Just last weekend, Jacqueline and I participated in The Music Run by AIA and I must say, it was quite a disappointing experience for us. Even then, over 9000 race participants ran, danced, and partied to the beat of their favourite songs at the first Singapore edition of the The Music Run by AIA at Sentosa.

The Music Run is one of the fastest growing events of its kind globally; a future focused, interactive, and non-competitive 5KM fun run that puts music at its heart. Offering a unique total music immersion experience amplified by over 150 concert quality speakers lining the entire route, the concept has been making waves in Asia with sell-out crowds in cities like Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Bangkok, Yangon, and now Singapore.

Our Personal Opinions and Thoughts about The Music Run by AIA

To be honest, The Music Run by AIA should just be called “The Music Walk” and The Music Runners, “The Music Walkers”.

Just to set the record straight, I have been to a couple of other fun runs [like the Hello Kitty Run and The Color Run Singapore] which has seen a much larger turnout and they have given me a positive running experience but not so for The Music Run by AIA.

Throughout the entire 5KM [4.85KM to be exact], the “Music Walkers” were all walking in big groups; it is as if they own the whole stretch of running path and what made the run even less enjoyable was the fact that the running path was narrow and heavily congested with human traffic.

While I do appreciate the organisers’ attempt to make The Music Run by AIA interesting and exciting, the run is nothing more than just having some speakers [blasting loud music] placed alongside the running route and I personally felt that there wasn’t much of an immersive experience as claimed by the organisers. In fact, if I may be upfront; it would have been better for me to just plug in my Plantronics BackBeat Go 2 Bluetooth Earphones and run the 5KM route instead.

Notwithstanding this, I sincerely believe that a fun run should be a fun run and definitely not a fun walk. To me, a fun run is one where runners [whether individuals or groups] will enjoy running and the running experience that comes along with it. Sadly, The Music Run by AIA failed in this aspect and I do hope that they will improve on the running experience should they continue next year.

On hindsight, one plus point about The Music Run by AIA is probably the post-race after-party.

Hola Amigos! Universal Studios Singapore debuted today Puss In Boots’ Giant Journey, the world’s first suspended roller coaster themed after the franchise. Guests embarked on a larger-than-life adventure with everyone’s favourite feline, Puss In Boots. The launch of the new ride headlines the theme park’s fifth anniversary celebrations, with more exciting events coming up in the year.

At the Far Far Away themed zone, the Giant’s Castle sits ruined, entwined within a giant beanstalk. The quest, nine lives in the making, begins here as Puss In Boots and Kitty Softpaws go in search of the precious golden eggs in a bid to save San Ricardo’s Orphanage, which has fallen on hard times. Guests will join in the legendary exploits of Puss In Boots as they take off on an anti-gravity swashbuckling flight.

Onboard one of Humpty Alexander Dumpty’s latest flying machines, guests set off from the Giant’s kitchen in search of the legendary golden eggs. The mission runs into trouble when they are spotted by a Tattletale gosling who alerts the Great Terror of their presence in the castle. Once exposed, riders are rocketed through plenty of twists and turns as they are pursued by the Great Terror, who turns out to be one big Mama Goose!

Telling an original tale with 23 animatronics characters, the approximately two-minute ride with a track length of about 0.5KM will provide guests, thrills and excitement with sensations of flight and anti-gravity as they navigate their way to through the castle on their mission. After the adventure ends, Puss In Boots merchandise exclusive to the park are also available for guests to bring home the memories.

Our Personal Opnion & Review of Puss In Boots’ Giant Journey Suspended Roller Coaster

Yesterday marks the day of the grand opening of Puss In Boots’ Giant Journey! First and foremost, we want to take this opportunity to thank the organisers from Resorts World Sentosa for this kind invitation! Cheryl and I are definitely honoured to be one of the first few to experience this suspended roller coaster ride!

The ride itself is very unique. Almost similar to a building lift that escalates to the top, the special thing about the ride is that it spirals upwards instead of vertically going upwards. The awesome thing about this ride is that it has 4 drop zones which comes very sudden and will surely catch theme park-goers by surprise. We highly recommend you to take the last row of seats as you will have a stunning view and experience the full gravitational force of the ride.

All in all, the world’s first Puss In Boots’ Giant Journey Suspended Roller Coaster is a good ride that is worth the wait. Just so you know, the suspended roller coaster ride depicts a story and to avoid spoiling the surprise for you, we will not be saying it here so that you can go and experience it for yourself!

In case you are wondering, the ride is suitable for both the adults and children and a long line of people queuing for this ride is expected. If you have visited Universal Studios Singapore before, the Puss In Boots’ Giant Journey Suspended Roller Coaster is definitely another reason for people to visit again.

If you are a Music Aficionado, you would agree with us that Bang & Olufsen manufactures the world’s best audio sound systems and speakers.

Founded in 1925 by Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen, Bang & Olufsen has come a long way and this year, the world’s oldest audio company is commemorating its 90th birthday with the Love Affair Collection.

The Love Affair Collection sees six of the company’s current products rejuvenated with a new palette option in keeping with the surge in interest towards beautiful materials, especially rose gold, which is experiencing a renaissance in the jewellery industry. One of the most emotive aspects is its underlying meaning. While white gold represents friendship and yellow gold means fidelity, rose gold represents love and is therefore the ultimate inspiration for this collection.

During the roaring 20s, Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen started their journey into technology when it was still an almost magical phenomenon, and with the accompanying flourish of Art Deco, it was clear that luxury, glamour, and exuberance were at the heart of the time.

Fast-forward 90 years and the company is pleased to launch a collection that truly captures the mood and style of the time, setting the stage for a love affair that could last the ages.

Combined with the warm colour fabrics recently developed in cooperation with Fashion Designer Stine Goya, the company hopes it will truly capture the hearts of customers who have enjoyed a love affair with the company over the years.

The radiant and romantic rose golden nuance is achieved through a unique dyeing process, which in itself inspires Bang & Olufsen’s designers to create concepts that can match any style and any age, where the only limit is their imagination. This, combined with warm and elegant walnut wood, bridges past and present to represent the passion, pride and persistence that has been driving Bang & Olufsen for the last 90 years.

The Love Affair Collection consists of six current Bang & Olufsen’s products.

The first is the majestic and recently launched BeoVision Avant 85, and then the all-in one entertainment solution BeoVision 11 and BeoRemote One. Also included in the range is the extremely popular magic-touch BeoPlay A9 music system and the elegant, lightweight BeoPlay H6 headphones.

Last but certainly not least, the collection will include the classic, slender, and straight-lined BeoLab 18 with a new walnut lamella front and a cabinet in a stunningly elegant rose golden version.

Though all of the six Bang & Olufsen’s products captured our hearts, the one that stood out for us is the elegant and lightweight BeoPlay H6 headphones that is retailing at SGD$698.

The BeoPlay H6 combines a natural and authentic sound performance with carefully selected, high-quality materials that rest softly and comfortably on the head, bringing a true sense of everyday luxury.

The softness of the lambskin on the ear pads is the first thing one will notice and the memory foam inside the ear pads adapts ensuring great comfort.

The head band is also very durable and it ages with grace because of the cow leather that gains patina and personality when worn over time.

This stylish over-ear headphones made from premium materials definitely deserves a mention for delivering top of the line sound quality.

What about you? Which of the six Bang & Olufsen’s products from the Love Affair Collection captured your heart?

Triumph In The Skies [also known as 衝上雲霄 in Chinese] is a Hong Kong-Chinese film adaptation of the Triumph In The Skies drama series and it is directed by Wilson Yip and Matt Chow; starring Louis Koo, Sammi Cheng, Francis Ng, Julian Cheung, Charmaine Sheh, Amber Kuo, Oceane Zhu, and Dean Liu.

Our Personal Opinion/Review of Triumph In The Skies

Jacqueline is a big fan of The Triumph In The Skies drama series and when she found out that there was going to be a film adaptation of the drama series, she was so excited that absolutely nothing was going to stop her from watching the movie, even if it was going to cost her a million dollars [yes, I’m exaggerating].

However, Jacqueline’s excitement about the movie was not an uncommon one because when I shared the news on Facebook that Julian Cheung and Charmaine Sheh were going to come to Singapore and promote the movie at Marina Bay Sands, many people were asking me for more details about the Red Carpet event and the Movie Gala Premiere.

So how did the movie fared?

Although I have not watched a single episode of the drama series, it wasn’t difficult for me to follow the movie as the story plot is entirely different from the drama series. As Triumph In The Skies is a romance comedy movie, you can expect lots of laughter and some pretty hot bathtub scenes.

However, don’t expect Triumph In The Skies to be like Fifty Shades Of Grey. It is nothing like it and both Jacqueline and I will highly recommend you to watch Triumph In The Skies over Fifty Shades of Grey anytime.

Also, we all love movies with sweet and happy endings, don’t we? Well, Triumph In The Skies does fulfill that and if you are finding ways to occupy your time after all the Chinese New Year visitations, you probably might want to consider going to the cinema and watch Triumph In The Skies. With a running duration of 100 minutes, Triumph In The Skies is rated PG-13 and is shown in Mandarin with English & Chinese subtitles.

Oh, and book your tickets early because the movie is expected to sell-out pretty fast!

Movie Synopsis of Triumph In The Skies

Young Pilot Branson [Louis Koo] recently takes over Skylette, his father’s aviation empire, only to realize his old flames Cassie [Charmaine Sheh] is a flight attendant there. Several years ago, he was forced to break up with her and move to New York to take care of his father’s business. To this day, the two continue to harbour feelings for each other but decide to keep them bottled up.

In an effort to re-brand the airline, Branson invites Rock Idol TM to star in an upcoming commercial and appoints Sam [Fransic Ng] as her flying consultant. Incongruent in both tastes and experience, this odd couple gets off on the wrong foot. However, as the shoot progresses, they slowly discover each other’s merits, developing a strong mutual attraction.

Jayden [Julien Cheung] has left Skylette Airline to become a pilot for private jets. He meets the young and vivacious Kika [Kuo Tsai Chieh] during a flight and assumes her to be wayward and shallow. But they turn out to have a lot in common and start falling madly in love. At the height of their romance, Jayden realises almost too late the secret behind her recalcitrance.

Each of the three relationships comes with its own setbacks. As long as one can accept the imperfection of things, finding happiness [however fleetingly], is a blessing in itself.

Movie Trailer of Triumph In The Skies

It is the time of the year again as Chinese New Year is just round the corner. Having worked at Chinese restaurants in my previous career as a Hotelier, I often get questions from both family members and friends about how to organise a Lo-Hei/Yu Sheng and what the various ingredients represent and mean.

Yu Sheng, also known as lo-hei is a Teochew-style raw fish salad. It usually consists of strips of raw fish [most commonly salmon], mixed with shredded vegetables and a variety of sauces and condiments, among other ingredients.

Hence, I present to you the 11 Steps to organising a Lo-Hei/Yu Sheng session [in the event that you have been arrowed/sabo-ed to conduct the Lo-Hei.

Disclaimer: Do note that in Singapore, there are many variations of Yu Sheng with different ingredients and what I have written here is for a simple classic Yu Sheng that you can buy from most stores. Some stores may even substitute the carrots with red ginger or orange peels.

Step 1: Add in the Salmon Slice/Raw Fish and say 年年有余 [Nian Nian You Yu]

年年有余 [Nian Nian You Yu] “means abundance throughout the year”

Step 2: Squeeze the Lime and/or add in the Pomelo & Pomelo Leaf and say 大吉大利 [Da Ji Da Li]

大吉大利 [Da Ji Da Li] means “good luck and smooth sailing”

Step 3: Sprinkle both the Pepper Powder and Cinnamon Powder and say 招财进宝 [Zhao Cai Jin Bao] 五福临门 [Wu Fu Lin Men]

招财进宝 [Zhao Cai Jin Bao] means “to attract wealth and treasures”
五福临门 [Wu Fu Lin Men] means “five blessings to arrive”

Step 4: Pour the Peanut Oil in a circular motion and say 一本万利 [Yi Ben Wan Li]

一本万利 [Yi Ben Wan Li] means “making a 10,000 fold profit with your capital”

Step 5: Add in the Carrots and say 鸿运当头 [Hong Yun Dang Tou]

鸿运当头 [Hong Yun Dang Tou] means “good luck is coming”

Step 6: Add in the Green Radish and say 青春常驻 [Qing Chun Chang Zhu]

青春常驻 [Qing Chun Chang Zhu] means “be forever youthful”

Step 7: Add in the White Radish and say 风声水起 [Feng Sheng Shui Qi]

风声水起 [Feng Sheng Shui Qi] means “progress at a fast pace and reach greater heights”

Step 8: Add in the Chopped Peanuts and say 金银满屋 [Jin Yin Man Wu]

金银满屋 [Jin Yin Man Wu] means “a house filled with gold and silver”

Step 9: Add in the Sesame Seeds and say 生意兴隆 [Sheng Yi Xing Long]

生意兴隆 [Sheng Yi Xing Long] means “prosperity for the business”

Step 10: Add in the Pok Chui Biscuit/Crackers and say 满地黄金 [Man Di Huang Jin]

满地黄金 [Man Di Huang Jin] means “a floor full of gold”

Step 11: Pour the Plum Sauce/Honey/Raw Fish Sauce and say 甜甜蜜蜜 [Tian Tian Mi Mi]

甜甜蜜蜜 [Tian Tian Mi Mi] means “to have sweet and loving relationships”

After completing all the 11 steps, everyone will then take their chopsticks and shout auspicious wishes as they toss the Yu Sheng as high as they can. It is believed that the height of the toss reflects the height of the person’s growth in fortunes, thus everyone is expected to toss enthusiastically.

Some auspicious wishes that everyone can use when tossing the Yu Sheng/Lo-Hei:

1. 恭喜发财 [Gong Xi Fa Cai] means “Congratulations on your wealth”
2. 万事如意 [Wan Shi Ru Yi] means “May all your wishes be fulfilled”
3. 步步高升 [Bu Bu Gao Sheng] means “Reaching higher level with each step”
4. 身体健康 [Shen Ti Jian Kang] means “Good health”
5. Huat Ah! [The most classic and epic Hokkien term we always use and it means “To prosper”]

Hope this yu sheng/lo-hei guide will be useful for you if you are ever called upon to organise one!

Real Escape Games need no introduction because they are pretty commonplace in Singapore. In fact, I have tried a couple of them but nothing beats LOST Singapore [LOST SG], Singapore’s Next Generation Real Escape Game.

For those who haven’t got any idea as to what exactly is a Real Escape Game, it is essentially a real-life room escape game where players have to put together clues, puzzles, and race against time to escape from a locked room.

Having said that, are Real Escape Games still as popular as they were in Singapore?

Yes, they are! In fact, there are many different themed rooms with different interesting storylines and owners of Real Escape Games are constantly on the lookout to refresh the gameplay and storyboard.

Our Personal Review/Opinion of LOST SG

It was our first time at LOST SG and the experience from start to end was very fulfilling. Both Jacqueline and I were teamed up with Fash Realm and a group of people whom we only met briefly and we were assigned to play Castiglione.

Prior to the start of the game, a short introductory video was screened to us so that we understood the context of the game. As we don’t want to spoil the game for you [whether or not you’re planning to make a trip down], we will not be revealing much details here because we want you to have the most immersive gaming experience.

All we can say is, no brute force is required to escape from the room and there’s absolutely no scary actors or things that will suddenly jump onto you. The technology that is implemented in the design of the game is highly intuitive and we were really amazed by it.

If you are new to Real Escape Game, our tip is that you pay attention to details, have an analytical and logical mindset, and work together as a team; only then can you complete the game successfully.

How I wish the Singapore Armed Forces [SAF] could substitute the Situational Test [SIT Test] with the Real Escape Game because it really does help to promote cohesion and teamwork among teammates. Moreover, the games are suitable for all men and women; regardless of the level of physical fitness.

Personally, I have always enjoyed playing Real Escape Games because it helps me learn more about myself and also about others as well. While it is possible to complete a Real Escape Game by yourself, it is probably impossible to do so if you’re running against time. Hence, we highly recommend that you bring along some friends with you so that you can complete the game as a team. Furthermore, if you form a team of at least 7 players, you will be entitled to exclusive room usage. Do note that the game duration is only 60 minutes and payment is by Cash and NETS.

If you’re interested to head down to LOST SG and have a go at their escape rooms, do give them a call before heading down to avoid any disappointment. Alternatively, you can also make your booking via LOST SG Official Website.

Forget cockpits, jet engines, and the sweet smell of kerosene. All it takes is an ordinary sheet of paper, a throw away from national glory, and the promise of an awesome adventure.

Tens of thousands of self-trained pilots will put their extraordinary skills to the tests, in more than 80 countries on four continents for Red Bull Paper Wings; the world’s biggest and most exciting paper plane contest. The recipe for success requires a strong dose of exceptional folding abilities as well as creativity, imagination, and a grasp of basic aeronautic rules.

“Meet Miss Anxiety” also known as “我的早更女友” in Mandarin, is a romance comedy film that is directed by Kwak Jaeyoung, starring Zhou Xun and Tong Dawei. Released on 12 December 2014 in China, the film will be showing in Singapore on 5 February 2015.

Our Personal Opinion/Review of Meet Miss Anxiety

Thanks to Clover Films Singapore, we had the opportunity to catch “Meet Miss Anxiety” at Shaw Lido and we reckoned that the movie would be more popular with the ladies than the gentlemen.

Since “Meet Miss Anxiety” is a romance comedy film, you can expect lots of laughter and touching moments! It is funny how romance comedy films try to make you laugh and cry and laugh! Personally, we felt that there wasn’t much of a storyline but we were caught by the surprise twist towards the end of the movie as it solved the missing jigsaw puzzle as to why Yuan Xiao’ou [acted by Tong Dawei] wanted to be with Qi Jia [acted by Xun Zhou] so much.
Apart from the strong Chinese accent throughout the movie, both the lead actors portrayed their roles really well.

Well, love is in the air and you know it especially when Valentine’s Day is just round the corner. If you feel the love, why not share it by watching “Meet Miss Anxiety” with your other half? We assure you that you will be in for a good laugh!

Just so you know, “Meet Miss Anxiety” has a running time of 1 hour 38 minutes and is rated PG-13.

Our Personal Rating for “Meet Miss Anxiety”

Romance: 5/5
Storyline: 2/5
Humour: 4/5
Overall: 3/5
