Hello Everyone,
here’s a blog entry on the featured shops that my team- the Urban Team, were assigned to during the Greenwich V Experience that was held more than 2 weeks ago!

The Urban Team

The Various Teams of Bloggers Involved in the Greenwich Experience!

Just in case you miss out on my previous blog entry about my Greenwich V Experience, you can check it out here.

Here’s 3 shops that I will feature for this entry!

1). Video Ezy

Video Ezy opened its first store in Singapore in 2001 and through the years, it has become the premier movie rental and retail chain with 15 stores conveniently located islandwide. Do you know?!, Video Ezy actually originated from Australia? Well, I bet you didn’t! In fact, I was really surprised when I found out as I thought it was all along a Singapore enterprise. Well, if you’re staying around the vicinity and you’re looking for a place to rent DVDs, here’s the place to check out!

2). Toast Box

A known brand to many, Toast Box is owned and managed by the Breadtalk Group Limited and it has always been my favourite place for a quick breakfast as their toast is simply just awesome! . Do you know?!, the first Toast Box outlet was located at the Food Republic Wisma Atria and now, it is situated at the Basement Level of Wisma Atria.

If you notice, every Toast Box outlets feature a light, clean look and I kinda like the rustic ambience it has. And if you have yet to visit Toast Box, you got to try their Peanut Butter Thick Toast because it is scrumptiously crusty on the inside and heavenly soft on the inside. Bet you wouldn’t know this, but the thickness of the toast is actually 2.5cm!

Here are pictures of my team mate, Hazel, getting a hand’s on session at preparing Toast!

Toast Box’s Yummy Peanut Butter Thick Toast

3). Rosabelle Launderette

Rosabelle Launderette offers personal and commercial laundry services and the best thing is, it comes with free delivery and pickup services! Not only do they provide professional clothes and linen laundry cleaning service, they also offer designer bag, wallet, and luggage cleaning services as well! Someone once asked me if there were places that offers cleaning services for designer bags and wallets and I used to tell them no! Now, I can direct them to Rosabelle Launderette! If you’re asking the same thing too, do check out what Rosabelle Launderette has to offer you.

Alright, so now that I’m done with the featured stores, and you’re still wondering what the GreenwichV Experience is all about, here’s a short video to perhaps enlighten you:

Also, don’t forget to cast your votes for us on 13 March 2012 because 6 lucky voters will walk away with a $50 Greenwich V voucher each!

Last but not the least, I also have a few things to give out to 4 very lucky readers of my blog.

Hello Everyone,
it was supposed to be a normal routine day of having dinner at some normal food and beverage establishment until Baby called and informed me that Burger King (BK) was having a One-for-One promotion! So without any further hesitation, we decided to dine at Burger King @ Serangoon NeX. When I arrived there, the queue was so long that it stretched all the way to the nearby Bubble Tea Shop! So like any typical Kiasu Singaporean, I queued up to buy the set meal and while waiting, I was just scrutinising the outlet and to my pleasant surprise, the interior decoration of BK has improved quite a fair bit, especially for a fast-food restaurant! The designs were very contemporary and chic, and the colour scheme just matches their branding! Not only that, they now have a see-through glass panel where you can observe how your burgers are being prepared, very much like Subway’s concept. Well, there are pros and cons to this but I guess it gave BK a fresh look!

Well, I’m not going to spoil the surprise as to how the new BK concept looks like but if you want to find out, do head down to the BK @ Serangoon NeX because I’m not sure if the other BK outlets have revamp themselves yet.

So, anyway, the One-for-One promotion that BK was having is known as “The BK Way of Chicken” and just for yesterday, there were no fish or beef items served. They only served chicken and for that, they gave away one chicken burger set meal for another chicken burger set meal! Though its an old marketing method used to increase sales and generate publicity, I felt that it has served BK’s purpose.

We ordered a Mushroom Swiss Tendergrill Chicken Set Meal [with Passionfruit Tea, and French Fries], a Spicy Tendergrill Chicken Panini Set Meat [with Coke, and Onion Rings], a Box of 6 Chicken Tenders, and a Taro Turnover.

So here’s what we ordered for our dinner!

As usual, I love BK’s Mushroom Swiss Tendergrill Chicken Burger because the mushrooms and its sauce are so flavourful and the chicken is grilled to perfection. The Spicy Panini Tendergrill Chicken is also great tasting as well and I kinda prefer it than MacDonald’s McSpicy because BK’s serving portion is larger and the spice used is more aromatic than Mac’s

From BK Way of Chicken 2012

The Chicken Tenders is BK’s new product and well, it just wasn’t up to my expectation as I felt that Mac’s nuggets were more better-tasting. BK’s Chicken Tenders tasted quite plain and was quite dry when I chewed it. Moreover, the Chicken Tenders is quite rough for the mouth and because of its extremely dry texture, it just didn’t make the cut! Some improvements needed please.

From BK Way of Chicken 2012

So yups, for those of you who managed to buy the 1-for-1 promotion, congratulations! When I finished dining at BK and left the restaurant, the queue was still there and it stretched way further than the Bubble Tea Shop. =X

Hello Everyone,
thanks to the organisers from OMY.SG and the Far East Organisation, I was really honoured to have been invited and chosen as one of the fifteen bloggers who participated in the GreenwichV Experience last Saturday!

So, prior to the commencement of the event, my team [the Urban team] decided to do a site recee and take a stroll there. And within 30 minutes, we practically combed through the entire place and were ready to rock the place.

Our starting point was the Empire State Restaurant and there, we were briefed by our game master a.k.a facilitator, Janet, on the rules of the game and following which, we were treated to a really extremely gigantic beef burger served with fries by the side. The name of this dish is known as the Empire State Burger Trust me, even though there were 5 of us in the team, we couldn’t even finish 3/4 of the entire dish. And well, after the burger came the Empire State Pizza and last but not the least, the Meatball Spaghetti! By the time the last dish came, we wondered if we would still have the stomach for the rest of the F&B Outlets that were part of our race.

Our Second Stop- Chinta Manis [English translation would be Sweet Love]

Well, the Kuehs and Pastries here are just fabulous. In fact, we tried their Ondeh Ondeh and their Chocolate Hazelnut Cake and it was heavenly! The ingredients used were extremely fresh and the sweets were just balanced in taste. [not too sweet and not too plain]. If you are looking for some traditional handmade Nonya Kuehs for your party and events, this is the place to get them!

Our Third Stop- Hockhua Tonic

We were being tasked to find out the price of their most expensive and hot-selling birds’ nest here and had to also know which particular brands they were. It was to my surprise that after this particular visit, I realised that birds’ nest were not that expensive after all. A lesson learnt for me. Perhaps maybe I could get this as a gift for my mum during Mother’s Day! =P

Our Fourth Stop- Mai Thai Restaurant

Mai Thai Restaurant only has 3 outlets in Singapore, with GreenwichV being its latest. I particular like the ambience of the restaurant because it is quite chic, contemporary, and yet also has a traditional element to it. Here, we were served beverages, Tom Yum Soup, Prawn Cakes, Beef Stew, and Stir-Fried Basil Chicken. For myself, I had Lime Juice as my beverage while the ladies had Thai Iced Tea. Their Tom Yum Soup and Prawn Cakes were my favourite and if you are going to drop by, do give it a try as it is really worth it.

Our Fifth Stop- Paradise Inn

Gosh, its another food outlet again and this time, we were served Fried Rice, Fried Prawns Coated with Salted Egg, Sweet and Sour Pork, and Stir-Fried Vegetables. Here, I personally like the Fried Prawns Coated with Salted Egg because this dish is not only unique but it is also flavourful and fried till perfection. The prawns were very fresh and it was just awesome. Not just food alone, I also like the restaurants interior decoration because of its traditional features.

Our Sixth Stop- Berrylite

Yet, another food stop! Hahas. We were all trying to stomach in all the delicious food that were served to us thus far but well, at least this was something really lite for our stomachs! I particularly like the store’s bright decorations and contemporary interior design. The service staff were extremely friendly and we were presented with various flavours of yoghurt and smoothies to try. For those of you who really know me, I don’t like yoghurt and I have never ever in my 24 years of living on planet earth, gulped down even a cup of yoghurt! But Berrylite was an exception for me. Here’s why, I was sampling their Red Velvet Yoghurt and seriously, it did not even tasted like yoghurt to me at all. In fact, it tasted like those MacDonald’s soft-serve ice-cream [not an insult here] and all I felt was as if I was eating a “Chocolate flavoured Ice-Cream”! So yes, tasted like ice-cream but minus all the extra calories! From now on, I will consider eating yoghurts from Berrylite and I don’t have a phobia for yoghurts anymore thanks to Berrylite! =D

Our Seventh Stop- VideoEzy

Do you know that VideoEzy was founded in Australia? Well, I didn’t knew that because all along, I thought that VideoEzy was a local enterprise. We always learn something new everyday don’t we? Here, we were tasked to find out what are the various rental price plans and what the prices are. Simple task indeed and well, here you see me trying to be Tintin!

Our Eighth Stop- Toastbox

Here, we were served a Peanut Butter Thick Toast and A Bowl of Chicken Curry! Honestly, I have been patronising ToastBox many times and I always am intrigued by their “mountain-shaped butter”. Not just that, I particular enjoy their thick toasts which are always made to perfection. In fact, I very much enjoy their breakfast sets as they have more varieties of food than Ya Kun.

Our Ninth Stop- Cedele

This was my virgin experience to Cedele and I was absolutely blown away by its concept! Healthy food, healthy living indeed. We were served with two beverages, one a yoghurt-like drink and the second, an ABC fruit juice. We were also treated to their Red Velvet Cake and also a plate of Steamed Fish served with Greens by the Side, and a plate of Mini Beef Burgers! We had a rather beefy affair the whole day indeed. =D So yes, I particular like their food because they were all made with natural/organic ingredients, prepared with healthy cooking methods where there’s no preservatives used! Oh, and Cedele’s most popular cake is their carrot cake! If you are looking for something healthy, try Cedele because I will soon find myself visiting Cedele more frequent than ever before.

Our Tenth Stop- Rosabelle Launderette

From its name, you can most probably guess that Rosabelle Laundrette is in the laundry business. Here, we were tasked to find out the costs of sending a suit and an evening gown for laundry cleaning services and well, it was an easy task indeed. What was extra special about this particular laundry shop is that it has laundry services for those expensive and posh handbags, like your typical Gucci, LV, Prada and etc.! I haven’t heard of anything like it but well, if you ever asked yourself where you can get your expensive handbags to be sent for cleaning, you might just want to check out this place.

Our Final Stop- Phoenix Medical Group

Here, one of us from the team is to try their facial wash product and yes, yours truly here was handpicked/arrowed to try out their facial wash product. It was my virgin experience doing a facial in a commercial setting by the way but after the experience, I can’t wait to try it again! After the facial wash, my face was extremely smooth and Baby can vouch for that. My face felt so clean that I can’t helped but to keep touching my face. Well, Phoenix Medical Group not just provides facial products but they do also provide other aesthetic products and you might just want to check them out. They also have health screening services available and personally, I felt that the price was pretty reasonable.

So after the long day of eating and walking and walking and eating, we finally headed back to our meeting point to upload all the photographs that we took for the day. And well, for the entire race, my team came in 3rd placing and we walked away with $100 GreenwichV Vouchers where we could use it at any of the shops at GreenwichV. If you’re staying around Yio Chu Kang/Seletar, be sure to check out this new food haven where you can expect to find lots of interesting eateries. Not only that, on the 18th and 19th of February which is this Saturday and Sunday, GreenwichV is also organising a weekend carnival where you can experience the wonderful and exciting treats they have installed for you. Oh yes, Baby particular like the Cold Stone Cream Ice-Cream giveaway! [yes it’s free!]

And one last thing before I end off this entry, if you enjoyed my team’s blog entry, do give us your vote and vote us as your favourite team! You might be asking me why you should vote right? Well, you should vote because 6 lucky voters will walk away with a $50 GreenwichV Shopping Voucher! To vote for us, simply check out http://blog.omy.sg/greenwich-v/vote-win/ and cast your votes! Voting begins from 16th March 2012!

Hello Everyone,
today’s Valentine’s Day and so here’s wishing all of you readers a Happy Valentine’s Day!

Well, Valentine’s Day in Singapore is usually very commercialised because you will see the prices of roses going up and you will more often than not come across many restaurants whom want to capitalise on this opportunity to earn some extra profits with their “Special” Valentine’s Day Menu.

As for Baby and I, we both celebrated Valentine’s Day with a simple dinner at Popeye’s @ Punggol East! Ok, the thing is this, although Valentine’s Day is just once a year, we didn’t want to spend so much money on just this day alone because we would rather spend it over the weekends where we could have more time with one another. Moreover, the Popeye’s food voucher that we brought from Groupon can still be used so we thought why not just utilise it on this day?

Well, in total, we spent less than $15 for this entire meal!

From Valentine’s Day 2012

The Chicken Tenders is a way tad too salty! I didn’t really fancy it and after eating too much chicken for a day, I think I am going to abstain myself from chicken for a few weeks.

From Valentine’s Day 2012

The Mashed Potato with its Gravy Sauce tasted perfect. In fact, I like the gravy alot and the mashed potato was not too soft and neither is it too hard either. The texture was just right.

From Valentine’s Day 2012

One of Popeye’s Signature Sides, the Corn! Well, when I dipped my spoon in and scooped some corns to eat, there was already a buttery taste and upon biting the corns, the sweet juices of the corn just oozes out. Way much better than the corn at MacDonalds.

From Valentine’s Day 2012

And as for the gifts that I got for Baby…

Well, I gotten a stuffed toy from CNS for her. And while on the way to Popeye’s, she took the stuffed toy out and displayed it at the dashboard of my car.

From Valentine’s Day 2012

And Baby made me chew this white chocolate with the words, “Happy Valentine’s” just so that she could snap a picture of me.

From Valentine’s Day 2012

Oh, and did I mention? Baby loved the stuffed toy so much that she put it into her handbag with its head popping out. Machiam like bringing a dog out for a walk.

From Valentine’s Day 2012

*Tada* These were the gifts that I gotten for Baby. A Stuffed Toy from CNS, a Handmade Card, A Box of Royce Chocolate, and a Small Bouquet of Flowers consisting of 3 Pink Roses and Fillers.

From Valentine’s Day 2012

And these were what Baby gotten for me. A Handmade Card, a Chocolate Heart-Shaped Cake, and a Pair of Tickets to this Saturday’s Singapore Airshow 2012!

From Valentine’s Day 2012

So yes, this was how we celebrated our Valentine’s Day this year and no, I didn’t spend a bomb because when you truly love someone and wishes to bless them, it really doesn’t matter how much those things cost; rather, what is most important is the thought that goes along with it! As the saying goes, you can give without loving but you can’t love without giving.

Once again, Happy Valentine’s Day and stay tuned for more updates from us!

Hello Everyone,
today is the 7th day of the Chinese New Year and its also known as “Ren Ri‘. So, here’s wishing all of you a Happy Birthday!

Well, Baby and I recently dined at an Italian Cafe which is known as the Avanti Espresso and it is situated at Robertson Quay. We must say, this is perhaps one of the best cafe that we have been to so far and the service rendered was impeccable. What’s more, the dining ambience was just superb and cosy.

And how did we chanced upon the cafe? Well, Baby was just searching for some awesome food deals on Streetdeals and then, she chanced upon this awesome food deal which seemed quite value-for-money. So, I bought the dining voucher which cost me just $19.80 for 2 persons for a 3 Course Authentic Italian Cuisine consisting of a Soup + Main Course + Dessert. If you are searching for a similar deal, Outlet [click for more information] is offering it at a price of $19.90

Hello Everyone,
this is one long overdue post about 8 Degrees Taiwanese Bistro which is situated along Yio Chu Kang Road. My very first entry about 8 Degrees Taiwanese Bistro can be found here https://awinsomelife.org/2011/09/03/8-degrees-taiwanese-bistro-%E5%85%AB%E5%BA%A6%E7%A9%BA%E9%97%B4/

So this time round, Baby and I decided to introduce this place to Alvin and offer him a treat!

No GST and Service Charge for their food but I believe that it has already been factored into the listed price.

From 8 Degrees

Duck Breast Meat with Mango Salsa. Nothing really special about this dish because its really simple and easy to prepare. However, I must say that the mango salsa was fantastic.

From 8 Degrees

Oyster Egg Omelette [also known as Au Jian]. Honestly, I would rather order this dish from Chomp Chomp as it is better tasting. The sauce is extremely starchy and too sweet for our taste buds. We don’t recommend this dish.

From 8 Degrees

Fried Spicy Chee Cheong Fun. The Chee Cheong Fun was tough and the taste was just bland. We don’t recommend this dish.

From 8 Degrees

Deep Fried Chicken Cutlet. Seriously, I think ordering this from the Shilin Taiwanese Street Stall is much better as they are more flavourful. This dish was just not up to our expectations. We don’t recommend this dish.

From 8 Degrees

Crystal Shrimp Fried Rice. This is the best tasting dish out of the rest of the dishes that we ordered. The fried rice was fragrant and flavourful. However, the crystal shrimp has abit of a raw taste.

From 8 Degrees

Well, as it was the 2nd time that we dined there, we obviously had higher expectations and was hoping that there could be improvements in the quality of food and service. However, the quality of the food was just not up to our standards and we probably would not dine there again as it is not worth the money. Though food quality was below average, there was a slight improvement in their service. Overall, we would generally recommend you to try out this Bistro if you want to explore something new. However, if you are looking for a Bistro that serves quality food, then this place might not be suitable for you.

By the way, parking there can be a challenge as there are limited parking lots available. However, fret not because there is a valet parking service which charges $4 per vehicle. If you spend more than $48.00 at 8 Degrees Taiwanese Bistro, the valet parking fee will be waived!

Hello Everyone,
today’s review will be on Suan Thai Restaurant which is situated at Killiney Road.

Alright, Baby and I purchased the dining voucher from Outlet’s Website and it cost us $32.80 for 2 persons. Suan Thai offers traditional & authentic Thai cuisine and the food are served a-la-carte buffet style. Suan Thai is located near Somerset MRT Station and is within walking distance.

The ambience of the restaurant is compact and cosy and they have both indoor and outdoor dining areas.

From Suan Thai 2011
From Suan Thai 2011

And here’s the menu

From Suan Thai 2011

So by purchasing the voucher from Outlet, how much did we save? Let’s see, the regular price for having lunch there on a Saturday is $42.14 and so we save $9.34 by purchasing the voucher from Outlet.

But seriously, this visit would perhaps be our first and last time and we won’t recommend Suan Thai Restaurant.

Here are the food that we ordered;

Stir-Fried Mixed Seafood with Basil and Long Beans

From Suan Thai 2011

Chicken Wrapped in Pandan Leaf [chicken was fragrant but is extremely tough to chew]

From Suan Thai 2011

From Suan Thai 2011

From Suan Thai 2011

In general, 90% of the dishes that we ordered were served cold. Some of the dishes were overcooked and were really tough to chew. As Suan Thai has won various awards in the culinary arena, we thought that the food quality would be superb but we were pretty much disappointed. The last I checked, many people have already purchased the dining vouchers from various websites, so well, my opinion is, don’t expect too much from Suan Thai. I guess the food and beverage quality could be bad because of the heavy crowds. If you ask me, I would rather recommend Sakon Thai which is situated at Serangoon North as the service and food quality is way better.

Hello Everyone,
here is the much anticipated entry about what we did for Christmas and the places we visited.

24th December Christmas Eve:

Well, Baby and I both met up around 1000hours and we headed to Suntec City for breakfast! So our first breakfast for the day was the hearty MacDonald’s Breakfast Meal. And so after which, we went up to the Toys R Us Store to shop for Serene’s Baby Shower Gift [the reason why we specially went to Suntec City]. We got the 2-in-1 Baby Walker which cost about $49.95 and then went back down to buy Royce Chocolate for Ruby’s Christmas present.

From Christmas 2011
From Christmas 2011

So having gotten all the presents, we headed to Klapsons Boutique Hotel where we stayed for a night. We initially thought of Studio M but having seen some really positive reviews about Klapsons, we decided to give it a try. By the way, Klapsons was Baby’s suggestion and we were glad we chose Klapsons over Studio M. You will see why in the following photographs:

As you can see, Klapsons is a rather nice boutique hotel with lots of amenities and the service rendered is similar to that offered at Fullerton Hotel Singapore [I’m comparing with Fullerton because I used to work there]. By the way, Klapsons have 17 rooms and they are all designed differently from one another, like the New Majestic Hotel in Chinatown. The target customer of Klapsons is mainly corporate guests so room rates are actually cheaper during the weekends than during the weekdays. And yes, I cannot emphasize this enough, the service is very personalised and is similar to that of 5 stars hotels. In fact, many of the amenities that are available at Klapsons are only available in suites of 5 stars hotels which cost a few thousands for a night’s stay. So, do check out what Klapsons have to offer and do book early as they are always fully booked!

So, I planned the rest of the programme for the night of Christmas Eve, and for our dinner, we dined at Pizza Hut at Serangoon NeX Shopping Mall. Thanks to my brother, Alvin, whom sponsored us complimentary vouchers to dine there.

Yes, we had all of the above at Pizza Hut for free. Thanks to my really sweet brother!

And following which, as the surprise that I had planned for Baby could only take place at 2140 hours and it was only 1930hours after we had our dinner, I had to delay some time and we literally combed through the whole of NeX Shopping Mall. Thankfully, this took up quite a lot of time.

We went to the Pet Lover’s Centre to look at Pets!

When it was about time, I revealed my surprise for Baby and yes, I treated her to the Mission Impossible Movie at the Shaw Premiere Cinema, which is equivalent to GV’s Gold Class Cinema.

The seats are extremely cool! Its fully automatic and even has a button where you can press and call for a service staff to attend to you.

Baby filling up the lucky draw coupons. Really pray hard that we will be able to win the grand prize of a Macbook Air! =P

Yes, you saw it right, we had a mini countdown party in the cinema theatre and were each served a glass of complimentary champagne.

While I must say that the service provided by the Premiere team were outstanding, I can’t say the same for the ticketing team. In fact, we were utterly disappointed with them and have emailed our feedback regarding this issue. Hopefully, we will be able to hear from them soon.

So after our movie, we headed to Ang Mo Kio Police Station to give Alvin a Christmas surprise! Baby and I were standing outside the Police Station wondering how best to surprise Alvin but in the end, because we looked really suspicious, our surprise gave way but nonetheless, we were glad to have cheered Alvin up, especially when he is on duty on Christmas eve just to protect our city. Hence, that’s what we did for Christmas Eve and there will probably be two more entries along the way so stay tuned~!

Hello Everyone,
Baby and I are big fans of Bak Kut Teh and in today’s entry, I am going to introduce to you this particular Bak Kut Teh store that we often go to.

Name of Store: Old Ang Mo Kio 628 Lai Jiu Fa Bak Kut Teh
Location: Bock 644, Hougang Avenue 8, #01-261
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday [09:00-22:00 hours]
Mode of Payment: Cash Only

The following photos show what we usually order whenever we dine there. Besides those shown in the photo, they also have pig trotters, pig intesting, pig stomach and pig liver as well.

Their pork ribs are especially tender and juicy, and they are cut into small portions so that it is easier to chew on. What I probably like most about this dish is the soup as it is extremely fragrant and smooth-tasting. You may also request to top up your soup when you have finished it.

As you can see, the pig kidney is still semi-cooked. Hence, my advise if you were to eat this is to leave it in the hot soup for awhile or eat it last.

You have the option to have your bowl of white rice drizzled with their specially-made sauce which is really yummy and flavourful.

If you want to order some light side-dishes, you could order their peanuts or beancurd skin as they taste really wholesome and appetising.
