Hello Everyone,
Baby and I caught “The Amazing Spider-Man” and it is a must-watch for every Marvel Fan! Honestly, I have absolutely no idea why the movie was released a week earlier than the US and because I so badly wanted to catch the movie [because there weren’t any other movies that caught my eye], we had to pay $12 per ticket [actually we didn’t pay. We utilised our complimentary GV movie vouchers that were given to us]; in other words, we caught The Amazing Spider-Man for free!
Before I proceed to give you our opinion of the movie, here are some background of the movie that you readers might want to know about:
In case you didn’t know, Spider-Man 4 was the original intention that Sony Pictures intended to release. Unfortunately, the plan was cancelled and Sony Pictures decided to opt for a reboot with the same production team rather than another sequel to Spider-Man 3. Whether it was a disappointment or not, the film has generally received positive reviews but some critics did mention that certain elements of the film were very similar to 2002’s Spider-Man movie.
Movie Plot:
The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets.
As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.
Our Opinion of the Movie:
Out of a rating of 5, we would probably give it a 3.5 because the movie had not quite met our expectations. But if you are wondering whether it is well-worth the money, we would say that for now it is, considering the fact that the other movies that are showing right now are not that appealing. While we really enjoyed the explosive actions and impressive CG of the movie, and how the romance between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy were being developed and portrayed, the storyline is a tad too predictable because it bears similar resemblances to the 2002’s Spider-Man movie. And in case you’re wondering why Mary Jane was not in the movie, this is because, Gwen Stacy is Peter Parker’s first love and Mary Jane only came into the picture after the tragic death of Gwen Stacy. We figured that Gwen Stacy’s death would be quite a sad story especially when the portrayal of both characters in the movie left quite an impression.
Lastly, don’t be in a hurry to leave the cinema right after the movie ends as there is a short teaser which we believe would be related to the next movie sequel of Spider-Man. Only when you have caught the short teaser should you then leave the cinema.
