When I first saw the 7-Seater All-New Volvo XC90 Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) at the Volvo car showroom, I couldn’t believe that I was going to be driving it over the weekend. It was like a dream come true for me and I am extremely thankful for such a rare opportunity because I have always wanted to drive a Volvo SUV.

I traded my #uber keys for the 7-seater #VolvoXC90 SUV this weekend. #volvoSG #luxurycar #luxurySUV

Having driven the Volvo XC90 (D5 Momentum Variant) for 3 days, it is about time that I reveal what I really think about the SUV and what you can expect out of it.

Exterior

With its bold massive form and stunning outward appearance, the ultra-luxurious Volvo XC90 SUV clearly differentiates itself from most of its competitors in the SUV segment. It is also the first Volvo car to carry the company’s new and more prominent iron mark, which has the iconic arrow elegantly aligned with the diagonal slash across the grille.

Together with the T-shaped “Thor’s Hammer” DRL lights, the iron mark introduces an entirely new, distinctive and confident face for Volvo’s forthcoming generation of cars.

The Volvo XC90’s larger bonnet with its new topography, beltline and sharpened shoulders that connects with its new distinct rear lights are other important design signatures that will be mirrored across the range. To add more visual muscle from the sides, the Volvo XC90 comes with a range of wheel sizes up to 22 inches.

Interior

The Volvo XC90’s interior is the most luxurious to have ever been designed for a Volvo. The most striking feature is its tablet-like touch screen control console, which forms the heart of an all-new in-car control system. This system is virtually button free, a simplicity that makes way for a more generous and cleaner surface, while allowing Volvo to create a modern and luxurious interior architecture.

Volvo is renowned for producing the most comfortable seats in the industry. The Volvo XC90 further builds on this reputation by offering innovatively designed seats that also free up interior space for passengers both in the second and third seat rows, helping to make the Volvo XC90 a genuine 7-seater.

The full seat core has an ergonomic shape that resembles the human spine. A multitude of adjustment possibilities makes it possible for the individual user to create an ideal seating position.

The second row features three individual seats with recline adjustment. The sliding function can be used to create more legroom for the passengers in the third row or to increase loading space. The seats in the third row offer class-leading comfort for passengers with a height up to 170 cm.

Driving Experience

I honestly thought that a big and bulky vehicle such as the Volvo XC90 would require a 3.0-litre engine to run but I was really surprised to find out that it is equipped with a 2.0-litre diesel engine that offers 225bhp and 470Nm of torque. Despite that, the Volvo XC90 offers a very comfortable driving experience that requires no additional effort. The only thing that irks me the most was the harsh noise coming from the engine compartment (which is typical of most vehicles running on diesel engines). Whether as a passenger or a driver, the engine noise is rather audible and it is probably one of the drawbacks why people put off buying a diesel-powered car.

Overtaking other cars on the road is a breeze but I wouldn’t suggest doing that in tight spaces. As the Volvo XC90 is a big vehicle, parallel parking may prove to be a challenge but I got used to it after much practise.

In terms of safety and protection, the Volvo XC90 is one of the safest cars in the world with two world-firsts; world first auto brake when turning in front of an oncoming vehicle, and world first solution focusing on accidental road departure.

One feature that I enjoy the most about the Volvo XC90 is the adaptive cruise control with steer assist and it is especially useful during a massive traffic jam along the expressway. The car literally steered, accelerated and stopped by itself and I didn’t have to do anything at all. Who knows? This very feature could possibly pave the way for a driverless car in the near future. Check out the following video to understand what this feature is all about.

Overall, it feels good to be behind the wheels of the Volvo XC90 and if status and symbol matters a lot to you, this is one SUV that makes you look good and feel good.

At the time of writing, the Volvo XC90 cost about SGD$320,000 and it is one luxurious 7-seater SUV that appeals mainly to the luxury market. For more information about the all-new Volvo XC90, head down to the Volvo car showroom at Alexandra Road or visit Volvo Singapore’s Website.

I hope to be a towkay one day and thanks to Toyota Singapore, I had my wish partially fulfilled when I had the opportunity to experience what is like to be a towkay’s driver for 3 days.
I was given the keys to a spanking new Toyota Vellfire that was launched a few months ago and because the king of MPV cost more than half the price of my 5-room HDB flat, my heart was fuelled with excitement that cannot be contained.

The second-generation Toyota Vellfire is certainly unlike its predecessor and with its striking bold appearance, it looks like it is ready for some serious touring that will be the envy of many people. The sculptured contours, refined details, and the elongated side silhouette are definitely a vision to behold.

The epitome of automotive luxury and elegance, the Toyota Vellfire exemplifies the essence of individuality by way of unique and impactful expressions and commands its own distinctive presence on the roads.

If the exterior was impressive, wait till you read about the interior of the Toyota Vellfire.

Packed with so many features for both the driver and the passengers, the elaborate workmanship of the interior stresses the quality of the materials and combines with sculpted metal surface and wood-grain ornamentation for a unique impact.

To make the ride feel so much more comfortable and luxurious, the car’s second row come equipped with Captain and Ottoman seats that are power-operated. Swaddling the passengers with high-end trimmed leather for exceptional comfort, travelling with the Toyota Vellfire is akin to taking a business class flight to work and/or play every day.

Should the setting be overly serious and formal, passengers can also select from a myriad of colours to influence the mood during the drive as it comes with a 16-colour LED ceiling colour illumination system. Also, with the Tri-Zone Independent Automatic Air Conditioning System; it lets the driver, front, and rear passengers control their preferred temperatures autonomously.

So how does it feel like to be in the driver’s seat of the Toyota Vellfire?

The Toyota Vellfire is no doubt a big car but that does make it difficult to drive or even park the car as it comes with a surround-view parking system. Equipped with a new 2.5L Dual VVT-I engine that continuously optimises the timing of the intake and exhaust valve operation according to driving conditions, the transition is extremely smooth and the car picks up speed really well.

Whether it is cornering or going over road humps, passengers will find the drive extremely comfortable and very stable. The noise from the road and the engine compartment is also hardly noticeable.

In terms of fuel consumption, I found the Toyota Vellfire to be slightly on the higher side but I suppose this is normal as it only logical that more energy is required to transport a big vehicle that is fully occupied by 7 adults. Then again, nobody would really care much about the fuel consumption when they can hire a chauffeur and have a lounge-on-wheels at their bidding.

Overall, the Toyota Vellfire is definitely a pretty swag car for long road trips and if your desire is to have a nomad lifestyle, the Toyota Vellfire is going to be a great companion for just SGD$217,888 [updated as of 2 October 2015].

For more information about the Toyota Vellfire, you can head down to Toyota Singapore Showroom at Alexandra Road or visit Toyota Singapore’s Official Website.

It’s been a month since we took the new Renault Fluence Privilège out for a spin and one thing that is still clearly etched in my mind since the test drive is the excellent fuel economy that the executive sedan has to offer.

The most fuel-efficient vehicle in its class, the Turkish-built Renault Fluence Privilège qualifies for SGD$10,000 in Carbon Emissions-Based Vehicle Scheme [CEVS] rebate and it is also perhaps the most value-for-money sedan when compared to its rivals.

When we first saw the Renault Fluence Privilège, we were very impressed with its exterior styling. The new iconic front grille and signature LED daytime-running lights gave the Renault Fluence Privilège a very confident and alluring approach while the curvy lines and full surfaces radiates a more dynamic and assertive stance.

The interior of the Renault Fluence Privilège is rather impressive and there is ample headroom and legroom for the driver and passengers. The plush upholstery, stylish chrome accents, and state-of-the-art technological features onboard the Renault Fluence Privilège is very appealing to the eye and they give the cabin a classy and refined atmosphere. However, if there’s one thing that I feel Renault should do, it would be to automate the adjustment of seats because right now, adjusting the seats is still primitively manual.

On the road, the Renault Fluence Privilège is sturdy and a pleasure to drive. Despite its longer width and wheelbase, the light steering makes cornering, turning, and parking an easy task. Furthermore, the new 1.5-litre turbodiesel dCi engine that is mated to a new six-speed dual-clutch gearbox gives the Renault Fluence Privilège sufficient torque [110bhp] and power [240Nm] for a fuss-free city drive. What’s on the downside would probably be the audible engine noise that is expected of most vehicles running on diesel engines.

For families with young children, the Renault Fluence Privilège offers a very spacious 530-litre boot space that can fit about two strollers and still leave ample space for large grocery shopping bags. With so many useful features on-board the Renault Fluence Privilège, it is pretty obvious why we say that it is a value-for-money executive sedan car.

If you are considering to purchase a spacious European executive sedan that is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing, the Renault Fluence Privilège is definitely a worthy contender when compared to its rivals. With a promotional price of SGD$107,999 that comes with a 5-year factory warranty, the Renault Fluence Privilège is a beauty to own.

It has been a while since we last written an automobile post and with so many things to do in recent weeks, it was really hard to find time to write but anyway; now that we manage to squeeze out some precious time, we really want to share our review/opinion about the Volkswagen Polo 1.2 TSI that we drove last month.
First Impression

When we went to the Volkswagen Car Showroom to pick up the Volkswagen Polo 1.2 TSI, the blue Volkswagen Polo immediately stood out and we were very impressed with its strong racy character. When compared with its predecessor, it is pretty hard to differentiate one from the other but the facelifted Volkswagen Polo definitely looks sportier and maybe more curvy.

The crisply contoured shoulder line and protruding front end make the Volkswagen Polo appear longer without sacrificing any of its compactness.

Details such as the distinctive body-coloured exterior mirrors with integrated indicators and the roof spoiler reinforce the impression of dynamism and agility.

The design of the Volkswagen Polo’s rear end is moulded by crisp edges, clear lines, and a compact form. The rear lights, the reflectors and even the licence plate holder add some stunning touches that help to make the Volkswagen Polo a real eye-catcher from behind too.

The Driving Experience

Though the facelifted Volkswagen Polo 1.2 TSI is a sight to behold, it certainly does not drive like a sports car; after all, it is only propelled by a 1.2-litre engine that produces 89bhp and 160Nm of torque. Despite the unimpressive figures, the driving experience still surpassed our expectations because after all, our regular car is only a 1.1 manual Kia Picanto.

When I sat down in the driver’s seat, it was really comfortable. The headroom and legroom was adequate for me and all the controls were within reach. The interior is no doubt classy for a super minicar and I like the fact that the handbrake lever, steering wheel, and gear lever are all wrapped in leather.

The decent 280-litre boot space is also adequate for storage of baggage and shopping bags. Just so you know, with the split-folding rear seats; the storage capacity can increase up to an approximate 952 litres.

In terms of the driving performance, the Volkswagen Polo felt sturdy but because the steering is so light and the feedback from the road is little, it was quite hard for us to gauge how much grip the vehicle has when cornering. Overtaking cars may also be slightly challenging for our busy roads but if you are a defensive driver, it doesn’t really matter.

When we drove the Volkswagen Polo, the engine is rather refined and quiet. However, when we floored the accelerator all the way down, the engine sprung into beast mode and lets out a sporty roar that was quite evident from the cabin.

What really impressed me the most was the fuel economy of the Volkswagen Polo and that itself is a major plus point for car buyers. Even during extreme driving circumstances i.e. heavy traffic jams with excessive revving and waiting, we were able to achieve a decent 18KM/L; a feat that even our Kia Picanto can’t beat.

Conclusion

If we had the dough, the Volkswagen Polo 1.2 TSI would definitely be one of our consideration for our next car once our current COE is up. But looking at the current circumstance i.e. overpriced COE and strict loan restrictions, we probably might make a switch over to riding a motorbike instead. Should you be looking for a no-frill decent hatchback that offers an effortless urban driving experience, the Volkswagen Polo 1.2 TSI is definitely a worthy contender.

The All-New Renault Captur is the first-ever urban crossover from Renault. Built at Renault’s Valladolid plant in Spain, this revolutionary new urban crossover from Renault brings a splash of welcome colours and glamour without losing sight of the need to deliver everyday practicality at the same time.

Exterior

The New Renault Captur comes across as appearing more imposing than its actual dimensions might suggest. Its flowing lines highlight its distinctive proportions, while its large wheels, generous ground clearance, wide tracks and steeply raked, forward-set windscreen form a unique blend of MPV, SUV and hatchback.

As Renault’s first urban crossover, the New Renault Captur’s expressive style and everyday practicality provide an open invitation to discover the world.

With various dual-tone paintwork combinations available, in addition to an optional selection of upholstery fabrics and graphic motifs, the New Renault Captur will certainly appeal to a particularly broad spectrum of tastes and desires.

Interior

The All-New Renault Captur is particularly roomy and its sliding rear seats provide an ideal balance of space for passengers and their luggage. With a maximum luggage volume of up to 455 Litres, space is aplenty with the All-New Renault Captur.

What is also interesting in the passenger cabin is the patented ‘Zip Collection’ removable and washable zipped seat covers that allows easy washing and maintenance.

The 7-inch coloured touchscreen of the Renault R-Link multimedia system takes centre stage on the dashboard, providing all on-board with a familiar and intuitive user-interface to control various functions of the car from navigation to Bluetooth® handsfree audio streaming.

Our Personal Opinion of the All-New Renault Captur

With its sporty, bold, and sleek outlook, the All-New Renault Captur is definitely impressive and a head-turner. The striking Arizona Orange colour of the vehicle is simply stunning and it leaves a lasting impression. As for the interior, it is comfortable and rather spacious for both the driver and passengers.

However, with such an outstanding and sporty design, the driving experience of the All-New Renault Captur was a disappointment and I felt that it did no justice to the excellent first impression that I had of the car.

When I sat down in the driver’s seat, gripped the steering wheel and floored the accelerator pedal, I literally felt like I was driving a panel van. While I do appreciate the fact that the All-New Renault Captur comes with an ECO mode that assists the driver in reducing fuel consumption, the speed pick-up was rather slow and the feeling was very much like driving a heavy goods vehicle.

Apart from having just an ECO mode, I really hope Renault considers having a SPORTS mode for its future variants of the Renault Captur.

In terms of handling, the All-New Renault Captur corners, turns, and brakes well and I have no qualms about that aspect. With the raised driving position that is characteristic of an SUV, parking the All-New Renault Captur was a breeze. Just so you know, the All-New Renault Captur is one of the most efficient and cleanest vehicles in its class and because of its ultra-low emission figures, it qualifies for a SGD$15,000 CEVS green rebate.

If you are interested to find out more about the All-New Renault Captur and would like to arrange a test-drive session, head down to the Renault Car Showroom! Even #CottonTheSpitz is excited to meet his fellow furry friends at the Pet Adoption Drive organised by Renault Singapore.

A few weeks ago, we were given the opportunity to test drive the new Volkswagen Beetle 1.2 TSI [DSG] and we had an enjoyable driving experience that was unlike any other cars that we drove so far.
Since 1938, the Volkswagen Beetle has always had the most recognisable automotive design in the world and it is a design that still continues to win over the hearts of people of all generations. Just so you know, there are 3 generations of Volkswagen Beetle.

Volkswagen Beetle 1st Generation

The original Beetle is one of the three most successful cars ever, with 21.5 million first generation units sold and over the years, it has shaped people’s collective consciousness. The original Beetle wrote history as the car that moved the masses.

Volkswagen New Beetle 2nd Generation [based on the Golf IV’s PQ34 platform]

Then the New Beetle debuted in the late 1990s. It brought with it Beetle Mania and a new automotive exuberance. The New Beetle offered a certain lifestyle, and it sold over one million units, alongside the Golf.

Volkswagen New Beetle 3rd Generation [based on the Jetta’s PQ35 platform]

The 21st Century Beetle is the successor of the Volkswagen Beetle icon in the new era and if one were to compare the first Beetle with the latest Beetle and place them side by side, one would see that the lines of the rear sections are nearly identical.

Exterior Design

The latest generation of Beetle is bolder, more dynamic, and definitely more masculine. Characterised by a clean, self-confident, and dominant sportiness; the car not only has a lower profile but is also substantially wider. The gain in length means that the roof could be extended further, the front windscreen could be shifted back, and the rear section could follow the contour of the original Beetle. All of these gives the Beetle a powerful appearance with muscular tension.

Despite all of its individuality, some of the Beetle’s longstanding characteristics remain; these include its flared wings and the clean design of its rear lights, the shape of the bonnet, the side and door sills and its ability to integrate large wheels of up to 18 inch.

In the space where the original Beetle once had its engine, there is now a bootlid on the Beetle, which swivels upward together with the rear windscreen when it is opened, making space to provide an ample cargo capacity of 310 to 905 litres.

As on all Volkswagens, the rear lamps exhibit an unmistakable night look. And as on every Beetle and New Beetle, their basic shapes are integrated in the design of the flared rear wings. The lights themselves are fully designed in dark red, except for 2 small white areas for the turn indicator and backup lights.

Interior Design

A distinguishing feature of the contemporary Beetle is that its interior ergonomics and packaging are based on completely new parameters. While drivers in the air-cooled Beetle travelled in a very low-slung seat, and drivers of the New Beetle could feel as if they were being chauffeured because of the bonnet that was so far forward, the latest Beetle now offers a driving experience that is a lot sportier.

Similar to the original Beetle, the new car has an extra glovebox [Beetle box] integrated in the front facia whose lid folds upward. Another classic feature is the optional auxiliary instruments above the audio/navigation system and it displays the oil temperature, the clock with chronometer function, and boost pressure gauge.

Drivers will be able to find any of the interior details with their eyes closed. This means not only current Volkswagen owners but any drivers. And yet everything has been redesigned or rearranged. In front of the driver, 3 round instruments [the tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge] supply all of the key information. In the central speedometer there is a multifunction display.

The adjustable air vents and instruments have chrome bezels.

The New Beetle has a completely redesigned seating system, which makes a substantial contribution towards the car’s high level of comfort and unlimited touring ability. The boot now has a significantly larger capacity at 310 litres instead of 209 litres. When the standard split rear bench is folded down, cargo capacity even increases to 905 litres; and it is easy to load through the wide opening boot lid. This means that nothing aboard the Beetle keeps it from handling a long road trip. Incidentally, practical bag hooks in the walls of the boot help in both small and large everyday cargo transport tasks.

As standard, the Beetle has a very good audio system, the RCD 310 with 8 loudspeakers [4 tweeters and 4 woofers] and dual tuners.

Driving Performance

The 21st Century Beetle debuts with a suitably modern engine with direct fuel injection and turbocharging. The 1.2 TSI follows the downsizing philosophy of Volkswagen’s globally successful TSI engines and what this means is maximum power with minimum fuel consumption. The New Beetle 1.2 TSI reaches 100 km/h from a standstill after just 10.9 seconds, and if necessary it can accelerate to 180 km/h. This performance data sits in sharp contrast to its very low fuel consumption and emissions values of 5.9 L/100 km and 137 g/km CO2.

The DSG transmission is characterised by maximum economy and shifting dynamics, which have never been attained to this extent before. Even the most experienced professional drivers do not shift at nearly the speed of the DSG. More than any other automatic, the dual clutch gearbox has the potential to reduce fuel consumption and thereby emissions. Compared to a conventional automatic with torque-converter clutch, fuel efficiency gains may be as much as 20 percent.

The New Beetle is equipped with a standard ESP electronic stabilisation programme.

When it comes to the layout of the car’s running gear, Volkswagen has implemented a MacPherson-type strut suspension at the front with helical springs and telescoping dampers. At the rear, a newly developed suspension in lightweight construction supports the Beetle’s very good handling properties. In addition, the running gear also offers excellent driving stability when the car is fully loaded. Fitting into this picture is the very smooth yet precise operation of the electromechanical power steering.

In terms of safety, the New Beetle has achieved the maximum 5-star safety score from Euro NCAP.

Our Personal Opinion of the New Volkswagen Beetle 1.2 TSI [DSG]

Over the years, the various generations of the Beetle reflected what is certainly the most recognisable. However, I have to admit that I was never a fan of the Volkswagen Beetle [2nd Generation] because I felt that the car was extremely girly and soft. In fact, the Volkswagen Beetle [2nd Generation] was often touted as a car for the ladies.

Having drove the New Volkswagen Beetle [3rd Generation], I am fully convinced that this car is going to be my dream hatchback car [I’m sorry MINI Cooper]. With a design that expresses power instead of flower power, the New Volkswagen Beetle offers a very sporty drive and I really love it because it is very fuel-efficient. I would personally like it more if the New Volkswagen Beetle has a manual variant.

With a turbocharged engine, picking up speed is also a breeze for the New Volkswagen Beetle [considering the fact that it is a small car with a small engine capacity] and even when going over humps, the suspension of the car is very sturdy. If you’re the “need for speed” sort of driver, you might want to consider the New Volkswagen Beetle 1.4 TSI version instead of the 1.2 TSI version.

Although the New Volkswagen Beetle boasts a huge boot space that can contain big luggage, I personally feel that the rear passengers [especially those who are pretty tall] will have a less comfortable journey on the road as the gap between the head and the car roof is pretty small. The other negative point about the New Volkswagen Beetle is that I found it pretty hard to gauge the front of the car especially when turning or cornering; which by the way, is a puzzle to me because I had no issues gauging the front of the car with much bigger vehicles like the Volkswagen Caddy Panel Van.

If you are looking for a car that shows emotion, offers dynamic performance, and yet a classic, you might want to consider the New Volkswagen Beetle. It is probably the car for the young urban professionals [yuppies]. The car’s styling, ergonomics, operability and quality interact to create a new and friendly car with a highly individual nature.

While planning for our wedding that is going to be taking place in less than 2 months’ time, both Jacqueline and I are faced with a tough decision over what wedding car to use. Many family members and friends suggested a luxury sedan while there were many others that suggested a luxury sports car. Though we have not fully decided over which car to choose yet, we hope to share more details soon.

For more information about the New Volkswagen Beetle, do check out Volkswagen Official Website and like Volkswagen Official Facebook Page!

Alternatively, you could also arrange for a test-drive at the Volkswagen Car Showroom at 247 Alexandra Road, Singapore 159934. The Volkswagen Car Showroom operating hours are Monday to Saturday- 8:30am to 7:00pm and Sundays & Public Holidays- 10:00am to 7:00pm.

Both Jacqueline and I have contemplated getting a van as our next vehicle for both personal and commercial use and after the gracious opportunity to test-drive the 1.6 TDI Volkswagen Caddy Window Van, we came to a conclusion that a passenger vehicle would be more practical for us as we can’t afford to travel at 70km/h all the time.

A perennial favourite in Singapore, the Volkswagen Caddy is now a more attractive package than ever with a lower price and optimised equipment levels. The cargo area of the Caddy Window Van offers enough room for small and short transportation tasks and it can be accessed both from the rear and sides of the vehicle.

The two different sized rear hinged doors with asymmetric division allow a cargo height of 1.24 metres and the maximum load width is 1.5 metres. The width between the two wheel housings is 1.1 metres.

The completely level cargo floor is 1.7 metres long and it offers enough space for large pallets. At 755 kilogrammes, the payload of the Caddy is extremely high.

The Volkswagen Caddy Window Van comes in two different versions; a 75 PS version mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, and a 102 PS version which comes as standard with a 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox [DSG] automatic. Both engines have extremely high torque outputs of 225 Nm and 250 Nm respectively.

PS in this blog post means Pferdestärke. It is the German translation of horsepower.

For the test drive, we drove the 102 PS TDI engine version which comes with a 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox [DSG] automatic.

Our Personal Thoughts & Opinions About The Volkswagen Caddy Window Van

Exterior

Personally, we don’t really have much comments about the exterior appearance of the Volkswagen Caddy Window Van because its exterior look is pretty commonplace. After all, the main purpose and function of a commercial vehicle is to ferry goods from Point A to Point B.

Windows on the sliding door and the side panels allow more light into the load compartment and makes the vehicle aesthetically pleasing to the eye. It also aids the driver in checking blind-spots when switching lanes or turning.

If you are planning to get a commercial vehicle for your own personal private use and you’re not bothered by the aesthetics, the Volkswagen Caddy Window Van makes a good choice.

Interior

There are ample storage areas for almost anything and everything. The centre console has 4 cup holders to contain bottles and can drinks and there’s storage space behind the front seats, under the front seats, on the dashboard, in the glove compartment, the overhead storage, and in the driver and passenger doors.

Both the passenger and driver seat are pretty comfortable and for the driver, the adjustable steering wheel makes driving the Volkswagen Caddy Window Van a breeze. Unfortunately, being a minimalist commercial vehicle, there are no buttons on the steering wheel that allows you to control the entertainment system.

If you are planning to use the Volkswagen Caddy Window Van as a personal vehicle; you can spruce it up by upgrading the multimedia entertainment system and soundproofing the entire vehicle.

Should you be ferrying workers, you can even place a sofa in the cargo space area with a non-slip mat underneath it for additional passengers to sit on.

However, having said that, do take note that it is against the law to ferry passengers other than those employed by you.

Driving Performance

Although the Volkswagen Caddy Window Van is a commercial vehicle, its torque is very powerful and it picks up speed pretty fast. The brakes are tight and cornering is smooth as the power steering makes it easy to steer the vehicle; no matter how heavy the vehicle may be. When going over humps, the suspension of the Volkswagen Caddy Window Van is very sturdy.

Since the transmission is fully automatic, there’s no need to fiddle around with any clutch and it makes driving the Volkswagen Caddy Window Van really easy; even more so for lady drivers. There’s even reverse sensors to aid parking too.

I also daresay that the Volkswagen Caddy Window Van is very fuel and cost efficient; especially when it runs on diesel instead of petrol.

What I really like about the Volkswagen Caddy Window Van is that it comes with a couple of safety features such as Electronic Stabilisation Programme, Anti-Lock Braking System, Anti-Spin Regulation, Traction Control System, Engine Brake Control, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, and Hill Hold Control. The Volkswagen Caddy Window Van even comes with an airbag for the driver. It is a real pity that such safety features for a commercial vehicle is seldom found on most basic hatchback cars.

Overall, the Volkswagen Caddy Window Van is a very decent, affordable, and spacious commercial vehicle that is safe, well-engineered, and easy to handle. If there is one feature that I wish the Volkswagen Caddy Window Van would have, I would really prefer it to have a keyless entry system and a push button to START/STOP the Engine.

The fourth generation of the Toyota RAV4 is the result of a revolutionary new design concept. In a major evolution of its pioneering crossover performance, the new Toyota RAV4 takes on a stylish new personality that is radiant with urban beauty and confident power.

With a new 2-litre petrol engine, a class-leading cargo capacity, and a compelling array of user friendly features, there is everything to like about the luxurious sports utility vehicle [SUV]. To be honest, I have always wondered how Toyota arrive at the quirky name, “RAV 4” and I found out that it is based on the first letters of the words, Recreational, Active, Vehicle, and 4-wheel drive.

Available in 2 variants; Elegance and Premium, the fourth-generation Toyota RAV4 is the result of a revolutionary new design concept and is a SUV that attains a level of refinement never seen before.

1st Generation Toyota RAV4

2nd Generation Toyota RAV4

3rd Generation Toyota RAV4

Exterior Appearance

The exterior design concept of the all new Toyota RAV4 is “Sophisticated, Dynamic and Strong”. It aims to capture the essence of a SUV’s “agile and sporty character” by refining a bold, dynamic silhouette founded on SUV functionality and aerodynamics, evoking a “feeling of excitement that suits the next generation of SUVs.”

In a significant break from its heritage, the all-new RAV4 will switch from its side-hinged back door to a convenient roof-hinged tail gate with a spare tire stored under the cargo floor.

As on other recently introduced Toyota models, the “Air Management” design approach allows for the incorporation of aerodynamic improvement measures throughout the vehicle, contributing to excellent handling stability and enhanced fuel efficiency. Aero Stabilising Fins are also adopted on the outer mirrors and the rear combination lamps to contribute to improved handling stability.

Projector headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps have been adopted to enhance the visual appeal of the all-new RAV4 and provide outstanding illumination in an energy-efficient package.

Interior Appearance

The interior design aims to offer a new SUV driving pleasure by combining a “sporty cockpit-like driver’s area” with a “spacious and open atmosphere” which expresses a bold body structure and yet a refined feel of the interior space. The driver’s zone is clearly framed with a bold metallic accent, and a horizontal bar adds the strong, stable foundation.

The all-new RAV4 has a large and versatile cargo space that can easily accommodate long or bulky items. The discontinuation of the door-mounted spare tire to a rear-facing arc back door has enabled the back door to be thinner and more compact. This has resulted in a greater cargo capacity.

The all-new RAV4 is also equipped with a tonneau cover and a multi-purpose net. The tonneau cover can conceal cargo onboard for better privacy while the multi-purpose net is great for a variety of storage configurations and versatility.

Our Driving Experience With The 4th Generation Toyota RAV4

When I first arrived at the Toyota Car Showroom to pick up the vehicle, I was really taken aback because I never expected the new Toyota RAV4 to undergo such a major facelift! Compared to the third generation Toyota RAV4, the all new Toyota RAV4 boasts such a stylish and visually powerful exterior design that it truly distinguishes itself from other conventional SUVs.

When I was behind the wheel in the driver’s seat, I felt quite on top of the world. I had a good vision of the front and was able to manoeuvre the car with much ease. Although the Toyota RAV4 is a big vehicle, parking was a breeze for me.

During acceleration, the engine was surprisingly on the quiet side and the transmission was seamlessly smooth and intuitive. When required to go offroad, the all new Toyota RAV4 doesn’t disappoint in terms of performance. The rugged but comfortable ride will surprise many and it was a real pleasure to drive the all new Toyota RAV4. The controls were all within my reach and I had no issues fiddling with the switches while driving.

A drive mode switch is available, which allows the driver to select SPORT mode, NORMAL mode or ECO drive mode in accordance to their preferences and driving conditions. Equipped with the Dynamic Torque Control AWD system which utilises the current RAV4’s mechanical hardware combined with new control logic in SPORT mode, the all new Toyota RAV4 proactively distributes torque to the rear wheels for increased grip and sportier handling. Fuel efficiency is also increased by distributing torque to the rear wheels only when necessary and in the required amount.

The all-new RAV4 is equipped with a class-top level of active safety features which includes vehicle stability control [VSC], traction control, hill-start assist control, down-hill assist control, and 7 SRS airbags.

Soft padding is dynamically positioned in areas near passengers for a refined and luxurious impression. There was sufficient leg room and head room for the passengers and the new seat design supports a more comfortable seating posture that minimises fatigue on long-distance trips.

On paper, the fuel consumption of the all new Toyota RAV4 is 13.3 KM per Litre and that’s considerably good for a SUV. When I was driving the all new Toyota RAV4, I only managed about 10 KM per Litre.

The all new Toyota RAV4 is truly a SUV to consider if you are looking for a reliable and spacious offroad vehicle that is luxuriously comfortable!
