Last Saturday, we attended the Singapore Blog Awards Ceremony 2013 that was organised at Shanghai Dolly by OMY and it was a good time of catching up with our friends from the blogosphere. This annual event is a rather big event for bloggers and it always gets bigger and better every year. The theme for this year’s Singapore Blog Awards is the 1960’s and we found it really meaningful. It was through the theme that we learnt how the people in the 1960’s live and what their culture were like. To be honest, Jacqueline and I didn’t thought of participating in this year’s Singapore Blog Awards 2013 as we didn’t felt like we had the chance of even winning anything. However, a really good Blogger friend of ours, Mag, felt that we had the potential and nominated us for the Best Lifestyle Blog Category.
Seriously, there are a lot of Lifestyle Bloggers in Singapore and even then, the title of a “Lifestyle Blogger” can be rather generic and vague. As a matter of fact, lifestyle can cover anything and everything from topics like fashion and entertainment to topics like food and events. Hence, we were extremely surprised when the results were out and we ended up as the Top 10 Finalists for the Best Lifestyle Blog! Looking back, I guess we have come a long way now and it definitely wasn’t easy as the Best Lifestyle Blog Category was a hotly-contested one.
Although we didn’t clinch the title of “Best Lifestyle Blogger”, it didn’t matter to us because we know that all this wouldn’t even have happened if not for our Blogger friend, Mag, whom believed in us and nominated us. Hence, a very much of our success for this year’s Singapore Blog Awards 2013 is attributed to her. Also, the other group of people whom we would like to thank would be our family members and friends whom constantly and religiously voted for us every single day. Like we mentioned from the very first day, we don’t enjoy canvassing for votes because it is such a tedious and long process. If only the voting campaign was shorter and straightforward, I believe it would have levelled the playing field as Bloggers whom have more followers would definitely have a major advantage over those who don’t.
Nevertheless, we enjoyed ourselves at the Singapore Blog Award Ceremony 2013 as both Jacqueline and I wore quirky retro outfit that kinda attracted a little too much attention. It was a blast and it was really nice meeting new people and making new friends.
Here are just some of our photos that were taken during the Singapore Blog Awards Ceremony 2013.

On a separate note, ever since we started our Blog in December 2011, we have seen an increase in the number of visitors and pageviews on our Blog and we are extremely humbled by the statistics. If we compare our current year’s statistics to the previous year’s statistics, we are generally doing just fine but it is still not up to our expectations because we feel that there are so much things that we could have done better. Hence, we are currently doing a thorough review of our Blog and we have plans in the pipelines to carry out some BIG changes that we hope will bless YOU [our readers].
As the plans are underway, we won’t be revealing them anytime soon but we really hope that this would be the next breakthrough that we’re hoping for. Meanwhile, you probably might be able to note the change in our blogging/writing style and over the next few weeks and months, you might see the bigger changes eased in.
Hence, do stay tuned to us and should you have any thing that you wish to let us know, do feel free to leave us your comments or drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Last Thursday, we were invited to an exclusive Ice-Cream Party at the Ben & Jerry’s Dempsey Scoop Shop and we totally enjoyed ourselves. The awesome people from Ben & Jerry’s hosted us with so much fuzzy warmth and love that it was a night down memory lane for both Baby and I.
During the Ice-Cream Party, there were games being played and in one of the games, participants were blind-folded and they have to guess the flavour of the Ben & Jerry’s Ice-Cream. Definitely not easy but certainly a doable task for a fan of Ben & Jerry’s!
When Baby and I started dating more than 2 years ago, our favourite hangout spot was the Ben & Jerry’s Heeren Scoop Shop. Indulging in Ben & Jerry’s Ice-Cream then was a weekly affair. When Heeren underwent a major renovation, our love for Ben & Jerry’s Ice-Cream never once dwindled. In fact, all thanks to the generous promotions that NTUC Fairprice occasionally has, we often buy two pints of Ben & Jerry’s Ice-Cream to indulge at home while watching our favourite dramas or movies.
Our two favourite Ben & Jerry’s Ice-Cream flavours are Chunky Monkey and Triple Caramel Chunk. Of course, there are also other flavours such as the Maple Tree Hugger and the Peanut Butter Cup that we fancy a lot.
Well, we hope we ain’t making you salivate at this point in time but we are really happy to announce that we’re one of Ben & Jerry’s Moolets! Hence, if you’re a Ben & Jerry’s Fan like us, you will definitely be able to find out the latest news and insights that are happening at Ben & Jerry’s on our Blog!
So first up, we will like to announce to all of you that Ben & Jerry’s annual FREE CONE DAY will be taking place in 5 days time on 9 April 2013, Tuesday, from 12pm to 8pm at seven Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops! The location of the seven Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop are as follows:

If you’re wondering what’s the best flavour to have on Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day, we definitely would recommend Chocolate Therapy and if you just can’t get enough of it, all the major supermarkets in Singapore are currently having a promotion where you can stand a chance to win weekly lucky draw prizes by purchasing 2 pints of Ben & Jerry’s Ice-Cream [at least 1 have to be Chocolate Therapy flavour]. This promotion is ongoing from now till the end of April!
Apart from making your mouths and bellies happy on Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day, we also hope that you will join Ben & Jerry’s in doing some good for the community by raising funds for Project Happy Feet [Ben & Jerry’s fairness partner for Free Cone Day 2013]. Project Happy Feet is a Singapore-based not-for-profit organisation set up to empower the lives of underprivileged youths and children in Singapore and developing countries. It supports education-related initiatives and programmes through fund-raising that can positively impact them or their families.
To further aide Ben & Jerry’s in this cause, the CLEO editorial team will be adopting a Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop at VivoCity. The first 400Ben & Jerry’s fans in line at the CLEO adopted scoop shop need not worry about the long queues as they will each receive a copy of CLEO’s April issue! To add fudge to your ice cream, CLEO will be throwing in a complimentary three-month digital subscription of CLEO magazine for the first 200 kind fans who donates more than $30 to Project Happy Feet. Now, that’s something to look forward to if you’re heading to Ben & Jerry’s VivoCity Scoop Shop on Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day!

See you all at the Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day that will be taking place on 9 April, Tuesday!
We have an exciting piece of news for all you Winsomelifers because we’re launching our March Blog Giveaway, courtesy of the kind sponsorship from Huiji. So for our March Blog Giveaway, 3 Lucky Winners will be selected to win a 1KG Bottle of Huiji Honey worth SGD$7.50 [Image Courtesy of Fanpop]
In case you’re wondering, Huiji Honey is natural honey from China and this pure honey is distinctively different from others because of its pure concentrated form. Nutritious & delicious, honey can also be used for barbecues & for baking of cakes. Not only that, honey helps to relieve dryness in the mouth & also promotes good health.
Well, whichever way you intend to use honey, be it cooking up a storm in the kitchen or preparing a simple hearty breakfast, one handy ingredient that adds oomph is honey. Boasting a perfumed jasmine flower scent, Huiji Honey is definitely a must-have in the kitchens!
For those of us whom are honey-lovers out there, you would know that handling honey can be a rather messy affair and even with the use of a spoon to scoop up a dollop of honey from the jar, there will still be residue left on the rim and cap of the jar. Now, with Huiji Honey, you can enjoy the natural goodness of honey anytime anywhere and with much more ease because of its special cap that is designed to help prevent spillage.
This specially designed cap ensures that each squeeze of the bottle leaves no residue and it also allows you to squeeze out the exact amount of honey that you require; hence, leaving no room for unnecessary wastage! The bottle has also been designed to be quite environmentally friendly because you can reuse the bottle for other purposes like dispensing oil or soya sauce after using up all the honey.
If you’re wondering where you can find Huiji Honey, it is available at Giant, NTUC Fairprice, NTUC Finest, NTUC xtra, OG, Prime Supermarket, Sheng Siong, Shop N Save and ZTP and it is selling at an affordable price of SGD$7.50 for a 1KG Bottle and SGD$4.35 for a 500g Bottle.
Since we’re giving away Honey, we reckoned that we should share with you 3 ways that you can use honey in your daily life.
1. Using Honey for Cooking
Honey can be used in a variety of cooking methods. In fact, you can use honey to marinate chicken wings and pork ribs for that tinge of sweet aroma and flavour or you can whip up some homemade salad dressing by pouring equal parts of honey, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil into a jar, closing tightly with a lid and shaking all 3 to form a mixture. You can also use honey as a substitute for sugar and personally, we like our toasts spread with butter and honey!
Honey has a myriad of medicinal properties and one of them is for soothing sore throats and for relieving pain caused by burns. Because of its anti-microbial properties, honey helps keep infection at bay. If you’re experiencing a pretty bad sore throat, you can mix one to two tablespoonful of honey in a cup of warm water/warm green tea to drink as it helps to soothe the throat.
You will be surprised to find out that you can actually use honey to give yourself a facial treat. For a DIY [do-it- yourself] facial treatment, all you have to do is just apply some honey onto your face and gently rub the honey onto your dry skin in a circular motion with your fingers. Thereafter, wash off with warm water, wipe with a clean cloth, and your skin should be radiant-looking!
Check out a video by Annie Jaffrey [a Beauty & Lifestyle Blogger] about how you can use honey to do your own honey facial mask.
Having said so much about honey, we know you’r excited to win that 1KG Bottle of Huiji Honey. So, to participate in our giveaway, do check out the following link and submit as many entries as you can: http://awinsomelife.org/current-blog-giveaway/
Valentine’s Day is today and having planned for this very day three weeks ago, I am really happy that my effort is going to be paid off today. By the way, in case you’re wondering, this Blog Entry has been scheduled to be published at this time such that Baby doesn’t know that it is all a surprise. 🙂
Well, I have been thinking of doing something personalised for Baby and because I made a Heart-Shaped Swiss Roll Cake last December, I decided to bake her a Heart-Shaped Chocolate Chiffon Cake for this Valentine’s Day.
This was the Heart-Shaped Swiss Roll Cake that I made last December. Not sure if anybody wants the recipe but I will probably blog about it when I have the time.
Again, I’m not very sure whether I would want to blog about how I made the Heart-Shaped Chocolate Chiffon Cake and I will probably do so if there are tons of people asking me for the recipe.
Besides the Surprise Heart-Shaped Chocolate Chiffon Cake, Baby and I are having our Valentine’s Day Dinner at LENAS [Serangoon NeX] and a Bottle of our favourite Moscato D’Asti to go along with our dinner. So romantic right?! [hehe]. If you’re wondering why we chose to go to LENAS, it’s because we absolutely loved the place, the food, and the people.
What’s Valentine’s Day without gifts right? So during the third day of Chinese New Year [while Baby was still sleeping soundly in bed], I headed over to Raffles’ Cards n Such to buy NICI’s Jolly Mah Sheep Bride and Groom.
I’m pretty sure she will love this gift a lot because we have a whole lot of NICI Plush Toys in my room! This is our current collection of NICI’s Jolly Mah [their Sheep Community]. They are really cute and we have even named them!
By the way, the NICI Jolly Mah Sheep Bride and Groom was the one and only pair that was available at Raffles’ Cards n Such and I am really glad that I gotten it just in time for this occasion! They have a whole range of other NICI products too and this is perhaps the best place to hunt for NICI’s Plush Toys!
Well, I’m pretty sure Valentine’s Day will be a blast and since this Blog Entry is a surprise as well, here’s my declaration of love for her:
thank you for all the sacrifices that you’ve made. From the first day I met you, I knew that you were the one for me. Having gone through so much in our relationship over the last two years, I really do treasure and cherish the time that we spend together. I still remember those days when I was still in Officer Cadet School [OCS] during National Service [NS] and how you would always come over to my place to prepare with me, the cyalume sticks and dummy grenades that I need for my outfield training. In every milestones of my life, whether its NS, OCS, or ORD; you were there with me and I really appreciate having you in my life.
You have taught and shown me what “it is more blessed to give than to receive” means and because of you, I have also learnt the importance of finance management. Well, on this Valentine’s Day, I hope that you like what I have prepared for you and I look forward to spending the rest of my life with you, every single day, every single minute. Happy Valentine’s Day! Love you!
With Much Love, dEaRdEaR
Well, I hope this isn’t mushy for all you readers.
Time really flies and in the blink of an eye, it is already the month of February and we are really very grateful for all the wonderful opportunities that have been offered to us time and time again. If any of you remember, we recently organised an Exclusive Blog Giveaway that was sponsored by Sticky Ties and we are really happy to announce the following Winsomelifers who have won themselves a set of 5 Sticky Ties.
If you have missed out on our previous blog giveaway, fret not as we are currently giving away ToastBox Vouchers that are worth SGD $5. By the way, the ToastBox Vouchers can be utilised at all ToastBox Outlets and with the voucher, you can get yourself a nice breakfast set to kick-off your morning! To stand a chance in winning those vouchers, check out the following link: http://awinsomelife.org/current-blog-giveaway/
Anyway, in January alone, we attended more than 5 events and we received tons of requests for sponsorship write-ups. Well, due to our busy schedule, we might not be able to accommodate all of the requests but nevertheless, we really would like to thank all of our partners for giving us the awesome opportunity to write for them.
Well, today is the first day of the Chinese New Year and I believe many of you should be visiting your relatives and friends and getting Ang Pows too. Therefore, we are also expecting our readership to fall this month as everyone should probably be spending quality time with their family and loved ones. Here’s a gentle reminder for all the guys out there, Valentine’s Day is just 4 days away so don’t forget to plan a really sweet surprise for your other half! 🙂
Anyways, a few weeks ago, Baby and I went to Chinatown and it was really packed with people! Since we didn’t want to visit Chinatown nearing Chinese New Year because of the expected heavy human traffic + road closures, we went earlier but there were still quite a number of people. Although the weather wasn’t fantastic [because it was raining rather heavily], we had quite a fruitful time at Chinatown because we bought a couple of things and discovered some new stuffs that might just interest you. Hence, the remainder of this blog entry would very much be about our recent experience in Chinatown.
While walking along Chinatown, we spotted a couple of stores selling Ang Pows [Red Packets] and some of them were sold for quite a good price. We daresay that the Ang Pows that are being sold now are way better and attractive than when I was a kid.
After purchasing some Ang Pows which we felt were quite cute, we spotted a store that was selling embossed metal plates. Well, we’ve been thinking of how we could “decorate” our car and we actually did considered having customised paint designs but because it was too expensive, we went to search for alternatives. So, when we spotted this particular store, we decided to customised a metal plate to put up at the back of our car because it was really affordable. If you happen to spot our customised metal plate on the roads or just about anywhere, you could snap a picture and post it up on our Facebook Page via the following link: http://www.facebook.com/awinsomelife and you can stand to win a GV Gift Card worth SGD $38! Happy Hunting!
Presenting to you the World Largest Coin which requires two people to carry! The hole in the middle is for a pole to go through so that the coin can be carried on the shoulders of the people carrying it.
The Singapore Coins and Notes Museum also has a coin minting machine which you can try out for SGD $2. All you have to do is just head to the payment counter to purchase a “blank” coin and you will also be given a small gift pouch to put the coin in.
It so happened that on the day we visited Chinatown, it coincided with the Chinatown Lighting Up Ceremony. Well, it was nothing fantastic because the crowds were jostling with one another and the worst thing was, the event started extremely late!
Our current giveaway for a set of 5 Sticky Ties have ended and we are proud to announce the following winners whom have won themselves a set of 5 Sticky Ties that are proudly sponsored by Sticky Ties. The 5 Lucky Winners are:
All 5 Winners have been informed via Facebook Message and if your name is listed here, please do check your Facebook Message Inbox for more details about how you can receive the prize!
Last month, we also organised another giveaway where we gave away a Bottle of Moscato D’Asti by G.D Vajra. Well, one of our reader, Jason Koh, won the giveaway and we met up with him last week to present the prize to him.
Well, if you have took part in the previous giveaways that we have organised and you have not won, fret not because we are going to organise quite a number of giveaways that will be coming right up soon!
