We were very blessed when we received news from the folks at United International Pictures that we won tickets to the preview screening of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters at Shaw Lido. Alright, we caught the 3D version of the movie and though it may cost a little more, we honestly would recommend you to watch it in 3D because the graphics and effects are really solid. It is in fact one of the best 3D movies we have ever caught.

Here’s the Movie Plot [as extracted from Shaw’s Website]:
After getting a taste for blood as children, Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) have become the ultimate vigilantes, hell bent on retribution. Now, unbeknownst to them, Hansel and Gretel have become the hunted, and must face an evil far greater than witches…their past.
Our Review of the Movie:
I believe everyone of us are familiar with the story of Hansel & Gretel. For those who don’t, it is the classic story of how a young brother [Hansel] and his sister [Gretel] threatened by a cannibalistic witch living deep in the forest in a house constructed of cake and confectionery, save their own lives by outwitting her. Well, the movie has a rather similar plot as the classic story but with a modern twist added to it!
The movie is rated NC-16 and it should stay that way because of the gore and violence that may be way too much to handle for those under 16s. There’s also a brief nude scene but other than that, its just all bloody and messy. The genre of the movie falls between adventure and horror but I would say its more to the adventure part than horror. In fact, for someone like me whom don’t fancy horror movies, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters isn’t what I would consider a horror movie. So, it is a rather safe movie for all those who have a weak heart.
Anyhows, we shan’t spoil the surprise of the movie for you and well, don’t bother staying till the end of the credits because there isn’t any teaser or what not. However, if you do catch the 3D version of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, you would be in for a treat because a 4-minutes 3D sneak peek of G.I. Joe: Retaliation will be screened. And yes, it is only for the 3D sessions of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.

So, if you are still scratching your head over what movie to catch this weekend, I will highly recommend you to watch Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 3D!
