All times local.

Singaporeans’ love for Japanese food is pretty evident and it doesn’t come as a surprise because we often see long queue lines forming outside Singapore’s top Japanese restaurants. Recently, we stumbled upon IZA, a newly-opened Izakaya Bar in the charming Siglap neighbourhood and we totally fell in love with it.

Open daily from 6 pm till 1 am, IZA offers a casual and unpretentious Japanese-styled bar and restaurant that serves affordable kushiyaki fare and drinks amidst a homey but yet modern ambience.

Designed with plenty of group seating that is perfect for families and communal dining, you can let your hair down, bond and celebrate the day over drinks and an amazingly wallet-friendly food menu.

When we were there, we tried 3 of their new and innovative creations that happen to be the crowd favourites and we were told that they sell out pretty quickly each night.

Four-Ton Chawanmushi $4.50***

The only one-of-its-kind in Singapore, the Four-Ton Chawanmushi integrates a blend of century egg, salted egg, quail egg and the traditional chicken egg into an indulgent, steamed four-egg delight.

Fresh Whole Seabass with Home-made Chilli $28***

We definitely enjoyed this one. Oven-baked fresh whole Seabass perfectly complemented with home-made Chilli. This dish has the Sambal Chilli Stringray kind of ‘feel’ that we usually get from East Coast Lagoon Food Village.

Otah Tamago $6.90

Otah Tamago which combines Japanese-rolled omelette with fragrant Otah from Muar. The Otah has certainly overpowered the Tamago. We wonder if IZA is up for an even more quirky kind of local creation like Chicken Rice Tamago?

We also had other delectable dishes such as:

Table Treats

  • Grilled Oysters, 3 Pieces ($12)***
  • Grilled Avocado ($5.00)
  • Grilled Pineapple ($2.00)***
  • Stuffed Taupok Special, 1 Piece ($3.00)
  • Deep Fried Chicken Soft-Bone ($6.00)

Skewers

  • Fresh Prawns ($3.50)***
  • Hand-made Chicken & Pork Meatball ($3.50)***
  • Chicken Mid-Joint ($1.90)***
  • Bacon Wrapped Lychee ($2.80)***
  • Lady’s Finger ($1.90)***

Carbs

  • Hae Bee Hiam Spaghetti ($11.90)***

***must-try dishes!

We probably don’t have to tell you how good the food is because it is seriously damn good. You just got to try it for yourself to believe.

What We LOVE About IZA

Wallet-Friendly Food & Beverage Menu

For the fresh and tasty food that patrons are getting, the prices are seriously very affordable and furthermore, there’s no service charge unlike most other dining establishments in Singapore. This thus makes IZA an ideal dining place for couples who are on a budget.

Wide Selection of Alcoholic Beverages Including Japanese Craft Beers & Sakes

There’s a wide selection of alcoholic beverages that IZA serves and they include Japanese Craft Beers like Coedo Beniaka (best paired with meat) and Coedo Shiro (best paired with seafood and vegetables). For Sake, IZA serves the Tengumai Junmai Daiginjo and Fudoh Special Junmai.

Warm and Welcoming Service Staff & Ambience

The service staff were really attentive and responsive to our needs. Needless to say, it was such a pleasant dining experience that we will definitely be back for more. The best part of the dining experience? You won’t leave smelling like a grill after dining at IZA!

December is the time of the year that we all start to look back and reflect on our lives. You may have some fond memories of the year so far. You might have done everything you have wanted and more. But you may also be wanting to make some changes because you feel like you are at a crossroads in your life.

It is understandable. We all have moments where we wonder what life’s all about? Did we make the right career choice? Do we not enjoy going to work each day? Do we find life tough for one reason or another?

Well…life’s never always plain sailing and it is often when we go through these situations in life that we want to make the changes that will have the most impact. The new year is nearly here, and it is never too late to start thinking about the goals that we want to set. Whether it’s losing weight, getting fitter, or travelling for an extended period of time, it is about time that you start your preparation.

For those who are seriously considering an extended holiday away from your normal routine and commitments; here are ten things you need to consider:

1. Decide On Where You Want To Go

One of the biggest and perhaps most exciting things to do when it comes to taking an extended holiday is to consider where to go. The world is your oyster, so to speak, and the options are endless. Of course, one of the big things to remember is that some countries have different guidelines and visas. You may need to think about declaring that you are going to work there and actually have a confirmation of how long you intend to stay there. Places like USA, Australia, Malaysia, and Asia are all popular choices. However, don’t just be set on one place, consider a few before you fully make up your mind.

2. Consider Where You Might Stay And How You Might Go About It

Consider where you might stay and how you might go about it in terms of leasing, longer stays in hotels, or even mixing things up a little. Of course, leasing has its advantages because you can establish some form of routine like cooking your own food and doing the laundry. A quick look online at houses for rent in Malaysia or apartments in Australia, for example, can quickly identify whether there are savings to be made. However, you may also like the idea of hotel living, as you don’t need to worry about any day to day tasks like cleaning and cooking. A great idea would be to mix up the two.

3. Will You Work Over There?

Another thing to think about when it comes to extended holidays is what you might do with your time. Will you be spending it sightseeing or do you want to work and experience life out there in a different working environment? Of course, the main thing to think about would be the money side of things. You need to ensure that you can afford to stay out there and working abroad can help to supplement your living expenses. However, ensure that you obtain the right visas or clearance to work before doing it to avoid getting into any kind of trouble.

4. Make Lists

Before you travel, you may feel completely overwhelmed as departure day draws closer. Making some lists will definitely benefit you as you navigate through the tasks you need to complete before setting foot on the plane. A great tip is to have a pen and notepad close by, and every time something comes to mind, write it down, and every time you complete a task, cross it off.

5. Be Well Researched

Making a decision on where you want to go must have you feeling elated but before you go, ensure you know all there is to know by heading on to the Internet to do a search. Blog posts and TripAdvisor reviews are valuable sources of information. Even, putting up a “ask for recommendations” status on Facebook is helpful as you may have someone in your followers or friends list who has been there before and can give you some insider info on places to eat, things to do and how to go about living there. You never know what knowledge you might pick up.

6. Try And Go On A Healthy Lifestyle Change Before You Go

You definitely want to enjoy yourself on your trip away, and so while you are waiting for the big departure day to arrive, use the time to get healthy and change your lifestyle a bit. You certainly don’t want the guilt when you arrive and indulge in the tasty foods or desserts.

7. Visit Your GP And Get Fully Checked Over

Another thing to add to your list is to go to your GP and get a full health check. The last thing you want is to be in a foreign country and fall ill with something that could have been prevented. Of course, things can’t always be predicted but it is better to be safe than sorry. You might also want to check if you need any vaccinations before you go to avoid any further issues when you get there.

8. Be Organised With Your Packing

Packing may seem like a real tough task to overcome, especially because you are going away for a long time, but the best thing to do in this situation is to be as organised as possible. Another great tip is to just pack the things that you want. Once you are there, you can always buy the things you need as you go along. Here’s a list of the top 25 travel packing hacks and tips!

9. Tidy Up Any Loose Ends Before You Go

Leaving for an extended holiday may mean that you have decided to sell your place or maybe rent it out. That might mean that you have furniture to get rid of or storage to organise. You might also need to think about paying off any odd debts you have, closing off utility accounts, and even stopping phone contracts.

10. Cover All Angles

Finally, make sure you cover all angles before you go. Have the necessary travel insurance in place to cover you, take photocopies of your passport and identifications, print off all documents, and have them organised in a wallet for safe keeping. Make sure you can access money overseas and that you have the right accounts for spending abroad. Lastly, make sure friends and family members have your location details and itinerary.

Now you’re ready and all geared up for your extended holiday!

I hope this article has helped you to think about everything you would need to consider before taking that extended holiday. If you do find yourself thinking about doing this next year, then take that leap of faith and go for it!

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is a 2017 American action adventure comedy film directed by Jake Kasdan and written by Kasdan, Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, from a story by McKenna. A standalone sequel to Jumanji (1995), the film stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas, and Bobby Cannavale. The film is also a tribute to Robin Williams, star of the original film, who died in 2014.

In July 2012, rumours emerged that a remake of the film Jumanji was already in development. While many fans theorised whether the film was a sequel or a reboot, the second trailer, which was released on September 20, 2017, revealed that the film takes place over twenty years after the events of the first film.

Principal photography began in September 2016 in Honolulu, Hawaii and filming wrapped in Atlanta, Georgia in December 2016.

While many people would refer Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle as Jumanji 2, I prefer the former.

Not wanting to spoil the movie for those who haven’t watched it yet, the following is a plot summary of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

In the brand new adventure Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the tables are turned as four teenagers in detention are sucked into the world of Jumanji. When they discover an old video game console with a game they’ve never heard of, they are immediately thrust into the game’s jungle setting, into the bodies of their avatars, played by Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan. What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji –Jumanji plays you. They’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, or they’ll be stuck in the game forever….

My personal opinion of the film?

Jacqueline and I totally enjoyed Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and we had such a hilarious time throughout the movie that we found ourselves laughing quite a lot. It wasn’t difficult for the film to captivate our attention and we were so well-absorbed that our time at the cinema seemed like a roller-coaster ride that ended way too soon.

The familiar star-studded cast also portrayed their characters really well and when you combine Kevin Hart and Jack Black in the line-up, you can expect lots of humour and laughter. While a large part of the film was coherent; I didn’t quite like how the film turned out towards the end because a lot of details were missing.

Nonetheless, if you want a fun time at the cinema, I will definitely recommend this adventure-comedy film that guarantees lots of laughter.

I believe there are four key considerations when buying a phone case and what people eventually end up buying is dependent on which factor they consider the most important.

  1. Durability & Protection
  2. Affordability
  3. Design & Style
  4. Functionality

For me, durability & protection is the key factor.

The iPhone X is the most expensive phone that I have bought to date and obviously, with such a heavy investment; I will do whatever it takes to protect my phone. As an outdoor practitioner; dust, impact, and rain is my phone’s nemesis and of all the phone cases that I have used so far, I have personally found OtterBox and LifeProof to be the most reliable.

Currently, I am using LifeProof’s Slam Casing for my iPhone X and its price of SGD$69.90 is pretty decent. Though the casing seems to add more bulk and weight to my phone, I can feel that it is well built and very hardy. One thing that I really like about LifeProof’s Slam Casing is the transparent shell that reveals the iPhone X’s factory finish. This is unlike many other phone casings where the back of the phone is hidden underneath.

While I do agree that LifeProof’s phone casing for the iPhone X is quite limited in terms of design and style, its long-lasting durability is what captured my attention. As absurd as it may sound, the durability and lifespan of LifeProof’s Slam Casing might even outlive that of my phone’s.

If design and style is your top consideration, OtterBox’s phone casings make excellent choices. There’s definitely no compromise on the quality of phone protection and there are a variety of designs to choose from with prices starting from SGD$59 onwards.

One thing that OtterBox has that LifeProof doesn’t is the glass screen protector and as far as I know, OtterBox’s glass screen protector is compatible with LifeProof’s phone casings as well.

However, don’t get me wrong. I’m not suggesting that OtterBox is better than LifeProof and vice-versa. In fact, both phone case brands are well-known for their build and quality and I would highly recommend either of them for phone protection. It’s just that OtterBox phone cases may be more suitable for the contemporary lifestyle while LifeProof phone cases may be more suitable for the rugged and adventurous lifestyle.

Are there any other phone cases you use that you will like to recommend? Feel free to comment and share your recommendations below!

This is our first-ever post on the topic of cryptocurrency and if you’re new to this whole idea, a cryptocurrency is a digital asset designed to work as a medium of exchange using cryptography to secure the transactions, to control the creation of additional units, and to verify the transfer of assets. Bitcoin is one such example and in recent months, you might have even come across various ICO whitepapers that are targeted at potential investors.

Through an ICO, investors usually gain ownership of cryptocurrency, whose value may rise or fall, rather than shares or voting rights in the company; and personally, I have been looking at some ICOs myself and one particular ICO that recently caught my attention was the TEKY ICO because it is relevant to the field of business that I am currently in.

In an ever-changing world that is based more and more on technological advances, it has become pertinent that the next generation improves their competitive capacity beyond robotic workforce and artificial intelligence. The traditional approach to education is obsolete due to the disruption caused by modern technology and personally, I feel that the educational landscape will undergo even more transformation in the coming years.

The TEKY ICO

Founded in June 2016, TEKY was recognized by Melbourne University and the Australian Government as the most Outstanding project that could have an impact on future society in Southeast Asia and it was chosen as a Top 4 project in the NextGen Women Entrepreneurs Program in Switzerland. NFT Token holders will be able to use Cryptocurrency to purchase a wide array of smart tech-toys and gadgets for all ages via the TEKY e-retail shop located at MEK.store or sign up for educational courses at TEKY Academy.

MEK.store is slated to be launched in 2018 to provide technology products and smart toys for all ages through a cross-border drop-ship model with two distribution centres in the USA and China and it is one of the rare & first e-Commerce websites in the world that accept payments in different cryptocurrencies.

TEKY is a Technology Academy for children from 4 to 17 years old in 3 main categories including Programming & Application Development, Robotics & Engineering, and 3D Technology & Multimedia at its Lab chains, school partners, franchisees, and e-learning platform. This is the first company which allow payments by cryptocurrency for both online and offline courses.

During a recent seminar, Ms. Emme Dao – Group CEO & Founder TEKY said, “It is a blessing to be able to launch the world’s first Cryptocurrency token that will be used for the betterment of the next generation. TKC is the first and only token that could be used for household needs and the learning demands of kids. This will help TKC to be accepted in the community and become a popular digital currency for consuming and learning in the future.”

While a lot of ICO’s are a shot in the dark (with no ready product) as far as investing is concerned, this new TEKY ICO that is targeted at buyers from Southeast Asia, China, Russia, Japan, South Korea and India is considered to be a very safe investment due to its sustainable business model. TEKY’s business also stands out from the crowd for being researched, developed and operated since May 2015 in practice before ICO. Early investors can expect a high probability of producing huge returns if tokens are purchased during the ICO Pre-Sale.

The ICO Pre-Sale for this highly anticipated and sought after ICO will begin on November 11th, 2017 and will run through December 10th, 2017. The ICO will then open to the public on December 15th, 2017 and run through January 14th, 2018. Only 280,000,000 tokens will be issued and once they are gone, they are gone. Attractive bonuses of up to 40% will be given to early Pre-Sale investors. When Pre-Sale closes, investors will still receive up to a 25% bonus if purchased during the second stage of the ICO launch.

TEKY is an active established business that is growing rapidly and TEKY’s goal is to provide investors with the most attractive terms and conditions to invest and gain profit, including 3 main benefits:

  1. TKC Tokens could be used to purchase any product on MEK.store and used for courses at TEKY Academy;
  2. Keep TKC tokens to receive dividends from the company;
  3. Freely trade TKC Tokens on Crypto Currency Exchange platforms for profit;

Pre ICO: Nov 11 – Dec 10 (enjoy 40% token bonus)

ICO: Dec 15 – Jan 14, 2018 (enjoy 25% token)

Will I invest in TEKY ICO?

Well, I would because I see TEKY’s potential in the education business and their expertise and experience in developing and delivering STEAM programmes for children are what appeals greatly to me. Furthermore, investing in TEKY ICO is pretty affordable right now. For a minimum required sum of investment which is USD$50, it will give you approximately 311 TKC; which also means that 1 TKC is currently worth about USD$0.161. But of course, every investment comes with a risk and before putting your hard earned dollar into an investment, you should find out more information about it.

The ADDAMS FAMILY is bringing their entire clan, whether living, dead or undecided, to the MES Theatre at Mediacorp. Direct from the UK, this production showcases a brand new orchestration and presentation you will not want to miss!

Written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, the creators of multi award-winning Jersey Boys, and music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa; THE ADDAMS FAMILY musical comedy features an original story and every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the princess of darkness, has grown up and kept a shocking secret that only

Gomez knows; she’s fallen in love with a sweet smart young man from a normal respectable family! And if that weren’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keeping this secret from his beloved wife, Morticia.

Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents. Two different worlds are about to collide. Will love triumph, or will everyone go home vaguely depressed?

Our Take On THE ADDAMS FAMILY

THE ADDAMS FAMILY Musical Comedy is witty, funny, and there is never a dull moment. The stage props and settings are intricately designed and all the casts put up such a splendid performance that it did not feel like we sat for 2.5 hours.

However, on the flip side; we don’t know if it’s just us but we feel that the sound quality did not do the musical much justice. We’re not sure if it is due to the poor acoustics of the venue or the audio equipment set-up but we are quite certain that there is definitely some sound issues that need to be ironed out.

Having delighted hundreds of thousands of theatregoers in the UK, THE ADDAMS FAMILY musical comedy is a great theatre visit for both the young and old. If you need a happy pill, THE ADDAMS FAMILY is it!

Come and enjoy the great performance of the supremely talented cast, a fantastic musical score, big dance numbers and fun packed script today!

One of the world’s best-loved musicals, “THE SOUND OF MUSIC” is now showing at the MasterCard Theatres, Marina Bay Sands to a star-studded affair, with tickets to the critically acclaimed show being the hottest in town. Due to popular demand, the season has also been extended and will run until 3 December 2017.

This highly-acclaimed production comes from the home of West End musical theatre – the famous London Palladium – where the lavish and dazzling show celebrated a record-breaking 954 performances and was seen by over two million people.  In Singapore, the show played to almost 70,000 people during its five-week season in July/August 2014.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC tells the uplifting true story of Maria, the fun-loving governess who changes the lives of the widowed Captain von Trapp and his seven children by re-introducing them to music, culminating in the family’s escape across the Austrian mountains as tensions rise prior to the outbreak of World War II.

With its unforgettable score, THE SOUND OF MUSIC touches the hearts of all ages and contains some of the most memorable songs ever performed on the musical theatre stage including My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Climb Ev’ry Mountain, Edelweiss, The Lonely Goatherd, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, and of course the glorious title song The Sound of Music.

Additionally, eighteen of Singapore’s most able young actors and actresses will play the coveted roles of six of the seven von Trapp children, with three children chosen to alternate each character. The children come from all corners of Singapore and will perform in rotation throughout the season as the small and cute Gretl, the brothers Friedrich and Kurt, as well as their sisters Marta, Brigitta, and Louisa.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC’S original score is a result of the genius output of composer Richard Rodgers collaborating with the lyricist and librettist Oscar Hammerstein. The original 1959 Broadway production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and was Rogers and Hammerstein’s biggest success.  The 1965 movie starring Julie Andrews as Maria won five Oscars, including Best Picture, and remains one of the most popular movies of all time.

Our Take On THE SOUND OF MUSIC

The SOUND OF MUSIC is truly a classic and although it was our first time watching the SOUND OF MUSIC musical, we enjoyed the splendid performance so much that we could not stop humming to the songs.  In fact, watching the musical reminded us of the awesome time we had in Europe and we wouldn’t mind watching the Sound of Music a second time.

If you are keen to know the real story of the Von Trapp Family after watching the Sound of Music musical, you can check it out here. If you’re travelling to the United States and you have been inspired by the Sound of Music musical, you can visit the Trapp Family Lodge owned by the Von Trapp Family.

Audio House is the first electronics store in Singapore to challenge the local market with a completely cashless electronics showroom concept and they have been around as a local homegrown electronics chain since 1998.

 Audio House @ Bendemeer Road
Audio House @ Bendemeer Road

I am pretty sure many local Singaporeans will probably remember Audio House @ Liang Court and a Google search will reveal numerous positive and negative reviews about its range of products and service.

While I can’t deny what others might have experienced when they were there (because I wasn’t there to witness their experience); my experience with Audio House was overall a pleasant and positive one.

My key purpose in visiting Audio House was to purchase a Vacuum Cleaner and a Dehumidifier and I have been eyeing on the Karcher Water Filter Vacuum Cleaner with HEPA and the EuropAce 3-in-1 Dehumidifier for some time now.

In case you’re wondering why I have been eyeing on the Karcher Water Filter Vacuum Cleaner with HEPA, here’s a video that demonstrates its features.

Unfortunately, although Audio House does carry EuropAce’s Dehumidifier, they didn’t have the model that I wanted and so I only bought the Karcher Water Filter Vacuum Cleaner and a Toyomi Bread Toaster, all for only $425.

Here’s What I Like About Shopping at Audio House:

Exclusive Hot Stuff

For 10 days from 11 to 20 November 2017, Audio House will be giving out free SGD$100 vouchers to all new members who sign up at audiohouse.com.sg. These vouchers will be given in SGD$20 denominations and new members can offset each SGD$20 voucher with every SGD$100 spent.

How To Use The Free SGD$100 Voucher to your Advantage?

If you only have got one item that you want to get, use the free SGD$100 Vouchers to get an item that’s below SGD$500. If you have a few big ticket items like a fridge, television, washing machine and kitchen hood, hob or stove; rank them according to their prices and stagger between 2 options where Option A is to get SGD$20 vouchers for every SGD$100 spent which you can only use to offset your next purchase or Option B is to utilise the SGD$20 vouchers and still get a 3% vouchers which you can only use to offset for your next purchase.

At the end of the day, just remember that you are buying one item at a retail price to get the 2nd item at a 20% discount and if the value of your 2nd item is more your 1st item, you get an additional 3% voucher of the balance you pay (after the 20% discount) to offset for your 3rd item.

Let me present you 2 Scenarios…

For example, if you want to get the following household appliances:

  1. Television ($3000)- Option A gives you SGD$600 vouchers
  2. Fridge ($2000)- Option A gives you SGD$400 vouchers
  3. Kitchen Stove Bundle ($2000)- Option A gives you SGD$400 vouchers
  4. Vacuum Cleaner ($800)- Option A gives you SGD$160 vouchers

The total normal retail costs (without any discounts) will be $7800.

Scenario 1

Step 1: Buy the Television (SGD$3000) and Vacuum Cleaner (SGD$800) and go for Option A to get SGD$760 vouchers

Step 2: Then buy the Fridge (SGD$2000) and Kitchen Stove Bundle (SGD$2000) and go for Option B: SGD$2000 + SGD$2000 – SGD$760 vouchers = SGD$3240 and still get SGD$97.20 vouchers (3% of SGD$3240).

The total will be: Step 1 (SGD$3800) + Step 2 (SGD$3240) = SGD$7040 and you still have SGD$97.20 vouchers (for future purchases)

Scenario 2

Step 1: Buy the Fridge (SGD$2000) and Kitchen Stove Bundle (SGD$2000) and go for Option A to get SGD$800 vouchers

Step 2: Then buy the Television (SGD$3000) and Vacuum Cleaner (SGD$800) and go for Option B: SGD$3000 + SGD$800 – SGD$760 (you cannot use all SGD$800 because you can only offset SGD$20 for every SGD$100 purchased) = SGD$3040 and get SGD$91.20 vouchers (3% of SGD$3040).

Total: Step 1 (SGD$4000) + Step 2 (SGD$3040) = SGD$7040 and you still have SGD$91.20 + SGD$40 balance from the SGD$800 vouchers after offsetting SGD$760) for future purchases

Would you rather spend SGD$7040 and have SGD$97.20 vouchers for future uses (Scenario 1) or would you rather spend the same amount (SGD$7040) and have SGD$131.20 for future uses (Scenario 2)?

That’s not all!

The icing on the cake is when you charge your purchases to a credit card that offers you a cashback (just so you know, some credit cards offer up to 1.5% cashback)!

5 Tips For New Homeowners To Get The Most Value

To get the most value out of your hard-earned dollar; here are 5 tips I have for new homeowners who are going to purchase their household appliances:

  1. Sign up for a Credit Card that offers Cashback and sign up to be an Audio House Member if you haven’t
  2. Create a list of all the consumer and household electronics / appliances that you need to purchase
  3. Sign in to Audio House to get the member’s price for the things you want to purchase
  4. Compare and contrast the prices for a particular product you want with other retailers
