Hello Everyone,
two weeks ago, Baby and I embarked on our keep-fit exercise regime and we actually blogged about our experience at the Sengkang Swimming Complex. So what is this keep-fit exercise regime all about? Well, as Baby and I want to lead a healthy lifestyle and shed some weight, we decided to take part/participate in a sports-related activity once every two weeks on a weekend.

So for this week, we actually planned a hiking trip from MacRitchie Reservoir Park to the HSBC Tree Top Walk! This is going to be one long blog entry so we hope you would read the entire entry and enjoy the wonderful photos that we have taken. Truly, this was one experience that we will never forget because we have had the opportunity to see the more rustic side of Singapore!

If you are planning to do a hike like ours, here’s some items that you might want to prepare:-

Clothings:

Dress as light and comfortable as you can. Baby and I wore a dri-fit light coloured shirt and shorts! As for footwear, sports shoes/combat boots is highly recommended!

Things to Pack:

A 1.5L water bottle filled with water, a basic first aid kit [containing antiseptic cream, bandages, and plasters], insect repellent, a camera, and a maglite torch light [optional].

For our hike, we actually chose Route 3 [its 10.3 KM long and took us about 3 hours to complete] because we wanted a trail that is challenging! Click here <– for a map of the MacRitchie Trails

Photos of our pre-hike to the starting point of our trail!

Here’s something to note! If you are planning to go on this hike, I highly recommend that you don’t attempt this alone [although you do see many people doing so] because the stretch is long and secluded [remember the case where a lady jogger was raped and killed?]. So yes, I would suggest that you attempt this hike with a few friends. Also, I would suggest that you bring along a maglite torch for defensive reasons. In the event that you don’t have any weapon on hand, you could use the stones and bricks you find along the way as weapons too! [though I hope that nothing nasty would happen to any of you who are going for this hike]

I have to mention this, I actually thought the way up to the HSBC Tree Top Walk was going to be a breeze but it proved me otherwise. The road up was extremely steep and long! So, it took us quite a while to go all the way up. Look at my fat butt here trying to conquer this seemingly long and never-ending steep road!

From MacRitchie Hiking 240312

Stony path once again! [hence the reason why we say it is highly recommended that you wear sports shoes/combat boots to prevent any foot/ankle injuries]. Also, we came across a family of 3 with a baby stroller asking for directions to the HSBC Tree Top Walk! Like ehhh… shouldn’t they have known that it’s going to be a dirt trail and not a road trail? Bringing a baby stroller is DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED!

From MacRitchie Hiking 240312

Oh, and Baby spotted this particular golf ball along the trail. Seriously, the trail is very close to the Singapore Island Country Club where there are golfers doing their golfing, so we are really concerned that golf balls might just come our way. So, do be careful and be wary of your surroundings! Not just that, I was walking very close to a huge monitor lizard without realising it but thankfully, Baby spotted it and shouted at me to avoid it.

Having completed the entire trail of 10.3KM in about 3 hours, it was time for us to really chill and take a break! The MacRitchie Reservoir Park has a cafe known as the Mushroom and though their prices are slightly on the high side, the portions are extremely huge too!

Chilling with a can of 100 Plus!

From MacRitchie Hiking 240312

We ordered a bowl of mushroom soup for $3.90 but it was quite worth it because of its huge portion!

From MacRitchie Hiking 240312

Conclusion for the day:

Well, Baby and I really enjoyed ourselves during this hike because not only could we keep fit, but we could also enjoy the beautiful natural sceneries of Singapore that are not commonly seen. Although we have heard of many people whom have went on the HSBC Tree Top Walk, we also know that not many people would want to go on a hike of 10.3 KM like ours but rather choosing the shorter route. By completing this long arduous hike, it gave us a sense of motivation, satisfaction, and accomplishment because we completed the 10.3 KM hike together and have taken away with us amazing photos of Mother Nature! And truly, sometimes we Singaporeans are just so busy with our work that we don’t stop and take a look around at what nature has to offer us but really, why not just take some time off and let nature reinvigorate your inner being?!

In case you are wondering, the photos as shown here are all taken with the iPhone 4GS camera. So, don’t belittle what the iPhone 4GS camera can do.

About MacRitchie Reservoir Park

MacRitchie Reservoir Park serves as a gateway to the nature reserves. It has become a popular spot for nature lovers and exercise enthusiasts. It is also a great place for morning and evening walks or strolls along the water’s edge.

MacRitchie Reservoir Park now boasts a green two-storey carpark with 300 parking lots. Its upper deck collects rainwater and channels them into a bioswale. Bioswales are landscape elements designed to remove silt and pollution from surface runoff water.

The reservoir also has an amenities centre equipped with toilets, showering facilities, lockers, drinking fountains and a food kiosk. Our reservoir deck is an ideal venue for warm-ups and for holding events like cross-country. Being a popular venue for water activities, it also has a newly improved pontoon for kayakers and our upgraded canoe shed will be ready by mid-2011.

MacRitchie Reservoir is one of the four reservoirs that bound the nature reserves. Other reservoirs include Lower Peirce Reservoir, Upper Peirce Reservoir and Upper Seletar Reservoir. Serving as water catchment areas, forests surrounding these reservoirs are protected from agriculture activities in order to ensure the quality of water.

About HSBC Tree Top Walk

The HSBC TreeTop Walk (HSBC TTW) is the highlight of several long hiking routes in MacRitchie that brings you through different stages of mature secondary forest. The first of its kind in Singapore and in the region, this free-standing suspension bridge connects the two highest points (Bukit Peirce and Bukit Kalang) in MacRitchie and offers a bird’s eye view of the community of plants and animals that live in the forest canopy. The total length of the walkway is about 250m and its height from the forest floor varies, with the highest point at 25m.

Besides providing another avenue for nature recreation for Singaporeans, the HSBC TTW also play an important role in forest canopy research, an area many researchers were not able to get into because of lack of access. This bridge will help to facilitate surveys and plant identification work and further our understanding of how forest ecosystems work.

The HSBC TTW was officially launched by the Minister of State for Finance and Transport, Mrs. Lim Hwee Hua, on 5th November 2004. The event also marked the start of another collaboration between NParks and HSBC that will reap benefits for the community. As part of efforts to enhance the HSBC TreeTop Walk as an outdoor classroom to promote an interest and appreciation of the natural sciences, HSBC and NParks established the HSBC-GCF (Garden City Fund) TreeTop Walk Fund to support a host of programmes and activities for conservation, education and outreach. This includes programmes for school children, workshops for teachers, training of nature guides as well as the production of educational materials.

The distance to the entrance of the TreeTop Walk is approximately 4.5 km (1.5 – 2 hour walk) from the MacRitchie Reservoir Park and 2.5 km (45 mins – 1 hr walk) from the carpark at Venus Drive. Therefore, a round trip including the TreeTop Walk is about 7 to 10 km (3-5 hours depending on your walking pace)

Hello Everyone,
Baby and I recently dined at Nando’s Chicken @ Plaza Singapura and for those of you whom haven’t tried Nando’s yet. You just gotta try it!

The Service Experience:

As there was no queue, we were promptly attended by the service staffs and upon entering, the service staffs greeted us “Welcome” in another language [probably in African since Nando’s originated there]. However, the greeting weren’t as enthusiastic and welcoming like the experience which we’ve had at Manhattan Fish Market @ Plaza Singapura. They probably tried to copy their concept but it just didn’t worked out. Having been shown to our seats, the service staff presented the menu to us and the rest was standard operating procedure [S.O.P].

I kinda like their condiments set and the way they present it. Not only that, it kept us occupied while waiting for our meals to be served as we logged onto their Facebook Page to see what they have on offer.

From Nandos Chicken @ Plaza Singapura

By the way, they don’t only serve chicken.

From Nandos Chicken @ Plaza Singapura

Baby’s 1st time dining at Nando’s and she just can’t wait to order and try their food!

From Nandos Chicken @ Plaza Singapura
From Nandos Chicken @ Plaza Singapura

As you can see from the above picture, Nando’s recently launched their new dish, the Cataplana. Well, we have yet to try that but we perhaps might give it a shot the next time we dine at Nando’s.

The Food Experience:

Baby ordered the Espetada [which is something like a chicken kebab] with Colesaw and Mediterranean Rice as sides while I ordered the 1/4 Chicken with Peri Chips and Peri Corn as sides. While the concept is quite similar to Aston’s where you can choose the sides from a variety of choices, what is really special about Nando’s is that you get to choose the level of spicy-ness you want the sauce to be on your Chicken. Baby chose the Mild Peri-Peri flavour [which the service staff recommended for beginners] while I went for the Hot Peri-Peri flavour.

Baby’s order. The Mediterranean Rice was very flavourful and we both liked it alot! It is really different and unique in taste. The colesaw was also pretty appetising and the chicken kebab was grilled to perfection. The meal portion size is also perfect for a lady [not for guys though, since we’re big eaters].

From Nandos Chicken @ Plaza Singapura

My order. I like their Peri Chips and Peri Corn because the seasoning powder just made it really tasty and flavourful. However, I personally felt that the Peri Corn was quite small in portion and the corn wasn’t sweet enough. The 1/4 Chicken was grilled to perfection and coupled with the Hot Peri-Peri sauce, it just made everything tasted so heavenly with its aroma. And just in case you’re wondering if the Peri-Peri sauce is that spicy, well it’s not! You just need a while to get used to the spicy-ness and thereafter, you will find yourself pouring more sauce.

From Nandos Chicken @ Plaza Singapura

The Verdict:

Yes, we strongly recommend you to try Nando’s Chicken! Though the service could use some improvement, the quality of the food kinda made up for the shortfall in service. If the service could have been better, I think it would have been quite an extremely positive dining experience. Oh, but one thing is this, the pricing is slightly above-average for the average diner [meaning to say, its quite pricey as compared to Aston’s or even Manhattan Fish Market]. So I guess while we might dine at Nando’s again, we would probably only do so like once every 3 months.

Some Additional Information:

I personally liked the way Nando’s markets itself. In fact, I found their Facebook Page to be rather interactive and even their website is quite cool as well! From time to time, they even have contests and exciting promotions going on so do check out the links and see what they have to offer to you.

Hello Everyone,
Baby and I were passing by along Upper Paya Lebar Road in search of a good place for dinner and we chanced upon this stall known as the Old Street Bah Kut Teh. Since the store had an “atas” look  and they have received some culinary awards, we decided to give it a try.

As we were rushing for time, we didn’t ordered much. But this one dining experience was a complete mistake and it would be our first and last. We’ll explain why.

One look at the menu and the pricing was quite a turn-off already.

From Old Street Bah Kut Teh

The most important that that I want to comment about this store is the lousy service provided by the service staffs. In most of the Bah Kut Teh stores that we have been to, most of the service staffs would attend to us, take our orders, and then serve our food when it was ready. Apparently, at this particular Bah Kut Teh store, it is more of a self-service concept where you have to go to the cashier, place your order, and wait for the service staff to serve your food. While I do understand the concept of self-service, the great disappointment was seeing other guests whom had questions about the dish and when they raise their hands to seek the attention of the service staffs to ask them some questions about the dish, the service staffs promptly assumed that the guests wanted to place an order and gestured them to the cashier without even listening and thinking. We observed that it was not just one guest whom were treated this way but in fact, most of the guests were treated like that. Surly, this wasn’t a really polite way of attending to guests.

After placing our orders with the cashier, we were given this number tag so that the service staff could bring our food to our table when its ready.

From Old Street Bah Kut Teh

We ordered the pork ribs soup and seriously, the soup wasn’t that great. It lacked the flavour of the traditional Bak Kut Teh and tasted more like plain water. As always, I expect soups to be served piping hot but well, this store failed in meeting that expectation I have for soups. The meat was very tough and even when we asked to have our soup to be refilled, it was still not piping hot.

From Old Street Bah Kut Teh

And we also ordered the pig’s kidney soup. Soup wasn’t served piping hot and the kidney wasn’t cooked properly.

From Old Street Bah Kut Teh

While we didn’t get to taste the rest of their dishes and wouldn’t be able to comment much about the food, this one dining experience was so bad that we would not patronise them again. Simply put, the service wasn’t that great and the quality of the food didn’t quite meet our expectations. This would in fact be our first and last visit to Old Street Bah Kut Teh unless they could lower their price, improve on their service, and serve better quality food. We have learnt not to judge books by their cover. Just because the store has an “atas” look and won some culinary awards, it doesn’t mean that their food and service is great. For now, I guess we will continue to stick to our usual Bah Kut Teh store that we always frequent.

Hello Everyone,
I am very sure many of you would have heard of Pastamania and would also probably have dined there at least once.

For Baby and I, we have dined at Pastamania [Cineleisure/Serangoon Nex] a couple of times and we have always enjoyed the pastas that are served there. Well in any case, if you are popping by the North East and you are craving for some wholesome pastas, you might want to consider dropping by Pastamania @ Serangoon NeX Shopping Mall! [well, not many people know that Serangoon NeX Shopping mall has a Pastamania Outlet]

And if you’re the sort of person whom prefers to stay home and bum around, Pastamania also has a delivery service! Well, you could either call them at 6275 7555 or you could use your Android/iPhone to download the Pastamania App and order your favourite pasta as well.

For an extensive menu of Pastamania, you could find it here <– and for any promotions that Pastamania is having, you can click here <–

To be very honest, I have always liked Pastamania because not only are the pastas of high quality, but their prices are extremely reasonable. The portion of the pasta is just nice and the culinary skills of the kitchen staff are superb!

In any case, if you are planning to have a birthday celebration or function, you could also make a reservation for their private dining area that is available at Serangoon Nex Shopping Mall. The private dining area can sit up to a maximum of 50 people. Also, I particularly like the interior decorations and furnishings of the Pastamania outlet at Serangoon NeX Shopping Mall. It’s quite unique and if you’re planning to bring your date there for pastas, they have tables by the window where you can look out and admire the landscape of Serangoon HDB Flats [not much of a fantastic view if you ask me, but well, better than nothing.]

Here are just some photos of our last visit to Pastamania!

Hello Everyone,
Baby and I have personally dined at The Paramount Restaurant which was situated at The Paramount Hotel on two occasions. On the first occasion, we had a taste of their sumptuous classic buffet and on the second occasion, we had a taste of their exquisite Dim Sums. Well, sad to say, for those of you whom have never been to The Paramount Restaurant, you probably would not have the opportunity to dine there again because its last day of business was just a few days ago, on 29 February 2012 to be exact.

About The Paramount Restaurant
The Paramount Restaurant was part of the Tunglok Group and it’s interior design and structure had a romanised feel to it, thus making it a perfect/ideal venue for holding functions, especially wedding banquets. Throughout its 20 years of service, many happy memories were made, from weddings and anniversaries to birthdays and gatherings. In fact, many of the restaurant’s guests were regular diners and they are truly fond of the place. Personally, I shared similar sentiments because when I dined there last week, I could see that the service staffs whom had been working there for many years (waiters/captains) were pretty sad that this place which they call their second home would be torn down. I could just see it from their eyes and faces as they do their best to serve their guests for the last time at The Paramount Restaurant, the best they know how. Today, if employers can make employees feel so attached and loyal to their companies/organisations, I am very sure that whatever business they are doing would be highly successful because the employees will have a sense of ownership and give in their 101% efforts.

Looking from the photos, I am very sure you could tell that the food are quite delicious and the best part is, it didn’t cost a bomb/hole in the pocket. However, as I have mentioned, sadly, this place will be greatly missed for not just its awesome food, but also for the fond memories regular diners have had there as well! I wonder, how many of such restaurants in Singapore can give guests such a sense of nostalgic moment? Hmm…

Hello Everyone,
Baby and I recently dined at the Manhattan Fish Market that is situated at Plaza Singapura and I must say, we have had one of the most amazing and interesting dining experiences there. So, when I arrived there early just so that I could queue up and grab seats for us, there was already quite a long queue forming all the way to Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe. While waiting for our turn, Aladdin [one of the service staff whom was at the queue stand] distributed menus to those of us whom were in the queue and approached us to enquire how many of us were going to dine. Ok, a side note here, this is one practise that most restaurants do when they face long queues of guests waiting to dine at their restaurants and its a norm just so they could keep guests entertained while waiting. But here’s the amazing part, Aladdin took out a tray of drinks in mini plastic cups and served it to everyone whom were waiting in the queue! Now that’s something really extraordinary. Having worked at many F&B outlets in the past and having dined at so many restaurants, Manhattan Fish Market at Plaza Singapura is one of the rare few that treats their guests to a cup of drink while waiting in line! Kudos to them for the excellent initiative!

So when it was our turn and we entered the restaurant, everyone of the service staff [ok they call themselves, sea-cret agent!] greeted us with a big “Welcome!” in unison. We were so blown away by the warm welcome that Baby said that it was indeed a rare sight for a restaurant to be so welcoming and happening! One of the sea-cret agent [I think her name was Myein or Wyein] presented us with the menu and because Baby had a coupon that has this one-for-one promotion, we decided to give it a go and ordered a set of Fish and Chips which comes with a Clam Chowder Soup and any one drink in the beverage menu. Just to add, the sea-cret agent was very knowledgeable with the food and beverage served in Manhattan Fish Market as well.

From Manhattan Fish Market 2012

Our beverages were served rather promptly. I had the Citrus Mint while Baby had the Cala Cala, and I have to say this, their beverages are not just top in quality but also top  in terms of presentation!

The Cala Cala! [Baby said it was neither very sour nor very sweet. In fact, it was rather balanced and she liked it alot.]

The Citrus Mint! [Baby found this drink to be quite leafy in taste but I kinda like it because I have always been chewing on mint leafs since I was 12.]

From Manhattan Fish Market 2012

Here’s the flavourful Clam Chowder which I really love. Its not very creamy in taste and its filled with generous portions of superb tasting seafood. Not only that, the texture of the soup was just nice and the soup was served piping hot, the way I like my soups to be!

While waiting for our main course, Baby and I were entertaining ourselves by taking photos of one another.

Our entire dinner for the day!

Seriously, the portion was so humongous that even Baby and I could not finish the entire plate of Fish and Chips. In fact, if you are deciding to dine there, we would recommend you to share one plate of Fish and Chips with another person because its really alot even for an above-average eater like me. It can also save you money too!

Just in case you want to know where the restaurant is exactly located, its on the 6th level of Plaza Singapura and they are opened till 10pm daily. For reservations or menu enquiries, you can call their number at 6835 9300.

Hello Everyone,
I am sure many of you are very familiar with Astons and their awesome tasting char-grilled chicken! Well, Baby and I have been to Astons to dine many a times but here’s what we found out when we dined at not once but quite a number of times at Astons Specialties [The Cathay Building/Suntec City Mall/Changi Airport/Illuma], once at Astons Prime [Centrepoint Orchard], and many a times at Astons Express [Ang Mo Kio Central]!

What’s the difference you may ask. Well, the food quality standards across the three categories of Astons are actually worlds apart.

Now, let’s start with the highest end of Astons, the Astons Prime, situated at Centrepoint Orchard. Baby and I have been there only once and we reckoned that we won’t want to dine there again because the food quality does not meet up to our expectations. You know, people always say this, “You pay peanuts, you get monkeys!” But at Astons Prime, its altogether a different ball game. Here, you pay a slightly higher price for their signature char-grilled chicken and all you get is chao-tah [burnt] chicken with mushroom soup that taste more like flour than mushrooms. The only pro that I could think about dining here is that you can make reservations to dine instead of queuing up like you’re queuing up for some Hello Kitty freebies.

Next, we have the mid-range of Astons, the Astons Specialties. Well, Baby and I have been to Astons Specialties many a times and all I can say is this, the queue at almost all of the Astons Specialties we’ve been to is just entirely crazy! I still recall a time when Baby and I queued up for more than an hour just so we could dine at Astons! While I have to agree that the quality of food served at Astons Specialties is slightly better than Aston’s Prime, the long queue just puts us off. [unless we are really desperate to satisfy our cravings for the cheap char-grilled chicken] Even so, the quality of food served at Astons Specialties cannot beat the quality of food served at Astons Express.

Ok, now why do we want to advocate dining at Astons Express instead of Astons Specialties or Astons Prime? Well, first and foremost, we felt that Astons Express quality standards of food served is in fact much better than those served at Astons Specialties or Astons Prime. Ok, so how is the quality of food different?

Well, usually, Baby and I would order our standard char-grilled chicken with sides of mashed potato and corn on the cob/french fries and colesaw, and a bowl of mushroom soup that comes with garlic toast. Let me start with the standard char-grilled chicken. While it is common sense not to serve chao-tah [burnt] chicken to guests, it is also common sense that the gravy/sauce for the chicken should neither be too runny nor starchy. The same goes for the mashed potato and the mushroom soup as well! In most cases when we dined at Astons Specialties, we noticed that the kitchen staff just do not know how to balance the texture of the sauce/soup! Sometimes when we dined at Aston’s Specialties, we were served mushroom soup that tasted like flour and at other times, we were served soup that tasted like plain tap water. There is just no consistency at Astons, unlike at MacDonalds’, a Chicken McSpicy at Changi Airport tastes the same as a Chicken McSpicy at Jurong Point!

And the other advantage of dining at Astons Express? You don’t have to queue up for more than 15 minutes. In fact, you  just need to have your order taken and then feel free to sit at any corner of the coffeeshop a.k.a kopitiam while waiting for your food to be served.

Do not be mistaken that I’m here to slam Astons but rather, I would really hope that Astons could really improve on their food quality standards and consistencies in cooking. Afterall, Baby and I are die-hard fans of Astons Signature Char-Grilled Chicken.

Hello Everyone,
I was really privileged and honoured to be invited by OMY.SG and Grand Mercure Roxy Singapore Hotel to an evening cocktail cum dinner party and in this blog entry, allow me to share with you the amazing experience that I have had there.

Alright, all of us were supposed to be meeting on the 4th level of the hotel at 1830 but I arrived only at 1845 due to a really bad traffic jam. Nonetheless, I noticed that the hotel had undergone major changes since the last time I’ve been here many years back.

So when I arrived, we took a tour of their newly renovated deluxe rooms and it was quite interesting because the rooms at that level now has a backdoor access to the swimming pool and you can now see through the shower room from the bed.

And then we took a tour around the hotel to see what facilities the hotel has.

So, they have a gym here!

And a rather contemporary bar! I really liked the ambience of the bar. In fact, it’s really a nice place to just sit down at the bar, have a drink or two, and just let your mind relax.

The cocktail segment was held by the poolside alfresco style and I managed to grab a few bites of the tasty canapes that were served.

Guess what I had for cocktail? Well, I had a triple sec mixed with blue curacao!

And after the cocktail, we were all ushered to their very own Jiawei Chinese Restaurant and I must say this, it has been perhaps one of the best dining experiences I’ve had so far! The service staff were extremely polite and courteous and most of them have been working there for many years already!

If you are looking for a place to have high-quality excellent tasting Chinese food at a rather classy Chinese restaurant for a group of people, this is one place you must consider. They even have a private dining area that is available for guests dining in groups.

4th Course of the Night- Prawns in Spiced Pumpkin Sauce

I liked how this dish was presented and served. In fact, here you can see a myriad of colours and while I initially thought that the gravy was curry, it turned out to be pumpkin sauce that interestingly has a bit of a curry taste to it.

5th Course of the Night- Steamed Toufu

This dish is also a classic favourite of mine! In fact, I really enjoyed eating the Toufu that as I’m typing this, I can still recall the soft texture of the Toufu that kinda melts into the mouth, combined with the great tasting sauce. I will definitely want to eat this again because the Toufu is very different from those I ate at other F&B outlets so far. And well, the Toufu is specially handmade by the Chef himself!

6th Course of the Night- Signature Laksa

The laksa was awesome because the gravy was not very oily and the ingredients were extremely fresh! It sort of have a Peranakan taste to it if you ask me.

7th Course of the Night- Signature Durian Paste and Durian Cake

This was a really sweet ending indeed and I really loved their Signature Durian Paste! I bet my mum would really love it too if she gets to taste this! The Durian Paste is something that you must try because the taste just leaves you feeling really high.

Hello Everyone,
it was supposed to be a normal routine day of having dinner at some normal food and beverage establishment until Baby called and informed me that Burger King (BK) was having a One-for-One promotion! So without any further hesitation, we decided to dine at Burger King @ Serangoon NeX. When I arrived there, the queue was so long that it stretched all the way to the nearby Bubble Tea Shop! So like any typical Kiasu Singaporean, I queued up to buy the set meal and while waiting, I was just scrutinising the outlet and to my pleasant surprise, the interior decoration of BK has improved quite a fair bit, especially for a fast-food restaurant! The designs were very contemporary and chic, and the colour scheme just matches their branding! Not only that, they now have a see-through glass panel where you can observe how your burgers are being prepared, very much like Subway’s concept. Well, there are pros and cons to this but I guess it gave BK a fresh look!

Well, I’m not going to spoil the surprise as to how the new BK concept looks like but if you want to find out, do head down to the BK @ Serangoon NeX because I’m not sure if the other BK outlets have revamp themselves yet.

So, anyway, the One-for-One promotion that BK was having is known as “The BK Way of Chicken” and just for yesterday, there were no fish or beef items served. They only served chicken and for that, they gave away one chicken burger set meal for another chicken burger set meal! Though its an old marketing method used to increase sales and generate publicity, I felt that it has served BK’s purpose.

We ordered a Mushroom Swiss Tendergrill Chicken Set Meal [with Passionfruit Tea, and French Fries], a Spicy Tendergrill Chicken Panini Set Meat [with Coke, and Onion Rings], a Box of 6 Chicken Tenders, and a Taro Turnover.

So here’s what we ordered for our dinner!

As usual, I love BK’s Mushroom Swiss Tendergrill Chicken Burger because the mushrooms and its sauce are so flavourful and the chicken is grilled to perfection. The Spicy Panini Tendergrill Chicken is also great tasting as well and I kinda prefer it than MacDonald’s McSpicy because BK’s serving portion is larger and the spice used is more aromatic than Mac’s

From BK Way of Chicken 2012

The Chicken Tenders is BK’s new product and well, it just wasn’t up to my expectation as I felt that Mac’s nuggets were more better-tasting. BK’s Chicken Tenders tasted quite plain and was quite dry when I chewed it. Moreover, the Chicken Tenders is quite rough for the mouth and because of its extremely dry texture, it just didn’t make the cut! Some improvements needed please.

From BK Way of Chicken 2012

So yups, for those of you who managed to buy the 1-for-1 promotion, congratulations! When I finished dining at BK and left the restaurant, the queue was still there and it stretched way further than the Bubble Tea Shop. =X
