Braving the hot blazing sun, Baby and I were there to cover the event; all thanks to the gracious invite from SPRG Singapore and Red Bull Singapore. We really had a lot of fun and we must admit, this has got to be one of the coolest events on earth!
In case you’re wondering what exactly is the Red Bull Flugtag, the Red Bull Flugtag challenges the brave and brainy to design, build and pilot home-made flying machines off a 6 metre high flight deck in hopes of soaring into the wild blue yonder… or more often, plunging into the waters below. Flugtag (pronounced floog-tag; noun), which means “flying day” in German, pushes the envelope of human-powered flight, but competitors need more than airtime to reach the podium. Teams are judged on three criteria: flight distance, creativity of the craft, and showmanship.
For the 1st Red Bull Flugtag Singapore 2012, the judging panel consisted of Paul Foster, Georgina Chang, Aide Iskandar, Rosalyn Lee, Felix Huang, Bobby Tonelli and Dee Kosh.
Since the first Red Bull Flugtag took place in Vienna, Austria, in 1992, more than 100 Flugtags have been held around the globe, attracting up to 300,000 spectators for a single event.
When we reached the Media Centre, we registered ourselves, gotten ourselves freshened up with a can of Red Bull, and off we went to check out the rest of the event.
There were a total of 38 teams that participated in the 1st Red Bull Flugtag Singapore 2012 and seriously, some of the teams had pretty stunning crafts! Here are some photos of the crafts that we took and their performance during flight.
Alright, there were 38 teams in total that participated in the 1st Redbull Flugtag Singapore 2012 and it is impossible for us to have every photos uploaded in this blog entry. However, here are photos of other crafts from various teams that we found pretty interesting.
So after checking out all the crafts that took their flight, Baby and I went around shooting photographs with the Mini Coopers and the hot sexy Red Bull ladies.
By the way, the amount of people that attended the 1st Red Bull Flugtag Singapore 2012 was a strong crowd of 35,000 people. This is perhaps one of the rarest moment that Siloso Beach has such a huge number of people attending an event.
