Conceived by Normand Latourelle, one of the co-founders of famed Cirque du Soleil, Cavalia is a fresh mix of equestrian and performing arts, multimedia and special effects, innovatively integrating acrobatics, dance, aerial stunts and live music.

The show, often labelled as an equestrian ballet, combines advanced technology and the fundamental relationship that humans have developed with horses throughout time; enabling us to build bridges between cultures, to expand civilization and now to produce the purest form of art, one created through kindness, patience, and love. A show unlike any other, Cavalia celebrates the relationship between humans and horses, virtually reinventing the equestrian arts.

Enjoyed by more than four million spectators across the world, Cavalia is a harmonious celebration of beauty and nature encompassing imagery that whisks the spectator’s imagination around the earth over land and sea by displaying a vast array of equestrian and performing arts. Supported by state-of-the-art multimedia, Cavalia is an epic adventure, a fantastic demonstration of horsemanship that transports the audience into virtual environments.

The horses cavort with the many artists in front of a constantly changing digital background projected onto a 60 metre-wide screen. Each image projected on the immense cyclorama is first hand-painted and then finalised by graphic designers. To project these breathtaking backdrops, Cavalia uses 20 projectors as powerful as those illuminating the grandest movie theaters. This method of set design is unique to Cavalia and allows the audience to be immersed into dream-like environments.

Our Personal Review of Cavalia

Cavalia offers audiences a really unique one-of-a-kind theatrical experience that is truly magical and breath-taking. The death defying stunts performed by the professional team of acrobats will send audiences going “oohh and ahhh” and children will be so fascinated by the free-roaming horses. Furthermore, the live music that accompanies the show definitely keeps audiences in suspense!

Just in case you’re wondering, the White Theatre Tent is air-conditioned but do dress comfortably as the show is 2 hours long [inclusive of a 30-minute intermission].

Presented under its signature White Theatre Tent at Bayfront Avenue, beside the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Cavalia will only be here for a limited time till 14 September 2014, Sunday, and you really shouldn’t miss this spectacular show!

Under The Dome, based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel, tells the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. It’s been two weeks since the dome descended upon the sleepy town of Chester’s Mill, whose inhabitants are still struggling to survive with resources running low as their search for answers to what the barrier is and where it came from continues. The post-apocalyptic conditions intensify while the residents must decide who to rally behind as new faces emerge and Big Jim continues to battle for the town’s trust and allegiance. With survival hanging in the balance, can the residents of Chester’s Mill work together to protect their uncertain future?

In less than 8 days’ time, the Asian premiere of Cavalia will be galloping to Singapore and the grand-scale multi-media show featuring 50 horses and 43 artists from around the world will play under the gleaming White Theatre Tent at Bayfront Avenue, beside the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, on 12 August 2014.
Cavalia is a lavish production involving 50 magnificent horses and featuring 43 riders, aerialists, acrobats, dancers and musicians from all over the world. A show unlike any other, Cavalia is a harmonious celebration of beauty and nature, encompassing imagery that whisks the spectator’s imagination around the earth over land and sea by displaying a vast array of equestrian and performing arts. Supported by state-of-the-art multimedia, Cavalia can be described as an epic adventure, a fantastic demonstration of horsemanship that transports the audience into virtual atmospheres. Enjoyed by more than 4 million spectators across the world, Cavalia virtually reinvents the equestrian arts.

In Cavalia, horses cavort with the many artists in front of a constantly changing digital background projected onto a 60 metre-wide screen, drawing spectators into dream-like environments. Unlike traditional horse shows, Cavalia’s audience faces a single 50 metre-wide stage which allows the horses space to gallop at full speed, at times running completely free, unfettered by bridles or halters. The show takes place under a white, 2,440-square-metre big top, rising some 35 metres high that gives the horses an ample playground to perform with their trainers and artists. Cavalia’s White Theatre Tent is the largest touring tent in the world.

Cavalia has received critical acclaim from around the world. The Washington Post described the show as “Horseplay of the highest order”. Las Vegas Magazine claimed it is “One of the most spectacular hybrids of modern theater in the world”, The Toronto Star said “A new fairy tale-like show from the imagination of a Cirque du Soleil founder”, while Paris Match defined it as “Pure poetry”. Bild in Berlin called Cavalia “A wonderland full of mystery and poetry”, Telecinco in Madrid raved “One of the most beautiful shows in the world”, The Oprah Magazine called the show “Breathtaking!” and Larry King raved, “The best show I have ever seen!”.

Delightful, thrilling and poignant, Cavalia explores humankind’s longstanding relationship with the horse. Cavalia’s horse training is based upon a philosophy of understanding horses, rather than making horses understand the humans around them. The tone of the show, embraced by the entire company, is one of mutual respect, kindness, patience, and trust. Audiences have found Cavalia exhilarating in scope, yet touching in the compassion shown by both horse and human.

This October, Universal Studios Singapore is set to bring your scariest nightmares to life once again. Since the launch of Halloween Horror Nights in 2011, it has been an annual event for all who dare to take up the challenge and conquer their fears; and this year’s Halloween Horror Nights 4 will deliver the most number of event nights with the most number of haunted houses and scare zones.

With the Minister of Evil taking office for Halloween Horror Nights 4, evil will be unleashed upon guests with Singapore’s first 3-D horror house experience.

Is he really the Minister of Goodwill?

As the iconic character for Halloween Horror Nights 4, the demonic Minister of Evil will bring with him an uprising and new social order. From city centres to schools and army barracks, demons will be awakened; clowns and fairy tales will turn loony; and urban legends will come alive. Guests will have nowhere to hide as the Minister of Evil unleashes ‘Demoncracy’ upon the park.

Minister of Goodwill is actually the Minister of Evil.

With four haunted houses and four immersive scare zones this year, the Minister of Evil has something sinister for everyone. The haunted houses will be located across New York zone and Lost World zone. Coulrophobia strikes as guests enter the world of a loony killer clown at Jack’s 3-Dementia; bullying in school takes a nasty twist when the victim returns to torment any who walk through the corridors at Jing’s Revenge; soldiers are put through sadistic training at Mati Camp and to top things off, evil aliens designed to extinguish the human race are born in test tubes at The L.A.B [Laboratory of Alien Breeding].

A new show will also be debuting at Pantages Hollywood Theater for the period of Halloween. Jack’s Nightmare Circus will feature aerial acrobats, contortionists and other freaky friends.

Halloween Horror Nights 4 runs for 13 nights over five weekends, from 3 – 5 October, 10 – 11 October, 17 – 18 October, 22 – 25 October, 31 October and 1 November 2014, from 7.30pm to 1.30am each evening. The theme park will close earlier at 6.00pm on event nights.

Selected rides and attractions will be open during the event, including TRANSFORMERS The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle and Shrek 4-D Adventure for guests looking to extend their day experience.

Early-bird special tickets, priced at SGD$60 [usual price SGD$68], will be available from 25 July onwards. To enhance the experience of the event, guests can choose to skip the queues with the premiere R.I.P Tour, escorted by a personal guide. Limited Early-bird R.I.P Tour packages are available at SGD$158 [usual price SGD$198], as well. The Frequent Fear Pass will also be making a comeback this year. Frequent Fear Passholders can revisit the event as many times as they like, on 7 of the 13 event nights [3 – 5, 10, 17, 22, 23 October] at a price of SGD$118.

Special pricing is also available for Resorts World Sentosa hotel guests, corporate and bulk purchases, Universal Studios Singapore Annual Passholders, and daytime theme park guests. RWS INVITES members enjoy an exclusive ticket price of SGD$50, as well as a priority admission into the park.

Halloween Horror Nights is a separately ticketed event and is not included with regular day admission to the theme park. Daytime guests who desire to “Stay & Scream” at Halloween Horror Nights 4 on the same evening may choose to upgrade their admission tickets at an additional cost of SGD$50.

For the convenience of outbound guests, RWS 8 shuttle bus services will be extended to 3.30am on event nights. Night Rider services will continue to operate during the weekends.

With more nights, more haunted houses, and scare zones, this year’s edition of Halloween Horror Nights is a must see, must experience event. Tickets will be selling like hotcakes and advance purchase is strongly recommended. Tickets are available from 25 July at www.halloweenhorrornights.com.sg, www.rwsentosa.com, or you can call +65 6577 8899.

However, do note that Halloween Horror Nights may be too intense for young children and it is not recommended for children below the age of 13. No costumes, masks, or face painting are allowed to the event.

Back stories of the haunted houses and details of the scare zones will be unveiled over the next few weeks on the event website at www.halloweenhorrornights.com.sg. Fans will not only gain exclusive sneak peeks into the event experience, but also stand to win horrific prizes on our social media platforms.

Are you ready for Demoncracy?

Juventus FC or Singapore?

If you have been following us on Instagram, you might have caught a glimpse of what you can expect from this year’s National Day Parade 2014 [NDP 2014] and we must say, this year’s NDP 2014 is going to be quite a heart-warming and soul-touching one as compared to previous years. If you didn’t know, there is no NDP Theme Song this year but you can expect a whole load of oldies that is ready to send chills down your spine as you join in the celebrations and sing along with other fellow Singaporeans.

As with almost every NDP, the aerial flypast by the Republic of Singapore Air Force [RSAF] and the dynamic defence display by the Republic of Singapore Navy [RSN], the Singapore Army, and Home Team Academy [HTA] are undeniably one of the crowd favourites and this year, we were very privileged to go behind-the-scenes and find out what it takes for the RSAF to make the aerial flypast a roaring success and how the RSN carried out the dynamic sea defence display through the showcasing of its fast moving Rigid-Hulled Inflatable Boats [RHIBs]!

Aerial Flypast by RSAF’s F-15SG

Since 1970, the aerial flypast has been a regular NDP favourite but what many people don’t know is that the aerial flypast would not have been possible if not for the considerable amount of effort and dedication that the team has to put in so that it can be a roaring success.

This year’s NDP 2014 aerial flypast team is helmed by a team of 6 very capable Pilots and 6 Weapon Systems Officers, led by Commanding Officer, Major Nick Wong. Even though the actual flypast consists of five F-15SG, the sixth jet serves as a reserve in the event any one of the jets encounter technical issues.

The RSAF’s F-15SG is an all-weather multi-role fighter designed to achieve air superiority over the battlefield. It is the most advanced and technologically sophisticated variant of the F-15 aircraft built to date.

Prior to the actual flypast, there are many preparatory work to be done and the team involved would have to undergo tons of practise, drills, and rehearsals. To execute the aerial flypast, every minute details has to be taken into consideration and that also includes adjustments even during the actual flight. The 149 SQN Flight Line Crew consists of Full-Time National Servicemen [NSFs] and Regular Air Force Engineers and they perform inspections and maintenance on the aircraft before and after flights. It is through their dedicated efforts that the aircraft are maintained in tip-top condition for optimal flying performance, every time.

Dynamic Sea Defence Display By RSN’s RHIBs

The Dynamic Defence Sea Display segment simulates naval divers on two RHIBs who will interdict a target vessel at the Marina Bay. These naval divers play an important role to keep the people safe from potential adversaries and threats when called upon.

We were very privileged to be on board the RSN’s RHIBs and we witnessed the preparation and rehearsals of the RHIBs. While on the RHIB, we saw how the crew rehearsed arduously, experienced high speed manoeuvres on the RHIBs, and witnessed the operators firing the heavy weaponry on board.

Similar RHIBs are also found on board the RSN’s warships and they are used in a variety of operations such as the transfer of equipment and personnel from ship to ship/shore and Man Overboard Recovery. RHIBs are also commonly used in maritime security roles such as base defence and security boarding operations.

It may also be fitted with guns of various calibres, allowing it to be used for wide range of maritime security operations.

The RHIB can go in excess of 30 knots and possesses high manoeuvrability.

There will still be the usual traditions in NDP 2014 where the 21-gun salute and “foie de joie” will take place.

The NDP 2014’s show segment is bold and vibrant, with a real connection to the everyday challenges and opportunities that Singaporeans face.

Through four acts, the show celebrates what we, as a people, have built with our own hands; shares the familiar warmth of our home; recognises the determination of everyday Singaporeans; and encourages Singaporeans to stand up, cheer and sing for the courage, conviction, and caring spirit that our nation is founded on.

We personally feel that the show segment for this year is rather different from previous years’ and at the end of it all, tears actually welled up in our eyes as we concluded the parade with the singing of the National Anthem and the Pledge-Taking. The sweat, blood, and tears that every participant has shed into putting up such a grand celebration for Singapore is truly commendable!

We shan’t spoil the actual parade for you by revealing too much juicy details but really, the NDP 2014 will definitely be a very memorable parade, not just for the participants but also for the audiences. I’m definitely looking forward to watching the actual NDP 2014!

Thanks to Clover Films, we were very privileged to have been invited to the Gala Premiere of the “Hungry Ghost Ritual” movie and we had the rare opportunity to get up close and personal with Nick Cheung and Carrie Ng.

Truth be told, it was our first time catching a horror flick as a couple and movies with a horror genre isn’t really our cup of tea. Nevertheless, we survived the 82-minutes ordeal and emerged victoriously.

The “Hungry Ghost Ritual” movie is Nick Cheung’s directorial debut, starring talented Taiwanese actress, Annie Liu and himself.

The movie tells the story of a Cantonese opera troupe that is harassed by malicious spirits ten days before the Hungry Ghost Festival. Footages from the CCTV, installed by Zonghua [acted by Nick Cheung], affirms his suspicions. Who are these spirits and what exactly are they after?

You got to watch the “Hungry Ghost Ritual” movie to find out!

Our Personal Review Of Hungry Ghost Ritual

The “Hungry Ghost Ritual” movie was extremely spooky and we were spooked out by the sudden and loud sound effects! There were multiple on-screen scares and coupled with the sound effects, it gave us a really good scare throughout the entire movie.

The storyline was good and the acting was very real. The movie ended with a very dramatic and sad ending and it is probably the case for most horror films. The movie is rated NC-16 for Horror and Sexual Scenes so for those under 16s, it is a NO-GO.

Were we very traumatised after watching the movie?

Not exactly. In fact, if you want to survive watching the movie, you got to understand that horror movies are only scary because of the sound effects. If you don’t believe us, try watching a horror movie without sound and you will realise that it is not so scary after all.

The “Hungry Ghost Ritual” movie is set to hit the cinemas in Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong on 10 July, in conjunction with the Hungry Ghost Festival! If you are a fan of horror films or if you desire to experience some thrilling scares, you should watch the “Hungry Ghost Ritual” movie and tell us your chilling date with the ghosts!

Watch if you dare!

As you know, soccer season is upon us and it’s time for the biggest matches to commence! Our favourite football club is, as most of you would probably know, Liverpool, but this time round, it’s bigger than just the clubs; we’ll be rooting for Germany to win!
To get our blog into the mood for the coming month, here are 5 things that we’re definitely looking forward to this football season:

  1. The Atmosphere

The timing of the matches for this year is set to be more irregular, with the group stage matches all occurring earliest at midnight in Singapore. Thus, the usual places such as Clarke Quay will be quiet, with a number of bars not opening past their normal operating hours. There’s still hope to catch some of that football fever though, sites like TimeOut Singapore have listed great places to go absorb the lively atmosphere, watch the match, and have some good beer grub at the same time!

  1. Social Gatherings

What better way to use this opportunity to invite your friends over or go over to a friend’s place and have some bonding time? Whether you’re a soccer fan or not, it’s a good excuse to catch up with your buddies by having a house party.

  1. Hot bods to look out for

Footballers and WAGs. Who said you had to pick a Top 10 list of all the hottest footballers on the planet? With the best footballers congregating on screen for your viewing pleasure, you won’t be short of eye candy for the next 25 days!

  1. Winning Bets

While the detriments of gambling should always be emphasized, it’s always fun to have a friendly wager (or three) on who’s going to win that next match with your best buds . It certainly adds to the excitement of watching eleven men chasing a ball on a field, doesn’t it?

  1. The Beautiful Game

The term ‘Beautiful Game’ was first said to be used by legendary footballer Pelé, and truly it’s the accessibility of football; how easy it is to pick up, understand, and play.  Football definitely unites people and transcends differences. Even if you’ve friends who aren’t soccer fans, chances are they won’t mind catching a match or two as a get-together!

And if you’re hosting your friends to come over your place and watch the World Cup 2014, here’s 5 things you should stock up in your fridge!

1. Beer

Studies have shown that consuming everyone’s favourite fermented beverage in moderation can lower your risk of stroke; but it’s okay to go slightly above moderation on occasion when you’re celebrating the win of the country you’re supporting! Be sure to stock up your fridge with ample supply for you and your friends!

2. Hummus

Simply because everything goes with it. Hummus makes for a perfect dip, and is delicious with pretzels, pita bread red peppers, carrots, you name it! An easy crowd pleaser with crackers for the gatherings of 15 hungry people in your house watching the next big game. Need we say more? More reasons to have more hummus here.

3. Salsa and Tortilla Chips

A quick hack to making a wholesome salsa dip is to buy a batch of chunky salsa, and then making it even heartier by adding in more fresh ingredients like chopped fresh tomatoes, onions, and chilies. Don’t forget the corn chips too – salsa is only complete with you dip some tortilla chips in and savour the chunky sauce with crunchy chips.

4. BRAND’S® Essence of Chicken

As an all-natural health food supplement, BRAND’S® Essence of Chicken can help reduce stress levels and contribute to a relaxed mood. It also increases mental concentration, improves short-term memory and immunity, alleviates task-induced stress, increases metabolic rate, and boost energy. Perfect as a pick-me-up and vitality booster in this season of late nights! This will definitely come in handy if you have to go back to work the next day.

5. Cheese Sticks

Not only do they taste great, but they come individually wrapped. It really doesn’t get more convenient than that! Also, if you’re feeling up to a bit more preparation, fried mozzarella cheese sticks are always a party favourite.

Psst, in collaboration with BRAND’S, we will be running 3 separate contests for all you readers and in total, there will be more than SGD$300 worth of BRAND’S Products and SGD$350 worth of Takashimaya Vouchers to be won!

To get you started, the first contest will be taking place from 16 June 2014 to 22 June 2014 and we will be releasing the details for the contests on 15 June 2014 so do keep a look out for it!

Stay tuned to us and Game On!
