In Singapore, the month of October is usually pretty “happening” and “exciting” as everyone seem to be gearing themselves up for some mass fright fest at Sentosa Spooktacular 2013. Afterall, Halloween falls in the month of October and people are now more receptive towards the extraordinary occasion as compared to the past.
If you’re not a fan of all things Halloween probably because you’re afraid of getting spooked by other people, why not get yourself spooked right at the warm comforts of your home? Yes, we know it sounds weird but if you don’t want to miss out on all the fun, one thing you can do is to host a Halloween party at home and get your friends to watch The Walking Dead Season 4 with you!

What’s The Walking Dead about?

The Walking Dead is an American horror drama television series developed by Frank Darabont and it is based on the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. The series stars Andrew Lincoln as sheriff’s deputy Rick Grimes, who awakens from a coma to find a post-apocalyptic world dominated by flesh-eating zombies, sets out to find his family, and encounters many other survivors along the way.

The Walking Dead is in its 4th season now and if you have missed the last 3 seasons, you really ought to catch them!

In the months since the third season drew to a close and fans were left reeling from the bloodbath that claimed the lives of many of the show’s original cast members, theories and questions have been spiralling and taking seed; will the prison community survive without Rick’s leadership? What has The Governor planned for his revenge on Rick and his group of survivors? These questions will finally be answered in the premiere episode of the fourth season, directed by horror veteran, Greg Nicotero.

Set in and around the prison, prepare to be thrown into a world where there are more walkers than humans and whom poses a threat like never before. Viewers will discover what happens to Rick as he fights to return to the man he once was while Daryl struggles with the loss of his brother and is also presented with the opportunity to be a leader. There will also be a number of new faces, some of whom will be familiar to fans of the graphic novels.

For viewers in Singapore, the zombie-fever takes over the FOX Movies Premium and it is currently showing every Sunday, 10pm on SingTel mio TV Channel 414 and StarHub TV Channel 622

And if you have decided to host your very own Halloween party, why not make it even more exciting by getting you and your friends dressed up as a zombie? To get some styling tips and ideas on becoming a zombie, you can download the free Dead Yourself App that allows you to transform your likeness into that of a photo-realistic walker with terrifying results. The photos can be edited with the app and you can even add some zombie eyes, mouths, and even props from The Walking Dead before sharing them on Facebook, Twitter and the public walker photo gallery! You can get the Dead Yourself App on the Apple App Store & Google Play or you can visit deadyourself.com

2 Guns was released in Singapore a week ago and both Jacqueline and I were very privileged to receive an invitation for the movie screening that was organised by my friend’s company, Manulife.
2 Guns Movie Synopsis [extracted from GV]

Academy Award(R) winner Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg lead an all-star cast in 2 Guns, an explosive action film that tracks two operatives from competing bureaus who are forced on the run together. But there is a big problem with their unique alliance: Neither knows that the other is an undercover federal agent.

Our Review of the Movie

A 2013 American action comedy film directed by Icelandic director, Baltasar Kormákur, and starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg, 2 Guns is based on a graphic novel series of the same name published by Boom! Studios.

Personally, we had an enjoyable time watching 2 Guns. The movie was full of explosive scenes and the storyline was good. Both Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg worked pretty well together and they portrayed their roles very well. Rated NC-16, 2 Guns is 1 hour 49 minutes long.

If you don’t feel like spending some cash to catch the movie, watching the trailer is more than enough to fill you in on what’s happening in the movie. 🙂

Thanks to Air Asia Singapore, we had the privilege of catching the movie, “Planes” by Walt Disney Pictures at Golden Village VivoCity and here’s our review of the movie.

Movie Synopsis of Planes:

A spin-off of Disney and Pixar’s 2006 animated film “Cars”, “Planes” takes off with an international cast of the fastest air racers around. It is a comedic film packed with action and adventure starring Dusty, a small town dreamer who longs to enter the most epic around-the-world air race, despite his fear of heights. With the help and support of a fleet of new and hilarious characters, Dusty wings his way into the biggest challenge of his life.

[Image Courtesy of Walt Disney Studios Singapore]

Our Review of Planes:

To be really honest, we felt as though we were watching the movie, “Cars” all over again because the story plot is predictable and not so original. As a matter of fact, we found “Cars” and “Planes” extremely similar and the only difference that sets them apart is; one has a theme entirely on cars and the other on planes. Spanning a running time of 1 hour 35 minutes, you might want to consider bringing your little ones for a movie treat but if you’re on budget constraints, we rather that you save your money for upcoming movies like Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World. Don’t get us wrong though; Planes is not entirely that bad because after all, it is a wholesome movie that teaches the values of resilience, discipline, and confidence.

Having said all these, Planes would probably entertain children [age 8 and below] more as compared to those whom have caught “Cars” before.

Movie Trailer of Planes:

Have a flying good weekend!

We were extremely privileged to have an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet the father and son duo, Rick Harrison and Corey Harrison from the Pawn Stars at Brewerkz yesterday and we had a blast partying with them over some beers and pizzas.
Brewerkz @ Riverside Point

“Rick Harrison” welcomes all guests to Brewerkz 😀

We had a rather big feast that’s overladen with calories but well it’s a party and we are supposed to have fun and not worry about anything else!

Specially crafted beers from Brewerkz that are specially produced for the party.

Interesting fact that we found @ Brewerkz

Honey Apricot Ale with Some Chips & Tomato Dip @ Brewerkz

Pepperoni Pizza @ Brewerkz

Om-nom-nom for the evening @ Brewerkz

Yummy brownies to complete the meal @ Brewerkz

Rick and Corey arrives at Brewerkz with style and with much fanfare.

As mentioned in our previous blog entry, the Pawn Stars is an American reality television series shown on the HISTORY and it takes you inside the colourful world of the pawn business. At the party, Rick and Corey appraised some items and one of them was a really old fire extinguisher.

Want to find out what Rick and Corey actually said when appraising some of the items that were brought by fans?

If you’re a fan of the Pawn Stars, do catch their new episodes that premiere every Monday at 10pm on the HISTORY that is available on StarHub Cable TV Channel 401!

Here’s a short video preview of what Pawn Stars is all about.

Well, if you subscribe to Starhub Cable TV, you probably would have access to HISTORY and if you’re the kind of person whom enjoys watching documentary programmes, historical fiction series, and reality television series, you must subscribe for HISTORY! Apart from the new episodes of Pawn Stars that premiere every Monday at 10pm on the HISTORY, there are some other exciting programmes like the “Vikings” that have been lined up and we’re pretty sure you would love it!

To wrap up this blog entry, here are some awesome photos that were taken at the party with the Pawn Stars!

A photo of the people from A+E Networks with Rick and Corey.

The best souvenir for the evening, a photo with Rick and Corey.

And of course, nothing beats attending such a fabulous party with my dearest shooting pictures for this blog entry.

Long before banks, ATMS and check-cashing services, there were pawn shops and pawning was the leading form of consumer credit in the United States until the 1950s. Even till today, pawn shops are still helping everyday people make ends meet and this explains why the pawning business in Singapore still exists.
So what is Pawn Stars all about?

Well, Pawn Stars is an American reality television series, shown on History, and produced by Leftfield Pictures. It takes you inside the colorful world of the pawn business and at the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop on the outskirts of Las Vegas, three generations of the Harrison family; grandfather Richard, son Rick, and grandson Corey, jointly run the family business, and there’s clashing and camaraderie every step of the way. The three men use their sharp eyes and skills to assess the value of items from the commonplace to the truly historic, including a 16th-century samurai sword, a Super Bowl ring, a Picasso painting and a 17th-century stay of execution. It’s up to them to determine what’s real and what’s fake, as they reveal the often surprising answer to the questions on everyone’s mind, “What’s the story behind it”? and “What’s it worth?”

Rick Harrison, 48, has been in the pawn business for 28 years and is an expert when it comes to spotting anything fake or stolen; and Corey Harrison, 30, began working at the pawnshop when he was nine and is expertly trained in the art of appraisal.

As home to the Pawn Stars, History premieres Season 9 [starting 22 July] and Season 10, delivering all-new Pawn Stars episodes every Monday at 10pm for the remainder of 2013! The History channel is available on StarHub TV Ch 401 and HD Ch 455.

If you’re a fan of the Pawn Stars, we have some great news for you!

The Pawn Stars are coming to Singapore from August 24 to August 27 and Singapore is the third stop in father and son duo, Rick and Corey Harrison’s, first trip to Asia. Other destinations include Tokyo, Manila, Kuala Lumpur and New Delhi.

A meet-and-greet session with Rick and Corey Harrison is being organised by the History channel and it will be taking place on 25 August, Sunday from 12pm, at Star Vista. Fans can meet and interact with the Pawn Stars in person as they share more about the series and their passion for the pawning business. The Pawn Stars will also be on the lookout for great buys as they tour around some of the iconic sites of Singapore and sample the world famous culinary treats.

The Pawn Stars Asia Tour is brought to you by Singapore’s award-winning microbrewery restaurant, Brewerkz Restaurant & Microbrewery and if you would like more details on how to be a part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet your favourite Pawn Stars, check out History Asia Tv’s Facebook Page!

Two days ago, we were extremely privileged and honoured to have been invited to the Gala Night of The Phantom of the Opera at the Marina Bay Sands [Mastercard Theatre] and we really enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.

We felt like superstars! 😛

In case you’re wondering, The Phantom of the Opera is a musical that tells a heart-wrenching story of the mysterious, hideously disfigured Phantom who lives beneath the Paris Opera House, and his obsession with the young singer Christine. Disguised as the ‘Angel of Music’ he devotes himself to creating a new opera star, and winning her love from his rival, Raoul, while exercising a reign of terror over the Opera House.

The theatre was packed with people even before the performance commence.

The really beautiful and stunning stage decoration.

The team from The Phantom of the Opera has performed in Singapore at the Kallang Theatre in 1995 and at the Esplanade Theatre in 2007. This year, The Phantom of the Opera will be showing at the Marina Bay Sands, Mastercard Theatre and they will performing here in Singapore till 25 August 2013!

Now, if you haven’t watch The Phantom of the Opera before, you absolutely have to catch it! Even as we’re typing this blog post, recalling our experience certainly gives us the goosebumps because it was our first time watching The Phantom of the Opera and it has left quite a lasting impression on us. In fact, we felt our emotions running high when we were in the theatre watching the splendid performance.

A photo with the suave Anthony Downing whom acted as Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera.

With 130 cast, crew and orchestra members, jaw-dropping scenery, breathtaking special effects, and more than 230 stunning costumes, The Phantom of the Opera contains some of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most famous and stirring music.

Music of the Night is our all-time favourite music in The Phantom of the Opera.

To be honest, The Phantom of the Opera is a show that you must catch at least once in your lifetime. As for us, we will definitely be catching it the next time it returns to Singapore or if we’re travelling overseas to London/New York.

The Phantom of the Opera is the world’s most successful and popular musical, and the longest-running show on Broadway. It celebrated its 27th anniversary on the West End stage last year, and continues to play to full houses nightly in London, New York and around the world. The Phantom of the Opera has been seen by over 130 million people worldwide, has been performed in more than 27 countries, has won over 50 major theatre awards, and has grossed more than US$5.6 billion.

The Phantom awaits your presence..

We caught the movie, “Despicable Me 2” yesterday at Cathay [Ang Mo Kio Hub] and it wasn’t as good as we expected it to be. When movie trailers for Despicable Me 2 were released quite sometime ago, it built up much hype, and expectations were raised somewhat, but we personally feel that its predecessor, “Despicable Me”, was way much better.
Movie Trailer for Despicable Me 2

The story build-up for Despicable Me 2 was progressive but slow and though it is supposed to be an adventure comedy film, we felt that the “forced” humour did not seem to take off quite well. Undeniably, the minions are really adorable, funny, and cute; and what we do like about the movie is the family-oriented theme.

[Image Credits to Despicable Me 2 Facebook Page]

Nevertheless, if you have caught all other movies except this one, you might want to watch Despicable Me 2 just to pass time; otherwise, you might want to consider saving up that money for new upcoming movies.

Movie Plot [from Golden Village Website]:
In Summer 2013, get ready for more minion madness in Despicable Me 2. Chris Meledandri and his acclaimed filmmaking team create an all-new comedy animated adventure featuring the return of Gru (Steve Carell), the girls, the unpredictably hilarious minions…and a host of new and outrageously funny characters.

Seriously, I’m never a fan of horror films and it is totally not my cup of tea. In fact, I have my own personal reasons for not watching horror movies or even going for horror trails but I do know of people whom enjoy this sort of stuffs and I totally respect and salute them for their courage and bravery.
As such, for all you thrill-seekers out there, I bring you great news and that is, for the first time ever, Sentosa will be teaming up with renowned Thai movie production studios, GMM Tai Hub Co. Ltd. [GTH], to jointly produce Sentosa’s annual signature Halloween event, the Sentosa Spooktacular.

[Image Credit to Sentosa Spooktacular Facebook Page]

If you don’t know, GTH is the creator of international horror hits such as Coming Soon, Shutter, Body, Dorm and Pee Mak, and I’m pretty sure most people would have at least caught one of GTH’s horror films. As for myself, I caught Shutter and it really scared the ____ out of me. With GTH coming onboard to co-produce the Sentosa Spooktacular 2013, GTH will bring their unique brand of storytelling that is deeply-rooted in Asian horror folklore to redefine this year’s edition of Sentosa Spooktacular.

The Sentosa Spooktacular 2013 is set to take place for six nights in October and November, and fans of classic Thai horror films can expect to have their nerves tested in up to five elaborately themed and haunted trails inspired by GTH’s internationally acclaimed films namely, Coming Soon, Shutter, Pee Mak, Dorm and Body. These trails will be held once again at Fort Siloso.

Just how spooky is Sentosa Spooktacular 2013 is going to be?

Find out what Mr Yongyoot Thongkongtoon, Senior Director of International Business for GTH, has to say, “Sentosa Spooktacular has been synonymous with Asia’s scariest fun and is one of the biggest Halloween events in Singapore. At GTH, we want people to experience the same terror, scares and a whole host of other emotions that are akin to watching a Thai horror movie. Our experienced team of directors, producers and set builders will use various storytelling techniques to capture the essence of Asian and Thai horror in these five trails. Together with the Sentosa team, GTH will ensure that this year’s Spooktacular will be one that visitors will never forget”.

[Image Credit to Sentosa Spooktacular Facebook Page]

Mr. Yongyoot Thongkongtoon’s cinematic experience include his role as producer in Thai horror hits Dorm (2006), Alone (2007), Body (2007), 4BIA (2008), Coming Soon (2008), and Phobia 2 (2009).

The collaboration with GTH will see an infusion of Thai horror popularized by recent Thai cinematography.

Beautiful Ghost wife ‘Nak’ from Pee Mak, vengeful sprits such as ‘Dararai’ from Body and ‘Netre’ from Shutter, will join arms with ‘Wichien’, the angry child spirit from Dorm, as well as the gruesome and iconic ‘Chaba’, who cursed and took the lives of movie goers in the frightful film, Coming Soon; in making their nether world crossover to Fort Siloso come October 2013.

The five will add to the line-up of Spooktacular’s famed resident ghoul ambassadors such as the Pontianak, the Chinese Ghost Bride, the Dead Soldier and the Chinese Vampire (Jiang Shi), who were successfully hired last year after their public displays and performances won over Sentosa Spooktacular’s organisers.

[Image Credit to Sentosa Spooktacular Facebook Page]

Together, these two groups of distinctively Asian supernaturals will come together to populate Fort Siloso and its five new Horror Trails for a fright fest filled with spine-chilling encounters of ‘spooktacular’ proportions.

[Image Credit to Sentosa Spooktacular Facebook Page]

If you want to play a part in scaring the ____ out of people, you can also participate in a video contest where the winner can stand a chance to be a talent at Spooktacular. What’s more, you can be shortlisted for an audition for a GTH movie too!

If you are interested, you are encouraged to show-off your acting chops by submitting video re-enactments of scenes from a choice of Thai horror films; Shutter, Pee Mak, Body, Dorm or Coming Soon.
