Hello Everyone,
Baby and I caught The Bourne Legacy yesterday at Bishan Golden Village and the theatre was almost fully packed [less the first two rows of seats] despite it being a 2240 hours movie. Anyway, The Bourne Legacy is the 4th film of The Bourne Series and while I haven’t caught the previous 3 Bourne Films before, the movie was somehow still understandable.

Movie Plot [as extracted from Golden Village]:

The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy. The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films.

For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprise their roles.

Movie Review:

Honestly, like I mentioned, I have not caught the previous 3 Bourne Films before and while I was watching The Bourne Legacy, there were some aspects of the movie that I would not have understand if I haven’t done a bit of read-up on Wikipedia about the film. Hence, movie-goers might have a hard time understanding the film if its their first time watching a Bourne Film. The beginning of the movie was pretty much boring and confusing because there was a lot of “jumping” around from scenes to scenes. However, from the middle portion of the film towards the end, things get slightly interesting. Out of a rating of 5, I would probably rate it a 2.5; so you might want to consider saving up the money to catch The Expendables 2 instead.

Hello Everyone,
on the 5th of July, we received an email from Daniel Ang [a blogger of Daniel’s Food Diary] to participate in the #CookForFamily initiative that he was organising.

So, what is the #CookForFamily initiative all about [as quoted from Daniel]?

Well, there is this saying that goes like this, “A family that eats together stays together.” In recent times, many people have moved from cooking and eating at home, to eating out because we are just too busy. I am guilty of this and seriously, nothing beats home-cooked food because home-cooked food are healthier, cleaner, and nutritious! Most importantly, eating together as one big family brings about joy, quality bonding, and better relationships. I will always remember [how during my teenage years] my mum would whip up wholesome and delicious dinner for the whole family and also [how during my BMT days] she would prepare some tonic soups for me to boost my immune system. Those were the times that I truly miss the most and I really wonder, will our future generation of kids/youths be as privileged as we were to experience this sort of warm homely feeling? Personally, I will make sure that my future children get to enjoy as much home-cooked food as I had in the past. What about you?

Anyway, the #CookForFamily is a bloggers-for-bloggers initiative. There are no competition, sponsors, or hidden agenda involved. In fact, the initiative was started with a simple objective of getting more bloggers, and hopefully their fans and followers, to start cooking for their families and spend some quality family time.

Our #CookForFamily Experience
And so, Baby and I decided to cook for her mother, sister, and brother-in-law on the 29th of July 2012 (Sunday). We planned a simple 4-course meal that consisted of the following:

+Side Dishes/Appetisers+

Stir-Fried Egg with Radish

Cream of Mushroom Soup

+Main Course+

Black Pepper Chicken Chop

+Dessert+

Ok, this was the plan but never did we knew that Baby’s mother had whipped up some dishes as well. So, our #CookForFamily plan also became a #CookWithFamily plan. These were the dishes that Baby’s mum whipped up:

Behind-The-Scenes

Alright, here are the photos that Baby took while I was preparing the dishes.

To make the Milo Tiramisu, we first prepare 3 cups of hot sweetened coffee. For us, we used 3X 3-in-1 NesCafe and mixed it with hot water. Ensure that they are thoroughly stirred. Once done, leave it to cool.

From Cook For Family 2012

Next, you will need two fresh eggs. Separate the egg yolks from the egg whites into two different bowls.

From Cook For Family 2012
From Cook For Family 2012

Then, standby 60 grams of sugar.

From Cook For Family 2012

Next, take the 250g of mascarpone cheese and put it into the mixing bowl, and add the two egg yolks in as well.

From Cook For Family 2012

Stir the mixture [mascarpone cheese cheese and egg yolks] vigorously.

From Cook For Family 2012
From Cook For Family 2012

And make sure that the end product is creamy yellow in colour.

From Cook For Family 2012

Once that is done, leave the mixture aside and begin to beat the egg whites. Make sure the end result is something like a stiff white foam.

From Cook For Family 2012

When that is done, slowly lather the [stiff egg white foam] into the mixture [egg yolks and mascarpone cheese] and mix all of them together and ensure that you have a creamy white texture.

Now, take the ladyfingers, dip it into the cooled coffee [make sure the ladyfingers are soaked entirely with the coffee] and place it in a container.

From Cook For Family 2012

When the first layer is completed, pour some of the mixture [stiff egg white foam + egg yolks and mascarpone cheese] over the ladyfingers and make sure that it covers every corners of the ladyfingers and container.

From Cook For Family 2012

Once done, do the same for the second layer.

Finally, sprinkle some milo/cocoa power over the top layer and leave the whole tray in the refrigerator to chill.

From Cook For Family 2012

When cut, the cross-section of the tiramisu cake should look like this [doesn’t look appetising but taste superbly good].

For the Black Pepper Chicken Chop, we used our newly bought HappyCall Jumbo Pan!

From Cook For Family 2012

All we needed to do was just heat up the HappyCall Jumbo Pan and then put the already marinated chicken thighs. Oh, and this is an extremely important point, we didn’t use any oil at all!

From Cook For Family 2012
From Cook For Family 2012

That’s me posing for a shot.

From Cook For Family 2012

Allow it to cook for about 20 minutes until the chicken is firm and tender. When done, turn off the flame and close the lid to keep the chicken warm.

For the Stir-Fried Egg with Radish, we used the Happycall Jumbo Pan as well! And yes, we didn’t use any oil at all because there were some left-over oil from the chicken that we cooked. All that is needed to be done is to beat 3-4 eggs together and pour the mixture into the heated Happycall Jumbo Pan. Then, add the radish on top and wait for it to be cooked.

From Cook For Family 2012

The end product should look something like this.

From Cook For Family 2012

When cooked, plate the Stir-Fried Egg with Radish accordingly. Here’s Baby and her mum in action!

The Cream of Mushroom Soup was perhaps the easiest dish to prepare. All we had to do was to pour 2 cans of Campbells’ Cream of Mushroom Soup into a pot, add two cans of plain water, stir the mixture together, and turn up the flame.

From Cook For Family 2012

Initially, we wanted to prepare the Cream of Mushroom Soup from scratch but due to a lack of time, we decided against it. When the soup has been boiled and not clumpy, turn off the flame and the soup can now be served.

Anyway, here’s a movie review of Batman- The Dark Knight Rises in case you haven’t caught the movie yet.

Movie Plot [as extracted from Golden Village]:
Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises” is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, Leading an all-star international cast, Oscar(R) winner Christian Bale (“The Fighter”) again plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, as Selina Kyle; Tom Hardy, as Bane; Oscar(R) winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”), as Miranda Tate; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as John Blake. Returning to the main cast, Oscar(R) winner Michael Caine (“The Cider House Rules”) plays Alfred; Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon; and Oscar(R) winner Morgan Freeman (“Million Dollar Baby”) reprises the role of Lucius Fox. The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster “The Dark Knight.” The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

Movie Review:
The movie is about 2 hours and 45 minutes long and personally, we felt that the movie was of the right duration [not too long and not too short]. We have heard some people lamenting how boring the movie was, especially from my brother but seriously, it wasn’t as boring as what most people would say because from our point of view, the story build-up was consistent and every scenes in the movie were coordinated pretty well. Yes, we do agree that there wasn’t much heart-pumping action as compared to The Amazing Spiderman but what we really like best about the movie were the emotions that the actors in the movie managed to portray. Indeed there were also some lessons that we could learn from the movie and these lessons brought to our mind the morality of society, the consequences of decisions we make daily in our lives, and to question the ethics of business and politics. Either way, the movie had a fabulous closing/ending to the installment of the Batman series and after all these years of growing up with the Batman series, we really would miss Batman. Who knows, there might perhaps be a new series featuring Robin instead of Batman?

Hello Everyone,
in March 2012, we actually put up an article about the Career Fair 2012 that was organised by the Singapore Professional Centre and the IIR Exhibitions Private Limited and we wrote about how we felt at the fair and what we encountered. You can check out the blog entry here –> https://awinsomelife.org/2012/03/04/career-2012-a-career-fair-suntec-city-convention-centre-1-4-march-2012/

That same month also saw another career fair that was organised by JobsDB.com but we did not attend that one because we felt that the job fairs organised were rather similar in nature [especially in the quality of job offerings and education exhibits].

Recently, we received an invitation from ST Jobs to check out their career fair that took place on 28 and 29 July 2012 at the Suntec Convention Centre, and we decided to check it out because it is ST Job’s first career fair. Before we even attended the fair, we were quite apprehensive about what was being offered at the job fair but when we saw the sponsors whom were sponsoring the event, I was very much convinced that this job fair is going to be an extraordinary one.

Here’s why:

1). The sponsors that sponsored the event came from various fields and industries, and besides the usual insurance companies that were major sponsors for the event, government ministries and government bodies [such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Home Team Academy, PSA, and SMRT] were also sponsors for the event! Some other well-known companies that also sponsored the event were Halliburton, Rome, McDonalds, Micron, Marigold, Nescafe, and Walton.

2). A look at their exhibitor list revealed a whole list of participating organisations that offered quite a number of job opportunities as compared to previous job fairs organised by others. To see the exhibitors for the event, you can check it out here –> http://www.stjobs.sg/fair/index.php?c=exhibitor

3). While we were there, despite the rigid registration process, the flow was seamless and smooth. As the career fair only allowed Singaporeans and PRs to be admitted and also foreigners with valid working passes [on a separate day], this was certainly an ideal situation as these measures filtered away foreigners whom were on social visit passes. This in turn would benefit employers because in previous job fairs, admission was open to the general public.

4). The whole venue was segmented clearly as the booths were arranged into sectors belonging to a particular industry. So, if a prospective candidate is seeking for a position in a Food and Beverage industry, he/she can check out the various Food and Beverage companies without having to walk all over the place.

5). Last but not the least, there were fringe activities organised and candidates seeking for jobs could actually participate in these activities so as to find out more about themselves [in terms of personality, suitable careers, strengths, weaknesses and etc.], enrich themselves through the various talks conducted by well-known speakers from established companies, and even learn how to dress themselves up so as to create a lasting first impression.

I would really love to put up some pictures/photos to prove my point but unfortunately, as I was rushing for time, I didn’t really have the opportunity to take any photos. I have tried searching for a photo gallery on ST Jobs Facebook Page and the ST Jobs Career Fair website but to no avail. They really should consider having one so that bloggers like myself can grab pictures and put it up on our blog.

Conclusion:

Overall, attending the ST Jobs Career and Development Fair 2012 has been quite a positive experience for me because it is very different from other job fairs that were organised. The quality and variety of jobs that are offered at the ST Jobs Career and Development Fair 2012 are pretty good as well. If you’re looking for a job, this is one career fair that you should look out for in future. Employers seeking for avenues to advertise their job opportunities might want to consider placing ads on ST Jobs Website because I personally have seen for myself how ST Jobs have revamped and re-positioned itself to compete against its competitors [such as Jobscentral, Jobstreet, and JobsDB]. Truly, I believe ST Jobs will become the top recruiting site for many years to come. It sure looks like Jobscentral, Jobstreet, and JobsDB have a lot of catching up to do [especially in the organisation of career/job fairs] if they want to remain relevant and competitive.

The next job fair that will be taking place on the 25 and 26 August 2012 at Suntec Convention Centre [Hall 403 and Hall 404] is organised by Jobscentral. I’m not sure if I will be attending it but looking at their list of sponsors and employers, I’m thinking twice now. You can check it out here –> http://jobscentral.com.sg/careerfair/main/sponsors

Hello Everyone,
thanks to Nuffnang and Disney Studios Singapore, Baby and I had the opportunity to catch the gala premiere of the movie, “Brave” at the Grand Cathay.

Having collected the tickets, we headed to the washroom to freshen ourselves up and we kinda like the way they put up the Male & Female toilet posters to indicate the direction to the Male & Female toilets respectively.

From Brave Movie Gala 2012

This particular movie premiere that we attended was unlike many of the ones we attended before. In fact, there were games organised before the movie premiere and well, Baby and I had a go at some of the game stations.

So.. there’s this mini Tug-of-War station that only can accommodate a maximum of 4 players.

Movie Review:

Baby and I felt that the movie was fantastic and it is very family-oriented. As such, the movie is quite suitable for children and it is perfect for family gatherings/outings especially during the upcoming National Day. I am not sure if teenagers would fancy this sort of movie but Baby and I enjoyed it alot. Also, the movie teaches children about values and we feel that it is an ideal movie for wholesome content. If you are looking for a movie to watch during the upcoming National Day, do check out the movie, “Brave“! By the way, the movie will only be released on the 8th of August 2012.

Movie Trailer:

Movie Plot [extracted from Golden Village]:

Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In “Brave,” a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Woman (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.

First and foremost, I am really glad to hear that the government is really open and serious about engaging the public on the population challenges that Singapore faces. Hence, I will do my part by sharing my own personal views on this subject matter and I hope that as a result of my sharing, various ideas can be taken into consideration and certain matters can be taken seriously so as to achieve the objective of making Singapore a place that we can truly call home.
Background
Being a true blue Singaporean born in the 1980s era, I have noticed and witnessed for myself how Singapore have transformed itself and the emergence of issues that we face especially in this new decade. Through frequent discussions and conversations with my peers, friends, and colleagues, what I share here might be reflective of how other locals may feel and I warmly welcome inputs and constructive criticisms and/or suggestions.

The Conversations and Discussions
Through my frequent interactions with peers of my age, friends born in the 1980s, and colleagues whom either belong to the 1960s/1970s era or the 2000s generation, there were a few common points that were mentioned and they are as follows:
• Locals generally do not feel a sense of belonging to the country anymore.
• The high influx of foreigners has a social impact on locals as reported in the many recent cases of locals having conflicts with foreigners.
• Locals have a sense of insecurity due to the competition for jobs, education, and housing.
• Locals are unhappy with the efficiency of basic infrastructures such as the congestion of public transportation which also brings along with it frequent breakdowns and delays, the long-waiting time for healthcare services in polyclinics and hospitals, and the worsening telecommunications network where telephone companies are not meeting its service standards such as delivering what it promises.

Of course, there are also other nitty-gritty issues that were brought out such as the rising costs of Certificate of Entitlement (COE) for cars and the recent high-profile scandals involving civil servants but essentially, it is important to address issues which are more foundational in nature.

The Present Situation from a Citizen’s Point of View
Locals today have a sense of resentment towards foreigners and I am not even surprised at all. With a huge influx of foreigners taking up Singapore Citizenships (SC) and Permanent Residencies (PR), there has been quite a lot of discontentment amongst the locals here, especially when the locals deemed it unfair and felt that the immigration policies were lax. The whole situation actually worsened especially when the needs of locals are not met and basic infrastructures are not efficient enough to meet the demands of an already overwhelming population.

The very essentials of human needs are housing, education, transportation, healthcare, and a career. These are the basics of what constitutes a person’s life and/or threshold requirements. However, when one of these needs is compromised, a sense of insecurity ensues and there is a pressing need to address these issues.

Competition for Housing, Jobs, and Education
With the influx of new SC and PR, there has been a huge demand for housing, jobs, and education. This is quite evident when we see newly launched Housing Development Board (HDB) Build-To-Order (BTO) projects oversubscribed, job vacancies declining, and locals competing for limited vacancies in neighbourhood schools. With these issues, this has led locals to become insecure about the government’s policies and also led to distrust as locals felt that the government was not looking after their interests.

Inefficiency of Basic Infrastructure such as Transportation, Healthcare, and Other Essentials
Transportation and telecommunication companies are generally controlled and/or regulated by the government even though they have been privatized. Hence, there tends to be a connection between government and these companies when the companies in question are not performing up to expectations. It is important that the government ensure that the local’s quality of life are not compromised and manage the costs and issues of these infrastructures accordingly such that it does not add on to the costs of living unnecessarily. In the eyes of the locals, when the costs of the infrastructure goes up, they expect better services and better returns and/or benefits. If expectations are not met, then discontentment will arise.

The Present Situation from a Government’s Point of View
It is without a doubt that Singapore will eventually experience the challenges of a shrinking and ageing workforce coupled together with the low local birth rates and longer life expectancies. With this, it is almost for sure that Singapore will need to continue taking in foreigners so as to sustain the current rapid development. Since this is the case, there are a few questions that need to be addressed:

• How much foreigners are truly enough to sustain the current pace of development?
• Has the government considered the social impact on locals due to the influx of foreigners?
• How can the social impact on locals be minimised due to the influx of foreigners?

It is widely-known that locals shun certain jobs in certain industry because of long working hours, low salary, and poor working conditions. Is there a solution to solve this problem besides employing foreigners in these positions? Well, I’m pretty sure there are lots of solutions to entice the locals to work in these positions such as providing a slightly higher salary.

While taking in foreigners may help to alleviate the situation temporarily, it is important to explore a more permanent solution to mitigate the long-term effects of having too many foreigners in Singapore.

What could be done?
Locals today are more educated and they have higher aspirations for their future. Hence, most locals tend to get married at a later age, resulting in lower birth rates due to the passing of the child-bearing age. Starting a family should be one of those aspirations but apparently it is not so.

To increase the locals’ birthrate, more ought to be done to engage locals born in the 1980s and beyond. While there have been many incentives and/or bonuses scheme offered to locals, not many locals are fully aware of these benefits. A booklet on all the available schemes could perhaps be distributed to locals at various stages of their life or a one-stop service centre be created to monitor the local’s utilization of these schemes. Besides communicating these benefits to the locals, it is also important to communicate these schemes to their employers as well. What the government supports and encourages may not be fully supported nor welcomed by the local Small Medium Enterprises (SME) or foreign Multi-National Corporations (MNC). Hence, incentives or benefits could be looked into to recognise companies that promote healthy work-life balance and carry out pro-family initiatives.

A change in the locals’ mindset is also necessary as well. Parenthood is a big responsibility and there may be many locals whom are just not prepared to take that big step of faith. More assistance could be given in this aspect where locals are introduced to the concept of family planning and parenting. With the recent trends in social media, bloggers whom are parents themselves could play a large role by sharing their parenting experience and parenting skills with those whom are planning start a family.

While all these benefits, schemes, and tools are in place to promote an increase in birthrates, the objective may not be fully realised and/or achieved as there might be other contributing factors at play. Using the animals as an example, animals only mate when certain conditions are fulfilled; be it internally or externally. While locals may prepare themselves mentally, physically, and emotionally for the process of procreation, the external environment must be fully ready and prepared as well. If the external conditions are not optimum, then procreation is likely not to take place no matter how prepared an individual is on the inside. This external environment that I am referring to is the satisfaction and happiness of the locals in Singapore. The government needs to ask themselves the following questions:

• Are the locals happy and satisfied with the current environmental conditions to want to make Singapore their permanent home?
• How can a harmonious and cohesive society be built with the influx of foreigners?

Many locals do agree with me that our uniquely Singaporean way of life is slowly losing its identity and that is especially true as the influx of foreigners are slowly melting away our uniqueness. How can we then still be uniquely Singaporean while at the same time, inject new SC and PR with the DNA of the locals? Truly, this will take quite some time and a compromise must be reached between the locals and the new SC and PR. Are the locals prepared to do that? Are the new SC and PR willing to put down their old former life and adapt to the new way of living in Singapore?

It is important that we as Singaporeans rediscover our roots, our culture, and our way of life. The old heritage and history lessons of Singapore ought not to be forgotten but rather, still strongly emphasized in our education and teaching of the young. It is with this that I really hope that Singapore in the next 5 years and beyond can become a place where all of us can truly call our home. OR, will we be like what my parents always said to my brothers and I, “Singapore has no more opportunities available. The cost of living is rising and foreigners are soon taking over the place of Singaporeans. It is better that you all immigrate to other countries where there may be more opportunities.” I hope this is not the case.

Stay tuned to more updates from us!

And now, I shall move on to blog about the Singapore Blog Awards 2012.

It was my first time attending the Singapore Blog Awards 2012 and I must say, the Singapore Blogging Scene is becoming a rather big deal. There were tons of Bloggers at the event and the organisers [OMY.SG] did a really tremendous job in managing the whole event [despite some hiccups].

So despite the sweltering heat from the hot sun, all of us were so enthusiastic about the event. Just look at all the wonderful bloggers!

From SBA 2012
From SBA 2012

As the theme of the event was, “Superheroes”, all of us bloggers were strongly encouraged to dress up in Superheroes costumes! Well, I came dressed up in a Superman Tee-Shirt but some bloggers were really fantastic; they came dressed up in elaborate costumes and it was awesome!

From SBA 2012

Look at all the goodie bags that were specially prepared for us! There’s one thing I really like in the goodie bag and its a “The Dark Knight Rises” cup from Domino’s Pizza.

From SBA 2012

The team from OMY.SG were really putting in their best effort to ensure that the event was managed successfully despite sleepless nights. They truly are the Superheroes of the event because if not for them, this event would not have been possible.

From SBA 2012

Oh, and there’s the really cool photo booth where we could take photos using the props that were provided.

Check out the ladies whom were prepping themselves to do a catwalk in front of the audience!

From SBA 2012

And the winner of the catwalk competition goes to Charmaine a.k.a Kiyo!

From SBA 2012

The Emcees for the day did a really fantastic job in hosting the event!

From SBA 2012

Here’s the Minister for Education giving his opening address. I really like the part where he said that social media is a rising trend and that bloggers provide the community with a wealth of information that could bring about a positive transformation in the society. Whether we are blogging about food, hotels, travel, study tips, or even parenting skills, these are information that could make us more aware of how we could do things better!

From SBA 2012

And so.. the awards presentation began and here’s Kevin receiving the “Best Online Shopping Blog” award.

From SBA 2012

Why do I take a photo of Kevin and not the rest of the bloggers who won awards as well? That’s because I only know Kevin personally and not the rest mahs. =P

Here’s Dr Jiajia and Big Bro winning the “Best V-Log” award.

From SBA 2012

Ok, I do not know Dr Jiajia and Big Bro personally but I wished I had the opportunity to take a photography with them during the Singapore Blog Awards 2012. They really make fantastic funny videos that really brighten up my day. I am pretty sure most of you would remember the ever-popular “Kee Chiu” video. If you haven’t watch it, I have embedded it in this blog entry.

I also like another video that they have created. Check the following out…

I am pretty sure you must have gotten a good laugh. These two boys really deserve the award and I really am impressed with all their videos. Well, do show them your support too if you like their videos by following them on Twitter and liking their Facebook Page too!

Here’s a group photo of all the winners of the Singapore Blog Awards 2012! A hearty congratulations to all of them indeed.

From SBA 2012

And yes, there was a best dressed contest too! Check out all the Superheroes decked out in their costumes.

From SBA 2012

So after the awards presentation, all the bloggers were invited to go up the Singapore Flyer and that very much concluded the entire event. Well, I must say, this event totally blew my mind because it was really darn impressive. I shall try harder next year to qualify as a potential finalist for at least one of the blog award categories. =)

Stay tuned to more updates from us!

God bless!

Hello Everyone,
Brave, a movie by Disney and Pixar will be out in Singapore cinemas on the 8th of August 2012 and personally, after having watched the movie trailer, I am really excited about the movie and I just cannot wait for it to be out!

On a separate note, just as the heroine in the movie was Merida, the heroine in my life would perhaps be my mum. To me, she is the bravest person I have ever known because in many difficult circumstances and challenges, she will always pluck up her courage and face the obstacles head-on. In order to bring us up, she unselfishly sacrificed and scrimped on what she could just so that we could have a proper livelihood. That to me, is the reason why I consider my mum to be the heroine in my life.

Well, since the movie is going to be released on the 8th of August [yes, that is one day before National Day], I reckoned that it would be a good time for some family bonding and all you readers might want to consider bringing your little ones for a great time at the movie.

Do catch Disney • Pixar’s BRAVE in cinemas this 8 August 2012 and like the Official Walt Disney Studios Singapore Facebook Page, follow the @disneystudiosSG and subscribe to Official Disney Studios Singapore YouTube Channel!”

Movie Trailer:

Movie Synopsis:

Directed by Mark Andrews (“The Incredibles,” “Ratatouille,” “John Carter of Mars”) and Brenda Chapman (“The Lion King,” “Prince of Egypt”), and produced by Katherine Sarafian (“Lifted,” “The Incredibles”), “Brave” is a grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and the signature Pixar humor enjoyed by audiences of all ages. The film opens in Singapore theaters on 8 August 2012, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.

Hello Everyone,
please pardon me for not blogging for the last few days as I am really caught up with work and assignments. In fact, I am currently embarking on my 10,000 words dissertation and it really isn’t easy considering the fact that I have to read numerous journals, articles, and reports! Hence, I seek your understanding if you haven’t seen [or hear] much updates from me.

Ok, so… this piece of news is just too good to be shared but I shall just share it anyway in case any of you haven’t heard about it yet [I hear some of you going “chey!” because you probably would have found out about it anyhow].

Scoot has recently launched an amazing and awesome flight deal to Taipei, Taiwan and flights were going at $88! Yes, it was too good to be true when I first heard of the news but really, it was just fantastic and it came at a right time as Baby and I are planning a trip to Taiwan again. Their inaugural flight would be taking place on the 18th of September and almost everyone is excited about it!

To celebrate the occasion [that is, Scoot‘s first flight to Taipei], Scoot is giving everyone [those who like their Facebook Page] a chance to win FREE ScootBiz tickets on their first flight to Taipei. If that isn’t enough, one lucky fan will get to fly on Scoot for FREE FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR [terms and conditions apply] At the moment, Scoot is only giving out 2 pairs of return ScootBiz tickets on their first flight to Taiwan because they currently only have 101,722 fans. So, to increase the likelihood of Scoot giving out more free ScootBiz tickets, do spread the word around about Scoot‘s latest promotion and get people to like their Facebook Page! But we got to hurry though, the dateline to hit the target of 188,888 fans falls on 13 July 2012 [that’s in 3 days time!]

Anyway, in case you are wondering whether Baby and I managed to secure our flight to Taipei at a good rate, yes we did! We bought a one-way ticket to Taipei for only $226 [yes, for two persons inclusive of 15KG check-in baggage, choosing of seats, airport taxes and etc.] As we missed out on the awesome deal for the return flight tickets, we are staying tune to Scoot‘s network-wide sales that will be taking place tomorrow [11 July 2012] at 0900 hours so that we can clinch a great deal for our return ticket to Singapore!

Honestly, we are really thankful that Scoot is launching this promotion because it has really helped us to save alot so that we could spend more in Taiwan! Our upcoming trip would be a rather exciting one because we would be travelling to the Southern part of Taiwan [via the Taiwan High Speed Rail] and then head back up to Taipei for some shopping and food galore. Once I am done with my studies in August, I would be planning the itinerary together with Baby and who knows, you might be able to get a snippet of the places that we will be travelling to, once everything is confirmed and finalised.

So stay tuned to more updates from us!

God bless!

Hello Everyone,
Baby and I caught “The Amazing Spider-Man” and it is a must-watch for every Marvel Fan! Honestly, I have absolutely no idea why the movie was released a week earlier than the US and because I so badly wanted to catch the movie [because there weren’t any other movies that caught my eye], we had to pay $12 per ticket [actually we didn’t pay. We utilised our complimentary GV movie vouchers that were given to us]; in other words, we caught The Amazing Spider-Man for free!

Before I proceed to give you our opinion of the movie, here are some background of the movie that you readers might want to know about:

In case you didn’t know, Spider-Man 4 was the original intention that Sony Pictures intended to release. Unfortunately, the plan was cancelled and Sony Pictures decided to opt for a reboot with the same production team rather than another sequel to Spider-Man 3. Whether it was a disappointment or not, the film has generally received positive reviews but some critics did mention that certain elements of the film were very similar to 2002’s Spider-Man movie.

Movie Plot:

The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets.

As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

Our Opinion of the Movie:

Out of a rating of 5, we would probably give it a 3.5 because the movie had not quite met our expectations. But if you are wondering whether it is well-worth the money, we would say that for now it is, considering the fact that the other movies that are showing right now are not that appealing. While we really enjoyed the explosive actions and impressive CG of the movie, and how the romance between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy were being developed and portrayed, the storyline is a tad too predictable because it bears similar resemblances to the 2002’s Spider-Man movie. And in case you’re wondering why Mary Jane was not in the movie, this is because, Gwen Stacy is Peter Parker’s first love and Mary Jane only came into the picture after the tragic death of Gwen Stacy. We figured that Gwen Stacy’s death would be quite a sad story especially when the portrayal of both characters in the movie left quite an impression.

Lastly, don’t be in a hurry to leave the cinema right after the movie ends as there is a short teaser which we believe would be related to the next movie sequel of Spider-Man. Only when you have caught the short teaser should you then leave the cinema.
