

From Hot Star
From Hot Star

Naturally, both Baby and I were really excited and we just could not wait to try it out and see if the taste of the fried chicken was similar to the one we had back in Taiwan!

This is the entire range of food that they sell and I must say, its quite extensive!

From Hot Star

And to celebrate their latest opening, Hot Star is having a promotion and it is extremely value for money!

From Hot Star

Ok, after placing our order, we have to wait extremely long because the queue was super uber long! Previously, it was Shilin Street Snacks that had extremely long queues, but now, the tide has changed and Hot Star is getting the crowds that Shilin Street Snacks previously used to have.

Similar as Shilin Street Snacks, you could see the service staffs in action!

From Hot Star

And so, here were the food that we ordered.

The Large Fried Chicken [seriously, when we sank our teeth into the juicy fried chicken, it tasted exactly the same as the one we had at Taiwan! Truly authentic! Well, we are really glad that Hot Star decided to open outlets here in Singapore and if you haven’t try Hot Star yet, what are you waiting for?]

From Hot Star

Wasabi Fries [eh my mouth was quite itchy so I decided to order this to curb my craving, and well, it was awesome!]

From Hot Star

Sour Plum Sweet Potato [this came complimentary as Hot Star was having a promotion to celebrate its opening. As it was my first time trying this, I was rather skeptical about how it would taste but lo and behold, it was really excellent! The sweet and sour taste of the sweet potato is just so amazing that I would definitely recommend it to my mum whom likes this kind of sweet sour food!]

From Hot Star

Well, having said so much about Hot Star, I am really glad that Hot Star is not just available in Singapore but its very much available at Serangoon NeX Shopping Mall, which is just 10 minutes away from my home. So, expect to see me patronising Hot Star quite frequently!

Hello Everyone,
Baby and I recently dined at the Hot Tomato Cafe and Grill which is situated at Serangoon NeX Shopping Mall and here’s our review:

What We Ordered:

Baby ordered the Dory Fish Set Meal and I ordered the Roasted Chicken Set Meal. And by the way, each set meal comes with a bowl of Mushroom Soup and a glass of lemon tea.

Quality of Food:

In terms of portion size, both our set meals were just right. The mushroom soup was served piping hot and it was flavourful, just the way I like the temperature of soups to be. The lemon tea was usual, nothing out of the ordinary. For just the mushroom soup and lemon tea, it cost us $3.50

From Hot Grill Tomato
From Hot Grill Tomato

The dory fish was served with salad by the side and spaghetti aglio olio as starch. Well, the tartar sauce was tangy in taste and the spaghetti aglio olio was cooked al-dente [meaning firm to the bite]. The dory fish was cooked just right but nothing extraordinary to mention here.

From Hot Grill Tomato

As for the roasted chicken, I was pretty disappointed because the chicken tasted really plain and the meat was quite soggy. In fact, I requested for more brown sauce just so that I can eat the roasted chicken with ease. But to be honest, even the brown sauce wasn’t that fantastic as it lacks flavour and is way too starchy to the point that it coagulates easily. All isn’t that bad though, I liked the salad for its tangy taste.

From Hot Grill Tomato

The Service Experience:

I must say, the service rendered by the service staffs were outstanding. The service staffs were really prompt in serving us and were also very courteous.

Our Overall Dining Experience:

Seriously, I think this would perhaps be our first and last dining experience at Hot Tomato Cafe and Grill. Even though the service was fantastic, the quality of the food was simply below expectations. In total, we spend $29.20 for a dinner like this and we felt that it was way too pricey especially when the quality of the food does not match up to its value. So, we would probably not recommend Hot Tomato Cafe and Grill.

Stay tuned for more updates from us!

Hello Everyone,
two weeks ago, Baby and I embarked on our keep-fit exercise regime and we actually blogged about our experience at the Sengkang Swimming Complex. So what is this keep-fit exercise regime all about? Well, as Baby and I want to lead a healthy lifestyle and shed some weight, we decided to take part/participate in a sports-related activity once every two weeks on a weekend.

So for this week, we actually planned a hiking trip from MacRitchie Reservoir Park to the HSBC Tree Top Walk! This is going to be one long blog entry so we hope you would read the entire entry and enjoy the wonderful photos that we have taken. Truly, this was one experience that we will never forget because we have had the opportunity to see the more rustic side of Singapore!

If you are planning to do a hike like ours, here’s some items that you might want to prepare:-

Clothings:

Dress as light and comfortable as you can. Baby and I wore a dri-fit light coloured shirt and shorts! As for footwear, sports shoes/combat boots is highly recommended!

Things to Pack:

A 1.5L water bottle filled with water, a basic first aid kit [containing antiseptic cream, bandages, and plasters], insect repellent, a camera, and a maglite torch light [optional].

For our hike, we actually chose Route 3 [its 10.3 KM long and took us about 3 hours to complete] because we wanted a trail that is challenging! Click here <– for a map of the MacRitchie Trails

Photos of our pre-hike to the starting point of our trail!

Here’s something to note! If you are planning to go on this hike, I highly recommend that you don’t attempt this alone [although you do see many people doing so] because the stretch is long and secluded [remember the case where a lady jogger was raped and killed?]. So yes, I would suggest that you attempt this hike with a few friends. Also, I would suggest that you bring along a maglite torch for defensive reasons. In the event that you don’t have any weapon on hand, you could use the stones and bricks you find along the way as weapons too! [though I hope that nothing nasty would happen to any of you who are going for this hike]

Also, we came across a family of 3 with a baby stroller asking for directions to the HSBC Tree Top Walk! Like ehhh… shouldn’t they have known that it’s going to be a dirt trail and not a road trail? Bringing a baby stroller is DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED!

From MacRitchie Hiking 240312

Oh, and Baby spotted this particular golf ball along the trail. Seriously, the trail is very close to the Singapore Island Country Club where there are golfers doing their golfing, so we are really concerned that golf balls might just come our way. So, do be careful and be wary of your surroundings! Not just that, I was walking very close to a huge monitor lizard without realising it but thankfully, Baby spotted it and shouted at me to avoid it.

Like I say, animals are really upclose and within touchable distance. So, if you encounter monkeys along the way, do not be afraid. Most importantly, DO NOT feed them and DO NOT look at them in the eyes. The whole gin gang might attack you if they sense your fear!

And yes, you don’t get to see natural sceneries like this everyday in Singapore unless you go to the MacRitchie Reservoir Park!

Finally, on our way back, we saw this cheeky monkey seeking for food and well, it really saddens us that there are irresponsible people who just leave their trash lying around.

Having completed the entire trail of 10.3KM in about 3 hours, it was time for us to really chill and take a break! The MacRitchie Reservoir Park has a cafe known as the Mushroom and though their prices are slightly on the high side, the portions are extremely huge too!

We ordered a bowl of mushroom soup for $3.90 but it was quite worth it because of its huge portion!

Conclusion for the day:

Well, Baby and I really enjoyed ourselves during this hike because not only could we keep fit, but we could also enjoy the beautiful natural sceneries of Singapore that are not commonly seen. Although we have heard of many people whom have went on the HSBC Tree Top Walk, we also know that not many people would want to go on a hike of 10.3 KM like ours but rather choosing the shorter route. By completing this long arduous hike, it gave us a sense of motivation, satisfaction, and accomplishment because we completed the 10.3 KM hike together and have taken away with us amazing photos of Mother Nature! And truly, sometimes we Singaporeans are just so busy with our work that we don’t stop and take a look around at what nature has to offer us but really, why not just take some time off and let nature reinvigorate your inner being?!

In case you are wondering, the photos as shown here are all taken with the iPhone 4GS camera. So, don’t belittle what the iPhone 4GS camera can do.

About MacRitchie Reservoir Park

MacRitchie Reservoir Park serves as a gateway to the nature reserves. It has become a popular spot for nature lovers and exercise enthusiasts. It is also a great place for morning and evening walks or strolls along the water’s edge.

MacRitchie Reservoir Park now boasts a green two-storey carpark with 300 parking lots. Its upper deck collects rainwater and channels them into a bioswale. Bioswales are landscape elements designed to remove silt and pollution from surface runoff water.

The reservoir also has an amenities centre equipped with toilets, showering facilities, lockers, drinking fountains and a food kiosk. Our reservoir deck is an ideal venue for warm-ups and for holding events like cross-country. Being a popular venue for water activities, it also has a newly improved pontoon for kayakers and our upgraded canoe shed will be ready by mid-2011.

MacRitchie Reservoir is one of the four reservoirs that bound the nature reserves. Other reservoirs include Lower Peirce Reservoir, Upper Peirce Reservoir and Upper Seletar Reservoir. Serving as water catchment areas, forests surrounding these reservoirs are protected from agriculture activities in order to ensure the quality of water.

About HSBC Tree Top Walk

The HSBC TreeTop Walk (HSBC TTW) is the highlight of several long hiking routes in MacRitchie that brings you through different stages of mature secondary forest. The first of its kind in Singapore and in the region, this free-standing suspension bridge connects the two highest points (Bukit Peirce and Bukit Kalang) in MacRitchie and offers a bird’s eye view of the community of plants and animals that live in the forest canopy. The total length of the walkway is about 250m and its height from the forest floor varies, with the highest point at 25m.

Besides providing another avenue for nature recreation for Singaporeans, the HSBC TTW also play an important role in forest canopy research, an area many researchers were not able to get into because of lack of access. This bridge will help to facilitate surveys and plant identification work and further our understanding of how forest ecosystems work.

The HSBC TTW was officially launched by the Minister of State for Finance and Transport, Mrs. Lim Hwee Hua, on 5th November 2004. The event also marked the start of another collaboration between NParks and HSBC that will reap benefits for the community. As part of efforts to enhance the HSBC TreeTop Walk as an outdoor classroom to promote an interest and appreciation of the natural sciences, HSBC and NParks established the HSBC-GCF (Garden City Fund) TreeTop Walk Fund to support a host of programmes and activities for conservation, education and outreach. This includes programmes for school children, workshops for teachers, training of nature guides as well as the production of educational materials.

The distance to the entrance of the TreeTop Walk is approximately 4.5 km (1.5 – 2 hour walk) from the MacRitchie Reservoir Park and 2.5 km (45 mins – 1 hr walk) from the carpark at Venus Drive. Therefore, a round trip including the TreeTop Walk is about 7 to 10 km (3-5 hours depending on your walking pace)

Hello Everyone,
Baby and I recently dined at Nando’s Chicken @ Plaza Singapura and for those of you whom haven’t tried Nando’s yet. You just gotta try it!

The Service Experience:

As there was no queue, we were promptly attended by the service staffs and upon entering, the service staffs greeted us “Welcome” in another language [probably in African since Nando’s originated there]. However, the greeting weren’t as enthusiastic and welcoming like the experience which we’ve had at Manhattan Fish Market @ Plaza Singapura. They probably tried to copy their concept but it just didn’t worked out. Having been shown to our seats, the service staff presented the menu to us and the rest was standard operating procedure [S.O.P].

I kinda like their condiments set and the way they present it. Not only that, it kept us occupied while waiting for our meals to be served as we logged onto their Facebook Page to see what they have on offer.

From Nandos Chicken @ Plaza Singapura

By the way, they don’t only serve chicken.

From Nandos Chicken @ Plaza Singapura

Baby’s 1st time dining at Nando’s and she just can’t wait to order and try their food!

From Nandos Chicken @ Plaza Singapura

As you can see from the above picture, Nando’s recently launched their new dish, the Cataplana. Well, we have yet to try that but we perhaps might give it a shot the next time we dine at Nando’s.

The Food Experience:

Baby ordered the Espetada [which is something like a chicken kebab] with Colesaw and Mediterranean Rice as sides while I ordered the 1/4 Chicken with Peri Chips and Peri Corn as sides. While the concept is quite similar to Aston’s where you can choose the sides from a variety of choices, what is really special about Nando’s is that you get to choose the level of spicy-ness you want the sauce to be on your Chicken. Baby chose the Mild Peri-Peri flavour [which the service staff recommended for beginners] while I went for the Hot Peri-Peri flavour.

Baby’s order. The Mediterranean Rice was very flavourful and we both liked it alot! It is really different and unique in taste. The colesaw was also pretty appetising and the chicken kebab was grilled to perfection. The meal portion size is also perfect for a lady [not for guys though, since we’re big eaters].

From Nandos Chicken @ Plaza Singapura

My order. I like their Peri Chips and Peri Corn because the seasoning powder just made it really tasty and flavourful. However, I personally felt that the Peri Corn was quite small in portion and the corn wasn’t sweet enough. The 1/4 Chicken was grilled to perfection and coupled with the Hot Peri-Peri sauce, it just made everything tasted so heavenly with its aroma. And just in case you’re wondering if the Peri-Peri sauce is that spicy, well it’s not! You just need a while to get used to the spicy-ness and thereafter, you will find yourself pouring more sauce.

From Nandos Chicken @ Plaza Singapura

The Verdict:

Yes, we strongly recommend you to try Nando’s Chicken! Though the service could use some improvement, the quality of the food kinda made up for the shortfall in service. If the service could have been better, I think it would have been quite an extremely positive dining experience. Oh, but one thing is this, the pricing is slightly above-average for the average diner [meaning to say, its quite pricey as compared to Aston’s or even Manhattan Fish Market]. So I guess while we might dine at Nando’s again, we would probably only do so like once every 3 months.

Some Additional Information:

I personally liked the way Nando’s markets itself. In fact, I found their Facebook Page to be rather interactive and even their website is quite cool as well! From time to time, they even have contests and exciting promotions going on so do check out the links and see what they have to offer to you.

Hello Everyone,
Baby and I were passing by along Upper Paya Lebar Road in search of a good place for dinner and we chanced upon this stall known as the Old Street Bah Kut Teh. Since the store had an “atas” look  and they have received some culinary awards, we decided to give it a try.

As we were rushing for time, we didn’t ordered much. But this one dining experience was a complete mistake and it would be our first and last. We’ll explain why.

One look at the menu and the pricing was quite a turn-off already.

From Old Street Bah Kut Teh

The most important that that I want to comment about this store is the lousy service provided by the service staffs. In most of the Bah Kut Teh stores that we have been to, most of the service staffs would attend to us, take our orders, and then serve our food when it was ready. Apparently, at this particular Bah Kut Teh store, it is more of a self-service concept where you have to go to the cashier, place your order, and wait for the service staff to serve your food. While I do understand the concept of self-service, the great disappointment was seeing other guests whom had questions about the dish and when they raise their hands to seek the attention of the service staffs to ask them some questions about the dish, the service staffs promptly assumed that the guests wanted to place an order and gestured them to the cashier without even listening and thinking. We observed that it was not just one guest whom were treated this way but in fact, most of the guests were treated like that. Surly, this wasn’t a really polite way of attending to guests.

After placing our orders with the cashier, we were given this number tag so that the service staff could bring our food to our table when its ready.

From Old Street Bah Kut Teh

We ordered the pork ribs soup and seriously, the soup wasn’t that great. It lacked the flavour of the traditional Bak Kut Teh and tasted more like plain water. As always, I expect soups to be served piping hot but well, this store failed in meeting that expectation I have for soups. The meat was very tough and even when we asked to have our soup to be refilled, it was still not piping hot.

From Old Street Bah Kut Teh

And we also ordered the pig’s kidney soup. Soup wasn’t served piping hot and the kidney wasn’t cooked properly.

From Old Street Bah Kut Teh

While we didn’t get to taste the rest of their dishes and wouldn’t be able to comment much about the food, this one dining experience was so bad that we would not patronise them again. Simply put, the service wasn’t that great and the quality of the food didn’t quite meet our expectations. This would in fact be our first and last visit to Old Street Bah Kut Teh unless they could lower their price, improve on their service, and serve better quality food. We have learnt not to judge books by their cover. Just because the store has an “atas” look and won some culinary awards, it doesn’t mean that their food and service is great. For now, I guess we will continue to stick to our usual Bah Kut Teh store that we always frequent.

Hello Everyone,
I am very sure many of you would have heard of Pastamania and would also probably have dined there at least once.

For Baby and I, we have dined at Pastamania [Cineleisure/Serangoon Nex] a couple of times and we have always enjoyed the pastas that are served there. Well in any case, if you are popping by the North East and you are craving for some wholesome pastas, you might want to consider dropping by Pastamania @ Serangoon NeX Shopping Mall! [well, not many people know that Serangoon NeX Shopping mall has a Pastamania Outlet]

And if you’re the sort of person whom prefers to stay home and bum around, Pastamania also has a delivery service! Well, you could either call them at 6275 7555 or you could use your Android/iPhone to download the Pastamania App and order your favourite pasta as well.

For an extensive menu of Pastamania, you could find it here <– and for any promotions that Pastamania is having, you can click here <–

To be very honest, I have always liked Pastamania because not only are the pastas of high quality, but their prices are extremely reasonable. The portion of the pasta is just nice and the culinary skills of the kitchen staff are superb!

In any case, if you are planning to have a birthday celebration or function, you could also make a reservation for their private dining area that is available at Serangoon Nex Shopping Mall. The private dining area can sit up to a maximum of 50 people. Also, I particularly like the interior decorations and furnishings of the Pastamania outlet at Serangoon NeX Shopping Mall. It’s quite unique and if you’re planning to bring your date there for pastas, they have tables by the window where you can look out and admire the landscape of Serangoon HDB Flats [not much of a fantastic view if you ask me, but well, better than nothing.]

Here are just some photos of our last visit to Pastamania!

Typical garlic bread, nothing really extraordinary as it is just for dipping into the soup. I would prefer that the bread be softer.

Hello Everyone,
Baby and I have personally dined at The Paramount Restaurant which was situated at The Paramount Hotel on two occasions. On the first occasion, we had a taste of their sumptuous classic buffet and on the second occasion, we had a taste of their exquisite Dim Sums. Well, sad to say, for those of you whom have never been to The Paramount Restaurant, you probably would not have the opportunity to dine there again because its last day of business was just a few days ago, on 29 February 2012 to be exact.

About The Paramount Restaurant
The Paramount Restaurant was part of the Tunglok Group and it’s interior design and structure had a romanised feel to it, thus making it a perfect/ideal venue for holding functions, especially wedding banquets. Throughout its 20 years of service, many happy memories were made, from weddings and anniversaries to birthdays and gatherings. In fact, many of the restaurant’s guests were regular diners and they are truly fond of the place. Personally, I shared similar sentiments because when I dined there last week, I could see that the service staffs whom had been working there for many years (waiters/captains) were pretty sad that this place which they call their second home would be torn down. I could just see it from their eyes and faces as they do their best to serve their guests for the last time at The Paramount Restaurant, the best they know how. Today, if employers can make employees feel so attached and loyal to their companies/organisations, I am very sure that whatever business they are doing would be highly successful because the employees will have a sense of ownership and give in their 101% efforts.

Looking from the photos, I am very sure you could tell that the food are quite delicious and the best part is, it didn’t cost a bomb/hole in the pocket. However, as I have mentioned, sadly, this place will be greatly missed for not just its awesome food, but also for the fond memories regular diners have had there as well! I wonder, how many of such restaurants in Singapore can give guests such a sense of nostalgic moment? Hmm…

Hello Everyone,
Baby and I recently dined at the Manhattan Fish Market that is situated at Plaza Singapura and I must say, we have had one of the most amazing and interesting dining experiences there. So, when I arrived there early just so that I could queue up and grab seats for us, there was already quite a long queue forming all the way to Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe. While waiting for our turn, Aladdin [one of the service staff whom was at the queue stand] distributed menus to those of us whom were in the queue and approached us to enquire how many of us were going to dine. Ok, a side note here, this is one practise that most restaurants do when they face long queues of guests waiting to dine at their restaurants and its a norm just so they could keep guests entertained while waiting. But here’s the amazing part, Aladdin took out a tray of drinks in mini plastic cups and served it to everyone whom were waiting in the queue! Now that’s something really extraordinary. Having worked at many F&B outlets in the past and having dined at so many restaurants, Manhattan Fish Market at Plaza Singapura is one of the rare few that treats their guests to a cup of drink while waiting in line! Kudos to them for the excellent initiative!

So when it was our turn and we entered the restaurant, everyone of the service staff [ok they call themselves, sea-cret agent!] greeted us with a big “Welcome!” in unison. We were so blown away by the warm welcome that Baby said that it was indeed a rare sight for a restaurant to be so welcoming and happening! One of the sea-cret agent [I think her name was Myein or Wyein] presented us with the menu and because Baby had a coupon that has this one-for-one promotion, we decided to give it a go and ordered a set of Fish and Chips which comes with a Clam Chowder Soup and any one drink in the beverage menu. Just to add, the sea-cret agent was very knowledgeable with the food and beverage served in Manhattan Fish Market as well.

From Manhattan Fish Market 2012

Our beverages were served rather promptly. I had the Citrus Mint while Baby had the Cala Cala, and I have to say this, their beverages are not just top in quality but also top  in terms of presentation!

The Cala Cala! [Baby said it was neither very sour nor very sweet. In fact, it was rather balanced and she liked it alot.]

From Manhattan Fish Market 2012

The Citrus Mint! [Baby found this drink to be quite leafy in taste but I kinda like it because I have always been chewing on mint leafs since I was 12.]

From Manhattan Fish Market 2012

Here’s the flavourful Clam Chowder which I really love. Its not very creamy in taste and its filled with generous portions of superb tasting seafood. Not only that, the texture of the soup was just nice and the soup was served piping hot, the way I like my soups to be!

From Manhattan Fish Market 2012

While waiting for our main course, Baby and I were entertaining ourselves by taking photos of one another.

And here comes the huge portion of Fish and Chips!

Our entire dinner for the day!

From Manhattan Fish Market 2012

Seriously, the portion was so humongous that even Baby and I could not finish the entire plate of Fish and Chips. In fact, if you are deciding to dine there, we would recommend you to share one plate of Fish and Chips with another person because its really alot even for an above-average eater like me. It can also save you money too!

Just in case you want to know where the restaurant is exactly located, its on the 6th level of Plaza Singapura and they are opened till 10pm daily. For reservations or menu enquiries, you can call their number at 6835 9300.
