At Caversham: We had an incredible up-close encounter with the koalas. CRITICAL TIP: If you want the “Koala Holding” photo experience, you must book your tickets immediately upon arrival (or in advance if possible). They were completely sold out by the time we got there! At Whiteman Park: We planned to take the vintage train, but it wasn’t operating. The Good: It is incredibly good value for money ($15 AUD for one big box!). The strawberries were sweet, juicy, and the kids loved hunting for the biggest ones. We still had time to catch the iconic red train all the way to the end of the 1.8km jetty and enjoy the incredible ocean views! We couldn’t stay for the sunset this time. We took the 8:30 AM ferry from Fremantle (Shed B) and spent the whole day exploring the island by foot, the hop on and off bus (especially ideal if you have young kiddos), and (of course) trying to get the perfect quokka selfie. Pro-tip: The quokkas seemed most active in the late afternoon, right before we caught our 4:30 PM return ferry. It's a day for ancestral worship, believed to be when ancestral spirits return to receive warm clothing for the upcoming winter. In addition to performing ancestor rituals, people burn paper clothing or money with clothing patterns to provide for their ancestors in the afterlife. He did some container fishing since longkang fishing was quite challenging for him. 😅 Massive appreciation to the playgroup teachers for the flawless planning and execution!
