I woke up feeling really sore and achy in my back and chest but I still decided to head down for service as I gave my word that I would be there.
When I entered the main hall at 0955 and found a seat at the Echo Arena, praise and worship was about to begin. However, I totally had no idea that Dr. A R Bernard was going to be preaching this service and I’m glad he did because the sermon is very relevant for my life right now.

For this service, Dr. A R Bernard taught about Spiritual Growth, what Ages in the Bible really meant and how God lines up specific people around us so that we are able to be positioned in a way that God can bless us in due season. I will only share a little bit about what Dr. A R Bernard has shared on today’s blog entry. If you would like to find out more, you can purchase the entire Sermon from Sermon Vault <– here

Definition of Spiritual Growth

Spiritual Growth is increasing your capacity to know and to experience God by the consistency of studying His Word.

We experience God through worship and prayer and we also experience Him by discerning what He is doing in our world.

The Bible encourages us to grow up because God can only entrusts us with His plans and purposes only if we mature and grow up. God will only give to us what we have the capacity for.

Ages ( or aion in greek) means Periods

When the Bible says it’s the end of the world, the Bible meant the end of a specific time, not the destruction of the planet or world. In fact, the return of Jesus Christ is not the end of the world but the beginning of another period/time. An age is a period of time in history marked by notable events and particular characteristics.

Seasons ( or kairos in greek)

Season is not just a time but a favourable period of time. A season is a favourable time appropriate for a particular person, purpose, or situation. The Bible tells us not to be weary in well doing because in due season, we will reap if we faint not.

These were just some of the key points that I noted down during Dr. A R Bernard’s preaching. After service, most of us headed down to Jurong West Church so that we could witness Chao Han and Kenny’s water baptism. Witnessing their baptism reminded me of my own baptism way back in 2006.  I was really happy that both Chao Han and Kenny took the step of faith and decided to go for water baptism as it truly signifies the beginning of a wonderful journey with Christ. I pray that God will continue to open up the windows of heavens and pour down such great blessings into both Chao Hao and Kenny’s lives that there would not be room enough to contain it!

The One and Only Picture I Have

IMG_0629

Pardon me for the blurry image as it was taken with the Iphone Camera. Lesson learnt: Must start investing in better cameras. Directors of Canon/Nikon , if you happen to be visiting my blog, would you like to sponsor me? =P

Hello Everyone,
I have recently been feeling unwell because of my upper back, chest, and left wrist. As a result, I found myself having to go and visit clinics and hospitals more often. Thankfully, my medical expenses are covered by SAF but still, I have yet to fully recover.

What Exactly is Wrong with Me?

As most of you would have known, during the middle of February, I tore my left wrist’s ligament and triangular fibrocartillage during training at Officer Cadet School. As a result, I experienced extreme pain in my left wrist and wasn’t able to carry heavy loads and thus I was put on a splint for more than 6 weeks. It was only in June when the Specialist decided to send me for an MRI scan to exactly find out why I was still in pain. From February to June, 4 months is extremely damn long to find out what was exactly wrong with my wrist! The MRI results came out in July and it wasn’t favourable. Just early this month (August), I was offered the option to undergo a day surgery and was advised that it would be a 70% chance of recovery and a 30% chance that my condition would remain the same or worsen. I consulted my parents, loved ones and even friends and have come to decided that I WOULD NOT be undergoing the day surgery.

I know that many of my friends would encourage me to go for the day surgery so that I could recover even though its a 70% chance. But also, I have consulted with some of my friends who experienced the same medical conditions as me and whom have went for the operation but didn’t got well. In fact, 2 of them told me that their condition have gotten worst and were no better even after the surgery, and are undergoing physiotherapy now. My next specialist medical review would take place on the 1st September 2011 (Teacher’s Day) and I will find out more about the consequences of me not undergoing the day surgery in details.

Recently, in the last 2-3 weeks, I have developed some kind of sharp pain in my chest and upper back and usually, it will be very painful in the morning and the pain will then gradually subside throughout the day. However, in the past few days, the pain in the morning gradually got worst and I was admitted to NUH A&E for observation. I was discharged that very same day and was diagnosed as having musculoskeletal chest pain. The only medicine given to me was Painkillers (which to me is pointless because it doesn’t heal the affected area) and some other medicine for the blood in my stools. Today, the pain got so bad that I could hardly move and twist my upper body. I dragged myself to the train (I was supposed to go for work by the way) and decided to go to SGH A&E to see a doctor. I was put through the same process (screening, registration, consultation, X-ray, ECG) and was given 2 days MC and a referral letter for a bone specialist and physiotherapist to attend to me. For your information, the appointment given to me to see the specialist is 14 September 2011 and that’s a very long time.

As I could not stand the fact that I could not get well and carry on with my usual activities and be healed, I decided to take things in my own stride and go visit Siah Ah Cheok Chinese Sinseh which is situated along Upper Paya Lebar.

My Visits to Siah Ah Cheok Chinese Sinseh

Today wasn’t the first time I visited Siah Ah Cheok Chinese Sinseh. Today was in fact the 3rd time I visited, this time, for my chest and upper back pain. You may be puzzled as to why I didn’t want to visit Siah Ah Cheok right from the start and my reason for that is because SAF doesn’t cover my medical expenses for private doctors and Traditional Chinese Medicine. But now that the pain has gone quite extreme for 2-3 weeks, I decided that health is more important and hence resorted going to Siah Ah Cheok. When I reached, there were 2 people before me and when the clinic opened, it was filled with tons of people already. Thankfully, I was early and I was 2nd in line. And also thankfully again, Dr. Regina Siah attended to me because the 2nd time I went there for my knee problem, a male Sinseh attended to me and the process was extremely painful.

Dr. Siah did some acupuncture and ba guan for me, and after the whole process which took 15-20 minutes, I honestly felt way better and was able to move my upper body. I was then given some ointment for my back and also some Chinese medicine for blood circulation. The whole treatment cost me $50, similar to what I paid for the last 2 times I visited.

Sometime next month after my specialist medical review and when I have sufficient money, I have decided to go visit Siah Ah Cheok again to get my left wrist done up. Hopefully, my body would be made whole as it was in the past and I would be able to do my usual activities again. And oh, the first time I visited Siah Ah Cheok, it was for an ankle injury that I sustained during Basic Military Training at Pulau Tekong. During that time when I had the ankle injury, I couldn’t walk at all. In fact, I walked only with my right foot and dragged my left foot most of the time. Wearing boots made it worst. Thankfully, when I went to Siah Ah Cheok and Dr. Regina Siah attended to me, I got better within 2-3 weeks and was able to carry on with my training in BMT. If not, I guess I would have to recourse for my BMT and wouldn’t even have made it to OCS.

Details of Siah Ah Cheok

Address: 371 Upper Paya Lebar Road, #01-03 Yi Kai Court, Singapore 534969

Telephone Number: 62823467/62883682

Please note that the clinic can get really crowded, so you might want to arrive early and get the queue number.

NB: I strongly recommend this clinic for all your back, chest, ankle, or any musculoskeletal injuries that you might have. However, healing and recovery is up to the individual’s own body and I don’t guarantee that you will get better. If you do get better as a result of my recommendation, do drop me an email so that I can celebrate and rejoice with you.  Do also note that the clinic does not issue any Medical Certificates.

For those of you who are serving your National Service and are more prone to  musculoskeletal injuries, this is an alternative you might want to rely on instead of the usual painkillers given by the doctors.

Hello Everyone,
this blog entry was supposed to be published yesterday but because of some technical errors, I wasn’t able to churn it out on time. My sincere apologies for that.

How I came to know about the Singapore Toys Games Comics Convention?

I was randomly browsing through the events calendar on Suntec City’s webpage and blurted out about this Singapore Toys Games Comics Convention to Baby when we were talking on the phone one evening.

How We Ended Up Being at the Singapore Toys Games Comics Convention?

Baby and I were supposed to start training for our Standard Chartered Half Marathon yesterday at East Coast Park, but after my seminar at Shenton Way, we decided to head down to Suntec City and take a look around. However, when we reached Suntec City, we were pretty excited about the Singapore Toys Games Comics Convention when we saw the event poster and hence decided to purchase the entry ticket that costs us $10 each.

What was Really So Interesting About the Singapore Toys Games Comics Convention?

There were so many interesting things to look at and there were so many toys to shop for, but in this blog entry, I will will only be detailing the highlights of those more significant things/stuffs that we experienced during the event.

1) DragonNest Game Promotion

I first heard about the DragonNest game when I was at work. One of my colleagues introduced me to this game and he was pretty excited about getting everyone in my department to play this game so that we could have something to talk about during work. Honestly, I don’t exactly have much time for games because I have tons of work to do (not NS work) but rather, some other work like blogging, spending time with family members and loved ones, and taking care of my pets (my Triops and Betta Fishes). However, for those of you who have loads of spare time for gaming, you ought to try this new game by Shanda Games. Click DragonNest <– for the official game website and you can download the game from there.

Also, if you dread downloading the game directly from the website, you can borrow the DVD from me too (I purchased it at a price of $1 at their booth), just drop me an email or a sms.

2) Tamiya Racing Competition

Baby knows that I have a liking for Tamiya cars because I have been searching for them high and low at all the major toy’s store (including Toys’ R Us) but they were nowhere to be found. Alas! I have found them right here at the Singapore Toys Games Comics Convention and boy, was I really excited! They were even having a Tamiya Cars Racing Competition and we saw a lot of passionate participators from all over the world! Now, I finally got my own Tamiya Car Kit thanks to Baby and she even got one for herself too! Check out some photos below:

3) 501st Legion, Singapore Garrison

Ok, the final highlight of which I would like to touch on is the 501st Legion, Singapore Garrison. Do visit their website <– here!

What is the 501st Legion?

Since 1997, the costuming organization known as the 501st Legion has spread the magic of the Star Wars genre worldwide through its authentic-looking costumes, and has become the leading force in fan-based charity events. The 501st, also known as “Vader’s Fist,” is truly dedicated to brightening the lives of those less-fortunate.

The Singapore Outpost was started in 2002 by Timothy Lucas Tan. By 2008, they received Garrison status when our numbers had grown well beyond 25.

If I had not visited Singapore Toys Games Comics Convention 2011 with Baby, I would not even have come to know that such an organisation exists. And honestly, I wouldn’t even mind joining them to do charity events by wearing a Star Wars Villain Costume because serving the community is really meaningful. During the event, we joined in the Droid Hunt where Baby and I had to avoid being seek out by the Imperial Droids. And in such a huge event like this, we thought it would be rather difficult for them to find us but guess what, we were caught by them! It was indeed so much fun and we even managed to take some pictures with them.

Kudos to the volunteers as they really worked hard and were very accommodating towards everyone.

The Singapore Toys Games Comics Convention 2011 have definitely brought wonderful memories for Baby and I. It was fun, entertaining, and really exciting. More of such events should be held in Singapore and I believe that there will be more to come as Singaporeans are becoming to be more engaged in comics, manga, arts, and collectibles! Stay tuned for more interesting posts soon! =)

Hello Everyone,
you must be thinking, what exactly is so special about September 2012?

Well, the answer to that is, I’m going to ORD on 14 September 2012.

Ok, that does not sound really interesting but anyway, from now till then, I have been thinking about many things such as what I should exactly pursue.

Questions, Questions, and more Questions…!

1) Should I further my studies?

You know, there are probably millions of graduates all over the world competing with one another for jobs in the government and private sectors and it seems that the paper chase is probably the key to securing a high paying job. How does an organisation then determines who they should hire? I mean after all, a person with a degree but whom has a lousy working attitude isn’t going to do the organisation any good right? I personally don’t wish to waste any more time studying. So, I guess furthering my studies is not my priority for now.

2) What Career Paths Should I Pursue?

Ok. I have to admit that this has been quite a dilemma for me. I have been offered many opportunities for interviews and positions in the Banking & Finance Industry, Hospitality & Tourism Industry, the MICE Industry, and the Business Administration Sector. While all the positions offered to me were very attractive in terms of remuneration and benefits, I can’t seem to decide on which one I would definitely enjoy doing. After all, I want a career which I am passionate about. The downsides to this path are that I have to answer to a superior and my earnings are pretty much capped at a certain rate.

3) The Entrepreneurial Spirit

Baby and I have been thinking of starting up our own business for sometime now. However, I have to admit that I’m pretty concerned about the Capital and how I’m going to come up with them. Moreover, there were other concerns but honestly, I wonder if $50,000 would be enough for a small start-up? I can’t exactly reveal the detailed plans for now but then again, I wonder if this should be the path I take. The upsides to this path are that I can be my own boss and my earnings are not capped. I remembered my dad saying that starting up one’s own business is better than working for somebody because the satisfaction you get from the result of your very own hardwork is much more fulfilling.

Conclusion?

I really have no definite answer for now. With so many obstacles in the way, I can’t seem to decide on a definite choice. If you have any inputs/word of encouragement/word of discouragement/advise/opinions to share, please feel free to share them with me by commenting on this entry. Like Baby always tell me that I am fickle-minded, I believe I am fickle-minded! Gosh! =X

Hello Everyone,
this post is actually quite outdated considering the fact that I am only blogging about it now but for memories sake, I am still going to pen down an entry.

130811 (Saturday)

Baby and I planned to do some kite flying that day at Punggol as we were going to have dinner at her sister’s place with her mum. Prior to that, it was raining so heavily and we thought of what other places we could go to spend our day and make it worthwhile. However, thank God the rain stopped and we headed down to Punggol Plaza to buy our very first kite. When we reached the store, we saw so many colourful and attractive kites that we didn’t exactly know which to choose. Despite having flew kites before, we were quite rusty and hence asked the Uncle for advise as to which kite we should choose. The Shop Uncle then pointed to a kite shaped like a Ladybird and we went along with it.

You know, when I was a kid, the kite that I flew was made of paper and some wooden sticks. Now, there are so many choices available and they are much more easier to handle than the traditional ones. Also, in the past, Marina South used to be the hottest place to fly kites. If you were to ask me where I would fly kites now, I would say either Marina Barrage or Punggol  because the winds there are very favourable for flying kites.

We got back to Baby’s Sister’s place and while Baby was preparing to thaw the fish for dinner, I played with the other “Baby”, a green lovebird. It was really cute. I was initially afraid of handling the bird as I heard from Baby that the bird would bite. But eventually, I overcame that fear and even brought it out of the cage to feed and play with it. After thawing the fish, Baby and I headed downstairs to fly our kite in the open field. There were other people who flew kites that day too. And boy, it was so exciting! When it was time for dinner, we packed up and went back, ending the day happy and joyful.

I woke up pretty late today and didn’t have the intention to go for the 22nd Anniversary Celebration in Church. So, Baby and I were supposed to be meeting up in the afternoon to head down to Suntec City but I was caught by surprise instead. When I called Baby, she was already journeying her way back to Serangoon from Suntec City. When I met her, I saw her with an electric guitar which she bought specially for me. Not only that, she also bought a Logitech Ultimate Ears Earphones for me. I was really touched and speechless because these were really expensive stuffs and I didn’t expected her to buy them as we were both saving up. What’s more, the guitar is really heavy and she lugged it all the way from Suntec to Serangoon! Gosh! After meeting, we went to the NTUC Fairprice near Baby’s place and bought some stuffs to cook for lunch. We caught the movie, “Priest”, had our lunch, and journeyed back to my place for dinner. All in all, this was how we spent our weekends together and we are really happy and satisfied!

It’s Sunday and today is a really special day because Baby and I are celebrating our 7 months of being together. Being a new blog that is supported and encouraged by my girlfriend, I dedicate this entire entry to her.
How Did Jacqueline and I Got Together and When was That?

I first knew Jacqueline through a friend of mine. My first meet up with Jacqueline was with Aldaias when we decided to go for supper at Chomp Chomp. After that, we met up a second time right before I left for my Genting cum Kuala Lumpur trip with Aldaias. When I returned from my trip, I decided to ask her out on the 14th of January and that was the day we got together.

What Do I Like About Her and What is so Special About Her?

Jacqueline is not like some of the “girlfriends” I know. She is especially meticulous and attentive to details. Because of that, she’s really sweet so let me just give a few examples:

  • She always bring a spare jacket whenever we go to the movies because she knows how I would always shiver whenever its super cold in the theatre
  • She will always “dabao” my favourite food (rojak, muah chee, otah, duck rice, Macdonalds’) whenever she visits my place
  • She sacrifices a lot just to get my favourite gadgets on special occasions (just so you know, she got me a Wii Console set, 1 controller, with 4 Games for my birthday!)
  • She is someone who cares a lot for other people and is always giving (she was the one who suggested we make an Easter gift for my Cellgroup members)
  • She loves pets (dogs, cats, birds, fishes- or anything that’s cute and furry, even monkeys)
  • She loves movies, ice-cream, chocolate, “tau huay” (anything that’s nice and yummy!)
  • She is super creative! (my brother’s 21’st birthday almost became a Macdonald’s children birthday party with a twist)
  • She can really click with people unlike me, I’m anti-social!
  • When I was still in OCS, she folded my clothes and helped me with preparing dummy grenades & cylume straws while I complete my assignments

And there’s alot more but I shan’t bore you all.

What Are Our Usual Activities?

People say that there isn’t much things to do in Singapore because the place is just so small, but Jacqueline and I don’t really think so. In fact, we often like to laze around at home and catch some variety shows like “Master Chef Australia”, “Hell’s Kitchen”, and “Taiwan News” or perhaps watch some downloaded movies. At times, she will cook for me and boy, everything that she cooks is healthy and yummy! Some other things we enjoy doing together are grocery shopping at midnight and prawning at either Bishan or Pasir Ris till 3-4am in the morning! Life is never boring with her around because it is not what we do that matters, but it is the fact that we enjoy being in each other’s accompany that is important.

Some Things That I Do Which Probably Turns Her Off Is

When I…

  • Spend a lot on unnecessary things
  • Get too obsessed with breeding my Siamese Betta Fishes or Triops
  • Am fickle-minded when making decisions
  • Don’t sleep and spend so much time working on my computer doing my research
  • Play with her hair and disturb her early in the morning

Were There Challenges Faced In Our Relationship and How Did Both of Us Overcome Them?

Yes, and I believe that every relationship has their own set of problems and challenges. I am glad that my girlfriend is really open and honest. Whenever we face a problem, we would call for a timeout and we would talk about it heart to heart, literally. As we both believe that communication is the key to life, we always maintain an open form of communication so that we talk about everything and anything, honestly, and openly. If we can’t find a solution, we would often compromise with one another so that both of us would be in a win-win situation.

How Will The Future Be Like For The Both of Us?

Seriously, even though no one knows the future, one thing that is really clear for the both of us is that we do enjoy each other’s presence and we strive to keep it that way. At the end of the day, we will work hard to stay together and be together for as long as time allows us to.

The Beginnings of A Winsome Life
Hello everyone, I have started out many blogs that are probably not in use anymore. And at times, I wonder if it is really worth the time and money to upkeep and maintain an online web presence. After much consideration and consultation from my CFO a.k.a my girlfriend, we have decided that it would be more cost-savvy for me to use a free platform such as WordPress and then host my own website once I have garnered enough readers.

Some people actually asked me, “Isn’t Facebook good enough?”. And to me, Facebook isn’t really enough. For me to post an article or blog about a topic, I would have to use the Facebook Notes Function which is not exactly practical and lacks functionality. Using WordPress as a platform, I will blog about my daily happenings, the places that I visit, and the things that I do.

Strongly encouraged and supported by my girlfriend, I now present to you, “A Winsome Life- Life is Too Short: Don’t Follow Dreams Chase Them!”
