Jack Neo’s latest movie, “Ah Boys to Men” has been released recently and there are two parts to the movie. The first part is currently being screened in the cinemas while the second part will be released sometime in February during the Lunar New Year next year.
With a production budget of $3 million dollars, Ah Boys to Men is Singapore’s biggest budget film so far. Besides veteran actors like Irene Ang, Richard Low and Wang Lei, the rest of the cast is entirely made up of newcomers, some of whom are prominent bloggers as well [not sure if anyone caught a snippet of me at the Coffee Shop Scene in the earlier part of the movie]! 😛

Our Personal Review of the Movie:
In the earlier portion of the movie, it sets people thinking about what Singapore will be like if we come under attack. Of course, with the support given by MINDEF, Jack Neo tries to put everything together as realistically as it can get and I felt that he did a pretty good job. Although I have to admit that the CG effects aren’t close to the standards of big budget Hollywood films, the emotions that are portrayed together with the “Training to be Soldiers” song playing in the background certainly set a rather serious tone that reminded us not to take Singapore’s peace and security for granted.

Jack Neo also did a pretty good job in balancing the experiences of different generations of servicemen undergoing National Service [NS] in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s. Servicemen whom have completed their Basic Military Training on Tekong Island will definitely find the scenes oh-so-familiar and it certainly reminded me of my time in NS; especially the CB leaf part.

Well, I shan’t disclose further information about the movie and whether or not you have served NS, you really ought to catch this local production because it is extremely funny and it gives you insights about what serving NS is like. In fact, do book/purchase your tickets early because when I was catching the movie at 2350 hours last night [which by the way is a rather unpopular time slot], the cinema was totally sold out!

Also, I do understand that there are some pretty negative comments about the movie and I’ve got this to say; it’s a love or hate thing. People have different preferences and different perspectives but apparently, there are more likes than dislikes; so… I guess Jack Neo did a fantastic job of conceptualising the movie and yes, I rate it 4/5. 🙂

Yes yes, Skyfall will be officially releasing tomorrow and guess what, Baby and I have already caught Skyfall and we must say, the movie was totally awesome.

Well before I continue on with the rest of this blog entry, I must thank STClassifieds for the free pair of movie tickets although I have to admit, I was quite disappointed with how the event was managed and organised; especially with regards to the distribution of the movie tickets.

Here’s what happened.

I received an email from STClassifieds informing me that the movie will begin at 2000 hours and that the ticket collection would be from 1800 to 1900 hours. The “best part” was, tickets are distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis. So, like any typical kan-cheong Singaporean where our favourite pastime is queueing, I arrived at 1730 hours to queue and when I was there, I saw that the registration counters and booths were all neatly set up and ready. Since there were 3 ladies manning the counter, I asked if I could collect the movie tickets. Then, the lady manning the counter asked me if I was collecting one ticket or two tickets. Apparently, those collecting one ticket could collect the ticket first and those collecting two tickets could only collect when the clock strikes 1800 hours.

Well, since STClassifieds have made such an arrangement, I waited patiently. True to my predictions, I wasn’t the only one asking if the tickets can be collected since it gave people the impression that the counter was ready to receive people. By about 1735 hours, more people came and even more people asked the counter the same question over and over again. Guess what, at 1745 hours, STClassifieds finally decided to distribute the tickets to everyone since they noticed that the line of people was growing and that the people were starting to get frustrated and annoyed with the puzzling initial arrangement of the tickets distribution.

I really wonder, didn’t STClassifieds predicted that when tickets are distributed on a first-come-first-served basis, there will definitely be people whom will arrive earlier than the stipulated distribution time to queue up so as to get the best seats? Since tickets are distributed on a first-come-first-served basis, then how come those who are collecting one ticket can collect their ticket first while those whom are collecting two tickets have to wait till 1800 hours?

To be honest, I am providing real feedback here. Both Baby and I have received tons of movie invites and in all of the movie events that we have attended, tickets ARE NOT distributed on a first-come-first-served basis but rather, it’s distributed on a free-seating basis. That means, if you step into the theatre late, then you get the front rows, and vice-versa. This I feel, would have been a much better arrangement.

Anyhows, enough of the rantings. We shall now do a movie review of Skyfall.

Here’s the Movie Plot [as extracted from GV‘s Website]:

Daniel Craig is back as James Bond 007 in Skyfall, the 23rd adventure in the longest-running film franchise of all time. In Skyfall, Bond’s loyalty to M (Judi Dench) is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

Our Review of the Movie:

The James Bond Film Franchise has never failed to keep me captivated and Skyfall isn’t an exception either. Throughout the entire duration of the movie, we were kept in suspense and anticipation as the movie plot unfolded. Even the introductory portion of the movie was exciting and intense. Filled with heart-pumping and non-stop action, we will strongly recommend you to catch Skyfall if you’re a fan of action movies.

By the way, before we entered the theatre, we were told not to disclose any information [such as the story/climax] about the movie. Seriously, I don’t know what’s the big deal because as of now, Wikipedia even have an article about Skyfall and in the article[movie spoiler], the movie plot was disclosed in full details! So seriously, what’s the point of telling us not to disclose any information about the movie when the detailed movie plot has been released on Wikipedia for all to see?

Here is the Movie Trailer of Skyfall:

In any case, despite all the hiccups and all, Skyfall is a worthy movie to catch.

Hello Everyone,
Baby and I caught The Perks of Being A Wallflower yesterday and we must say, the movie is really good.

Here’s the Movie Plot [as extracted from Shaw]:
A funny and touching coming-of-age story based on the beloved best-selling novel by Stephen Chbosky, THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER is a modern classic that captures the dizzying highs and crushing lows of growing up. Starring Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller, THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER is a moving tale of love, loss, fear and hope–and the unforgettable friends that help us through life.

Our Review of the Movie
If you’re planning to catch a movie this weekend, you might want to consider catching The Perks of Being A Wallflower. The movie plot is good and the actors portrayed their roles pretty well. The movie can be quite funny at times and also rather heartwarming. In fact, while watching the movie, you might find yourself thinking back on your growing up process. Overall, it’s a good movie to catch with your bunch of best buddies/friends or if you’re missing Emma Watson after her last role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movie series, then you ought to catch this movie.

Here’s the Movie Trailer:

Anyways, for the month of November, there are also some new movies that are going to be released and we are really excited about it. Some movies to look out for in November are Skyfall, Ah Boys To Men, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, and The Life of Pi. So, if you’re complaining that there are nothing to do during the weekends in November, why not head down to the cinema nearest to you?

Hello Everyone,
End of Watch was just released on the 18th of October [last Thursday] and Baby and I caught it over the last weekend.

Movie Plot [as extracted from GV‘s website]:
A powerful story of family, friendship, love, honor and courage, End Of Watch stars Academy Award(R) nominee Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena as young Los Angeles police officers Taylor and Zavala as they patrol the city’s meanest streets of south central Los Angeles. Giving the story a gripping, first-person immediacy, the action unfolds through footage from the handheld HD cameras of the police officers, gang members, surveillance cameras, and citizens caught in the line of fire to create a riveting portrait of the city’s most dangerous corners, the cops who risk their lives there every day, and the price they and their families are forced to pay.

Movie Review:
Personally, both Baby and I find the movie a tad too draggy. Although we really like the movie plot, the transition from one scene to another didn’t flow quite well. While I do understand that the movie wants to give cinema-goers a first-person kind of view, it certainly didn’t help much when throughout the entire movie, the scenes were just shaking so much that it gave us a pretty bad headache after that. Making matters worst, there were some pretty gruesome scenes and you might probably end up puking after the movie. So, if you’re planning to catch a movie this week, I reckoned that you might want to give End of Watch a miss unless you have a lot of spare cash that you don’t know how to spend it. Anyhows, believe me, I like the movie plot; but the way the movie was shot kinda puts me off.
