Hello Everyone,
as mentioned in our last blog post about our Taiwan Holiday 2012, Baby and I have spent two days in Central Taiwan and in order for us to cover as much attractions as possible, we have hired a driver whom brought us around to the different places that we wanted to go.

Getting Around In Central Taiwan:

Though utilising the public transportation is rather direct and straightforward, it is extremely difficult to move around with big luggage and cover a number of attractions in a short period of time. Moreover, travelling time via the public transportation can take extremely long. Hence, we decided to hire a driver that took us around in a Toyota Wish for 2 full days at a price of $7000 TWD [approx. $297.49 SGD].

On the first day of our Taiwan Holiday 2012, we spent the first day in CingJing and we visited several tourist attractions such as the Old England Manor, Carton King, Small Swiss Garden, and Green Green Grassland.

As we have tons of photographs to show, we will be blogging about the Old England Manor and the Carton King in this blog post; and we will be blogging about the Small Swiss Garden and Green Green Grassland in the next blog post.

Old England Manor

The Old England Manor is a really luxurious accommodation and a night’s stay on a weekday would cost you at least $16,500 Taiwan Dollars [TWD] which is equivalent to $701.23 Singapore Dollars* [SGD]. Hundreds of millions Taiwan Dollars have been pumped in to construct this property that took 9 years to complete. Most of the furnishings and constructs are imported from England and if you’re planning to check out the property’s interior, it would not be possible unless you’re a staying guest. Alternatively, if you wish to enter the building, you can pay $450 TWD [approx. $19.12 SGD] for an afternoon tea. Well, since we couldn’t really afford to stay here, we stopped by to take some really beautiful photographs of the place and its surrounding scenery. By the way, its free to enter the exterior of Old England Manor to take photographs.

Carton King

Carton King is a small retail shop that sells a wide variety of souvenirs made from paper and everything in Carton King [such as ceilings, tables, chairs] is made by corrugated paper. A souvenir which we found really unique is the leather-like paper bag that can be washed using machine!

Carton King Post Shop is where you can find tons of postcards to purchase as souvenirs. In fact, you can mail a postcard back to your home country too.

There are some really interesting cards that are being sold at Carton King and we bought some of them at a really good price. So, if you’re a pretty close friend of ours and your birthday falls in the remaining months of this year, expect to receive an interesting and unique birthday card from us.

Hello Everyone,
we truly apologise for not blogging over the last few days as we are currently in Taiwan for a holiday and we will only be back this Sunday evening.

As we just managed to get a stable wifi network, we are going to put up a rather short blog entry about our Taiwan trip thus far.

Background of Our Trip:

Baby and I have planned for this trip to Taiwan since a year ago and ever since our first trip to Taiwan together, we have made it a point to visit Taiwan every year.

For this year’s trip, it would be for 9 days 8 nights and we will be staying at 5 different properties. So far in our trip, we have put up at Ming Qin Min Su, Skylight BB and the Golden Spring Hotel. For the rest of our trip [that is tomorrow and the remaining days], we will be staying at Shui Wu and Vogue Star Serviced Apartment.

So far, the main attractions that we have visited thus far are Carton King, Swiss Garden, Green Green Grasslands, Guanyin Waterfall, 18 Degree C, Puli Winery, Guangxin Paper Mill, Liao Mayor Black Tea Shop, Sun Moon Lake, Ci En Pagoda, Car Accessories Shop in Taichung, Yi Fu Tang, Taiwan High Speed Rail, and Beitou Hot Spring. As for the rest of our trip, our itinerary is unconfirmed but tentatively, we would be visiting the Leofoo Village, Maokong Gondola, Shifen, Raohe Night Market, Shilin Night Market, Xi Men Ding, and Taipei Zoo.

Photography:

For this year’s trip, Baby and I are using two types of cameras to take photographs of our trip. One is the Canon Powershot S100 which I am personally using and the other is the Olympus EPL-3 which Baby is using. Because we take tons of photographs [up to more than 2 GB per day] everyday, we will put up two different links [one which has access to the photos that I take with the Canon Powershot S100 and the other which has access to the photos that Baby takes with the Olympus EPL-3]. Due to the huge volume of photographs taken each day, we will not carry out any image editing until we are back in Singapore. So meanwhile, all the photos that you see in the upcoming blog entries about our trip are all unedited.

+For a start, here are two links to the photographs that we have taken duing our first day in Taiwan this year.+

WARNING: this is a blog post that is full of photos and videos! For best viewing experience, do use the computer to check out this blog entry!
Hello Everyone,

I am sure everyone’s waiting for this blog post and I just can’t wait to show you all the beautiful pictures that we took at LegoLand Malaysia.

However, before I begin this blog entry proper, I would like to take this opportunity to thank M for linking me up with the PR Company [Bell Pottinger] to attend the exclusive media invitation to LegoLand Malaysia. Also, I would like to thank LegoLand Malaysia and Bell Pottinger for the warmth hospitality and welcome when we were at LegoLand.

Well, ever since Baby and I heard about LegoLand Malaysia a few months back, we have been thinking of making a trip down to check out what Legoland Malaysia has to offer. A 1-day adult [ages 12-59] ticket cost RM 140 and a 1-day child [ages 3-11]/senior [ages 60+] cost RM 110. Here’s one piece of very good news; if you book your tickets online 7 days in advance, the adult and child/senior ticket will cost ONLY RM 105 and RM 75 respectively!

To get to LegoLand from Singapore, you can either drive there or take the public buses! For both Baby and I, we decided to utilise the public buses. Here’s how you can get to LegoLand Malaysia via public tranportation.

First, you will have to take the MRT train to Jurong East Station. Once you have reached, head to the Jurong Bus Interchange and look out for CW3 or CW4 buses. These buses go to CIQ 2 [Malaysia Customs] via the Singapore Customs and the trip in will cost you SGD $4.

This is how the Causeway Link buses look like.

From LegoLand Malaysia Media Invite 2012

The interior looks very much like a tour coach bus.

From LegoLand Malaysia Media Invite 2012

The bus will reach the Singapore Customs in Tuas and you will have to alight the bus to clear immigration. Once that is done, board the same bus [CW3/CW4] and it will take you to CIQ2. After you get your passports stamped at CIQ2, you will have to board a separate bus [JPO2] to LegoLand Malaysia. This will cost you RM $2, so be sure you have small Malaysian currency notes on hand. By the way, JPO2 also goes to the Johor Premium Outlets; so if you fancy some shopping after checking out LegoLand Malaysia, you can do so at your convenience. However, do note that the frequency of buses are unlike that of Singapore’s; so please plan your trip properly before you go to LegoLand. For information regarding the busing details, you can check out http://www.legoland.com.my/Plan/Bus-Services/

This is the interior of JPO2, very much like the buses in Singapore but much more comfy.

From LegoLand Malaysia Media Invite 2012

The bus journery from CIQ2 to LegoLand will take about 20 minutes.

About 50 schools from Johore were invited to LegoLand Malaysia yesterday and though it wasn’t crowded, we had to queue for certain rides and attractions at LegoLand. Looking at the cheerful and joyful children certainly reminded us of our pre-school times!

The children were really so excited about going to LegoLand and here they are waiting just behind the entrance gates for it to open.

From LegoLand Malaysia Media Invite 2012

You can choose to purchase your tickets on the day you’re visiting but I would strongly recommend you to get your tickets online as you will enjoy great discounts. But well, if you’re a ticket collector, then you can purchase the tickets from the ticketing booths.

From LegoLand Malaysia Media Invite 2012

Here’s even more exciting news for you. LegoLand will be opening a water theme park next year and in 2014, they will have a LegoLand Hotel too! During the media briefing session, I overheard a conversation that a Hello Kitty Land is in the pipelines as well but I can’t be too sure how reliable this news is.

The Fire Academy is a rather interesting attraction as it requires the park guests to form up in groups of 4 to put out the fire in the shortest possible time.

Park guests will have to drive this Fire Truck to the intended destination and seriously, it takes teamwork to have this fire truck driven manually using kinetic energy.

From LegoLand Malaysia Media Invite 2012

Here’s where park guests will have to put out the fire and it takes team effort to put out the fire because one will have to aim the water hose at the right spot while the rest will have to pump water from the fire hydrant in order to have water flowing to the water hose.

This was what I meant! Just check out the video below about the Fire Academy Attraction at Lego City.

Hello Everyone,
this would be our last blog entry about our Kelong Trip. If you haven’t read Part 1 and Part 2 yet, be sure to check it out!

Anyways, breakfast was included and for that morning, we had seafood porridge and it was simply delicious.

From Kelong Trip 2012

The Kelong also rear their own fishes [which you can order and bring back to Singapore]. Here, we are watching the process of how the skilled fishermen used just a simple fishing line, bait, and hook, to catch the fish!

The skilled fishermen are extremely skillful! Just watch the video below and you will probably get what I mean!

These were the fishes they caught!

Probably yes; to let our children experience what living on a Kelong is like. Fishing enthusiasts might even return for more fishing.

From Kelong Trip 2012

and so this concludes our trip to the Kelong! I’m very sure most of you are waiting to check out our blog entry on our LegoLand trip; so do give us some time as we consolidate all the photos and stay tuned to our blog for more updates!

God bless!

Hello Everyone,
today, I will be blogging about our recent Kelong Trip (Part 2) and in this particular blog entry, we will be sharing with you what we did at the Kelong and the many photos that we took at the Kelong itself.

As mentioned in our previous blog entry (Part 1), the Kelong offers loads of photo opportunities and hence, both baby and I seized the chance to take lots of self-shots!

Here are photos of me [taken by Baby] using the natural surroundings as the backdrop.

and here are photos of Baby [taken by myself]. As you can see from the photos, I’m not a great photographer and I do have loads to learn about photography. Are there any willing photography master/shifu whom is willing to accept me as an apprentice for the next 3 months?

From Kelong Trip 2012
From Kelong Trip 2012

From Kelong Trip 2012

While Baby was going around to take more photographs, I decided to go fishing for fishes. If you ask any seasoned Kelong-goers why they enjoy going to Kelongs, they will only have one thing to tell you; that is, to fish! As it was our first time there, I thought the Kelong would provide fishing rods like these…

From Kelong Trip 2012

but I was given this [with squids as baits]…so, if you’re planning to fish at the Kelong, you might want to consider bringing your own fishing rod. I was told that some Kelongs actually rented out fishing rods but apparently at this one, they don’t.

From Kelong Trip 2012
From Kelong Trip 2012

Seriously, I didn’t even managed to catch any fishes during our trip to the Kelong and according to the seasoned Kelong-goers, it was not a good day to fish as most of them didn’t really catch much fishes except for some small ones. So there I was waiting…

From Kelong Trip 2012

and waiting..[trying to smile for the camera]

…….and waiting…… but still no sight of any fishes [the sian look]

until Baby’s cousin exclaimed really loudly and said she caught something really huge.

In the next part of our Kelong Trip blog entry [Part 3], we will be sharing with you what we did on the final day, conclude the entire Kelong Trip, and share with you our own personal opinions on whether you should embark on a Kelong Trip [though I guess by now, you would have a rough gauge/feel as to whether you should embark on a Kelong Trip].

So stay tuned to more updates from us.

God bless!

Hello Everyone,
this is one of the long-awaited blog post that most of you readers have been waiting for and now that I have already uploaded all the photos for our Kelong Trip on Google+, it is now time for me to introduce you to this unique place that Baby and I went to during the Hari Raya long weekend last month.

As there are more than 131 photos that we took during the Kelong Trip, I will be dividing the blog post into 3 different parts and I will also be featuring some photos which I personally feel are great shots [using the Canon Powershot S100 Camera] taken by Baby and I.

In preparation for the trip, all Baby and I brought along were a backpack containing the following essential items:

2 Sets of Clothings [one for night, one for the next day]
Toiletries [shampoo, shower gel, toothpaste, toothbrush]
2 Body Towels

We also brought along other items like camera, camera battery charger, handphone charger, newspaper, and some snacks/tidbits.

For this trip, the cost per person is $60 [inclusive of return boat rides, 1X seafood dinner, 1X bbq seafood supper, 1X breakfast, and lodging for 1 night]. Just a point to note, there are many Kelongs in Malaysia but the one that we went to was Chia Soon Kelong [located somewhere at Pasir Gudang, Malaysia].

From Kelong Trip 2012

To get to the Kelong from Singapore, you will have to take the boat from the Changi Ferry Terminal [the one where bumboats also go to Pulau Ubin] to the Pasir Gudang Port. As mentioned, due to the large numbers of photos taken, part 1 of this blog entry would be mainly about our journey to the Chia Soon Kelong.

Here are some photos of the Changi Ferry Terminal with all the bumboats.

Both Baby and I were so excited about the trip that we can’t help but to keep posing for photos!

And here is where you purchase your boat tickets to the Kelong or other parts of Malaysia.

In case you need details about where the boat can take you to, we have taken some pictures of the information stands that were on display.

Baby and I thought we were going to take this kinda boat a.k.a ferry…

From Kelong Trip 2012

but we ended up in this…!

From Kelong Trip 2012

I don’t know if we’re really growing too old for this sort of thrills but when the boat kept jerking from side to side, we were so afraid that it might capsize anytime. Just look at Baby’s reluctant face for a photo.

Ya, I wasn’t feeling uhh that good and kept my eyes fixed on the life-jacket in case anything happen [come to think of it, it was quite epic.]

Trying to get some artistic shots from the bumboat..

Those who frequents Tekong would probably know what this particular ship is used for.

When we finally reached the port/customs, we were so glad we made it in one piece. But to our horror, we weren’t going to take the same boat to the Kelong. In fact, we had to switch to a sampan speed boat instead! Sorry ah, Baby and I really too old for this sorta stuffs liao so must understand.

and off we go in the sampan speed boat which had my butt aching for a few days due to the bumpiness!

From Kelong Trip 2012

It was pretty amazing I managed to overcome my fear of the sampan speedboat, so much so that I captured a video of us on the speedboat! Here’s just a 30 seconds clip of us on the speedboat. Just look at the sea and see how fast we travelled!

After the rather exhilarating speedboat ride, we caught the first sight of the Kelong from afar.

And so we arrived at Chia Soon Kelong, the place we are gonna call home for 1 night. Looks and sounds abit depressing but well, it was our first time experiencing life on a Kelong and its pretty amazing that Baby and I were so adventurous enough to explore the more rustic side of life.

From Kelong Trip 2012

When we arrived, we took a mini tour around the Kelong and here’s where we would be putting up for the night. The accommodations are really basic so don’t expect anything fanciful. Also, the cubicles are separated by a thin wooden partition and the only sort of privacy you would get would be the curtains that you can draw across [which isn’t really any helpful anyway]. So, for you naughty couples, please don’t try any sort of hanky panky unless you want to offer some free show to other people on board.

I believe almost everyone reading this post would be wondering how the toilets look like, so here it is!

and if you’re wondering where all your poops and pee goes to, it goes right out to the sea where you fish the fish you eat. So, I wonder if anyone is going to abstain from eating seafood now that I’ve mentioned this.

From Kelong Trip 2012

There’s sink available for you to wash your hands after you pee and poop.

Here’s where the Kelong actually rears some fishes of their own and also where dogs freely roam around.

and being a dog-lover myself, I happily hopped across to the other side [which was a wrong move] and met up with all the dogs whom happily thought I was a female and kept humping my legs.

you know what… these dogs are really blessed because they get to eat crabs and prawns everyday for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and supper.

From Kelong Trip 2012

After seeing that the coast was clear and that I survived the dog frenzy, Baby happily hopped across too.

From Kelong Trip 2012

We spotted this crab that was hanging onto the nets and I was quite tempted to pick it up but I decided otherwise.

Bored playing with the dogs, we went for more walkabouts and here’s the outer-deck of the Kelong where you can fish.

From Kelong Trip 2012

The outer-deck is also where the bbq seafood supper was going to take place that evening.

From Kelong Trip 2012

Seriously, if you’re looking for good photo opportunities, the Kelong is a really good place for shutterbugs.

From Kelong Trip 2012

and here’s where we had our meals, sort of like a living room cum dining room kinda concept.

In case you’re wondering if there are any form of entertainment available, yes there is! In fact, they have a television, a karaoke set, mahjong table, and poker cards for you to watch, sing, and play all you want. But honestly, the purpose of going to a Kelong is to fish!, not watch, sing, and play.

So here’s the blog entry [part 1] of our Kelong Trip. Do stay tuned to part 2 and part 3 of our Kelong Trip where we will share with you the wonderful sights that we saw, and the activities that we did at the Kelong! If you have never experienced living in a Kelong before, this is one blog entry you must read so that you can decide for yourself if you would like to experience the more rustic side of life that nature can offer.

Stay tuned to more updates from us!

God bless!
