Disney’s Oz The Great and Powerful movie will be screening in the cinemas from 7 March 2013 onward and it will be the 1st Disney movie that I am planning to catch this year!
With a production budget of $200 million, Oz The Great and Powerful is a fantasy adventure film directed by Sam Raimi [the very same director whom directed all of the Spiderman movies]. Inspired by L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”, Oz The Great and Powerful is set before the 1939 film, “The Wizard of Oz”. The film stars James Franco as Oscar Diggs, otherwise known as the Wizard of Oz and it is available in the traditional 2D format, and as well as Disney Digital 3D, RealD 3D and IMAX 3D formats.

Personally, I am rather excited about this upcoming movie because “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” novel was my favourite novel when I was a child and it would be interesting to see how the plot of the movie would link to the 1939 film, “The Wizard of Oz”. Not only that, it would be good to reminisce my childhood days and catch the character [Oz] that I love on the big screen! I don’t know about you but I am definitely excited about Oz The Great and Powerful!

If you’re planning to reward your child for doing well in school before the March Holidays, bringing them to watch Oz The Great and Powerful might be a rather rewarding experience for them.

Here’s the Movie Plot [as extracted from Shaw’s Website]:
Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot–fame and fortune are his for the taking–that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting.

Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity–and even a bit of wizardry–Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

Thanks to MoovieSpy, we were given a pair of complimentary tickets to the Gala Premiere of “A Good Day to Die Hard” starring Bruce Willis and Jai Courtney at Golden Village [VivoCity]. We caught the Dolby Atmos version of the movie and we have to say, the movie sounded pretty the norm and because of the Parental Guidance [PG] Rating, the audio was heavily censored; resulting in the poor audio.

From A Good Day To Die Hard 2013
From A Good Day To Die Hard 2013

Here’s the Movie Plot [as extracted from GV’s Website]:
Iconoclastic, take-no-prisoners cop John McClane, for the first time, finds himself on foreign soil after traveling to Moscow to help his wayward son Jack–unaware that Jack is really a highly-trained CIA operative out to stop a nuclear weapons heist. With the Russian underworld in pursuit, and battling a countdown to war, the two McClanes discover that their opposing methods make them unstoppable heroes.

Our Review of the Movie:
To be really honest, we didn’t quite enjoyed the movie because sitting beside us was a rather cheap horny couple that were getting overly-intimate with one another. Since any form of recording devices weren’t allowed in the cinema, we didn’t have the chance to snap a photo of what they were doing but seriously, although the Gala Premiere was free, they shouldn’t use it as an opportunity to make love right? We certainly do not need a free R-21 show.

Anyhows, the movie is full of action and explosive scenes. Despite being heavily censored, the plot was nevertheless quite a surprise at the end. With that being said, we still feel that the PG Rating really spoilt the entire movie and the experience wasn’t that fabulous. Well, if you have caught all other movies except this one, you might want to consider catching A Good Day to Die Hard; otherwise, you might want to consider saving that money for other movies that will be premiering soon.

Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons [directed and written] by Stephen Chow was released on 7 February and Baby and I caught it on the 1st day of Chinese New Year [10 February]. Coincidentally, it so happened that the Cable Channel was screening two films starring Stephen Chow and so, we caught three films of Stephen Chow in a single day!

Movie Plot [as extracted from GV’s Website]:
This is a world plagued by demons, causing its human inhabitants unspeakable sufferings. Young demon hunter Xuan Zang, fearlessly guided by the belief of “giving himself for the greater cause”, risks his all and conquers a fish demon, a pig demon and the demon of all demons, Sun Wukong. He takes them in as his disciples, and melts them with love. Meanwhile, Xuan Zang discovers the true meaning of Greater Love himself. In order to atone for their own sins and save the lay people, the four or them embark on a journey to the west that’s full of challenges…

Our Review of the Movie:
People whom have caught Stephen Chow’s films before would probably have two types of reactions; the first being that the film is lame and a waste of money, and the second being that the film is hilarious and a good avenue to laugh it out loud. Personally, we are pretty neutral about the film.

In fact, we laughed throughout the movie but more than just laughing it out loud, we felt that the story of “Journey to the West” was so adulterated that everyone whom is familiar with the story of “Journey to the West” and expects something similar in Stephen Chow’s movie would be in for a disappointment.

With that being said, if you’re a fan of Stephan Chow or you enjoy watching movies like Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle and the likes, Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons might be something that might interest you.

We caught Ah Boys to Men Part 2 during its opening last Friday and yes, we just couldn’t wait to catch it that we booked the 1150pm slot despite being so tired. To conquer the “Z” Monster, we bought a Venti-Sized Cup of Starbucks Caramel Macchiato and some Nachos to munch on while watching the movie. Well, thankfully, we caught the movie in its entirety and because the movie was so funny, it kept us awake throughout.
We have heard from some people whom felt that Ah Boys to Men Part 1 is way better than Ah Boys to Men Part 2 and well, it is only expected that people have higher expectations of Ah Boys to Men Part 2 because Ah Boys to Men Part 1 was such a splendid production.

Movie Plot [as extracted from GV’s Website]:
After his recovery and realization of his mistakes, Ken returns to Tekong Island to continue his Basic Military Training (BMT). Determined to change, Ken prepares to prove himself.

However, this change in attitude from Ken, immediately draws the dislike and mockery from some his Section mates led by Lobang. They feel that he is following after Wayang King’s footsteps, just trying to flatter the commanders so that he can stand out. Ken tries to explain but to no avail. Instead, their misunderstandings deepen as the training continues. At the same time, Ip Man’s girlfriend left him for another guy. Unable to contain his anger, Ip Man seeks help from Lobang & his Section mates to hatch a plan for revenge on his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend.

The new boyfriend immediately informs his gang, and quickly locate Lobang and the Section mates at their usual place where they will have dinner before booking in. A fight broke out. Wayang King was the first to escape, while Ken hesitated, but eventually stayed behind to defend his Section mates.

When questioned by the Commanders, Ken defended his actions because he learned that he should “Leave no man behind” and can’t just run away. Seeing his Section mates being beaten up, is he wrong to go through thick and thin with them?

After this incident, what else is in store for Ken? What punishment will be met out because of the fight? How will the antagonisms between Ken, Wayang King, Lobang and the rest of the Section mates be resolved? In such an environment of mutual distrust and sabotage, will they be able to shake hands and work together, to face their greatest challenge?

Our Personal Review of the Movie:
Ah Boys to Men Part 2 is pretty heartwarming and funny at the same time. However, we personally feel that Director Jack Neo probably tried so hard to squeeze every aspect of BMT [Basic Military Training] into part 2 that it felt quite rushed. The storyline is good but lacks depth and while the actors portrayed their roles pretty well, their emotions displayed in the movie could have been better. With that being said, Ah Boys to Men Part 2 is still a movie worth catching!

Well, if you’re planning for a gathering with your Army Buddies or your loved ones, you might want to consider watching Ah Boys to Men Part 2 this weekend! We guarantee that you’ll definitely laugh non-stop from start till end!

We were very blessed when we received news from the folks at United International Pictures that we won tickets to the preview screening of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters at Shaw Lido. Alright, we caught the 3D version of the movie and though it may cost a little more, we honestly would recommend you to watch it in 3D because the graphics and effects are really solid. It is in fact one of the best 3D movies we have ever caught.

From 1/22/13

Here’s the Movie Plot [as extracted from Shaw’s Website]:
After getting a taste for blood as children, Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) have become the ultimate vigilantes, hell bent on retribution. Now, unbeknownst to them, Hansel and Gretel have become the hunted, and must face an evil far greater than witches…their past.

Our Review of the Movie:
I believe everyone of us are familiar with the story of Hansel & Gretel. For those who don’t, it is the classic story of how a young brother [Hansel] and his sister [Gretel] threatened by a cannibalistic witch living deep in the forest in a house constructed of cake and confectionery, save their own lives by outwitting her. Well, the movie has a rather similar plot as the classic story but with a modern twist added to it!

The movie is rated NC-16 and it should stay that way because of the gore and violence that may be way too much to handle for those under 16s. There’s also a brief nude scene but other than that, its just all bloody and messy. The genre of the movie falls between adventure and horror but I would say its more to the adventure part than horror. In fact, for someone like me whom don’t fancy horror movies, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters isn’t what I would consider a horror movie. So, it is a rather safe movie for all those who have a weak heart.

Anyhows, we shan’t spoil the surprise of the movie for you and well, don’t bother staying till the end of the credits because there isn’t any teaser or what not. However, if you do catch the 3D version of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, you would be in for a treat because a 4-minutes 3D sneak peek of G.I. Joe: Retaliation will be screened. And yes, it is only for the 3D sessions of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.

From 1/22/13

So, if you are still scratching your head over what movie to catch this weekend, I will highly recommend you to watch Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 3D!

Baby and I caught Taxi! Taxi! two weeks ago and it was the first movie that we caught this year. Well, the movie stars Gurmit Singh, Mark Lee and, Dr. Jia Jia and we personally felt that the movie was hilarious and rather entertaining. If you’re finding things to do on a rainy day, why not head indoors and catch a movie instead?

Movie Synopsis [as extracted from Golden Village’s Website]:
Taxi! Taxi! is a social comedy set in the metropolitan city-state of Singapore, told through the encounters of two characters who are in what is widely perceived as the most sociable profession on the island taxi drivers.

Inspired by famed blogger Dr Cai Mingjies real life accounts as a taxi driver in his bestseller Diary of a Taxi Driver: True Stories From Singapore’s Most Educated Cabdriver, the movie follows the trials and tribulations of a retrenched microbiology scientist, Professor Chua, as he turns to taxi driving after several failed job attempts.

Along the way, he befriends (although they didnt quite start off as friends from the get-go) a veteran taxi driver, Ah Tau. The two men, who appear to be polar opposites of each other in every aspect from educational levels, personalities, attitudes toward life and even the languages that they speak, eventually find themselves interdependent and influencing each other in ways that they probably had never imagined possible.

A fish out of water, Professor Chua gradually learns to move out of his comfort zone and sheltered life in the research lab, and adapt to the real world on the streets of Singapore. Yet, his biggest challenge of all, has to be: breaking the truth about his change of profession to his uninformed family his social-conscious mother-in-law, his elitist son who idolizes his career as a scientist, and his wife whom he vowed to never let her have to worry about the bread and butter issues throughout their marriage. Can he hide it from them forever? And will they still respect him as head of the house if he reveals it to them?

Ah Tau, on the other hand, has problems of a different nature. His son, Jia Jia, believes that his absent mother is on a trip around the world, and he has to continuously find ingenious ways to keep the boys belief alive, so as not to shatter his hope of seeing her again. Also, badly influenced by his own street Singlish that he uses to communicate with his passengers, Jia Jia spouts Singlish like a typical taxi driver whenever he speaks, and his kindergarten teacher who promotes Good English is surely not impressed. A loving father but whose means are limited by his capabilities, can Ah Tau provide whats best for his son?

Bugged by their own individual troubles and initial aversion to each other, the two unlikely buddies soon discover that they can actually help one another out, and show the other what he has never seen from his usual position all along. They finally realize that lifes dead ends can actually turn to passable roads, if you just approach them from a different angle and with a different attitude!

Gurmit Singh and Mark Lee play Professor Chua and Ah Tau respectively in this inspiring comedy about the choices, hope and friendship that one might encounter along the journey in life.

Our Review of the Movie:
By reading the movie synopsis alone, you more or less would have the gist and storyline of the movie. We personally felt that the movie was hilarious and really funny. It certainly portrayed the life of a taxi driver in Singapore pretty well [though I believe the portrayal could be more in-depth]. Since the movie is inspired by famed blogger Dr Cai Mingjies real life accounts as a taxi driver in his bestseller Diary of a Taxi Driver: True Stories From Singapore’s Most Educated Cabdriver, there might even be a Taxi! Taxi! [Part 2]?   Anyhows, it is still a good movie that is worth catching if you’re pretty depressed and gloomy about the recent wet weather.

It has been more than 2 days since we last blogged and we have been really busy over the last few days as we were hosting our relatives whom came all the way from England to Singapore for a short holiday. Therefore, in our few upcoming blog entries, we will be sharing about the itinerary that we planned for our relatives and also the activities that we have planned for them. And yes, thank God we’re still alive and kicking and that 21st of December wasn’t the end of the world [EOTW].
Also, we would like to offer our heartfelt congratulations to Saralyn and Jason as they have won a Frezfruta Hello Kitty Promotional Pack and a Bottle of Moscato D’ Asti by G.D Vajra, Italy, in the giveaways that we recently conducted respectively.

Anyways, the recent scandal about Zoey Raymond that we blogged about has drawn quite a lot of attention and Zoey Raymond has temporarily disabled her blog at www.zoeyraymond.com. As of now, only Zoey Raymond’s Twitter, Facebook Page, and Youtube Channel are available and she has not given her side of the story till date. Well, slowly but surly, the buzz about the scandal is slowly dying out and it is pretty heartening to know that Yuki Ng has moved on and is slowly on the road to recovery. With that being said, it is pretty odd that the limelight has been thrown entirely on Zoey Raymond and not Alvin Yang. After all, he should give everyone a clear explanation of his position right?

Anyhows, that is besides the point. Our blog entry today is about the movie [Jack Reacher] that we recently caught with our relatives at Golden Village [GV Plaza Singapura] and before we share about what we think of the movie, we do have some feedback about the theatre at GV Plaza Singapura, specifically Hall 6, and we hope that GV Plaza Singapura would take note of them:

While we do understand that GV Plaza Singapura screens multiple movies and the turnaround time for the theatres are pretty tight, cinema-goers like me would really appreciate that basic hygiene expectations are met i.e. the floors and seats are free from popcorns and litter and the seats are wiped and sanitised. In addition, for some reason, the atmosphere/air of Hall 6 has a pretty bad musky and damp smell and I really hope that GV Plaza Singapura would look into this matter and resolve the issues promptly.

Alright, so here’s the plot of Jack Reacher [as extracted from GV‘s Website]:

When a gunman takes five lives with six shots, all evidence points to the suspect in custody. On interrogation, the suspect offers up a single note: “Get Jack Reacher!” So begins an extraordinary chase for the truth, pitting Jack Reacher against an unexpected enemy, with a skill for violence and a secret to keep.

Our Review of the Movie:

The movie is pretty exhilarating and I would say that its genre is more of thriller than action because of its mind-boggling storyline. In fact, we are still quite baffled over certain scenes of the movie and by the way, the movie is an adaptation of Lee Child’s 2005 novel One Shot.

As certain scenes are quite repetitive, the movie can be quite draggy at times. If you have caught Wreck-It Ralph already, you might want to catch Jack Reacher if you haven’t got any other plans. And well, if you’re a fan of Tom Cruise and you like movies that keep you in suspense, catching Jack Reacher might be a good choice.

Here’s the Movie Trailer:

Also, it’s Christmas Eve today and we hope all you Winsomelifers will have a fabulous Christmas week ahead! Do grab the opportunity to spend some time with your loved ones and here’s wishing all of you a Merry Christmas in advance!

Stay tuned to more updates from us and God bless!

I wanted to continue from where I left off about my Genting Trip but because Wreck-It Ralph is going to be screening in the cinemas TOMORROW, I reckoned that it would be good for me to do a short write-up about how Baby and I felt about the movie and then continue my blog entry about the Genting Trip probably tomorrow!
Thanks to Nuffnang and Disney Studios Singapore, both Baby and I had the opportunity to catch Disney’s latest animation movie, “Wreck-It Ralph” just two days ago and we will highly recommend you to watch this movie if it is going to be the last movie you will ever watch on planet Earth [which we believe will not happen].

Here’s the Movie Plot of Wreck-It Ralph [as extracted from Golden Village‘s website]:

Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy(R)-winning director Rich Moore (TV’s “The Simpsons,” “Futurama”) take moviegoers on a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping journey in “Wreck-It Ralph.” Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly, “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” “Step Brothers”) is tired of being overshadowed by Fix-It Felix (voice of Jack McBrayer, “30 Rock”), the “good guy” star of their game who always gets to save the day. But after decades doing the same thing and seeing all the glory go to Felix, Ralph decides he’s tired of playing the role of a bad guy. He takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a game-hopping journey across the arcade through every generation of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero. On his quest, he meets the tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch, TV’s “Glee”) from the first-person action game Hero’s Duty. But it’s the feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman, “The Sarah Silverman Program”) from the candy-coated cart racing game, Sugar Rush, whose world is threatened when Ralph accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens the entire arcade. Will Ralph realize his dream and save the day before it’s too late?

Our Review of the Movie:

Disney’s movies are always heartwarming and Wreck-It Ralph isn’t an exception. In fact, there are many meaningful values that the little ones could learn from the movie and we really love the movie. Although we felt that the ending was pretty abrupt, we nonetheless enjoyed every single moment of the movie and we will give it two thumbs up!

If you’re still planning what to do over this weekends, heading to the movies to catch Wreck-It Ralph might just be the thing you need to cure that boredom.

Here’s the Movie Trailer for Wreck-It Ralph:

Also in light of recent events like the Zoey Raymond Saga and the Change in Instagram’s Policy; I might delay the blog post about Genting and probably give my two cents opinion about the recent news. We’ll see how things go. Meanwhile, we’re also in the midst of setting up our very own Formspring Corner; so do look out for that!

Last but not the least, our giveaway of a bottle of Moscato D’ Asti by G.D. Vajra, Italy, and a Frezfruta Hello Kitty Promotional Pack is ending in 1 day time and we are happy to announce that Jason Koh and Saralyn Low are currently in the lead for the giveaway respectively!

For those whom did not win in the giveaway, fret not because when you participate in our Winsomelifers’ Programme, you can still earn loyalty points every time you “visit” our blog, “like” a blog entry, or even “tweeting” about us; and with these loyalty points, you can redeem for stuffs like Popular Book Store Vouchers, Starbucks Gift Card, or a Golden Village Gift Card from us! Baby and I caught Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 last Saturday and it was a blast.
We don’t profess that we’re die-hard fans of the Twilight saga but if you’re not a fan of the Twilight saga, don’t bother reading the rest of this blog entry because you either love it or you hate it. For Baby and I, even though we haven’t read any of the books that were written by Stephanie Meyer, we absolutely love all of the Twilight movies.

Here’s the Movie Plot from GV‘s Website:

The astonishing conclusion to the series, THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN, PART 2, illuminates the secrets and mysteries of this spellbinding romantic epic that has entranced millions.

Here’s the Movie Trailer:

Our Review of the Movie:

The movie plot given by GV doesn’t really reveal much but if you check out Wikipedia, you more or less will know what happened in the movie. As usual, we shan’t spoil the surprise but if you really would like to know what we think of the movie, we’ve only got this to say; Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 was totally awesome and the movie nicely concluded the entire Twilight saga with a sweet and happy ending. Having grown up with the Twilight movie series since its first release in 2008, we really had an enjoyable journey watching Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and a whole lot of actors and cast whom made the Twilight saga a resounding success.

By the way, we caught the movie at GV City Square last Saturday and yes, please do check out our blog entry about GV City Square [which will be made available tomorrow via the following link]:
