Lots of awesome movies are going to be releasing soon and one of them is Disney’s “The Lone Ranger”.

The Lone Ranger will be releasing in Singapore on 4th July 2013, [yes, it happens to be US’s Independence Day] and I am really excited about it because it stars Johnny Depp.

An action-adventure film, this film is infused with thrills and humour and in The Lone Ranger, Native American Spirit Warrior, Tonto [Johnny Depp], recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid [Armie Hammer], a man of the law, into a legend of justice.

Taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction, the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

The Lone Ranger also stars Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson and Helena Bonham Carter, and is directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinski.

Personally, I enjoy watching Disney’s movies and if you’re a Disney fan like me or if you’re a fan of Johnny Depp, you have to catch Disney’s “The Lone Ranger” in Singapore cinemas this 4 July 2013! Thanks to Base Entertainment Asia, we were extremely privileged to receive the invitation to catch STOMP at the Marina Bay Sands Mastercard Theatre and we have to say this, it was a really stomping good time!

The last time I caught STOMP in Singapore was 4 years ago [2009] at the Esplanade Theatre and when I received news that they were going to come to Singapore and perform, I was really so excited. Never had I ever imagined that I would receive invites to catch them at their opening night!

As a former percussionist/drummer of The Strikeforce [now known as Urban Drum Crew], STOMP is not foreign to me and in fact, most of the performances that were put up by my former percussions street-band had an element of STOMP in it. To get an idea of what STOMP is like, check out a video of the Chingay Performance that my former percussions street-band put up.

Of course, we can’t compare ourselves to STOMP because STOMP is way much better and cooler!

If you’re wondering whether the STOMP performance that I caught in 2009 is the same as this year’s, the answer is no. When we caught STOMP yesterday, they performed new routines with new choreography and new music/rhythm.

From supermarket trolleys to Zippo lighters, plastic bags to bin lids, the team of 8 performers from STOMP even use the kitchen sink to hammer out an explosive head-banging rhythm.

As photography and video-recording were not allowed in the theatre, we only managed to get photos of STOMP when we attended their Sneak Peek Performance that took place just this afternoon at the Marina Bay Sands Ice-Skating Rink.

Here are some snippets that we managed to capture while at STOMP’s sneak peek performance at the Marina Bay Sands Ice-Skating Rink.

STOMP’s universal language of rhythm, theatre, comedy, and dance resonates well with the audience and we believe that it would set your feet stamping and fingers drumming. Truly, STOMP’s tight coordination and strong teamwork is rather evident by the splendid performance that they put up and if you haven’t watch STOMP in action before, it is probably something you ought to do once in your lifetime.

To catch STOMP live in action, you can book your tickets via marinabaysands.com/ticketing. Otherwise you can dial 6688-8826 or head down to the nearest SISTIC Counter near you.

STOMP will be here in Singapore till 23 June 2013 [this Sunday] at the Marina Bay Sands Mastercard Theatre and the showtimes are as follows:

Tuesday-Friday: 7.30PM
Saturday: 2PM and 7.30PM
Sunday: 1PM and 5PM

Ticket price ranges from SGD$65 to SGD$150 and the price listed exclude booking fees.

Don’t miss this opportunity to catch STOMP because they will only be here till 23 June 2013 [this Sunday]!

Last Saturday, we caught Man Of Steel at Golden Village [Bishan] and although I wouldn’t consider myself a Superman Fanboy, I really enjoyed the movie throughout. On the other hand, Jacqueline felt that Man Of Steel barely met her expectations because the movie wasn’t as action-packed as she hopes it to be. True enough, although there might be a lack of mind-blowing action scenes, I liked the movie because the story build-up was progressive and it depicts the other side of Superman that we rarely know about.
[Image Credit to Man Of Steel Facebook Page]

For those of you who probably don’t know the origins of Superman, Man Of Steel actually tells it all and from the movie, you will come to know that Superman isn’t really human but an alien from the planet of Krypton. Also, the “S” symbol on Superman’s outfit takes on a different meaning and personally, I really like how the story of Superman unfolds and truthfully, the movie soundtracks complements the movie pretty well.

There will be a sequel to Man Of Steel and it might be releasing next year. In case you’re wondering if there are any teaser trailers or anything of that sort after the movie credits, no, there isn’t. So, if you haven’t catch Man Of Steel and you’re wondering whether it is a movie worth catching, I highly recommend it.

Movie Plot [extracted from GV’s Website]:

A young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind.

Movie Trailer:

If anyone recall Monsters, Inc., you would probably remember Mike [the one-eye green monster] and Sulley [the large furry blue monster]. Now, here’s some interesting news because Monsters University, the prequel to Monsters, Inc., will be releasing in Singapore on 20 June 2013.

Movie Plot
Set about 10 years before the events of Monsters, Inc., serious yet intelligent Mike is extremely eager to start college, where he is majoring in scaring. Things don’t go quite as planned, though, when Sulley happens to be in the same fraternity as him. Sulley shows to be almost the exact opposite of Mike: playful, all-brawn, and most notably large; and he is also majoring in scaring. However, both Mike and Sulley soon become enemies in a rivalry that will tear their worlds apart, including going to jail, but which ultimately brings them together.

Personally, I am excited to catch Disney Pixar’s “Monsters University” because of Monsters, Inc. and it would be very interesting to catch the prequel to the movie. Not only that, Mike and Sulley are very adorable monsters and I like the way they worked together in Monsters, Inc. It would also be interesting to see how Mike and Sulley’s friendship started in Monsters University.

If you’re a big fan of Monsters, Inc. and you’re planning to catch Monsters University you might want to know that on Disney Studios Singapore Facebook Page, you can stand to win exclusive movie premiums and in-season passes to Monsters University by participating in the Monsters Aptitude Test [M.A.T] However, do take note that the M.A.T App does not run on mobile devices.

To find out what you’re in for, check out the Monsters University Movie Trailer:

Since Monsters University is going to be released during the June School Holidays, you might want to consider giving your little ones a movie treat. Catch Disney Pixar’s “Monsters University” in Singapore cinemas this 20 June 2013, and for more updates, like the Official Walt Disney Studios Singapore Facebook Page, follow @disneystudiosSG and subscribe to the Official Disney Studios Singapore YouTube Channel!

We caught the movie, “Fast and Furious 6” yesterday and it was a blast. If you haven’t watch it yet and you’re planning to do so today or the coming week, do remember to book your tickets online because the cinema halls were jam-packed with movie-goers when we were there.

Movie Plot [as quoted from GV’s website]:

Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson lead the returning cast of all-stars as the global blockbuster franchise built on speed races to its next continent in Fast & Furious 6.

Our Review of the Movie:

As Fast and Furious 6 is the first film in the series that has moved away from the underground car-racing theme of the series’ previous films, some movie-goers and fans might feel that it lack an element of car-racing. Nevertheless, the movie is full of non-stop explosive actions and if you love action movies, you mustn’t miss Fast and Furious 6.

For those of you whom are more familiar with the Fast and Furious movie series, you might find the ending rather saddening but it does give hints about the next sequel to the movie. In fact, Vin Diesel himself announced the the sequel would be released on 11 July 2014.

As with all of our movie reviews, we don’t want to spoil the movie for our readers and hence, if you’re dying to know the whole story and details of the movie, we suggest that you check out Wikipedia.

To simplify things, we will be mainly sharing about the LA8600, LA7400, and LA6620 in this blog entry because the other two models, LA6200 and LN5710, are much more simpler in features and we feel that it is better for you to pay a few hundreds more for either the LA7400 or LA6620 and get your money worth.

Now, let us bring you through to the Smart TV features that are available on the LA8600, LA7400, and LA6620.

Smart TV feature No. 1- Smart Control

The unique LG Magic Remote that comes with the LG 2013 Cinema 3D Smart TV can perform a variety of functions and one of it is the latest Magic Remote Gesture Control that allows you to change TV channel by drawing the channel number on the screen.

From LG Cinema3D Smart TV 2013

You can also perform a Voice Search function that is available on the Magic Remote to directly look for content on the TV and also on the Internet. As the Search Bar showing the results will be displayed in the bottom half of the screen, it makes multitasking possible.

From LG Cinema3D Smart TV 2013

If the Magic Remote is out of reach or is out of battery, the Motion Control is another smart control function which enables you to control the TV using your bare hands and adjust basic settings such as volume, channel, input source and power off. However, this feature is only available for the LA8600 and should you wish to use this feature on the LA7400 and LA6620, you will have to purchase the VC500 Camera and mount it on the TV.

To top it off, LG has even developed a TV Remote App that allows you to control the TV, Blu-ray Player, and Sound System from your smartphone. In case you’re wondering, the LG TV Remote App can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Smart TV feature No. 2- Smart Share

The Time Machine II is a function that allows you to record TV programmes, save them onto the TV’s built-in memory, and playback the recorded content. In fact, you can also schedule to record a TV programme even when the TV is not switched on. For the LA8600, the Time Machine II has an added feature that allows you to watch two TV channels simultaneously using the in-built twin turner set while you record a TV programme. If the TV’s built-in memory is insufficient for your usage, you can attach an external hard-disk drive to the TV and boost the memory capacity. Conservatively, a 2G storage capacity can have a recording time of about 75 minutes.

From LG Cinema3D Smart TV 2013

The LG Cloud is another function which we found quite interesting and it provides 5GB of free storage space that allows you to share photos, music and videos from any LG 2013 Cinema 3D Smart TV, Android smartphone and personal computers. To access the content on the LG 2013 Cinema 3D Smart TV, you can download the LG Cloud app which allows you to also manage files anytime and anywhere.

From LG Cinema3D Smart TV 2013

What is also new on the LG 2013 Cinema 3D Smart TV is the LG TV Tag On feature that uses Near Field Communication [NFC] technology to make sharing between your Android smartphone and the LG Smart TV possible. All you have to do is simply stick the NFC sticker at a convenient location, download the LG TV Tag On app from the Google Play Store onto your smartphone, hold your NFC-enabled smartphone against the NFC sticker, and then viola, whatever content that the TV is showing will appear on your smartphone for viewing. This is on top of the existing connectivity options such as WiDi and Miracast.

Smart TV feature No. 3- Smart Entertainment

The variety and scope of LG’s smart entertainment ensures that you will never be bored.

Here’s why!

Catering to the increasing gaming fans, acclaimed games titles long popular on smartphones and tablets such as Where’s My Water, Air Penguin and many more are available for download on the LG 2013 Cinema 3D Smart TV.

From LG Cinema3D Smart TV 2013

And that’s not all!

Korean pop fans will definitely like the K-Pop Zone where you can watch K-Pop celebrity interviews and music videos, many of which are exclusive to LG’s K-Pop Zone.

From LG Cinema3D Smart TV 2013

Besides the enlarged content pool, the latest 3D entertainment from LG also enables Dual Play, a feature whereby two gamers can play at the same time and enjoy a full-screen independent view through their Dual Play glasses while playing the traditional split screen games. This makes gaming even more fun and exciting because instead of seeing a split screen, each player will see a full screen of his/her own race field without being interfered by the other player’s view, resulting in a more immersive experience and preventing players from “cheating” by peeking at each other’s view.

With the 2.1 Speaker System which comes with an in-built subwoofer, the LA8600, LA7400, and LA6620 produces sound of incredible depth and liveliness, bringing the cinema home with booming exhilaration.

Plot of Iron Man 3:
Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Our Review of Iron Man 3:
Anyway, we caught the Iron Man 3 Movie yesterday and we really like it. The movie was full of explosive actions and a little bit of humour was also injected in certain scenes of the movie. The movie is rated PG and the duration of the movie is 2 hours and 11 minutes.

There were certain scenes in the movie that didn’t quite make sense and avid fans of Iron Man might be a little disappointed as the plot does not follow the original Iron Man Comics or Cartoons. However, if you’re into superheroes action movies, then Iron Man 3 might just be the right movie for you. Personally, I like the Iron Man 3 movie and my favourite character has got to be Colonel James Rhodes because he really trusts Tony Stark and is a patriotic leader whom really cherishes his friendship with Tony Stark. In fact, this is pretty evident in the movie if you have already watch it.

For those of you whom don’t have Cable TV at home, you might be wondering what exactly is Syfy because I have exactly the same question before coming to know what Syfy is. Even then, there were a handful of people whom have Cable TV at home but didn’t know about Syfy‘s existence as well.
Syfy was originally launched in 1992 as a SCI FI Channel and it is currently a media destination for imagination-based entertainment which does not limits itself to science fiction but also fantasy, paranormal, and adventure too. In Singapore, Syfy is available on Starhub Cable TV [Channel 526].

So now that you know what Syfy is, let’s go on to talk about Defiance, a 12-episode science fiction series that takes an unprecedented approach to storytelling by uniting scripted television and online gaming.

Here we were at the Screening Room last week for an exclusive preview screening of Defiance‘s 1st episode.

From Syfy Defiance Preview 2013

+Some answers to the Frequently Asked Questions about the Defiance Series+

From Syfy Defiance Preview 2013

What is the Defiance Series about?

Set in the near future, Defiance introduces an exotically transformed planet Earth where its landscapes are permanently altered following the sudden and tumultuous arrival of seven unique alien races. In this somewhat unknown and unpredictable landscape, the richly diverse, newly-formed civilization of humans and aliens must learn to co-exist peacefully.

What’s so special about the Defiance Series?
Five years in the making and with a budget of US$40 million for the first season, Defiance is Syfy’s biggest and most ambitious undertaking in its 20 year history. One unique thing about Defiance is that it takes an unprecedented approach to storytelling, uniting scripted television and online gaming for the very first time. This means that the weekly drama will have an impact on the game and gamers can actually have the opportunity to change the show as well.

How many episodes are there in the Defiance Series?
There are in total 12 episodes [13 hours] with the first episode being 2-hours long.

Thanks to Disney Studios Singapore and Nuffnang, Baby and I were given a pair of tickets to catch Oz The Great & Powerful and we really enjoyed watching the movie even though we caught it a little too late than the norm.

Here’s the Movie Plot [as extracted from GV’s website]:

When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot–fame and fortune are his for the taking–that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity–and even a bit of wizardry–Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

Our Review of the Movie:
We found Oz The Great & Powerful to be rather heartwarming and we really liked how the story unfolded. The casts acted really well and we really hope that there will be a sequel in the pipelines. The movie is suitable for children and we really like how the movie teaches values such as responsibility and accountability. Having said that, there could have been some improvements made because we found certain scenes lacking depth and elaboration. Anyways, the movie doesn’t follow exactly the way it is originally written by L. Frank Baum and it is 2 hours and 11 minutes long. If you’re looking for a fantasy-adventure sort of movie, this is one movie you got to catch!

Movie Trailer:

Just recently, we went to catch the movie, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” at Golden Village [Bishan] and it was super duper good. G.I. Joe: Retaliation was released on 28 March 2013 and the main stars are Channing Tatum, Bruce Willis, and Dwayne Johnson. The movie is 110 minutes long and it is rated PG-13.

Movie Plot [as extracted from GV’s Website]:

A follow-up to the 2009 release of G.I. JOE: RISE OF THE COBRA, which grossed over $300M worldwide, Paramount Pictures, MGM and Skydance Productions, in association with HASBRO, commenced the di Bonaventura production of G.I. JOE: RETALIATION.

In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence. The film stars D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce, Ray Stevenson, Channing Tatum with Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson. Directed by Jon M. Chu, and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner, from a screenplay by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick based on Hasbro’s G.I. Joe characters.

Our Review of the Movie:

Personally, we really like the movie and we will highly recommend you to watch it if you haven’t. The movie plot of G.I Joe: Retaliation is balanced and rather easy to follow. In fact, you don’t have to watch G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra in order to understand what G.I. Joe: Retaliation is all about. G.I. Joe: Retaliation is also full of explosive scenes and definitely action-packed. The actors in the movie really portrayed their roles really well. If you’re the sort of person whom enjoys action-packed movies, G.I. Joe: Retaliation is one movie you shouldn’t miss! Comparing G.I. Joe: Retaliation to G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra, G.I Joe: Retaliation is the better movie.
