Hello Everyone,
thanks to an invitation from Dawn [the blogger of 365 Days to Play and Eat], I had the privilege to attend the Zespri 14-Day Daily Scoop of Amazing Challenge Kick-Off Dinner that took place at The Living Cafe and I gotten the opportunity to meet other bloggers [like Maureen, the blogger of Miss Tam Chiak and Ai Sakura, the blogger of Sakura Haruka] during the event too! Not only that, I was treated to a wholesome, delicious, nutritious, and tasty Kiwifruit-inspired 4-Course Dinner; and I also learnt about the health benefits of Zespri Kiwifruit through this event. So, read on to find out more!

So, the dinner took place at Upper Bukit Timah Road and because I was early, I was able to go around snapping some photographs.

I particularly like this photo of the surroundings that was taken right after I stepped out of my car.

I was quite surprised to find out that The Living Cafe has some pretty interesting health/diet programmes that I could check out for myself.

Well, the venue isn’t the main topic of this blog entry. What’s the main focus here is the amazing Kiwi-fruit inspired dinner that I had!

I really like the cute soft toy. I should have grabbed one and put it in my car! =P

From Zespri Kiwifruit 2012

The very personalised table setting, right down to the details!

From Zespri Kiwifruit 2012

And check out this extensive dinner menu! As you can see from the menu itself, all the dishes served contains the Kiwi-fruit and I must say, it was the most unique dinner I ever had.

From Zespri Kiwifruit 2012

I was getting quite interested in the Kiwi-fruit and I was examining it from head to toe.

From Zespri Kiwifruit 2012

Can you tell the difference between a Gold Kiwi-fruit and a Green Kiwi-Fruit? Honestly, before I even attended this event, I absolutely have no clue how people differentiated between the Gold Kiwi-Fruit and the Green Kiwi-Fruit [except by telling from the stickers]. But if you look closely, the Green Kiwi-Fruit has a more hairier skin while the Gold Kiwi-Fruit has more of a smoother surface.

From Zespri Kiwifruit 2012

Another way you can tell the difference of a Gold Kiwi-fruit and a Green Kiwi-fruit is by the beaks of the Kiwi-fruit. A Gold Kiwi-fruit has a beak while a Green Kiwi-fruit does not have a beak.

From Zespri Kiwifruit 2012

Here’s Miss. Judy Lee [Marketing Manager (Southeast Asia) for Zespri Kiwi-fruit] sharing with us some information about Zespri and the Kiwi-fruit.

From Zespri Kiwifruit 2012

Do you know that the Kiwi-fruit is actually a native fruit of China? Well, in any case, I prefer the ones that are grown locally in New Zealand because the quality control standards there are much higher and stringent.

Here’s Miss. Pooja Vig [a Nutritionist by profession] sharing with us the health benefits and nutritional value of the Kiwi-fruit!

From Zespri Kiwifruit 2012

Do you know that a Gold Kiwi-fruit contains 2X Vitamin C than an Orange?

Well, after attending this dinner, I am a total convert and my fiancee can vouch for me because I have been buying lots and lots of Kiwi-fruit from the NTUC and I’m eating them every single day for breakfast!

So, let’s move on the fantastic Kiwi-fruit inspired dinner that I had.

For Entree, we had the Raw Bruschetto with Pesto and Kiwi Salsa
Pretty zesty and unique on its own. A very appetising start to a refreshing dinner indeed.

From Zespri Kiwifruit 2012
From Zespri Kiwifruit 2012

For Soup, we had Raw Kiwi and Apple Gozpacho

Even as I’m typing this entry, my hairs are standing on its ends because I remembered how the soup had a rather tangy sour taste to it. Its my first time having cold soup for a dinner and I must say, the soup was pretty exotic.

From Zespri Kiwifruit 2012

For Main Course, we had Grilled Salmon stuffed with Cauliflower, served with Mixed Salad and Kiwi Citrus.

From Zespri Kiwifruit 2012

This dish was fabulous and I really like it a lot. The unique thing about this dish is the stuffed cauliflower!

From Zespri Kiwifruit 2012

The cauliflower were finely chopped and stuffed into the grilled salmon.

From Zespri Kiwifruit 2012

For Dessert, we had Raw Kiwi Pie.

From Zespri Kiwifruit 2012

And we very much ended the dinner with yummy-tasting Kiwi-fruits!

From Zespri Kiwifruit 2012

So, if you’re reading this blog entry, I hope you will have learn more about the Kiwi-fruit as much as I did! So, go buy some Kiwi-fruits and have a healthy and balanced diet today.

From Zespri Kiwifruit 2012

By the way, Ai Sakura whipped up a few delicious Kiwi-fruit inspired meals and you really should check her blog out for some ideas that you could use too!

Hello Everyone,
Baby and I were at Vivocity recently for an event and we were cruising around in search for a good restaurant to have our dinner. We had a few options opened to us, namely, the White Dog Cafe, Xi Men Ding [Taiwan Cuisine], Earle Swensen’s, and Akashi Japanese Restaurant. Well, we decided to dine at Xi Men Ding [Taiwan Cuisine] Restaurant because we wanted to try their Taiwanese food and see how good and authentic it was. Sadly, it was a horrible mistake to dine there and we will never ever set our foot into the restaurant ever again. Read on to find out more.

From Ximending 2012

The Physical Outlook of the Restaurant:
We wouldn’t deny that the physical outlook of the restaurant has a rather classy, clean, and minimalist feel. However, looks can be rather deceiving and we did not expect that this dining experience would be our first and last one.

From Ximending 2012

Surprisingly, Xi Men Ding comes under the management of CreativEATeries; a successful restaurant group that owns restaurants such as the Tajiyama, Sukiya, SiamKitchen, and many more. We’ve been to Tajiyama before and the dining experience was fabulous. You can check out our review of Tajiyama here –> https://awinsomelife.org/2012/05/30/tajiyama-restaurant-vivocity/

From Ximending 2012

So, naturally, we thought that Xi Men Ding would be of the same standards as Tajiyama. Boy, were we so wrong!

Here were the dishes that we ordered:

Rock Salt Crispy Chicken [$8.90]

Though the chicken was crisp, alot of Monosodium Glutamate was added. It was quite an average dish and we felt that for the price we paid, we could have had better tasting Taiwanese crispy chicken elsewhere.

From Ximending 2012

Scallop Fried Rice [$8.90]

Nothing out of the ordinary, the fried rice had a similar taste as the ones we had at Hawker Centres. Lots of vegetables like shredded cabbages and green peas were added but so little scallops. Totally not worth the money!

From Ximending 2012

Brazilian Mushroom Soup [$8.90]

This soup was just totally disappointing. The portion was only fit for one person and even then, the soup did not lived up to its, “Chef’s Recommendation” as indicated in the food menu. On top of that, the soup was way too salty! For the price we paid, we could have “Buddha Jump Over The Wall” at FoodCourts!

From Ximending 2012

Stir-Fried Sweet Potato Leaves [$8.00]

Substandard dish. We prefer the Sambal Stir-Fried ones available at those local “Zi Char”.

From Ximending 2012

Wok-Fried Tofu With Meat [$13.90]

Seriously, this is perhaps the most edible dish for the night. But with a price of $13.90, it is definitely over-priced.

From Ximending 2012

Inclusive of one additional bowl of rice, wet tissues, service charge and GST, our entire dinner cost a total sum of $59.10! Seriously, we totally regretted dining at Xi Men Ding! It was totally not worth it. Not only was the quality of food bad, service was extremely horrendous as well. Here’s why:

The supervisor/manager welcomed us, showed us to our seats, and presented us with the menu. For a start, this was just standard operating procedure. Nothing WOW about it. Then, having look through the menu, we decided to place our order and we waved our hands up in the air like we just don’t care. We waved for about 3-5 minutes and nobody attended to us. Then, a service staff saw our hands and quickly looked away and attended to other matters such as wiping the tables, clearing of plates from other tables, and pouring tea for other guests. I mean, at the very least, the particular service staff could have gotten someone else to attend to us or gestured to us that he/she would be attending to us right after he/she is done with whatever he/she needs to do!

We kept our hands up in the air like some clowns until the supervisor/manager saw us and attended to us. The order-taking was once again routine and nothing out of the ordinary. Our dishes were then served and we ate. By the way, the dishes that we ordered were all either recommended by the Supervisor/Manager or selected based on the “Chef’s Recommendation” as indicated on the menu. As we felt that the portion of the Scallop Fried Rice was quite small, we placed an order for a bowl of rice and the same scenario happened. We had to wait for 5 minutes before anyone attended to us. Honestly, we are very patient individuals and we wouldn’t have mind waiting if the service staff at least made an attempt to acknowledge that we needed some form of assistance. We just couldn’t believe that the service staffs are trained to look away when guests are waving their hands to attract their attention!

So, after placing an order for a bowl of rice, we waited… and we waited. The rice didn’t came. We waited for a good 10 minutes for a bowl of rice and it didn’t came. At the 15th minute, we decided to check with the service staff because we were rushing for time and for the 3rd time, the same scenario happened. We just do not understand why it is so hard for them to serve us. Was it because they didn’t like our face or what? But anyway, we weren’t the only guests that had the same unpleasant experience. All over the restaurant, I see guests with their hands up in the air trying to get the attention of the service staffs. Needless to say, service at Xi Men Ding was extremely bad.

After our entire meal, we asked for the bill and was attended by a service staff whom was rather impolite. She gestured to us to pay our bill at the cashier counter and the way she did it was as if we owed the restaurant thousands of dollars. During the whole cashiering process, it was really cold. No sense of warmth nor a fond farewell given. There was no eye contact and no, “Thank you and please come again!” nor, “How was the food? Is the service ok?” Everything was just transactional.

Well, I’m not sure if other guests encountered the same experience as we did but surly, for the amount that we paid for dinner, $59.10; we expected better food and better service. Time for us to move on from this bad episode and dine elsewhere worthy. By the way, the restaurant was running at full capacity on a Friday evening and just because its fullhouse, it doesn’t give them an excuse for bad service and bad food. This restaurant really do not deserve to use the name of Xi Men Ding because it doesn’t live up to the real authentic Taiwanese food and the warmth hospitality of Taiwanese people.

Our Verdict:

Don’t waste your money on expensive below average food that is coupled together with lousy horrendous service. Your money could be well spent at other restaurants.

as you can see from the topic of this blog entry itself, yes, it’s all going to be about food but for this particular blog entry, the photos that are published here were taken using the LG Optimus 4X HD Smartphone!

So anyway, in conjunction with the Singapore Food Festival that is organised by the Singapore Tourism Board, 313@somerset is presenting a month-long celebration of food, entertainment and shopping from July 27 to August 31 at the Discovery Walk, Level 1 of 313@somerset. Now that’s really something you ought to consider because you pay half price for the value that you are getting! However, this promotion is only valid till 31 August 2012 so be sure you don’t miss out on this awesome deal.

Hello Everyone,
in this particular blog entry, I will share with you about the various Far East Hospitality Properties from a tour I had with the International and Local Bloggers.

This blog entry will feature 4 hotels, namely, Landmark Village Hotel, Changi Village Hotel, Albert Court Village Hotel, and Oasia Hotel. Out of these 4 hotels, the 2 I would most likely choose for my next staycation would either be the Changi Village Hotel or the Oasia Hotel. So, if you’re considering where to put up for your next staycation or if you’re a tourist travelling to Singapore and you’re looking for accommodations in Singapore, read on to find out more!

Landmark Village Hotel

The Hotel’s Interior [which I find quite average]

From SBA 2012
From SBA 2012

Honestly, even though I often pass by Landmark Village Hotel [due to my frequent trips to Bugis and the National Library], I never really had a good impression of this hotel due to its shabby outlook. But well, after touring the hotel, I would definitely recommend Landmark Village Hotel to tourists because of its location and its newly renovated Premier Rooms. Just for your information, Landmark Village Hotel is a 4-stars property and it has facilities such as a Gym, an Executive Club Lounge, and a Swimming Pool. During our tour at the Landmark Village Hotel, we only managed to see two rooms, the executive suite room and the newly-renovated premier room.

Verdict:

The location of Landmark Village Hotel makes it a choice accommodation for tourists who prefers to stay in hotels that are situated near town. Moreover, it’s location at Arab Street means that tourists who fancy some local heritage sightseeing can do so as well. Given its close proximity to Bugis MRT Station, it makes it easy for tourists to travel just about anywhere in Singapore.

Changi Village Hotel [situated at Changi Village, this might possibly be the perfect hotel that I am going to put up for my next staycation.]

The hotel has 2 pools. One on the 8th level and the other on the ground level. This particular pool is situated opposite the Saltwater Cafe so… people can literally see you swimming while having their meals. This is also another possible area of the hotel that you can utilise to conduct functions but personally, I would recommend the outdoor space on the 8th level instead of this one.

Then, we went on to look at their Royal Suite Room and their Deluxe Room.

From SBA 2012

Here’s the best part. They have Mac Stations available for guests to surf the Internet!

From SBA 2012

Verdict:

Changi Village Hotel is an extremely suitable accommodation for those whom are seeking a more laid-back and quiet side of Singapore. Tourists can also get to enjoy the local Hawker Fare within the vicinity of Changi Village. Tourists who are more adventurous can consider taking a bum boat to neighbouring offshore islands such as the Pulau Ubin Island or the Kusu Island. Due to the hotel’s close proximity to Changi Airport, transit guests are also welcome. The only probably downside is the inaccessibility of Changi Village Hotel which the Hotel makes up for it by providing complimentary shuttle services.

Albert Court Village Hotel

Albert Court Village Hotel is situated at Albert Street near the Little India vicinity and the hotel is rather unique by itself because of its structure that comprises of pre-war shophouses.

Verdict:

Tourists travelling to Singapore might consider staying at the Albert Court Village Hotel because of its close proximity to town. In addition, tourists who want a slice of Singapore’s heritage and culture can also visit the nearby Little India. Tourists looking to shop for electronic goods can also do so at the nearby Sim Lim Square. Personally for me, Albert Court Village Hotel is not really my cup of tea but I heard that she has her fair share of return customers.

Oasia Hotel

Oasia Hotel is located at Novena and it is near the Velocity Shopping Mall, Square 2, and Tan Tock Seng Hospital. As I mentioned, Oasia Hotel might possibly be the next choice of accommodation for my next staycation. As Oasia Hotel wasn’t in our itinerary for the day, we weren’t shown the rooms of the hotel.

From SBA 2012

Since Oasia Hotel wasn’t in our itinerary, we went straight for lunch at one of their in-house restaurants known as Zaffron.

Well, in my honest opinion, the food served at Zaffron is quite standard. Although the buffet spread is not much in terms of variety, the quality of the food makes up for its shortcoming.

Well, the last I heard, Zaffron was having a 1-for-1 buffet promotion. I’m not too sure whether they still have it now but you just might want to call them up and check it out. The lunch very much concludes the Hotel Tour and seriously, I personally feel that the tour should either start late, or otherwise, breakfast should be catered for the local bloggers. It’s not fun to wake up early in the morning with little sleep and no food.

Verdict:

As my group did not get to view the hotel rooms, it is really tough for me to come to a conclusion. Nevertheless, I believe that tourists travelling to Singapore might choose Oasia Hotel for the fact that it is located near the MRT Station which makes it accessible to travel anywhere in Singapore. Moreover, the Newton Circus Hawker is just one train station away and hence, provides tourists the opportunity to taste the local Hawker fare. A big plus point about Oasia Hotel is that it is relatively new and hence, has a rather modern stylish design.

That’s all for the tour and we hope that through this blog entry, you will be able to look at more accommodation choices when you visit Singapore.

Stay tuned for our next update about the Singapore Blog Awards 2012!

God bless!

Hello Everyone,
it was such a busy weekend for both Baby and I as we were fully packed with so much events that happened!

Well, despite the tiredness, we are still going to put up 3 separate blog entries detailing what happened over the weekends.

Our first blog entry will be about our poolside dinner experience with the International Bloggers whom we hosted over the weekends and in our second blog entry, we will share with you about the various Far East Hospitality Properties that we visited with the International Bloggers. Last but not the least, we will talk about the exciting Singapore Blog Awards 2012 that took place yesterday at the Singapore Flyer Heritage Food Trail.

So let’s roll out our 1st blog entry…

Thanks to the good people from Far East Hospitality and OMY.SG, I was invited to host the International Bloggers whom were going to attend the Singapore Blog Awards 2012 and as such, I also received an invitation to attend a Poolside Dinner with the International Bloggers at the Landmark Village Hotel. Because I was early for the event, I managed to go around and take some pre-event photographs with my trusty Canon Powershot S100.

And here’s the place where we had our Poolside Dinner! The place is known as Shades and I simply love their tagline, “Chill Out, Dine Out, Hang Out!“.

The surroundings of Shades has a rather “classy” feel to it and it is a suitable venue for wedding solemnisation, especially if you’re thinking of having an outdoor wedding solemnisation.

Well, to let our International Bloggers find out a little bit about the various heritages and culture of Singapore, there were a few stalls that were set up where we could literally have some fun by having our faces sketched by a renowned local artist, Idris Ali, sample some tropical fruits such as Coconut and Durian, and get our hands tattooed with Henna!

Here’s some of us having dinner together!

From SBA 2012

Well, on that night itself, we also had a tour of the Landmark Village Hotel where we were shown the Suite Room and the newly renovated Premiere Room which I will talk about in my second blog entry. We also had the opportunity to look at the various facilities of the hotel.

From SBA 2012

To be honest, I’m quite an introverted person but amazingly, I was able to interact and socialise with the various Local and International Bloggers. Some of the Local Bloggers I met were Denise, Melissa, Wei Li, Magdalene, Rynaque, Jeraldine and Charmaine and the International Bloggers whom I managed to interact with were Sock Peng [Malaysia], Jonathan [Hong Kong], Brenna [Philippines], Katrina [Philippines], Squall [Malaysia], Ho Ki [Hong Kong], Rebecca [Malaysia], and Pace [Hong Kong]. It was really an amazing time to get to know them in person because in the blogosphere, nothing beats meeting a person [whom you very much interacted with online most of the time] face to face! In fact, I think I might want to do up a fourth blog entry where I share about the various bloggers whom I interacted with so that you readers can know what their blog is about too!

So yes, the dinner very much concluded the evening because all of us had to wake up really early the next day for the tour around the various hotels. In fact, I was quite surprised that Wei Li managed to round up some of the International Bloggers for some supper at Chomps Chomps!

Well, stay tuned for our next blog entry about the various Far East Hospitality Properties that we visited and you might just want to consider staying at some of the hotels for a staycation!

God Bless!

Food Tasting at Irvin’s Live Seafood House

Hence, we really seek your understanding if you haven’t heard/seen much updates from us.

Moving on, we are going to introduce to you this restaurant known as Taang Shifu that is situated at KSL City, Johor Bahru [JB].

During our most recent trip to JB, Baby and I went to KSL City for some shopping and eating. As we wanted to have a wholesome and sumptuous dinner, we decided to check out Taang Shifu.

Taang Shifu is a Chinese restaurant that serves wholesome food. From the name itself, one might probably mistaken it as a Chinese restaurant that only serves soup. However, besides nourishing soups, they too offer a wide variety of food choices that will definitely whet up your appetite.

From Taang Shifu Restaurant @ JB 2012

Looking at the menu, they have a wide variety of food choices for you to choose from and not only that, the menu also describes how the food will provide you with health benefits.

From Taang Shifu Restaurant @ JB 2012

Guava with Orange Peel is served as the appetiser and I must admit, I love the appetiser so much that I finished up the entire serving.

From Taang Shifu Restaurant @ JB 2012

Wanting to reminisce the time we had at Taiwan, we ordered Tea Leaves Eggs and seriously, the portion was slightly alot for 2 persons. The eggs were very flavourful and cooked to the right texture.

From Taang Shifu Restaurant @ JB 2012

Rice served with Mushroom, Scallop, and Broth. [This was my main course and the quality of this dish far exceeded my expectations. The broth was flavouful and nutritious and it complemented the rice very well. Combined with the taste of the scallops and mushrooms, this is a perfect dish for seafood lovers.]

From Taang Shifu Restaurant @ JB 2012

Mee Sua served with Abalone, Mushrooms, Broccoli, and Dried Scallops. [Baby loved this dish so much that she finished the entire serving; leaving only a mouthful for me to sample! The texture of the mee sua was firm and not soggy and the ingredients used were simply delicious.]

From Taang Shifu Restaurant @ JB 2012

Soup is a must for almost all of our meals. So, we ordered this really nutritious sea cucumber and dried scallop broth which was so good that we will strongly recommend it to anyone whom is thinking of dining at Taang Shifu.

From Taang Shifu Restaurant @ JB 2012

So much for all the food. But wait, here’s the best part. Check out the beverages and desserts we had!

Longan Tea [Left] and Winter Melon with Water Chestnut[Right]. The drinks were of high quality and tasted fantastic. The drinks are freshly made and that is what makes it really healthy.

From Taang Shifu Restaurant @ JB 2012

Premium Bird’s Nest. [Well Baby had this dessert all by her own because I don’t fancy Bird’s Nest. The best part was, it was going for 1 for 1! So Baby had two portions of Birds’ Nest for the price of 1!]

From Taang Shifu Restaurant @ JB 2012

For myself, I had the Guiling Gao with Pearl Powder. It is said to be good for skin complexion and I enjoyed the dessert alot. However, the sandy texture of the pearl powder didn’t quite appeal to my taste buds.

From Taang Shifu Restaurant @ JB 2012

Conclusion:

The food served at Taang Shifu is no doubt of the highest quality and they are extremely palatable. Not only that, the food are wholesome, nutritious, healthy, and most importantly, tasty! We will strongly recommend this restaurant to everyone whom are planning a trip down to KSL City. In fact, we are planning to bring our family members down to try this restaurant because they will definitely enjoy the food there [Cantonese people love soups and food that are served with great tasting sauces]. Oh, and the best part was, the total bill was not very expensive. While I shan’t reveal how much the total bill was, I will leave it to you readers to find that out for yourself [you will definitely be surprised].

And before I end off, the service standards there were flawless because the service staffs were prompt, efficient, and polite. We found the service staffs to be very attentive and service-oriented as they would go the extra mile to delight guests. The restaurant ambience was grand, warm, and lively too. It’s a pity that Singapore does not have a restaurant like this. Maybe Taang Shifu might consider expanding and opening up an outlet here in Singapore. =P

So, do check out Taang Shifu if you are planning a trip to KSL City!

Stay tuned to more updates from us!

God bless!

Hello Everyone,
today, I will be blogging [in detail] about my dining experience at Paradise Inn @ GreenwichV.

Personally, I have frequented Paradise Inn [Serangoon NeX and GreenwichV] a couple of times but I haven’t got the chance to really blog about my dining experience there except for a short write-up during the GreenwichV Blogger’s Amazing Race.

So, here’s how my dining experience went.

The dinner at GreenwichV Paradise Inn was planned for quite sometime already and it was hosted by Baby’s sister, Jasmine. When we were there, many tables have already been reserved so it is strongly recommended that you make a reservation in advance, especially if you are planning to dine in big groups. What I really like about the Paradise Inn Outlet at GreenwichV is the Alfresco dining area because it is quite scenic given the green surroundings. Even the dining wares have a certain elegance and class to it.

From Paradise Inn 2012

Well, for appetisers, we were served a small dish of braised peanuts and I don’t really have any comments on it because I personally felt that the taste was quite standard.

From Paradise Inn 2012

Besides chewing the peanuts while waiting for our dishes, we got so bored that we decided to take photos of ourselves.

As always, when I eat, I always look very “buay song” until…

Here are the 11 dishes of food that we ordered for a table of 6 people.

Seafood Fried Rice [with Roe]

From Paradise Inn 2012

Wasabi-Mayonnaise Prawns [personally, I find this dish rather unique and I quite like the Wasabi-Mayonnaise. However, comparing this with the Salted Egg Prawns, I would prefer the Salted Egg Prawns.]

From Paradise Inn 2012

Salted-Egg Prawns [I highly recommend this dish if you are looking for something that is unique in taste.]

From Paradise Inn 2012

Stewed Dong Po Pork [this dish was quite flavourful but is also quite fattening too.]

From Paradise Inn 2012

Boiled Apple Pork Soup [I’m not sure if its apple or pear that they boil that made the soup slightly sweet in taste.]

From Paradise Inn 2012

Crisp-Fried Shrimp Paste Chicken [this is one of their specialties but to be honest, I find it quite salty for my liking.]

From Paradise Inn 2012

Steamed Cod Fish with Sauce [this is absolutely quite a healthy dish and it is highly recommended to those who fancy Cod Fish.]

From Paradise Inn 2012

Hot Plate Tofu with Minced Pork and Mushroom [quite average I would say.]

From Paradise Inn 2012

Cai Xin [vegetables were slightly tough to chew and looks rather green.]

From Paradise Inn 2012

Fried Ngoh Hiang [fried to perfection and is easy to chew on. Very flavourful and goes well with the sweet sauce.]

From Paradise Inn 2012

Fried Noodles [not really that fantastic but it’s still edible.]

From Paradise Inn 2012

At the end of the day, despite the hefty bill of $248++, we totally enjoyed the companionship of one another. However, much could be done to improve on the food quality because either they are too salty or they are just average. The service was excellent and the service staffs were very polite and helpful.

If you’re looking for a suitable restaurant [that serves Chinese cuisine] for your family gatherings/reunions, you might want to consider Paradise Inn. They have 13 outlets at various locations all over Singapore so do check them out.

Hello Everyone, this is one long overdue post but nevertheless, here it is!
Here are the details of the vendors/suppliers whom I engaged for Jacqueline’s 24th Birthday and Surprise Proposal Party

Meyson Jewellery

Many ladies and gentlemen whom are of the same age as me have absolutely zero knowledge about diamonds. In fact, most of the people whom I know are absolutely clueless about choosing diamonds; especially the gents whom are preparing or planning to propose. Well, I am not a professional in this area but I shall attempt to impart some basic knowledge I have about choosing diamonds. A friend of mine once asked me if diamond rings are still relevant in today’s context and my answer to him was a big, “Yes!”.

Ok, there are 4Cs you got to look out for when considering to purchase diamonds.

The 4Cs are Carat, Colour, Clarity, and Cut.

Carat is used to measure the weight of a diamond. The bigger the number of carat, the more expensive the diamond will be. However, the price of 2 diamonds that are of the same carat may differ greatly as there are factors such as Colour, Clarity, and Cut to consider.

Colour of a diamond is graded from the alphabet D to Z. Diamonds that are graded D in colour have the purest colour, that is, they are colourless and they are the best colour for diamonds. A totally colorless diamond allows light to pass through it easily, resulting in the light being dispersed as the color of the rainbow. For diamonds that are graded E-Z colour, you can actually see that the colour of the diamond is tinted yellow or brown.

Clarity of a diamond is graded from Flawless [FL] to Inclusions Visible to the Naked Eye [I3]. Most diamonds contain very tiny impurities know as “inclusions.” An inclusion can interfere with the light passing through the diamond. The fewer the inclusion, the more beautiful the diamond will be.

Cut of a diamond has a few varieties and they can be graded good, very good, and excellent. In fact, under the microscope, if the cutting of a diamond is perfect, you can literally see shapes of hearts and arrows. However, diamonds with rather fanciful cuttings tend to be quite expensive; especially those from Lee Hwa, Goldheart, and etc. Well, for Baby’s diamond ring, I specially got it from Meyson Jewellery [Serangoon NeX] because the price was extremely reasonable and their service were excellent. If you are planning to get diamond rings, you might want to consider getting them from Meyson Jewellery. And if you are going to the outlet at Serangoon NeX, do look up Angel [one of the retail staff] because she can really recommend one that your other half will like.

Party Blasters Setting up decorations can be a tedious task and especially time consuming. Hence, for Baby’s party, I specially engaged Party Blasters to do up the decorations and they have indeed done a really excellent job. If you are looking for a trustworthy, reliable, and creative decorations team, do check out Party Blasters as they have a wide range of exotic balloons that you can choose from. Better still, head down to their office [situated at MidView City] for a non-obligatory discussion. To check out the various decorations they have done for events, like their Facebook Pagenow!

Pine Garden’s Cakes I first tasted Pine Garden’s Cakes when I attended Winnie’s 21st birthday and I must say, Pine Garden’s Cake is absolutely delicious. The price of Pine Garden’s Cake is also rather reasonable and their service is prompt and efficient. There are also a whole range of flavours that you can choose from to customise the cake. If you are looking for cakes that not only taste delicious but one that appeals to the eye, you might want to consider Pine Garden’s Designer Cakes.

Eesha Eesha is a Taiwanese professional make-up artist and Baby gotten her contact from Cozy Cot’s website. Since Baby wanted to look really pretty for her party, Baby engaged Eesha’s service and Eesha was really service-oriented. When we reached Eesha’s place, she made us felt rather comfortable and even offered us drinks. Eesha also has a professional make up space at her place so you can be rest assured that everything is all professionally done. If any of you are interested to engage Eesha’s make up service, you can contact her at 81812528.

From Jacqueline’s Birthday and Proposal 2012

Foodlink Catering From what I heard, Foodlink Catering is a rather new food caterer and I had mixed feelings when I wanted to engage the services of Foodlink Catering. Even after the party, our guests had mixed feelings about the quality of the food. While the buffet line-up was pretty impressive, I personally felt that the food quality was perhaps average. The price per person is also not that cheap too. Hence, I perhaps would not recommend Foodlink Catering if you are going for quality food. In fact, Neo Gardenmight be a better choice instead.

From Jacqueline’s Birthday and Proposal 2012

Bloom Room There are many florists in Singapore that sells 99-roses bouquet and I happened to chance upon Bloom Room during an Internet search on Google’s website. In fact, out of the many florists that sells 99-roses bouquet, I engaged Bloom Room because of their extremely personalised service and their reasonable pricing as well. Jaclyn [the staff from Bloom Room] was very helpful and she even went the extra mile by offering me 3 ideas of 99-roses bouquet to choose from. So, if you are looking for a 99-roses bouquet for your other half, you might want to consider Bloom Room.

No. 1 Costume Costume There are quite  a couple of costume shops in Singapore and the first time I heard of No.1 Costume Costume was when I performed for NDP many years ago. Although I did thought of checking out the rest of the costume shops apart from No. 1 Costume Costume, I decided that location was going to be the top consideration as I wanted to save the hassle of travelling to and fro. Moreover, No. 1 Costume Costume is perhaps Singapore’s largest costume shop  and they probably have the most widest range of costumes to choose from. If you are looking for a costume for a themed party, No. 1 Costume Costumeis one place you must visit!

From Jacqueline’s Birthday and Proposal 2012

Sticky Sticky’s first candy shop was at The Central, Clarke Quay and since then, they have flourished and opened other outlets in Cathay Cineleisure Orchard and Jcube too. Sticky’s candies are honestly perfect for doorgifts and not only that, their candies are really tasty and addictive. The best thing is, it is not very expensive! If you are sourcing for suitable doorgifts for your party, you might want to consider Sticky!

Hello Everyone,
3 weeks ago, I put up a blog entry about the launch of McDonald’s Hello Kitty plush toys and since then, I have been receiving tons of queries asking if I have extra Hello Kitty plush toys.

Well, I’m sorry to say this but I absolutely do not have any extra Hello Kitty plush toys because the ones that I have are for my own personal collection.

As mentioned in my previous blog post, the McDonald Land Hello Kitty plush toys are expected to sell out really fast and hence the reason why I encouraged everyone to get them on the day of the launch. Well, for this particular week, the Ronald Hello Kitty will be available on Thursday [that is in 2 days time!] and it is the last of the Hello Kitty plush toy that you can collect to make it a complete set [provided that you have collected the Hamburglar Hello Kitty, the Grimace Hello Kitty, and the Birdie Hello Kitty“!

Here are 4 tips for you to secure your Ronald Hello Kitty this Thursday before it is sold out:

1). Go for a McDonald’s breakfast early in the morning on Thursday!
2). Dine at a McDonald’s restaurant that is not so crowded!
3). Go for a midnight McDonald’s supper on Wednesday!
4). Call for McDelivery lunch on Thursday if you ain’t free to dine at the restaurant!

From McDonald Hello Kitty 2012

Here’s my personal collection thus far. 3 down, 1 more to go! And yes, it is a perfect gift for any girl who loves Hello Kitty plush toys!

Hope this helps!

Hello Everyone,
Baby and I recently dined at the Suki Sushi Japanese Restaurant that is situated at Cineleisure Orchard and seriously, that experience alone was enough to determine that we would never set foot in this restaurant ever again.

From Suki Sushi @ Cineleisure Orchard 2012

Here is why:

1). The quality of the food was totally horrendous! Seriously, when one dines at a Japanese restaurant for a Japanese cuisine, one would expect that the food served is of the highest quality. Well, Suki Sushi Japanese Restaurant [Cineleisure Orchard] failed in this aspect and you would see why in the following photos that we took.

Look at all the Sushi we had. The fillings were not fresh at all and even lacks appeal! The rice was mushy and the seaweeds used were too soggy. And just a note here, the photographs of the Sushi were taken before we even laid our chopsticks on them. So, you can tell that the Chef who prepared the Sushi did a rather shoddy job.

From Suki Sushi @ Cineleisure Orchard 2012
From Suki Sushi @ Cineleisure Orchard 2012
From Suki Sushi @ Cineleisure Orchard 2012

Yes… I was utterly disgusted by the taste.

From Suki Sushi @ Cineleisure Orchard 2012

When I dine at Japanese Restaurants, it is always a tradition for me to order a portion of Chawanmushi [steamed egg custard] and seriously, the Chawanmushi at Suki Sushi [Cineleisure Orchard] lacked the flavour and taste. In fact, Umi Sushi’s Chawanmushi tastes much better and is even larger in portion!

From Suki Sushi @ Cineleisure Orchard 2012
From Suki Sushi @ Cineleisure Orchard 2012

The Miso Soup was served cold and it tasted really bland.  As always, I like my soups to be served piping hot so this Miso Soup was below par! The Miso Soup I make myself at home tastes way better than this!

From Suki Sushi @ Cineleisure Orchard 2012

Looking at the photograph and judging for yourself, you can tell that the Ramen Soup was totally unappetising. The soup was tasteless and the noodles were way too soggy.

From Suki Sushi @ Cineleisure Orchard 2012

The Salmon Sashimi was perhaps the only best dish that we ordered.

From Suki Sushi @ Cineleisure Orchard 2012

We waited for this Chicken Teriyaki for almost 20 minutes and guess what, the chicken was half-cooked! Not only that, we found feathers on the skin of the meat! The Teriyaki sauce was also insufficient and we expected better standards especially when we had to wait for so long!

From Suki Sushi @ Cineleisure Orchard 2012

The feathers are quite distinct eh! I almost puked after seeing the feathers.

From Suki Sushi @ Cineleisure Orchard 2012

2). The service provided by the restaurant service staffs didn’t quite meet our expectations. The service staffs were un-attentive and they took quite a while to respond to our requests. In fact, what was really unacceptable was the fact that the service staffs were so free that they gathered in the corner of the restaurant in group of 3-4 persons and happily chatted away in the presence of diners whom were still dining in the restaurant!

From Suki Sushi @ Cineleisure Orchard 2012

Honestly, for the price that we paid for this particular meal, we could have had better tasting food elsewhere. We were so disappointed with this dining experience that we WILL NOT RECOMMEND this restaurant to anybody. We even asked ourselves, “Is this place even a Japanese restaurant?!” Oh wells…
