We recently received an ASUS ZenFone Selfie and over the past week, we have put it to the test and in this review, you will find out what we think of the smartphone and whether you ought to buy this phone for your personal use.

By its name, you would probably have an inkling that the ASUS ZenFone Selfie is a mobile phone for people who like to take selfies and I don’t deny that. Both the front and rear camera of the phone have a huge 13-Megapixel resolution and they include dual-LED Real Tone flash technology for perfect illumination in any lighting conditions.

Given such specs for its camera, I must admit, the ASUS Zenfone Selfie does take exceptional photos and I am pretty impressed with how some of my photos turned out. The camera function also has some cool features to edit and touch up the photos. But of course, if you’re the kind of person who believes in using the #nofilter hashtag, the camera is still good for taking high quality photos.

//platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.jsA performance driven smartphone?

Definitely not.

The ASUS Zenfone Selfie is not cut out for it and running multiple apps on the phone will definitely slow the phone down. I will generally not recommend users to multitask on the ASUS Zenfone Selfie unless necessary because the phone will be quite sluggish.

Having said that, if photography is your thing and you’re looking for a smartphone that will also allow you to surf Facebook, upload photos to Instagram, and text your friends; then the ASUS Zenfone Selfie is something that you might want to consider. One thing that I really like about the ASUS ZenFone Selfie is its dual-sim capability and what that also means for me is that whenever I go overseas for a vacation; I could just purchase a tourist sim card and insert it alongside my main sim card. The battery of the ASUS ZenFone Selfie is removable and it allows users to take out an empty battery and slot in a fully-charged spare battery when the need arises. In my personal opinion, there may be no need for a spare battery because the battery life of the ASUS ZenFone Selfie is rather decent and despite me being quite a heavy user, the phone could last me an entire day.

To buy or not to buy?

Well, for the price of SGD$379, the ASUS Zenfone Selfie may be considered pricey for students but well within the reach of most working adults.

But is the phone worth the price tag?

Probably yes and probably not. It all depends on how much you are willing to pay for a phone like the ASUS Zenfone Selfie.

As for a performance-driven person like me?

I reckon that the ASUS ZenFone 2 might be a more suitable choice.

Not looking for a phone but some other hardware like an All-in-One PC or even a smartwatch?

You might want to check out the new products such as the ASUS Zen AiO Pro PC or ASUS ZenWatch 2 that were recently launched at the ASUS Zensation event.

I’m a pretty adventurous tech geek and as much as possible, I try to lug my electronics wherever I go. Yes, I need to work even when I travel and staying connected to the World Wide Web is so essential for me. However, more often than not, I get my electronics scratched or even damaged when I bring them out for my frequent hikes and climbs.
Not wanting to leave things to chance, I have all my electronics i.e. mobile phone, camera, laptop, and tablet suited up with bulky protection casings but they are extremely cumbersome to bring around.

Recently, I received the Targus Grid Advanced 32L Backpack and it is the best gift ever!

Designed to resist harsh environments, battling city crowds, busy commute, and the erratic weather, the Targus Grid Advanced 32L Backpack offers the ultimate protection against shocks, abrasion, vibration, moisture, and dust.

If you are imagining a cumbersome and heavy hard-casing backpack right now, you’re definitely wrong. The Targus Grid Advanced 32L Backpack is no way near that though you will be surprised to learn that it has passed the US Military Grade drop test specifications, protecting devices even at drops of up to 4 feet.

With a reinforced rugged base and corner that boost durability and reliability, the straps and back panel of the Targus Grid Advanced 32L Backpack are also designed with added breathable vents for maximum comfort.

Personally, what the Targus Grid Advanced 32L Backpack really impresses me the most is the Safeport 3D Protection System which is built with memory foam. The suspended protection vault provides my laptop with 360 degrees protection against impact. Combined with the water and wear-resistant bottom along with an integrated protective tablet sleeve, the Targus Grid Advanced 32L Backpack helps keep my valuable electronic devices intact.

For a typical hike/trek, I will usually bring my ASUS UX303 laptop, my Samsung Note 4 phone, an Olympus EPL-6 camera, a standard first-aid kit, some work documents, biscuits, and bottled drinks, and I am really delighted that I could have all the items packed into my Targus Grid Advanced 32L Backpack without much hassle.

Sturdy but very comfortable to carry around, I appreciate the ergonomic adjustable shoulder straps along with a built-in lumbar support beam that the Targus Grid Advanced 32L Backpack has to offer. Every hike/trek is ultra-comfortable even when I have to carry heavy-duty items in the large compartments.

Not entirely convinced? Well, you should check out this video!

If you are keen to buy the Targus Grid Advanced 32L Backpack, you can find it at Harvey Norman Millenia Walk, Digital Style @ Suntec City, Challenger @ Funan DigitaLife Mall, or Micro Interface @ Funan DigitaLife Mall. The retail price for it is SGD$229.90

Psst… Lazada Singapore is retailing the Targus Grid Advanced 32L Backpack for only SGD$159!

For more information about the other ranges of Targus Backpacks, do check out Targus Official Website!

I am a sucker for smartwatches. I own the Samsung Galaxy Gear and LG G Watch R smartwatches and I even tried a couple of other smartwatches from different brands but still, none of them could match up to my expectations in terms of battery life and user-interface until I recently got my hands on the Pebble Time smartwatch.

Unlike the smartwatches I owned, the Pebble Time Smartwatch is truly a winner in terms of its battery life. On a single charge which takes about 20 minutes to half an hour to get fully charged, the Pebble Time smartwatch could last me for 4 to 5 days of heavy usage. Even when the battery is at zero percent, I like the fact that I could still read the time as the Pebble Time smartwatch would not turn off by itself or black out immediately.

The design of the Pebble Time smartwatch is rather simple and it may not be aesthetically impressive. With a squarish display, a polycarbonate shell, and a wide silicone band; I honest feel out of place when I wear the Pebble Time smartwatch to a formal business meeting but seriously, I don’t really care because it is sporty and comfortable to wear. On second thought, I really do think the Pebble Time Round Smartwatch (another smartwatch model from Pebble) is a worthy companion for formal events!

Checking the time and reading the notifications on the Pebble Time smartwatch is also a breeze for me. With its always-on reflective colour display, I like how I can activate the built-in backlighting with a simple flick of my wrist. Coupled with the new timeline interface, the Pebble Time smartwatch is really nifty and handy.

However, I would not entirely say that the Pebble Time smartwatch is a perfect smartwatch for everyone. If you want a smartwatch that is sexy, well-designed and packed with many rich features, the Pebble Time smartwatch is not something that I will recommend to you. In fact, the Pebble Time smartwatch is meant for the minimalist individual who doesn’t mind spending $149.99 USD on a timepiece that offers the basic functionalities of a smartwatch.

If you make a comparison between the Pebble Time smartwatch and its competitors which are in the same price range, the Pebble Time smartwatch is definitely bound to lose because its competitors would offer features such as a touchscreen display, GPS, NFC support, and a heart rate monitor while the Pebble Time smartwatch does not. But what is really amazing is that despite the minus points, it has not stopped the Pebble Time smartwatch from becoming the best well-funded project in the whole of Kickstarter’s history.

Seriously, if there is one thing that I wish the Pebble Time smartwatch will have; it would be a sapphire glass display because being a rugged and adventurous guy who is always on the move, the probability of me scratching my watch display is very high and a hardy display that can weather the impact of hairline scratches is deeply appreciated. If water sports is your thing, you might want to know that the Pebble Time smartwatch has a water resistance of up to 30m and that makes it super weatherproof.

Looking for a Christmas gift to give to a geeky man? The minimalist smartwatch that is waterproof and functional might just be it.

When I was much younger and still using the public transportation system, I would always have my ears cupped with a set of headphone or plugged with a pair of earphones because being an introvert, I would prefer listening to my playlist than to interact with people.
I was very much in my own world back then and I would always listened intently to the tracks over and over again just so that I could figure out the drum beats and chords used in the song.

So, how do I accurately determine the drum beats and chords used in a song?

Well, I had to use a high-quality earphone or headphone that is able to produce crisp and clear audio. There is indeed a stark contrast between an average earphone/headphone and a high-quality one. Many people often have the misconception that earphone/headphone are made the same and they produce the same audio quality but the truth is certainly far from that.

If you visit an electronics store frequently, you would have noticed that there are cheap and affordable earphone/headphone out there and there are also the very expensive ones too. With plenty of options available, how then do you decide which earphone/headphone is the most suitable one for you?

Firstly, you need to decide on your budget. Do bear in mind that the higher your budget, the more options there will be for you to choose.

But what if you are on a low budget?

Just because an earphone/headphone is cheap and affordably priced, it doesn’t mean that the quality may necessarily be bad. After you have decided on how much you want to spend on an earphone/headphone, the next thing you need to ask yourself is what kind of features/functions you want to get out of the product. The more features/functions you want to have in an earphone/headphone, the more money it is going to cost you.

For a very decent earphones that is super affordable, I highly recommend the GoGear Alumies Earphones [Model Number: GEP4005]. It is pretty stylish, lightweight, and best of all; the sound quality is very decent for the price that one has to pay!

In case you’re wondering, the GoGear brand of products is the latest addition to the portable audio range under Gibson Innovations and Gibson Innovations is part of the Gibson Brands Inc., one of the world’s leading music lifestyle companies [guitarists would definitely be able to identify with the Gibson brand].

Costing only SGD$29.90, the GoGear Alumies Earphone comes with a 1-year local warranty and you can get them at Mustafa and selected 7-Eleven stores in Singapore. Should anything happen to the Earphone due to a defect, you can do a one-to-one exchange with Hwee Seng Electronics [the sole distributor in Singapore for GoGear].

Psst… we are running a giveaway on Instagram & Facebook and we will be giving away 3 sets of GoGear Sparklers! If you are interested, click  for more details!

For a wallet-friendly wireless Bluetooth headphone that is lightweight, you might want to consider the very stylish and sleek Jabra Move Wireless Headphone that offers a surprisingly superior and comfortable audio-listening experience.

One thing I really like about the Jabra Move Wireless Headphone is that when Bluetooth is unavailable, such as during long-haul flights or with non-Bluetooth enabled devices; a detachable 3.5mm audio cable [that is included in the package] can be used for an equally outstanding sound experience.

The battery life is pretty decent and its price tag of SGD$148 is slightly higher but very reasonable. Available in Gold, Cobalt Blue, Cayenne Red and Coal Black, you can get the Jabra Move Wireless Headphones at Jabra’s GoWireless Online Store.

Well, if you are the extroverted sort of person and you enjoy being social; you probably might want to consider the Logitech Ultimate Ears MegaBoom Bluetooth Speaker! It boasts a bold and iconic design and it has a long battery lifespan that can last almost an entire day.

One thing I admire about the Logitech Ultimate Ears MegaBoom Bluetooth Speaker is the fact that it is shock-proof and has a waterproof rating of IPX7.

However, don’t be fooled by its bulky shape; not only does it blast freakishly amazing 360-degree sound with deep, heart-pounding bass, the Logitech Ultimate Ears MegaBoom Bluetooth Speaker actually weighs even lesser than a 1KG-pack of flour and you can even pair it up with another MegaBoom to pump up the volume!

However, the only qualm I have about the Logitech Ultimate Ears MegaBoom Bluetooth Speaker is the super-expensive price tag of SGD$399. If you have the dough to splurge, you can get it from the Apple Online Store.

So, how much will you spend on a set of earphones/headphones?

As for me, I guess it really depends on what I want to get out of my audio-listening experience.

For everyday commuting use, I will probably consider an affordable pair of earphone that is durable and offers an immersive audio-listening experience while for office use or business trips, I will consider a pair of wireless headphones; and well, if I’m organising a get-together party at home or having a game of volleyball at the beach, a wireless portable waterproof Bluetooth Speaker will surly come in handy.

OPPO is a lesser-known phone brand in Singapore but it is growing in popularity. With the launch of the OPPO N3 last December, its presence is still rather insignificant and OPPO has a long way to go before it can win over the hearts of Android consumers who are pretty attached to branded names like Samsung, Sony, LG, and HTC.

A few weeks ago, we were given the opportunity to review the OPPO N3 and here is a summary of our user-experience with the OPPO N3.

Our Personal Opinion/Review about the OPPO N3

Featuring a powerful motorised rotation 16-Megapixel Schneider Optic Camera, there is everything to love about the OPPO N3 except the hefty price tag of SGD$849 and it is honestly very hard for us to determine if the OPPO N3 is going to be a worthy buy because there are many other comparable Android phones which is of a similar price range. For us, the one and only reason why we would even consider buying the OPPO N3 is the functionality of its camera.

With the automated rotatable camera, the OPPO N3’s camera has the ability to rotate 206 degrees and it is capable of taking pictures using its free-stop and multi-angle shooting features, a unique experience in mobile technology and mobile photography. The camera can also take impressive, wide-angle panoramic shots, such as cityscapes and the process of taking selfies is rather hassle-free.

Here are some photos which Jacqueline took with the OPPO N3.

Aesthetically, the OPPO N3 is pleasing to the eye though we have to admit that it can be quite a handful. The hollow underside design of the OPPO N3 houses the OPPO Skyline Notification Light 2.0 and we appreciate the gentle pulsating white illumination that notifies us of messages.

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core CPU, the OPPO N3 is packed with 32GB ROM, 2GB RAM, and it runs on the Color OS 2.0 platform.

Now, here’s the kick.

Though launching applications and playing games on the OPPO N3 is responsive and zippy, we dislike the fact that it runs on the Color OS 2.0 platform. Sure, there are a lot of useful features that allows for customisation but switching between applications is a nightmare because the application switcher can be quite sluggish at times!

Other than the sluggish switch of applications, the OPPO N3 is able to handle most tasks smoothly without any real cause for concern.

As for the battery life, we are quite satisfied that the OPPO N3 is able to handle our very demanding heavy usage which includes tons of web-browsing, snapping of photos, and multiple video streaming. It also helps with the fact that fast-charging is available on the OPPO N3 and it takes about half an hour to charge the phone to 70% battery level.

To buy or not to buy?

Seriously, this is quite a tough decision to make because if you are finding a good substitute for a portable compact camera that allows you to take high quality photos and yet have the functionality of a smartphone, the OPPO N3 might be the right choice for you but then again, for the price of SGD$849, there are other choices which may be better and more value-for-money.

If you are a Music Aficionado, you would agree with us that Bang & Olufsen manufactures the world’s best audio sound systems and speakers.

Founded in 1925 by Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen, Bang & Olufsen has come a long way and this year, the world’s oldest audio company is commemorating its 90th birthday with the Love Affair Collection.

The Love Affair Collection sees six of the company’s current products rejuvenated with a new palette option in keeping with the surge in interest towards beautiful materials, especially rose gold, which is experiencing a renaissance in the jewellery industry. One of the most emotive aspects is its underlying meaning. While white gold represents friendship and yellow gold means fidelity, rose gold represents love and is therefore the ultimate inspiration for this collection.

During the roaring 20s, Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen started their journey into technology when it was still an almost magical phenomenon, and with the accompanying flourish of Art Deco, it was clear that luxury, glamour, and exuberance were at the heart of the time.

Fast-forward 90 years and the company is pleased to launch a collection that truly captures the mood and style of the time, setting the stage for a love affair that could last the ages.

Combined with the warm colour fabrics recently developed in cooperation with Fashion Designer Stine Goya, the company hopes it will truly capture the hearts of customers who have enjoyed a love affair with the company over the years.

The radiant and romantic rose golden nuance is achieved through a unique dyeing process, which in itself inspires Bang & Olufsen’s designers to create concepts that can match any style and any age, where the only limit is their imagination. This, combined with warm and elegant walnut wood, bridges past and present to represent the passion, pride and persistence that has been driving Bang & Olufsen for the last 90 years.

The Love Affair Collection consists of six current Bang & Olufsen’s products.

The first is the majestic and recently launched BeoVision Avant 85, and then the all-in one entertainment solution BeoVision 11 and BeoRemote One. Also included in the range is the extremely popular magic-touch BeoPlay A9 music system and the elegant, lightweight BeoPlay H6 headphones.

Last but certainly not least, the collection will include the classic, slender, and straight-lined BeoLab 18 with a new walnut lamella front and a cabinet in a stunningly elegant rose golden version.

Though all of the six Bang & Olufsen’s products captured our hearts, the one that stood out for us is the elegant and lightweight BeoPlay H6 headphones that is retailing at SGD$698.

The BeoPlay H6 combines a natural and authentic sound performance with carefully selected, high-quality materials that rest softly and comfortably on the head, bringing a true sense of everyday luxury.

The softness of the lambskin on the ear pads is the first thing one will notice and the memory foam inside the ear pads adapts ensuring great comfort.

The head band is also very durable and it ages with grace because of the cow leather that gains patina and personality when worn over time.

This stylish over-ear headphones made from premium materials definitely deserves a mention for delivering top of the line sound quality.

What about you? Which of the six Bang & Olufsen’s products from the Love Affair Collection captured your heart?

It is with great excitement that we now announce the official launch of our new E-Retail Store!
Though we don’t have much products to offer at the moment, we are looking to expand the range of products that we carry in our store and we hope that in time to come, we will be able to collaborate with more suppliers and carry exciting products that will cater to people of all lifestyles.

Currently, we have the following products that may be of interest to some of you and if you know of anyone who is interested as well, do share the news with them!

Removable Wall Stickers

Both Jacqueline and I are big fans of removable wall stickers because they can turn a dull wall into a rather colourful one. In fact, we have decorated our rooms with removable wall stickers and they are always a delight to look at whenever we step into the room.

We currently carry 7 different designs of removable wall stickers and two of which are glow-in-the-dark [yes, they really do glow-in-the-dark at night]. The designs that you see in our store have been specially handpicked for their uniqueness and we are very confident that the removable wall stickers will add aesthetic value to your home.

Although our prices for all 7 designs may vary, we are pretty sure that our offer is definitely value-for-money.

Should you wish to transform your wall into a whiteboard or a black chalkboard, we have that available too and you can use them at home, in your offices, or even in your restaurants/cafes and etc. This is especially useful if you want to customise your wall or give your children some space to draw and doodle without making a mess on the actual wall.

JJC LED-8 Mini Video Light for Camera and Smartphones

This is one really nifty useful gadget that we really like. As we are always out and about running events and taking photos, some of the lighting conditions may prove to be challenging and our photos will either turn out too dark or blurry. With the JJC LED-8 Mini Video Light, no matter how dim the lighting may be, we are now able to take photos with excellent colours and light exposure.

One really cool thing we like about the JJC LED-8 Mini Video Light is that we could attach it to our Smartphones via the Audio Jack Port and we could also attach it to our Olympus EPL-6 Camera via the Standard Hotshoe.

Apart from that, the JJC LED-8 Mini Video Light has a rechargeable battery which you could charge using a USB Cable and a Powerbank and there is a battery indicator that shows how much battery is left before charging is required. What’s even more important to note is that the level of brightness is adjustable to your personal liking.

Well, we currently have 4 units of the JJC LED-8 Mini Video Light available and we are selling them for a pretty decent price of SGD$27.90. If you look around and compare on Qoo10, our price is 3 times cheaper than what is available in the market and we are pretty confident about the quality of the JJC LED-8 Mini Video Light as we personally own one for our photography usage.

As mentioned, we are definitely looking forward to expanding our store and adding more lifestyle items in time to come and meanwhile, should you have any feedback for us to improve upon, do feel to always drop us an email at concierge@awinsomelife.org

We look forward to your patronage! 🙂

Life’s pretty convenient when you have the Logitech Keys-To-Go and the Logitech Illuminated Living Room Keyboard K830 and I know it is pretty bias when I said that because honestly, I am really a big fan of Logitech’s products. But really, the Logitech Keys-To-Go and the Logitech Illuminated Living Room Keyboard K830 are two fantastic gadgets that has been making life more convenient for me!

Let’s start off with the Logitech Keys-To-Go.

Keys-To-Go, the super slender, uber handy, ultra-portable, fit anywhere, go everywhere keyboard is so nifty that you can bring it anywhere you go without looking like an eyesore. Weighing only 180g [that’s about 7 tablespoonful of flour], it is really light to carry around.

What I really like about the Keys-To-Go is that when life gets really messy, the durable FabricSkin that covers the keyboard will ward off dirt, crumbs, and spills no matter where I am or what I do.

Another awesome feature of Keys-To-Go is the rechargeable battery that can last about 3 months on a single charge. When the keyboard requires charging, the battery check indicator light will blink and this is especially helpful if you carry a portable powerbank.

The keys are also well-spaced with feedback for comfort and it connects to your iOS® devices, including iPad, iPhone, and Apple TV via Bluetooth®. It even comes with iOS® keyboard shortcuts for maximum work productivity.

Just so you know, the Logitech Keys-To-Go is retailing for SGD$99.

Next up is the Logitech Illuminated Living Room Keyboard K830.

The Logitech Illuminated Living Room Keyboard K830 makes if effortless to navigate from the PC to TV and with its sharp, bright, backlit keys, it makes it very easy to see and type in the dark. The automatic backlighting also helps to conserve the battery because after 5 seconds of inactivity, it automatically turns off.

One thing I really like about the Logitech Illuminated Living Room Keyboard K830 is that it comes combined with a touchpad on it too! This allows me to control the mouse pointer precisely and accurately from a distance without the need for an additional mouse which makes things more cumbersome.

With a wireless range of 10 metres, the Logitech Illuminated Living Room Keyboard K830 is really hassle-free and easy to setup, just plug the Unifying Receiver and you can immediately play! There’s no installation of software or whatsoever.

In case you’re wondering, the Logitech Illuminated Living Room Keyboard K830 is rechargeable and it can last for 10 days after only 3 hours of charge! If you are interested in the Logitech Illuminated Living Room Keyboard K830, it is currently retailing at SGD$139.

The ASUS MeMOPad 8 is a Quad-Core 8-inch LTE Tablet that is powered by the next generation 64-bit Intel Atom Z3560 Processor and it is very slim, ultra-portable, and convenient for one-handed use.

If you go to Google and search for the ASUS MeMOPad8, you might notice that there are two different variants of the ASUS MeMOPad8 that goes by the same name and in this blog post, we will be sharing about the ASUS MeMOPad 8 that has the model number, “ME581CL”.

Our Personal Opinion/Review of the ASUS MeMOPad 8, ME581CL Variant

Having fiddled with the ASUS MeMOPad8 for a month, we daresay that the ASUS MeMOPad 8 is a very responsive and power-packed tablet that offers a blazing fast web-browsing experience.

With 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage [with microSD expansion capability for up to 64GB capacity], and a 9-hour battery life, the ASUS MeMOPad 8 can be an entertainment powerhouse that allows you to bring your video and music library wherever you go.

Not only is the ASUS MeMOPad 8 an entertainment powerhouse, its sleek profile of just 7.45mm and its weight of 299 grams makes it very convenient and lightweight to bring around.

Featuring an 8-inch Full HD 1920 x 1200 IPS display with a wide 178-degree viewing angle that combines ASUS Splendid and TrueVivid colour enhancement technologies, the ASUS MeMOPad 8 is very capable of delivering stunning visuals.

It is also interesting to note that although the ASUS MeMOPad 8 does not come with a stylus, its capacitive touchscreen is capable of pen functionality by using any metal-tipped pen or lead pencil with a radius of 0.75mm or more.

One thing I really like about the ASUS MeMOPad 8 is its ability to stream photos and videos in high definition to a TV or an external display with Miracast. When paired with the Google Chromecast, the ASUS MeMOPad 8 works wonders and turns your not so smart TV into a very smart TV.

Some other specs of the ASUS MeMOPad 8 include NFC, 5-Megapixel Rear Camera, 2-Megapixel Front-Facing Camera, and Stereo Speakers with SonicMaster Technology.

Available in 3 different colours; Pearl White, Powder Pink, and Metallic Blue, the fashionable and stylish ASUS MeMOPad 8 is retailing at SGD$499. For such an affordable price, the ASUS MeMOPad 8 is definitely value-for-money.
