Have you ever encountered a really bad service experience when you try to redeem the deal vouchers that you have purchased from daily deal vouchers websites like Groupon Singapore or AllDealsAsia.com?
Yes, we have and it can be extremely frustrating because there are tons of terms and conditions to adhere to when utilising those vouchers! Furthermore, if you have never taken the time to read the fine print on those vouchers, you might be in for a rude shock when you realise that there are hidden costs involved.

Now, how would you like if we tell you that there are indeed 1-for-1 deal offers at well-known establishments like Hard Rock Café, Brewerkz, Forest Adventure, and etc.; with absolutely minimal restrictions and no hidden costs?

Recently, we were entertained by the folks from The Entertainer at Ah Hooi’s Kitchen and we came to learn about the great one-for-one deals that The Entertainer has to offer.

Founded in 2001 [yes, long before daily deal vouchers websites like Groupon came about] by Donna Benton, The Entertainer provides ‘buy one get one free’ incentive vouchers from well-known dining, leisure, entertainment, and hotel brands across the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Europe.

If you often check out Groupon Singapore, AllDealsAsia.com, or even Deal.com.sg for the best travel, spa, and food deals, you must absolutely check out what The Entertainer App can offer you!

The Entertainer will give you access to over 1,065 ‘buy one get one free’ vouchers from Singapore’s most exclusive dining, leisure, wellness and entertainment venues including Au Petit Salut, Kinki, Carnivore, Hard Rock Café, Brewerkz, Marmalade Pantry, Ben & Jerry’s, Spa Symphony, Gmax Reverse Bungy and Impakt Gym. Offers are also valid for leading hotels throughout the region including Dusit, Sofitel, Angsana, Oberoi, and Banyan Tree across sought-after holiday destinations from Thailand to Bali, and even to the Maldives.

With 3 vouchers per merchant, you can visit The Entertainers’ partners more than just once and include your family and friends in the 1 for 1 fun!

What We Really Like About The Entertainer App

• The Entertainer App is really easy to use and it is extremely handy.

• The 1-for-1 deals are definitely value-for-money!

• There are very few restrictions on the redemption of the 1-for-1 deals; in fact, a majority of the deals are valid anytime throughout the year, 24/7, less public holidays, until 30 December 2014.

• Ability to share the product with family and friends. All they have to do is to download the app, sign in with the account holder’s login details, and they can access the offers from their device.

• Ability to track savings each time an offer is utilised. The Savings Calculator function also allows users to see just how quickly they redeem the cost of their Entertainer product, and how much they save throughout the year.

Priced at SGD$95, the Entertainer Singapore will contain over SGD$150,000 in savings. Once purchased, the offers in The Entertainer App are available to redeem from 2 January 2014 through to 30 December 2014.

If paying SGD$95 for a one year membership of The Entertainer Singapore is expensive, why not pay SGD$19 for a one month membership of The Entertainer Singapore? This way, you will get access to all 770+ buy one get one free offers for Singapore’s hottest restaurants, nightspots, informal dining, spas, activities, attractions and more!

There is no difference between the one year membership or the one month membership. Both offer the same 1-for-1 deals and comes with 3 vouchers per merchant which you can utilise. After your one month membership, you can simply choose to upgrade to the full product for a further SGD$76, allowing you to keep redeeming your offers until 30 December 2014.

If you are a natural lifestylist and you’re always out hunting for great deals at well-known establishments, you really should consider purchasing The Entertainer Singapore One Month Membership for just SGD$19!

To purchase The Entertainer Singapore One Month Membership, you can visit https://www.theentertainerme.com/trysgfor19/ and be sure to enter my unique promo code awinsomelife when you purchase!

We are pretty sure you can cover back the SGD$19 in just one to two transactions when you utilise the 1-for-1 deals so try it for yourself and let us know what you think of it.

Swee Heng Bakery is a familiar name with every household. With 20 outlets spread all over Singapore and a factory at Senoko Crescent, it is too hard to miss this bakery giant that started from a very humble beginning in the late 1980s.
In its quest to be the leading halal bakery in Singapore, Swee Heng Bakery has set another milestone by opening its latest outlet at West Mall Shopping Centre. With an entirely different store concept that offers a different range of confectionary products, Swee Heng 1989 Classic is geared towards the premium market.

Last weekend, we popped by Swee Heng 1989 Classic and we brought home tons of delectable goodies and sweet treats. From the outside, one would notice the striking vintage and retro decoration and upon stepping in, the sweet smelling aroma from the freshly-baked breads will engulf one’s senses.

To celebrate Jacqueline’s Mum’s birthday and also Mother’s Day in advance, we brought home the 10-inch Crispy Black Forest Cake that was retailing for SGD$28.90. Having tried the cake, we found the cake to be sinfully indulgent, especially with its rich and thick chocolate. If your loved ones enjoy chocolate very much, this is definitely the cake to go for!

Apart from the 10-inch Crispy Black Forest Cake that we brought home, we also took along with us some other baked products that are worth mentioning.

Charcoal Flaxseed Buns, SGD$3

With 6 buns in 1 packet, the Charcoal Flaxseed Bun is definitely value for money. Tasting just like any other normal bread, the Charcoal Flaxseed Bun is for the health conscious because the bamboo charcoal that is added to the bread dough is said to aid digestion, exclude radiation and excess moisture, and strengthen bowel movement. Sprinkled with some Flaxseed, this wholesome charcoal bun is definitely high in dietary fibre.

Nonya Curry and Egg Bun, Mushroom Chicken Bun, Chicken Vienna Bun, Parmesan Ham and Cheese Bun, SGD$1.60

These individual assorted buns retails for SGD$1.60 each and all of them are extremely tasty and satisfying. With a variety of flavours available to suit even the most picky tongue, we are pretty sure you can find a bun that suit your taste buds.

Taiwanese Steamed Cake (Black Sesame/ Original/ Mango/ Chocolate), SGD$1.80 each

Soft, spongy, and filled with the yummy custard filling, these Taiwanese Steamed Cakes is a delightful treat for all ages. Of all the four flavours that are available, we personally like the mango flavour the most!

If you are staying around Bukit Batok, be sure to visit Swee Heng 1989 Classic and get your breakfast fix!

In line with Mother’s Day celebration, Swee Heng 1989 Classic has recently launched a Facebook Contest and it is ongoing from now till 6 May 2014. If you are interested, do check out the contest on Swee Heng 1989 Classic Facebook Page and you might just be one of the 3 lucky winners to walk away with a special Mother’s Day gift set that include a 10-inch cake, a bouquet of carnation flowers, and SGD$50 worth of Swee Heng 1989 Classic Vouchers!

Last Sunday, we were at the Golden Mile Food Centre to have a really special bowl of fishball noodles and we must say, it was so good that one serving was really not enough.

Founded by Douglas Ng, a 23-year old young chap whom used to run and manage 3+1, a Chinese Restaurant in Tanjong Pagar, and assisted by his sister, Jocelyn Ng, whom was previously an F&B trainer for a 5-star hotel; the dynamic duo is set to take hawker fare by storm.

Now, what’s really so special about the fishballs is that they are lovingly made using 100% pure and fresh yellow-tail fish meat. Yes, 100% fish meat with absolutely no flour used!

Many a times when we dine out with my parents, we often hear them lament about how fishballs aren’t like what they used to be in the past. In fact, many fishball noodles stores use factory-made/processed fishballs that often contain lots of flour and food additives/preservatives.

If you want to know how real fishballs should taste like, you must check out Fishball Story. The fishballs are handmade from scratch and Douglas makes them every day early in the morning at 4am! That’s really some serious effort and determination by Douglas in wanting to serve nothing but the best to his customers!

When we were there last Sunday at around noon time, we waited for about 20 minutes to be served and thankfully, we managed to get our bowl of fishball noodles as they were sold out at 2PM!

Apart from the fishballs, we also like the fish cakes that are speckled with some chilli and scallions. It was such a delightful treat that we wish we could have it every day to go along with some Teochew Muay [Teochew Porridge]. For just SGD$3 for a bowl of fishball noodles or a bowl of fishball soup, we give it two thumbs-up!

To have a taste of what real fishballs are made of, be sure to head down to Fishball Story at Golden Mile Food Centre before 3PM to avoid any disappointment; considering the fact that Douglas makes a limited quantity of handmade fishballs and they sell-out rather quickly. We’re pretty sure that as time goes by, the fishball noodles will be more refined as Douglas tries to improve and tweak the recipe to diners’ liking and the queue will definitely be longer than before.

The number of Japanese-French fusion restaurants in Singapore are few and rare, and if you are on the lookout for a whole new dining experience of unique Japanese-French cuisine, we are excited to share with you about the upcoming opening of Lewin Terrace!
Featuring French & Japanese techniques and a produce-driven approach, Lewin Terrace is an upscale fine dining restaurant that is slated to open sometime in February. Helmed by a talented team of culinary professionals which includes General Manager and Chief Sommelier, Mr Daisuke Kawai, formerly with the Les Amis group where he won the Top Wines Best Sommelier of the year at the Singapore World Gourmet Series Awards of Excellence 2013, diners can expect that Lewin Terrace will have an elaborate wine list with more than 100 types of wines, of which more than half will be French while the rest will be intricately curated from other parts of the world including Japan.

Lewin Terrace will also offer wine-pairing menus for set lunches and set dinners. Each course will be served with half a glass of wine carefully selected by Chief Sommelier, Mr Daisuke Kawai.

The restaurant is housed in a charming and gorgeous black & white bungalow that used to be the residence of the Chief who headed the Central Fire Station on Hill Street. As Lewin Terrace is perched in the depths of Fort Canning’s greenery and imbued with Japanese entertaining and hospitality savoir-faire, it is expected to become a romantic venue that will draw couples for all sorts of occasions ranging from dinner dates and anniversaries to proposals and even weddings.

Today’s the second day of a brand new year and in 30 days’ time, we will be celebrating Chinese New Year. In recent years, many Chinese families [including ours] have moved away from the tradition of dining at home to dining out for reunion dinners and if you belong to the latter, here’s one alternative you might want to look at.
We were recently invited to a food tasting session at STREET 50 Restaurant & Bar and we had a really great time of bountiful feasting. Just to let you know, the Fortune of Flavours Buffet at STREET 50 Restaurant & Bar fuses the flavours and tastes of both Western and Asian cuisines and this is very unlike the typical Chinese menu you find in a Chinese restaurant.

This special menu is available for 5 days only, from 29th January to 2nd February 2014 and it is priced at $58++ for adults and $28++ kids between 6 and 12 years old. The option of adding on free-flow of alcohol, soft drinks, and juices is also available at an additional cost of $28++. Kids below 6 get to enjoy the Fortune of Flavours buffet for free with every paying adult.

5 Specials Highlights of the Fortune of Flavours Buffet

Prawn Tartare with Rock Melon and Nuts

Salad prawns layered with sliced Japanese cucumber and rock melon, then dressed in a tangy ginger and Thai mango dressing, this bite-sized appetizer will welcome you with an abundantly blessed year ahead and stimulate your taste buds for the rest of the buffet’s fare.

Curried Chicken in Lychee Tempura

Golden round pillows of Curried Chicken in Lychee Tempura served on a bed of rice crisps burst into a symphony of flavours at each bite. The sweetness of lychee accompanies the chunks of chicken, along with a hint of curry powder. This unique twist of flavour is sure to appeal to all taste buds, especially children.

Lion Head Meatball with Truffle Oil, Wood Ear Fungus & Water Chestnuts

Immersed in a thick gravy of flavour, the Lion Head Meatball with Truffle Oil, Wood Ear Fungus & Water Chestnuts would have you coming back for seconds. This Shanghainese meatball is a combination of minced pork, mushrooms, chestnuts, coriander, Chinese wine and truffle oil.

We were recently invited to Just Like It!‘s latest outlet at Resorts World Sentosa and it was an interesting experience watching how NEW iCE cream are being made on the spot with 100% natural ingredients and liquid nitrogen.

Upon stepping into the Just Like It! outlet at Resorts World Sentosa, we felt as if we have just entered a science laboratory.

You probably might wonder what exactly is NEW iCE cream?

Well, NEW iCE cream is a term coined by Just Like It! to name their ice cream because their ice cream does not fall within the typical categories of traditional ice cream or gelato due to its unique texture and flavour.

With the use of liquid nitrogen as a cooling agent, Just Like It!’s technique of making NEW iCE cream hastens the regular ice cream making process, resulting in a final product that is made up of extremely fine and small ice crystals, promising an incredibly smooth texture to the ice cream.

At Just Like It!, there are a variety of NEW iCE cream flavours that are available and when we were there, we tried the Mocha Cookies, Chocolate Toffee, Vanilla Mint, New PopCorn, Tropical Mango, Jolly Shandy, and even Tiger Beer!

As a matter of fact, Just Like It! has a designated Research and Development team which uses a special technique that can churn out almost any flavour of NEW iCE cream, using only the freshest premium quality of natural ingredients with no additives, colouring, stabilizers, or emulsifiers.

These are the secret recipes/ingredients that are used in the making of NEW iCE cream.

Our personal favourites of NEW iCE cream flavours are the Tropical Mango and the New PopCorn and if you’re wondering how much a scoop of NEW iCE cream will cost, the price starts from SGD$5.90 onwards.

Apart from NEW iCE cream, the Just Like It! outlet at Resorts World Sentosa also has a whole range of other food and beverage products for you to indulge in.

While interacting with Mr Bak, Chief Executive Officer of Just Like It!, he explained to us how the NEW iCE cream is much more healthier than the traditional ice cream or gelato because of its lower fat content.

While there has never been a F&B outlet in Singapore that makes ice cream on the spot with liquid nitrogen, the use of liquid nitrogen in culinary is not something that is new in the market because the local bars here previously used liquid nitrogen to make cocktails that give off a cool white vapour, giving the drink a mysterious effect.

And if you’re skeptical about consuming food & beverage products made with liquid nitrogen, don’t worry as the liquid nitrogen must be fully evaporated from the NEW iCE cream before it is being served to you. Liquid nitrogen is not an ingredient that is added to the NEW iCE cream but it is a medium used for making the NEW iCE cream. However, do note that while liquid nitrogen can be safely used in food or drink preparation, it should not be directly ingested so please don’t go around having the idea that it is safe to consume liquid nitrogen.

If you have never witness the making of ice cream on the spot before, heading down to Just Like It! is a worthwhile learning experience as you can watch the staffs in lab coats conjure your favourite New iCE cream.

Here’s a 3-minutes video clip showing how NEW iCE cream is being made at Just Like It! @ Resorts World Sentosa.

Just Like It! currently has four outlets in Singapore and they are located at Tampines One, Ang Mo Kio Hub, ION Orchard, and Resorts World Sentosa!

For more updates and promotions about Just Like It!, do check out Just Like It!’s Facebook Page!
