in March 2012, we actually put up an article about the Career Fair 2012 that was organised by the Singapore Professional Centre and the IIR Exhibitions Private Limited and we wrote about how we felt at the fair and what we encountered. That same month also saw another career fair that was organised by JobsDB.com but we did not attend that one because we felt that the job fairs organised were rather similar in nature [especially in the quality of job offerings and education exhibits].

Recently, we received an invitation from ST Jobs to check out their career fair that took place on 28 and 29 July 2012 at the Suntec Convention Centre, and we decided to check it out because it is ST Job’s first career fair. Before we even attended the fair, we were quite apprehensive about what was being offered at the job fair but when we saw the sponsors whom were sponsoring the event, I was very much convinced that this job fair is going to be an extraordinary one.

Here’s why:

1). The sponsors that sponsored the event came from various fields and industries, and besides the usual insurance companies that were major sponsors for the event, government ministries and government bodies [such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Home Team Academy, PSA, and SMRT] were also sponsors for the event! Some other well-known companies that also sponsored the event were Halliburton, Rome, McDonalds, Micron, Marigold, Nescafe, and Walton.

2). A look at their exhibitor list revealed a whole list of participating organisations that offered quite a number of job opportunities as compared to previous job fairs organised by others. 3). While we were there, despite the rigid registration process, the flow was seamless and smooth. As the career fair only allowed Singaporeans and PRs to be admitted and also foreigners with valid working passes [on a separate day], this was certainly an ideal situation as these measures filtered away foreigners whom were on social visit passes. This in turn would benefit employers because in previous job fairs, admission was open to the general public.

4). The whole venue was segmented clearly as the booths were arranged into sectors belonging to a particular industry. So, if a prospective candidate is seeking for a position in a Food and Beverage industry, he/she can check out the various Food and Beverage companies without having to walk all over the place.

5). Last but not the least, there were fringe activities organised and candidates seeking for jobs could actually participate in these activities so as to find out more about themselves [in terms of personality, suitable careers, strengths, weaknesses and etc.], enrich themselves through the various talks conducted by well-known speakers from established companies, and even learn how to dress themselves up so as to create a lasting first impression.

I would really love to put up some pictures/photos to prove my point but unfortunately, as I was rushing for time, I didn’t really have the opportunity to take any photos. I have tried searching for a photo gallery on ST Jobs Facebook Page and the ST Jobs Career Fair website but to no avail. They really should consider having one so that bloggers like myself can grab pictures and put it up on our blog.

Conclusion:

Overall, attending the ST Jobs Career and Development Fair 2012 has been quite a positive experience for me because it is very different from other job fairs that were organised. The quality and variety of jobs that are offered at the ST Jobs Career and Development Fair 2012 are pretty good as well. If you’re looking for a job, this is one career fair that you should look out for in future. Employers seeking for avenues to advertise their job opportunities might want to consider placing ads on ST Jobs Website because I personally have seen for myself how ST Jobs have revamped and re-positioned itself to compete against its competitors [such as Jobscentral, Jobstreet, and JobsDB]. Truly, I believe ST Jobs will become the top recruiting site for many years to come. It sure looks like Jobscentral, Jobstreet, and JobsDB have a lot of catching up to do [especially in the organisation of career/job fairs] if they want to remain relevant and competitive.

The next job fair that will be taking place on the 25 and 26 August 2012 at Suntec Convention Centre [Hall 403 and Hall 404] is organised by Jobscentral.
