In our recent trip to Taichung, Taiwan, the last two attractions that we went to was Carton King and Banana New Paradise. If anyone is wondering, we actually planned for a day tour in Taichung because we really miss the Tai Yang Bing [a.k.a Sun Biscuit/Cake] and we found it pretty pointless to spend money on High Speed Rail Tickets to Taichung just for boxes of Tai Yang Bing. Hence, we decided to sniff out other attractions that we haven’t been to so that we could kill multiple birds with one stone.
Carton King

Last year, we were at the Carton King branch in Nantou and this time round, we went to the Carton King Creativity Park in Taichung. The Carton King Creativity Park in Taichung is way bigger than the one we went to in Nantou and there are also more things to look at and shop for.

Ticket booth made of cardboxes and paper.

Entrance tickets to Carton King Creativity Park cost $200 TWD and it also comes with a voucher that we could use to buy souvenirs or food and beverage.

Almost all of the displays in Carton King Creativity Park is made by corrugated paper.

Sitting on the sofa like a boss. The sofa was made out of cardboards.

If you wish to purchase some of these unique displays, you can do so at the souvenir store but you would have to assemble them from scratch. The souvenir store also has some really interesting cards that you might want to check out and purchase as gifts for your family members and friends.

Apart from the souvenir store, there’s also a mini bee/honey museum, a restaurant, and a candy store! As our next destination was Banana New Paradise [a unique 1900s-themed restaurant], we skipped lunch at Carton King Creativity Park. If you’re planning to visit Carton King Creativity Park, do note that the restaurant only serves lunch from 1100 to 1400 and dinner from 1700 to 2030. A meal for an adult would cost approximately 250 TWD to 400 TWD and for children, it would cost about 150 TWD.

The dining table and seats in the restaurant at Carton King is also made of cardboard.

At the mini honey/bee museum at Carton King Creativity Park. This is the reason why I deserve to be an actor.

Jacqueline’s new found friends.

To go or not to go?

Verdict: Carton King Creativity Park is really unique and there are probably no other places like it. There are tons of opportunities for photos and if you’re an artsy person, Carton King Creativity Park might be your source of inspiration for some creativity. The souvenirs available are reasonably priced and some of the DIY kits are pretty interesting and suitable to be placed at home for decoration purposes. Hence, we personally feel that you ought to have Carton King Creativity Park in your itinerary if you’re planning to visit Taichung. In fact, we would definitely return to get some more stuffs from their souvenir store because they are really unique and inexpensive.

Banana New Paradise

Banana New Paradise is situated near to the Confucius Temple, the Taichung Broadcasting Bureau, and Yizhong Night Market. It was a pity that we didn’t have much time to explore this part of Taichung because we uncovered quite a number of attractions in this vicinity where Banana New Paradise is at.

Banana New Paradise has an old train carriage right outside their restaurant.

Old telephone communication system onboard the old train carriage.

If you wondering what is Banana New Paradise, it is essentially a theme restaurant that serves Chinese and Taiwanese meals. The decorations and displays in the 1900s-themed restaurant is really unique and you will get a taste of what it feels like to be living in Taiwan during that era.

The restaurant even has an entire, authentic-looking replication of a Taiwan street from the 1920s to 1940s. Apart from the colonial-era store fronts and the displays of real antiques, there’s also old mailboxes, signs and posters, a 50-year-old taxi, motorcycles, fully-stocked camera store, dentist office, barber shop, movie theater, and a candy and toy store too. All these can be found in Banana New Paradise and they are really a sight to behold.

The toy and candy shop!

Yes, they even have features from the Ching Dynasty!

Old school barber shop.

An old school cinema booth! We used to have something like this in Singapore too.

Old school cinema posters.

Real antiques that are extremely rare.

I don’t really know what this is but it sure looks like a machine used for shaving ice.

Your eyes ain’t tricking you. This is not some part of an alley. In fact, they are inside the theme restaurant itself!

It’s time for school!

We were quite surprised to see this fire hydrant inside the restaurant too!

Jacqueline posing for a photo with the fire hydrant.

Old school cameras.

Visitors can sit at tables along the “street”, or inside “shops”, and enjoy Chinese and Taiwanese meals.

The super duper unique food menu.

And how was the food?

It was really superb!

When we were there, we did not manage to arrive in time for their normal lunch hours and as a result, we only managed to order some light snacks to fill ourselves. Hence, it was more like a high tea session than lunch.

Char Siew Pau

Carrot Cake

Fried Beancurd Roll

Fried Sticky Rice

Ice Lemon Tea

Icy Mango

To go or not to go?

Verdict: Banana New Paradise is definitely one of the most extraordinary theme restaurants in Taichung and the food is relatively superb as well. The cost of having a meal at Banana New Paradise is reasonable though it is considered to be on the higher end by the locals. If you’re a history buff and you want to have an experience of what living in Taiwan during the 1900s is like, you might want to include Banana New Paradise in your itinerary. Furthermore, there’s no entrance fees and you pay only for what you consume in the restaurant.

Overall, our one day tour at Taichung was a really fruitful one and as you can see, we bought lots of goodies on just one single day.

I was personally very tired from the one-day trip in Taichung and here I am taking a quick power nap before arriving in Taiwan for the rest of our trip.

In our few upcoming blog entries, we will be sharing with you some of the interesting places that we have been to in Taipei and New Taipei so do look out for that! Have a lovely weekend! 🙂

During our visit to Taichung, one of the attractions that we visited was the Xinshe Castle, a European-style castle. From the Lavender Cottage, the journey took about 20 minutes by car and according to our driver, the Xinshe Castle is quite a popular tourist attraction.

The entrance tickets to Xinshe Castle cost $250 TWD and it comes with a $100 TWD Voucher which could be used for shopping and food/drinks.

The exterior façade of Xinshe Castle looks rather grand and its compounds are huge!

There are tons of man-made water features and the place offers ample photo opportunities.

However, we spent less than 20 minutes at Xinshe Castle and we felt rather cheated because the attraction just wasn’t worth the money. In fact, when we were there in June this year, mosquitoes were aplenty and we aren’t sure if it was due to the season/weather. However, what we do know is that the mosquito bites that we received were stinging pain!

Trying my very best to force a smile for the camera because the mosquitoes were getting on my nerves.

If you have Xinshe Castle in your travel itinerary, we highly suggest that you bring along some insect repellent and apply them to your body to keep those pesky mosquitoes away. Otherwise, you might want to leave Xinshe Castle out of your travel itinerary.

Another attraction that we visited was the local mushroom farm and it was quite a last minute decision because during the car ride, we noticed that there were quite a number of mushroom farms around the vicinity. We also found out from our driver that the place was well-known for its fresh mushrooms.

When we arrived at one of the local mushroom farms, the place wasn’t as pretty as any attraction would appear to be but it was quite a worthwhile learning experience as we saw how the mushrooms were being grown and harvested by hand.

The place was rather dark and humid and the conditions were suitable for the mushrooms to grow. Apart from mushrooms, lingzhi are being cultivated as well.

Fresh mushrooms ready for harvesting.

The mushroom farm also have some food products for sale and you can sample some of them before making the decision to buy them. Some of the products include fried vegetable chips, dried mushrooms, and other fresh produce.

Overall, we personally feel that Xinshe Castle was a waste of time and money and its only a place good for visiting only once. As for the mushroom farms, you might just want to drop by a while to take a look and learn something new.

It is now time for us to indulge in sharing about our recent trip to Taiwan. For this year, we spent only 4 days in Taiwan and though it was a short vacation, we managed to cover quite a number of attractions and we returned back to Singapore tired but happy.

Our 4 Days 3 Nights itinerary were as follows:…

Day 1- Taichung & Taipei Taiwan: -Lavender Cottage -Xinshe Castle -Mushroom Farm -Carton King Creativity Park -Banana New Paradise -Xi Men Ding

Day 2- Taipei, Taiwan: -Xi Men Ding -Raohe Night Market

Day 3- New Taipei & Taipei, Taiwan: -Jingtong Railway Station -Shifen Old Street -Shifen Waterfall -Jiu Fen -Gold Ecological Park -Golden Waterfall -Shuinandong Smelter -Ying Yang Sea -Shilin Night Market

Day 4- Taipei, Taiwan -Shuang Lian

As we have previously written some articles about our earlier trips to Taiwan in 2011 and 2012, we might be repeating some of these entries as there are some new and updated information to include. Hence, do give us some time as we do our best to consolidate our various experiences in Taiwan.

As usual, we took the midnight flight to Taipei via Scoot Airlines and we arrived at Taoyuan International Airport at 05:55am in the morning. Having picked up our baggage and cleared the customs, we took the U Bus, Bus Number 705, to Taipei High Speed Rail Station. The cost of the bus trip is NT$30 per person and it took about 20 minutes.

Since we arrived early at Taipei High Speed Rail Station, we had some light breakfast and then boarded the High Speed Train to Taichung.

Last year, we took the Business Class Seats but for this particular trip, we decided to go for the Economy Class Seats as we wanted to save more for our shopping spree. The cost of the train trip was NT$540 per person and it is way cheaper than the Business Class Seats. Furthermore, the only difference between the Economy Class Seats and Business Class Seats is that the Business Class Seats are wider and Business Class Passengers get some complimentary light snacks.

Before we even embarked on our flight to Taiwan, we had prearranged with our hired driver to pick us up at Taichung High Speed Rail Station. Hence, this really save us a lot of hassle and trouble from having to lug our luggage around, and the best part is, we had more time to cover more attractions.

Our first stop for the first day was the Lavender Cottage.

Having done some extensive research, we decided that we wanted to reconnect with nature and hence this was the very reason why Lavender Cottage was part of our itinerary. The car journey from Taichung High Speed Rail Station to Lavender Cottage took about 45 minutes and because it is situated in the mountains, there aren’t any public bus that plies the area. Hence, the only mode of transportation to get there would be via private transport and if you’re up for the challenge, you could hike up too but it will be quite a long journey up.

The operating hours for Lavender Cottage are as follows:

Monday to Friday 10:30 – 18:30
Saturday to Sunday 10:00 – 18:30

In case you’re wondering whether there’s any entrance fees to Lavender Cottage, yes there is. It will cost NT$200 per person to enter Lavender Cottage but to be honest, the price is really worth it as the entrance ticket also comes with a NT$200 voucher that you can use to shop for souvenirs or buy food/drinks.

When we were there, it was the season for Salvia Flowers and though we expected to see tons of Lavender Flowers, we didn’t have the opportunity as it wasn’t the season for it. In case you’re wondering, the season for Lavender Flowers is from November to April.

The Lavender Cottage offers tons of opportunities for photo-taking and we really like the setting.

When we reached Lavender Cottage, the first thought that came to our mind was to take a deep breath of fresh air! The sky was indeed beautiful and what do we see? A heart-shaped cloud!

Even the souvenir shop has lots of interesting stuffs that you can purchase too.

We were quite spoilt for choices as there were so many souvenirs to choose from. They had tea leaves.

Handmade Soaps…

Bathing Salts…

Oil Essence…

Scented Creams and Lotions…

Of course there are tons of other souvenirs that are available at Lavender Cottage but it would be too much to list them all. So, if you’re wondering what you should get if you happen to be there, we will highly recommend you to get their handmade soaps or their scented bags.

An overview map of Lavender Cottage.

When you start walking around Lavender Cottage, you might spot some Geckos like these and it is said that they are attracted to people wearing white t-shirts. I’m not too sure if they bite or what not but it is better for you to stay clear of them.

Here are just some shots that we took while exploring Lavender Cottage.

Looks somewhat like our Singapore Botanical Gardens.

They even have the merry-go-round ride in what seems like a jungle.

One of the food and beverage outlets where you can purchase some cakes and drinks.

If you wish, you can have a picnic in the jungle for that nature-feel.

There are postcards available from the souvenir shop and you can actually buy one and send it to your family members and friends, or even to yourself.

Pretty flowers!

The owners of Lavender Cottage stays in this really huge house and in case you’re wondering, yes, there are people currently living in it.

The really beautiful ladies bathroom/toilet that every lady dream to have at home.

To go or not to go to the Lavender Cottage?

Well, we say, “To Go!”

The Lavender Cottage is a worthy attraction and like we mentioned, there are really tons of opportunities for photo-taking. Moreover, the scenery is really beautiful and when you stepped into the surroundings, you will find yourself relaxed and calm.

Given the opportunity, we will definitely visit this beautiful place of nature again. Though it may be quite a distance, the journey is definitely worth it. However, do bring along some insect repellent as there will be pesky mosquitoes that are eager to feed on you.  If you would like to check it out for yourself, the details of Lavender Cottage are as follows:

Address- No. 20, Zhongxing St, Xinshe Dist, Taichung City 426, Taiwan Telephone- +886425931066

Thanks to Nikon Singapore, we had the opportunity to review the Nikon COOLPIX P520 compact camera and we brought it out to the Universal Studios Singapore at Resorts World Sentosa for some photography fun.
As you all probably know, parking at Resorts World Sentosa is really expensive and hence, we parked our car at Sentosa’s Beach Carpark and then boarded Sentosa Bus 1 which goes to Resorts World Sentosa. The other bus that also goes to Resorts World Sentosa is Sentosa Bus 2 and if you prefer taking the Sentosa Express Train, you can do so at the Waterfront Station.

In case you’re wondering how much parking at Sentosa’s Beach Carpark cost, it cost only $1 [after 5pm on weekdays] and our entrance to Sentosa was free as we have the Sentosa Islander Card.

Now, we are going to let the photos do the talking and the photos that you see in this entry are all taken with the Nikon COOLPIX P520 [unless otherwise indicated]:

Camera Performance

To be honest, we were quite disappointed with the way the photos turned out. We took more than a hundred shots and the photos in this entry are somewhat the best photos that we have taken with it. We’re not sure if we have pushed the camera to the extreme by trying out night shots but even some indoor shots didn’t quite meet our expectations.

Some of the indoor shots that we’ve taken:

From Nikon COOLPIX 2013

Taking photos of moving subjects proved to be a really challenging task and most of the time, the photos turned out quite blurry. These could be due to the laggy shutter speed and autofocus system.

However, with that said, the 42x optical zoom range is mightily impressive and it allows you to shoot photos of subjects from afar. The flip-out rotating 3.2-inch LCD also allows you to take self-photos without much of a hassle. If you’re after a mega-zoom compact camera and you don’t really care about having additional features that you hardly will use, the Nikon COOLPIX P520 will work just fine as a point and shoot compact camera.

So what do you think of the Nikon COOLPIX P520?

If you’re interested, the Nikon COOLPIX P520 is available at all Nikon Authorised Dealers for $719 and for more information and updates, do check out Nikon Singapore’s Facebook Page as they have some exciting photography workshops coming up!

Two months ago, Baby and I celebrated our anniversary with a staycation at the Far East Orchard Parade Hotel and in this blog entry, we will share about our 2 days 1 night stay over there.
We drove to Orchard Parade Hotel, parked our car, and carried our barang barang to the front desk where we were supposed to check-in. The checking-in process was rather SOP [standard operating procedures] and nothing much to rave about. Our expectations of their service would have exceeded if they at least offered to carry our stuffs to our room; but well, that did not happen.

While walking to the lift, we passed by some retail stores and a bar at the lobby area of the hotel but it was nothing out of the ordinary.

From Anniversary 2013

Looking at the key card, we were allocated the Premier Room on the 16th level and yes, complimentary breakfast for 2 at Tung Lok Classics was included with our stay as well.

From Anniversary 2013

We entered our room and this is how the room looks like with a king-sized bed. The lightings were rather dim and shooting photographs of the room were quite difficult.

From Anniversary 2013

Although we requested for a non-smoking room, the room smelt smoky and we confirmed our suspicion after spotting a smoking tray on the desk.

From Anniversary 2013

The amenities in the room are pretty standard and average. There’s a desk for you to do your work, a mini-bar fridge filled with some soft drinks and beer, an electric kettle, complimentary bottles of water, and coffee/tea packets.

From Anniversary 2013
From Anniversary 2013

The bathroom had a small bathtub [meant for slim people] but other than that, it was quite the norm. And yes, complimentary toiletries were provided

From Anniversary 2013
From Anniversary 2013
From Anniversary 2013

We highly doubt we will ever consider staying at the Orchard Parade Hotel in future but honestly for the price of SGD$306.02 [including all taxes], I think going for a staycation with Boutique Hotels like Klapsons or Naumi Liora would be a much better idea.

Anyway, we will not be blogging about the complimentary buffet breakfast at Tung Lok Classics because there’s nothing really fabulous to blog about their breakfast. The variety of food offered was rather little and the service level was a disappointment.

With that being said, not all is bad about staying at the Orchard Parade Hotel. As a matter of fact, the only plus point about staying at Orchard Parade Hotel is its close proximity to Orchard Road. So, walking to the main shopping area from Orchard Parade Hotel takes about 5-7 minutes, depending on your walking speed.

Stay tuned to more updates from us!

God bless!

If any of you noticed, we have not been blogging much and no, we’re not giving up blogging totally; it’s just that we don’t have the luxury of time to blog due to our busy work schedules. Nevertheless, most of our blog posts this year will be rather personal and occasionally, you might get to see sponsored blog posts for the various brands that we’re writing for.
Anyhows, we are really happy that as of now, there are 73 Winsomelifers whom have signed up for our Winsomelifer’s Programme and for our current giveaway that is ending in 10 days time, we have received more than 55 entries! So really, here’s a big “Thank You!” to all you Winsomelifers for supporting us all the way.

In this blog entry, I will be blogging about my recent trip to Ipoh.

Three weeks ago, I went back to Ipoh with my family to attend my cousin’s wedding and the entire trip was a blast. The last time I’ve been to Ipoh was many years back and though I don’t really recall much of the past, this recent trip back to Ipoh left quite a lasting impression on me.

Ipoh is the capital city of Perak state, Malaysia and it is approximately 200 km north of Kuala Lumpur on the North-South Expressway. When I was there during my recent trip, I personally felt that the city was laid-back and the pace of living is not as fast as Singapore. So, if you’re looking for a very laid-back and relaxed kind of getaway, you might want to consider visiting Ipoh.

Since I have previously blogged about the first day of my stay in Ipoh, this blog post would very much touch on the second day of my stay in Ipoh.

Before the wedding “gate-crashing” ceremony, we went to a nearby roadside stall to have breakfast and I really like the laid-back feel of the city.

From Ipoh Trip 2012

In Malaysia, apparently all of the “kopitiam” [coffee] shops are known as “restoran” [restaurants] but they are really unlike the Singapore kind of restaurants where there’s air-conditioning and waiters.

So for breakfast that morning, I had the Penang Fried Kway Teow [Wat Dan Hor Style].

From Ipoh Trip 2012

The Penang Fried Kway Teow [Wat Dan Hor Style]. To be honest, the food wasn’t that bad and I kinda enjoyed it. The only exception was the prawns. For some reason, the prawns had a rather odd taste that smelt as if it has been left to decay for days and this didn’t happened at just one store in one location; in fact, I tried the prawns at many different stores at different locations but they had the same fishy or “decaying” smell.

From Ipoh Trip 2012

Here’s a photo of my cousin, Ryan, enjoying his bowl of Laksa.

From Ipoh Trip 2012

As usual, I try not to miss out on the Iced Ipoh Coffee in the morning because the white coffee is unlike the white coffee that is available here in Singapore.

From Ipoh Trip 2012

After our rather filling breakfast, we went over to my Cousin’s place to witness the “gate-crashing” ceremony and it was quite an enlightening moment.

The “sisters” of the bride were very ready to sabotage the groom and his entourage from entering the gates.

From Ipoh Trip 2012

Having braved the first few challenges and sabotages by the “sisters”, the groom and his entourage tried to convince the “sisters” to let them in.

and well, without any doubts, the groom and his entourage did a fantastic job and here’s a photo of the bride and groom journeying to the bridal car.

From Ipoh Trip 2012

after a rather eventful morning, I went for a mini cyber-gaming competition with my brothers and cousins at one of the nearby cyber-cafes before heading back to our serviced apartment to rest. Needless to say, gaming is not my cup of tea and I lost in most of the matches.

Having prepared and rested enough, we got ready for the wedding banquet and walked to the restaurant from our serviced apartment [it was a 5-minutes walk].

And well, all the cousins were allocated to a table right at the very front near the stage and thank God for that because I managed to capture quite a number of good photos with my trusty iPhone 5 Camera.

From Ipoh Trip 2012

Well, this concludes day 2 of my stay in Ipoh and in the next few upcoming blog entries, I will share about the various attractions in Ipoh that are worth checking out.

Stay tuned to more updates from us!

Alright, I shall continue from where I left off about my Awana Genting Trip with Nuffnang.
The 2nd day of our trip went by pretty slowly. After waking up, I went for a quick shower and just when I had shampoo and soap all over my head and body, I discovered a leech that was crawling rather slowly on the wall.

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

And darn, the leech can really extend itself.

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

After the quick shower, I went to pack my bag and headed over to Pasir Ikan Bakar to have a hearty breakfast with the rest of the Nuffies.

The breakfast was a rather hearty affair because of the huge variety of food choices that we could choose from!

There was Porridge,

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

The last segment of the day was a simple telematch consisting of 5 challenges.

The 1st challenge was this…

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

I believe almost everyone would have played this in school camps before and well, even though it looks easy, tight coordination and speed are required to win the game! [photo courtesy of Nuffnang]

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

Alas, our team came in 3rd place! 😛 [Photo courtesy of Nuffnang]

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

The 2nd challenge was to have two balloons placed under our armpits and one balloon placed in between our legs, and we had to dash from one point to the other with the balloons. Again, this wasn’t that easy but it sure was fun because we looked extremely funny when dashing from one point to another with the balloons awkwardly placed! I looked kinda stupid trying to retrieve the balloon that dropped while I was dashing over to the other point. [Photo courtesy of Nuffnang]

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

The 3rd challenge was pretty straightforward. We had to form the longest line using only the items we have on our body. So, I guess there’s no need for a photo for that. 😛

The 4th challenge was to dash to the balloon, turn 5 rounds around it, grab the rubber bands using only the straw, and then dash back to the starting point. I think my team did pretty well for this one. [Photos courtesy of Nuffnang]

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

Last but not the least, we were required to perform a team cheer that lasted for 30 seconds and well, it was an overall good team effort because everyone gave their best shot for the final challenge! [Photo courtesy of Nuffnang]

& in 1st place: Fantastic Four!

The prizes were generously sponsored by Resorts World Genting and as for my team, we won a 2D1N Stay at First World Hotel! 🙂

It was overall a rather fruitful and rewarding trip to Awana Genting. I really would miss the beautiful greenery and cool weather over there. In fact, this trip to Awana Genting  has allowed me to make new friends in the Blogosphere, but more than just that, it has also given me one of the rarest opportunity to experience the more adventurous side of Genting. I am really indeed thankful to Nuffnang for selecting me to go on this trip, so kudos to Nuffnang and Awana Genting! & also not forgetting Zul and the rest of the team that made this trip possible for all of us![Photo courtesy of Nuffnang]

God Bless!

I was with the Nuffies for a 2D1N Awana Genting Trip that was generously and graciously sponsored by Genting and the trip was really fun and extraordinary! Ok, just to make my point clear; our trip was unlike the usual Genting Trip. In fact, our Genting Trip was very much in the “wilderness” [the sort you would associate Outward Bound Singapore with].
We were told to report to Golden Mile Complex at 0630 hours and I had to wake up at 0500 hours to prepare myself! Well, it has been a long time since I’ve woken up at hours like these since my army days and so, I cabbed down and was there pretty early.

Having grabbed some light snacks from the nearby Caltex Petrol Kiosk to munch on during the trip, I met up with the Nuffies and we boarded the Five Stars Tours Coach.

Sitting beside me whilst on the way to Genting were two lovely ladies, MeiTing & Michelle! Please don’t get the wrong idea here! All of us are happily attached to our other half 🙂

We had a short stopover at Yong Peng and I got my Malaysia Mobile SIM Card here for RM$30. By the way, the Malaysia SIM Card that I got allows me to make phone calls, send SMS-es, and surf the Internet! For unlimited data access, it would cost RM$8 a day and that is relatively cheap to me because if I were to use Data Roaming via Singtel, it would cost SGD$22 per MB! What a total ripoff right?!

That’s the mobile store that sells the Mobile SIM Card.

I didn’t really had the mood for any heavy breakfast so I ended up walking around and seeing what snacks I could buy to munch on.

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

I was rather intrigued by their Koi Fishes because they were super huge; unlike my Koi Fishes at home which are quite small in size.

By the way, the Five Stars Tours Coach was rather comfy and offers a rather spacious leg space. I could even lean the seat all the way back as though I’m sleeping on my couch!

The more atas [high-class] Five Stars Tours Coach even has Personal Entertainment, Videos On Demand [VOD], Massage Chair + Snoozer Seats, and even Guide Services.

Nothing much to see during the journey to Genting except trees, trees, and more trees.

Managed to wake up in time to capture this shot of Kuala Lumpur’s famous landmark, the Petronas Twin Towers!

And after the uber long journey, we finally reached Awana Genting!

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

The plot of land which Awana Genting sits on is extremely large! Getting from one point to another point can be really tiring!

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

To energise us after a long journey on the coach, we were treated to a buffet lunch at the Rajawali Coffee House where a wide range of food choices were available for us to choose from.

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

The dining area at Rajawali Coffee House is huge! There’s even a stage platform for occasional performances.

I managed to capture this beautiful shot of the Golf Course from where we were seated at Rajawali Coffee House.

Yummy and juicy fruits that were ultra fresh!

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

I had quite a healthy lunch consisting of fruits, desserts, and salad. Didn’t really have the appetite for a heavy lunch especially after the long journey.

Travelling to Sarawak Long House [our camping site] from Awana Genting’s Lobby can be quite a distance. So, we travelled on the mini buggy to get there.

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

While waiting for the rest of the Nuffies to arrive via the buggy, I took the liberty to explore the surroundings and shoot some photographs.

We could either sleep in the tents or the Long House.

Thankfully, we didn’t have to build/setup the tents. It was all ready for us and there were even mattresses placed inside the tents already.

Even the logs and chairs for the campfire at night were all setup and ready when we got there. Superb!

This is the common area of the Long House. The doors that you see are actually the doors to the respective rooms.

Ta-dah! Welcome to the sleeping area at the Long House!

When everyone arrived at the Long House, we were given a short tour around the campsite by Zul! He is a very nice and friendly facilitator throughout our entire stay. [photo courtesy of Nuffnang]

Welcome to the toilet.

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

The toilet isn’t as bad as what most people would think. If everyone is cooperative and makes a conscientious effort to aim their pee and clean up the mess, the toilet is actually quite liveable. The only thing which probably irked everyone was the constant flying insects and etc.

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

And this is the shower area. Many people would think that the showers at the campsites don’t have hot water but well, the shower does come with hot water; which I believe everyone is really thankful for!

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

From where we were, we could spot the Chin Swee Temple! Further up is Resorts World Genting.

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

Oh, and everyone was pretty thankful that there was power points for us to charge our phones and cameras! Truly a lifesaver indeed! By the way, there are 7 power points and it is definitely not enough. So, if you are heading there anytime soon, it would be wise to bring along a super-long multi-plug!

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

Since I didn’t expect that there would be power points, I actually bought along my Energizer XP4001 Universal Portable Charger which allowed me to fully charge my iPhone 5 twice! So yeah, I didn’t have to compete with others for the plug. 😛

After touring around the campsite, we broke up into 4 different groups and started the programme proper.

Here’s a photo of my team [Team Duo], consisting of Peishi, Diana, Kelvin, and myself.

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

We started the ECO Treasure Hunt with the Tangram Puzzle and seriously, it was difficult and complex. Thankfully, my team managed to clear this and all thanks to Peishi for her brilliant mind!

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

We had to decide for ourselves if time or points was more important. Obviously, the more difficult the puzzle, the more points there are; but that would also mean more time taken to complete the puzzle due to its complexity.

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

Having completed our first challenge, our second challenge was to locate the ECO Park and complete a physical activity. And so, when we reached the ECO Park, we found out that our second challenge was to get hooked up to the flying fox, and while flying mid-air, drop two golf balls into the hula hoops to gain points.

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

The task sounds and looks pretty easy but it sure wasn’t.

Here’s Kelvin flying like a boss.

Following which, our third challenge was to locate the Sunrise and Sunset Complex where the Archery and Wall Climbing are situated; and shoot some arrows + climb some wall.

After the ECO Treasure Hunt, we were all so famished that we could eat a cow! Boy were we glad when it was time for the BBQ Dinner at Pasir Ikan Bakar!

Seriously, the BBQ Dinner was way better than the lunch at Rajawali Coffee House and the food prepared by the Chefs were oh so yummy!

The BBQ Dinner was so fabulous that we really ate a lot! And after dinner, we headed to the campfire area for some lighthearted games like “Passing the Balloon a-la Dare Style”, “Guess the Leader”, “Charades”, and etc.

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

To kickoff the night activity, we had a group challenge where we had to eat [or literally downed] 2 sticks of Solero Split Ice-Creams and then aim and throw the Ice-Cream Sticks into a box to gain points.

Trying my very best to finish the Ice-Cream after a really heavy dinner!

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

Anyways, the weather wasn’t that good when we were there. It was raining on and off and as a result, we had to move to the Long House and continue with the rest of the night activities there. [Photo courtesy of Nuffnang]

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

The last game we had was Charades and it was really funny because we came out with some really funny moves that were totally unrelated to what we were supposed to act about!

From Awana Genting with Nuffnang 2012

Well, the game of Charades very much ended the night on a high note and the mystical feeling at the Long House was simply stunning with the mists and all. We had a light supper before heading to bed and this very much concluded day 1 of our trip to Awana Genting.

I will be publishing Part 2 of the 2D1N Awana Genting Trip blog entry tomorrow so stay tuned! Meanwhile, enjoy the photos and God bless! 🙂

By the time you are reading this Blog entry, I am on a coach to Awana Genting and I will be back on Saturday evening.
I was so elated when I received the news from Nuffnang that I have been selected to go on a sponsored 2 Days 1 Night trip to Awana Genting Highlands Golf & Country Resort [Awana Genting for short]. And well, this is perhaps one of the greatest opportunities that I ever had to rub shoulders with the Elites in the blogosphere.

I believe everyone has heard of Resorts World Genting [RWG for short] and I guess almost everyone I know would have been to RWG at least once or more than that. But if I were to ask how many of you have been to Awana Genting, my guess is only a handful will kee chiu.

Now, what would I exactly be doing at Awana Genting during the 2D1N trip?

From the Email that I received from Nuffnang, I reckoned that there will be tons of outdoor activities that I will be participating in and some of the activities include an ECO Sport Treasure Hunt, a Campfire, and also a BBQ dinner! What’s more, some of us will be sleeping in Awana Genting Long House while some of us will be sleeping in tents!

A picture of the Awana Genting Long House [Credits to Pummkin S Pitch [http://pitch.pummkin.net/?p=2480]]

Sounds really fun and exciting right? This upcoming trip will definitely remind me of my good ol’ camping days in the National Cadet Corps.

Anyhows, being the curious person that I am, I went to “Google” and see if I could find any information about the trip and I chanced upon a few blogs by Malaysian Bloggers whom participated in the trip that was previously organised. While I’m not entirely sure if my itinerary is the same as theirs; I could tell that they really had a lot of fun during the trip.

Since it’s a 2D1N trip, I intend to travel light and here’s what I packed:

1X Insect Repellent
1X Compact Camera and Spare Batteries
1X Torch Light
1X Portable Charger
2X Set of Clothings
1X Mobile Phone
1X Set of Toiletries
1X Towel

I’m not very sure if there will be a stopover at Yong Peng but if there is, I will probably pop by and purchase a Data SIM Card for me to surf the Internet and keep in touch with everyone via Whatsapp, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. So meanwhile, stay tuned and happy weekends everyone!

God bless!

On our last trip to Cing Jing, Taiwan; Baby and I were at the Carton King Souvenir Shop and in case you’re wondering, yes we have blogged about it via the following link:
https://awinsomelife.org/2012/10/05/old-england-manor-carton-king-cingjing/

As mentioned in the blog post, you have to get the souvenirs that Carton King Souvenir Shop is selling! They have a wide variety of souvenirs and there are even souvenirs which you have to make/diy on your own. As a matter of fact, I regretted not buying more souvenirs at Carton King and if I ever do go back there again, I will definitely want to get their humongous DIY Eiffel Tower Standing Light Decoration!

So, after more than 2 months since we returned from our Taiwan trip, we decided to start working on the Mini Windmill Standing Light Decoration that we bought from Taiwan.

To aid us in constructing the Mini Windmill, there was an instruction sheet that contained pictures and short written descriptions of how we should fix the Mini Windmill. The only downside was that the descriptions were written in Chinese.

The most difficult [or should I say tedious] part of constructing the Mini Windmill is poking all these little holes.

And finally, we’re done! Presenting to you the Mini Windmill Standing Light Decoration that we bought from Carton King in Cing Jing, Taiwan.

Well, Carton King also has other Standing Light Decorations that are of other shapes and styles too; so if you’re heading to Cing Jing, do drop by Carton King and check them out!

Stay tuned to more updates from us!

God bless!
