Whether you’re serving your National Service [NS] or have previously served NS, this is an important announcement for all you National Servicemen out there so please read the following information carefully and take the necessary actions to safeguard the rewards that you are eligible for!
Due to your unwavering dedication and service to the Nation, the Ministry of Defence [MINDEF] will be giving you the opportunity to enjoy SAFRA Benefits with your family members.

From now till April 2013, please look out for your NS45 eligibility letters in the mail [yes, snail mail] because you’ll get to enjoy shopping, F&B, IT/gadgets and travel benefits at 5,000 outlets islandwide! Make sure you register for your NS45 SAFRA Vouchers by 28 February 2014 as the Vouchers are only valid until 30 March 14 [I know you have till 2014 to register but it is better to register for them early so that you can get the vouchers early and use them early].

From NS45 SAFRA 2013

Here is a table showing you the amount/value of SAFRA Vouchers that you may be entitled to.

From NS45 SAFRA 2013

In addition, as you have seen from the table above, National Servicemen who are currently serving Operationally Ready National Service (ORNS), or who have completed their ORNS training cycle in full, will also be offered a free SAFRA Membership for one year. Now, being a SAFRA Member is AWESOME because you and your family members will get to enjoy tons of additional privileges and benefits on top of the vouchers that you will be receiving.

To find out what are the various privileges and benefits you get as a SAFRA Member, check out the following link:
http://www.safra.sg/Indulge/Overview.aspx

As I am entitled to SGD $80 worth of SAFRA Vouchers and a free one year SAFRA Membership, here’s what I would do!

1). Since Baby have always wanted to check out the Adventure Cove Waterpark and S.E.A Aquarium at the Resorts World Sentosa, I might use the Vouchers to offset the price of 2 Admission Tickets for the Adventure Cove Waterpark and S.E.A Aquarium at the Resorts World Sentosa. So instead of paying SGD $116, I just have to pay SGD $36!

From NS45 SAFRA 2013

OR

2). To celebrate our monthsary, I might plan a romantic date by using the vouchers to treat Baby and myself to an awesome movie experience at Shaw IMAX which cost SGD $46 and use the rest of the vouchers for a sumptuous-licious dinner at Rocku Yakiniku Japanese Charcoal Grill Restaurant.

Shaw IMAX

OR

3). Use the Vouchers to treat my family members to a sumptuous-licious dinner at SAFRA Toa Payoh’s Kkongdon Korean Barbecue Restaurant.

OR

4). Organise a Karaoke Singing Session with my Army Buddies at SAFRA Toa Payoh’s KBOX and talk about the good ol’ army days.

[Credits to Street Directory for the Image]

There are certainly so many things I could do with the Vouchers and it is really hard deciding what I should do with it.

Maybe I should just go for Option 1 and then following which, treat my family members to a sumptuous buffet dinner at Park Royal On Beach Road Hotel because SAFRA Members are entitled to one complimentary buffet lunch or dinner with every 3 paying adults; and then after which, gather a few of my Army Buddies for a Karaoke Singing Session and utilise my SAFRA Membership at SAFRA Yishun’s Party World KTV to enjoy a 20% discount off the total bill! Now that’s more like it because I get to kill 3 birds with one stone on a single day!

Party World KTV!

Should I proceed with this plan, I would get to spend some quiet time with Baby and show my appreciation to her for being through thick and thin with me when I enlisted for NS till the day I ORD-ed, and now, serving my Reservist. Also, I could express my gratitude to my family members for their constant support of encouragement during my time as a National Serviceman Fulltime [NSF]. Last but not the least, I get to catch up with my Army Buddies and chill-out with them while singing Karaoke. So, the NS45 SAFRA Vouchers does comes in handy and so does the complimentary 1-year SAFRA Membership.

Anyway, SAFRA does brings NSmen closer together, check out some of the activities and things that you can do at SAFRA via the following link: https://awinsomelife.org/2012/10/28/safra-toa-payoh-openhouse-2012/

So, what are you waiting for?

If you haven’t heard, the LG Optimus G was launched on the 31st of January last month and I was really honoured to have been invited to the launch that took place at Gardens By The Bay.

In the current market, there are a couple of smartphones that are operating on the Android Platform and it can be quite difficult to choose one that will specifically meet your needs. However, with that being said, allow me to introduce you to some of the features [which I found pretty cool] that the LG Optimus G has to offer.

QSlide Function
QSlide Function shows two different screens simultaneously on one display. As it doesn’t show a part of the screen but the entire screen of both functions, the user can complete two tasks concurrently – such as sending a text message or searching the web while watching a video.

Dual Screen Dual Play
Dual Screen Dual Play not only allows mirroring between the smartphone and a TV, it also has the ability to display different content on each screen wirelessly. For example, a slide presentation can be displayed on the TV while the Optimus G shows the accompanying speaking notes.

Snapdragon S4 Pro Processor
The latest & best quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro Processor from Qualcomm enables Optimus G to power multiple apps quickly and display realistic high resolution images. It is 30% faster than the normal quad-core. Have the power to push the latest graphic intensive games to their limit.

As there wasn’t any opportunity for me to test and try-out the product and use it for a month; [unlike the previous LG Optimus 4xHD Launch], my experience of using the phone is only limited to what I saw, what I heard, and what I touched during the LG Optimus G Smartphone Launch. For a very comprehensive review of the LG Optimus G Smartphone, check out Asia Cnet’s review of the LG Optimus G Smartphone via the following link: http://asia.cnet.com/product/lg-optimus-g-46728201.htm

If you are thinking of getting a smartphone and you want to breakaway from the Apple or Samsung crowd, you might want to consider getting the LG Optimus G Smartphone.

Valentine’s Day is today and having planned for this very day three weeks ago, I am really happy that my effort is going to be paid off today. By the way, in case you’re wondering, this Blog Entry has been scheduled to be published at this time such that Baby doesn’t know that it is all a surprise. 🙂
Well, I have been thinking of doing something personalised for Baby and because I made a Heart-Shaped Swiss Roll Cake last December, I decided to bake her a Heart-Shaped Chocolate Chiffon Cake for this Valentine’s Day.

This was the Heart-Shaped Swiss Roll Cake that I made last December. Not sure if anybody wants the recipe but I will probably blog about it when I have the time.

From Heart Shaped Swiss Roll Cake 2012

& this is the Heart-Shaped Chocolate Chiffon Cake that I made to celebrate Valentine’s Day with Baby.

From Valentine’s Day 2013

Again, I’m not very sure whether I would want to blog about how I made the Heart-Shaped Chocolate Chiffon Cake and I will probably do so if there are tons of people asking me for the recipe.

Besides the Surprise Heart-Shaped Chocolate Chiffon Cake, Baby and I are having our Valentine’s Day Dinner at LENAS [Serangoon NeX] and a Bottle of our favourite Moscato D’Asti to go along with our dinner. So romantic right?! [hehe]. If you’re wondering why we chose to go to LENAS, it’s because we absolutely loved the place, the food, and the people.

We have blogged about LENAS before so you can check out our review via the following link: https://awinsomelife.org/2011/08/18/lenas-restaurant-nex/

Also, we have blogged about our favourite bottle of Moscato D’Asti by G.D Vajra and you can find out more about it via the following link: https://awinsomelife.org/2012/12/02/we-have-a-bottle-of-moscato-dasti-g-d-vajra-to-giveaway/

What’s Valentine’s Day without gifts right? So during the third day of Chinese New Year [while Baby was still sleeping soundly in bed], I headed over to Raffles’ Cards n Such to buy NICI’s Jolly Mah Sheep Bride and Groom.

I’m pretty sure she will love this gift a lot because we have a whole lot of NICI Plush Toys in my room! This is our current collection of NICI’s Jolly Mah [their Sheep Community]. They are really cute and we have even named them!

From Valentine’s Day 2013

By the way, the NICI Jolly Mah Sheep Bride and Groom was the one and only pair that was available at Raffles’ Cards n Such and I am really glad that I gotten it just in time for this occasion! They have a whole range of other NICI products too and this is perhaps the best place to hunt for NICI’s Plush Toys!

From Valentine’s Day 2013

Well, I’m pretty sure Valentine’s Day will be a blast and since this Blog Entry is a surprise as well, here’s my declaration of love for her:

Dearest Baby,

thank you for all the sacrifices that you’ve made. From the first day I met you, I knew that you were the one for me. Having gone through so much in our relationship over the last two years, I really do treasure and cherish the time that we spend together. I still remember those days when I was still in Officer Cadet School [OCS] during National Service [NS] and how you would always come over to my place to prepare with me, the cyalume sticks and dummy grenades that I need for my outfield training. In every milestones of my life, whether its NS, OCS, or ORD; you were there with me and I really appreciate having you in my life.

You have taught and shown me what “it is more blessed to give than to receive” means and because of you, I have also learnt the importance of finance management. Well, on this Valentine’s Day, I hope that you like what I have prepared for you and I look forward to spending the rest of my life with you, every single day, every single minute. Happy Valentine’s Day! Love you!

With Much Love,
dEaRdEaR

God bless!

Valentine’s Day is just 11 days away and for most couples like us, Valentine’s Day is a rather special day for us to spend lavishly and shower our loved ones with gifts of love, gratitude and appreciation. So, I have been thinking really hard about how I am going to plan a romantic Valentine’s Day Date with Baby and to begin with, I started embarking on the hunt for flowers!
Before I begin; in my honest opinion, flowers are a perfect gift for the ladies; unless of course, she is one whom don’t really fancy flowers. But truly, flowers does brighten up a person’s mood [especially ladies] and it is a perfect gift for ladies to receive. What’s more, your other half will definitely be the envy of others; especially in an office setting!

Well, I am no newbie when it comes to ordering bouquet of flowers on the Internet and so far, Humming is the only online flower retail shop that left the most positive impression on me. The last time I placed an order from Humming was just 5 months ago when I wanted to give Baby a really sweet surprise and well, it was a really pleasant surprise for her indeed. I got her the “In Love With You” by Humming and it consists of a Me To You “Love” Cushion Tatty Teddy in a bed of beautiful Roses and Statices.

The Me to You Teddy Bear is just so adorable right?!

From Humming Valentine’s Day 2013

Baby named the Me to You Teddy Bear as Love Bear!

From Humming Valentine’s Day 2013

This time round, Humming was really kind to sponsor me a bouquet of flowers from their latest Valentine’s Day Collection that they have launched and I placed an order for the “Precious Petals” hand bouquet. The “Precious Petals” hand bouquet consists of 4 Stalks of Pink Roses, 4 Stalks of Bandung Roses, and 4 Stalks of Red Roses with Pink Hydrangea and because there are 12 Stalks of Roses in total, it basically meant “Be Mine” or “Heart to Heart” in the language of flowers. So, this is a perfect hand bouquet to give to a girl if you’re planning to ask her to be your girlfriend.

From Humming Valentine’s Day 2013

The bouquet of flowers that I placed an order for arrived at the stipulated date and time and well, Baby was really surprised that she rang me up and asked why she received a bouquet of flowers when it was not even nearing our monthsary! So guys, the lesson here is that if you’re planning to throw a surprise for your girlfriend, do it randomly so that it catches her off guard. 🙂

The Romance Torch that ignites the Flames of Love; so strong and fiery that I was so stunned!

I really wonder…

Well, for all the gentlemen out there, if you’re planning to propose to your girlfriend on Valentine’s Day, Humming’s “99 Kisses” is the best hand bouquet to give with the proposal ring! Not only will it attract the greatest attention, but you outrightly declare to the whole world that you will love your [fiancee-to-be/wife-to-be] till you die! So, if you’re searching for a 99-roses hand bouquet for proposal, you can consider’s Humming’s “99 Kisses”!

If you have been following our previous posts about how we setup a small cosy corner in my bedroom, you would have read about the carpet that we bought from Qoo10 and the DIY furniture that we bought from Ikea. If you haven’t, you might like to check out the following links:

Setting Up My Very Own Cosy Corner [Ikea]

In this blog entry, we will be blogging about how we used die cut wall stickers to beautify the walls of my cosy corner!

The first time Baby and I saw wall stickers was when we were holidaying in Taipei, Taiwan at Raohe Night Market. It was a pity we didn’t buy them because they were rather cheap as compared to the ones we bought from Johor Bahru, Malaysia. If you shop around in KSL Shopping Mall or City Square in Johor Bahru, you should be able to find some small retail shops that are selling wall stickers.

Anyways, if you’re planning to beautify your walls, wall stickers can be a great alternative to painting or even sticking wallpapers. However, before you shop for suitable wall stickers for your wall, the most important thing you must do is to measure the length and height of your wall. By doing so, you will then be able to gauge the size of the wall stickers you should get.

For my cosy corner, we chose this particular design because the dimensions fitted the length and height of my wall. Not only that, I could even feature my family photos on the wall as part of the design as well. For your information, this particular design that we chose cost us around SGD$50+ and you might be able to get it at a much better price on Qoo10.

From Wall Stickers 2012

Also, before you purchase any wall stickers, check with the retailer or the seller where the wall stickers come from/are manufactured. If it is from Korea and/or Taiwan, you can safely buy it. If it is from other countries, you might want to consider your purchase carefully because certain wall stickers from certain countries are of low quality and low quality wall stickers may damage your wall.

This was how the wall of my cosy corner look like before the wall stickers were pasted.

From Wall Stickers 2012

The wall stickers will come in a roll and you will have to cut out the individual pieces bit by bit using the scissors.

From Wall Stickers 2012

Here’s Baby cutting out the individual pieces of wall stickers.

From Wall Stickers 2012
From Wall Stickers 2012

After cutting out the individual pieces of the wall stickers, Baby and I pasted the wall stickers onto the wall using a masking tape so as to gauge the positions of where we should paste the wall stickers.

From Wall Stickers 2012
From Wall Stickers 2012

Knowing more or less how and where we’re going to paste the wall stickers, we removed the protective film and pasted the wall stickers permanently onto the wall.

We slowly added the leaves one by one to the tree and viola!

From Wall Stickers 2012

Well, the only thing that is missing right now are the photos which I am going to put up and personally, we really like the design that we chose for the wall stickers. So, if you’re wondering how you can beautify and/or decorate your wall, wall stickers might just be the thing for you.

And oh, wall stickers can be easily removed without leaving any stains on the wall or causing any damage to the paintwork on your wall. 🙂

Well, having said so much about wall stickers, are you interested in winning a set of 5 Sticky Ties that you can stick onto your cars or just on any glass surface? If you are interested, do check out our current blog giveaway and submit your entries as soon as possible because our giveaway will end in 18 days time! Stay tuned to more updates from us!

God bless!

I was just browsing my Facebook Wall one day and I spotted a rather interesting post that was put up by one of my friend, Timothy. Being the usual curious me, I went to check out Timothy’s post and was pleasantly surprised to find out that he is starting a mini business and is on the way to becoming an aspiring entrepreneur in the making!
Timothy’s business, Sticky Ties, is a range of family decal stickers that offers a wide range of character personalities. It is a family decal concept that Timothy gotten while he was studying in Australia. In fact, it was a simple idea which became a craze in which every 2 in 5 cars on the Australian road has family decals pasted at the rear windscreen.

From Sticky Ties 2012

Seeing that family decal stickers were quite a hit in Australia, Timothy decided to introduce the concept in Singapore and “localised” the designs for the family decal stickers that are being sold here in Singapore.

Now, what I really found interesting about Sticky Ties Family Decals are that individuals like me can express ourselves and our families through the wide variety of Sticky Ties Family Decals choices that are available and simply apply them on our cars. For instance, to represent me, I could either choose the Beer Sticky Tie, the Working Sticky Tie, or the Simple Sticky Tie; and to represent my Fiancee, she could choose the Working Sticky Tie, the Shopaholic Sticky Tie, or the Simple Sticky Tie.

From Sticky Ties 2012

If you have a bigger family and/or you have kids/teenagers, you can choose the Simple Sticky Tie, the Army Sticky Tie, the Princess Sticky Tie, and etc.! As a matter of fact, you can choose any of the Sticky Ties to best represent your personality/character/interests/hobbies!

From Sticky Ties 2012

The best part about Sticky Ties Family Decals are their durability.  Made of 100% outdoor-rated vinyl, they will not wear and tear easily and will last for many years. They are self-adhesive, UV resistant and waterproof and are thus suitable even in Singapore’s extreme hot and wet weather. Not only that, Sticky Ties Family Decals are also easily removable, leaving no marks or residues behind.

From Sticky Ties 2012

Well, if you don’t own a car, you can still use Sticky Ties Family Decals on surfaces such as windows, books, files, walls, mailbox, or just on any clean and flat surface! Of course, glass surfaces are the best for applying Sticky Ties Family Decals on.

From Sticky Ties 2012

To check out the wide collection of Sticky Ties Family Decals that Sticky Ties are offering, you can visit their website via the following link: http://www.mystickyties.com

In fact, Sticky Ties are now offering a 30% discount + free shipping [but for a limited time only]!

From Sticky Ties 2012

More designs are currently in the pipelines and Timothy is working with his designers to double the number of designs for the Sticky Ties Family Decals in the next few months. Some of which will include pets, babies and maybe even couple sets where the designs are drawn as a pair [something like newly-wedded couples].

Well, if you’re looking for ways to accessorize/beautify your car, you might want to consider getting the Sticky Ties Family Decals. They are really perfect as gifts and they are a great way of expressing your family/personality/character/hobbies/interests!

From Sticky Ties 2012

If you want to head down to the stores and purchase them, they are currently only available at Anchor Point, #B1-11. The address of Anchor Point is 370 Alexandra Road, Singapore (159953).

From Sticky Ties 2012

Here’s a very good piece of news for all of you readers! Sticky Ties has gladly partnered with us in organising an exclusive giveaway just for all you readers. In fact, 5 lucky winners will stand to win 1 set of 5 different designs of Sticky Ties that are graciously sponsored by Sticky Ties. All you have to do is just go to the following link: https://awinsomelife.org/current-blog-giveaway/

As a matter of fact, I regretted not buying more souvenirs at Carton King and if I ever do go back there again, I will definitely want to get their humongous DIY Eiffel Tower Standing Light Decoration!

So, after more than 2 months since we returned from our Taiwan trip, we decided to start working on the Mini Windmill Standing Light Decoration that we bought from Taiwan.

To aid us in constructing the Mini Windmill, there was an instruction sheet that contained pictures and short written descriptions of how we should fix the Mini Windmill. The only downside was that the descriptions were written in Chinese.

The tiny bits and pieces of cardboard pieces that made a difference as to how our Mini Windmill will look like.

The most difficult [or should I say tedious] part of constructing the Mini Windmill is poking all these little holes.

And finally, we’re done! Presenting to you the Mini Windmill Standing Light Decoration that we bought from Carton King in Cing Jing, Taiwan.

Well, Carton King also has other Standing Light Decorations that are of other shapes and styles too; so if you’re heading to Cing Jing, do drop by Carton King and check them out!
