Hello Everyone,
from the title of this entry, you can very much guess that this post is going to be about the Singapore Zoo!

Well, Baby and I have had the intention to visit the Zoo and we wanted to do so in the coming months but however, because of some changes in our plan, we forgo the Singapore Airshow 2012 and visited the Zoo instead.

Let me see, the last time I’ve been to the Zoo was a really long time ago [like more than 12 years] and the reason why we wanted to visit the Zoo is so that we could see how much the Zoo have changed and to relieve the memories of our childhood! You see, in this rather fast-paced society where the busyness of work engulfs a person, it is very important that one learn how to make use of nature to calm the soul and do some self-reflection. In fact, when Baby and I visited the Zoo, we were so intrigued by the playfulness of the animals that it brought to our attention that there’s more to life than work and career. At the zoo, we saw how the animals protected one another and how they socialised with one another, and sometimes, even the animals themselves seem to know how to love and care for one another unconditionally. This is hence the reason why I hope that through this blog entry, you would be inspired and challenged to visit the Zoo, although you might feel that there might be nothing much for you to look at!

The following photos that you see are taken by Baby using a Canon Ixus 300 HS camera and they have been edited by me.

This is one of the best pictures that Baby has taken during our visit to the Zoo! Look at the distinct rain drops on the flower petals and leaves.

Food is really costly at the Zoo! In fact, I would highly recommend you to prepare your own food [could be sandwiches, biscuits, chips and etc.] so that you could bring them to the Zoo and consume them. Here are just some of the F&B Outlets at the Zoo.

So, well, in order to save money, Baby and I shared the Chicken Roasta Set Meal from KFC! We had no choice eh, cause the only fast food outlet they have there is KFC! And moreover, their KFC is unlike other outlets you find in town where they have a wide variety of items on their menu. The Zoo’s KFC is rather costly and limited in menu items.

Planning is inevitable if you want to have a smooth day at the Zoo! So here I am planning the itinerary for the day.

For some reason, Baby likes to associate me with the Monkeys or any other animals, as long as they are hairy-looking.

Oh, and then near the entrance of the Zoo, we actually had the opportunity to catch these cute little Cotton Top Tamarin.

From Zoo Trip 2012

This picture is really cute! Here, you can see one of the Tamarin [which I assume is a male] scratching the back of the female Tamarin [I presume its a female because you can see that it’s carrying a Baby Tamarin on its neck]

Baby trying to catch a picture of me with the Tamarin but well, the Tamarin ran away instead.

Here’s a photo of us taken by the Zoo Photographers and I think their skill is not that bad!

Here’s a photo of Baby with a really antique Land Rover. She looks really sweet here ah!

From Zoo Trip 2012

This isn’t a Crocodile and neither is it an Alligator. I tried to bluff my way to Baby that this is an Alligator but alas, she found the signboard that says “False Gharial

From Zoo Trip 2012

Ok, I don’t know why its called a False Gharial but it has been around since the Dinosaur era. Amazing eh!

And so, halfway while we were walking around the Zoo, it started to pour really heavily and well, this brave and adventurous family didn’t mind the rain and I really like their positive spirit!

From Zoo Trip 2012

As we didn’t wanted to waste any time and the Zoo entrance fees which cost us a total of $40, we braved the rain by putting on our raincoats! [yes, Baby brought it along with her just in case it rain]

Oh, here’s Baby trying to act like Kenny from South Park.

From Zoo Trip 2012

The Otters were really cute as we saw them swimming in the waters and performing somersaults!

From Zoo Trip 2012

An interesting fact about Otters.

From Zoo Trip 2012

And yes, we managed to catch the lovely Tigers! They look really sweet together side-by-side.

From Zoo Trip 2012

Lazy, sleepy hippos that didn’t want to entertain us.

From Zoo Trip 2012

An interesting fact about hippos! A Baby Hippo weights more than a normal adult human being!

And then we went to the 1st show of the day, which was called the “Rainforest Fights Back“! So, as you can see, this Singaporean man was arrowed to be part of the show.

The Orang Utan challenging one of the audience in breaking a coconut and consuming it within minutes!

While I was so happy to pose with the Rhinoceros, look at its gloomy sad face!

The Cheetah that is day-dreaming and dozing off.

From Zoo Trip 2012

See! I told you the Cheetah is sleeping with both eyes closed but with its neck upright! How odd but cute.

I don’t know why but the Zebras just love showing their butts to us.

From Zoo Trip 2012

At least this Zebra was so willing to pose for a photo with me but… where is its tail?

From Zoo Trip 2012

If you have watched the Lion King Movie, you would very much associate it with Pumba, the Warthog. And eh, no, it’s not friendly.

From Zoo Trip 2012

Ok, I forgot what this animal is called. But if I’m not wrong, its called the Meerkat, which is the friend of Pumba known as Timon in the Lion King movie.

From Zoo Trip 2012

Alright, Baby skillfully caught this shot and it’s quite heart-warming actually. The Meerkats were initially fighting but after sometime, they start to “hug” one another and you can see this particular Meerkat “smiling” away.

From Zoo Trip 2012

Do you know that the neck of an African Giraffe is longer than that of an Asian Giraffe?

Are you thinking what I’m thinking?

From Zoo Trip 2012

This is Candy the Pony. It almost mistook my hand as a candy and wanted to chew it off.

This is a young pony that is quite cute-looking!

From Zoo Trip 2012

Here, you get to feed the Goats but it didn’t fancied me because I couldn’t stand the smell of goats!

From Zoo Trip 2012

Our last show for the day before we left the Zoo. Quite entertaining actually!

From Zoo Trip 2012

Our worn-out and dirty slippers after a day of walking in the rain! But well, it was all worth it! To all foreigners and Singaporeans whom are planning to visit the Zoo, I suggest you wear a pair of slippers than a pair of shoes because you don’t want to get your shoes wet if it rains.

From Zoo Trip 2012

Baby thinks that I belong to the kids club and hence shot a picture of me with tons of kids in the background.

From Zoo Trip 2012

And so… the show begins..

And I was so excited that I managed to touch at least an animal from the Zoo!

And so… we ended our trip to the Zoo happily and can’t wait for the new developments in the Zoo that will be coming up! In fact, they are in the midst of constructing the River Safari where Pandas will be featured! For now, we are really satisfied with this trip and we hope that it would stir you to visit the Zoo with your family and loved ones.

God Bless!
