Whether you’re serving your National Service [NS] or have previously served NS, this is an important announcement for all you National Servicemen out there so please read the following information carefully and take the necessary actions to safeguard the rewards that you are eligible for!
Due to your unwavering dedication and service to the Nation, the Ministry of Defence [MINDEF] will be giving you the opportunity to enjoy SAFRA Benefits with your family members.

From now till April 2013, please look out for your NS45 eligibility letters in the mail [yes, snail mail] because you’ll get to enjoy shopping, F&B, IT/gadgets and travel benefits at 5,000 outlets islandwide! Make sure you register for your NS45 SAFRA Vouchers by 28 February 2014 as the Vouchers are only valid until 30 March 14 [I know you have till 2014 to register but it is better to register for them early so that you can get the vouchers early and use them early].

From NS45 SAFRA 2013

Here is a table showing you the amount/value of SAFRA Vouchers that you may be entitled to.

From NS45 SAFRA 2013

In addition, as you have seen from the table above, National Servicemen who are currently serving Operationally Ready National Service (ORNS), or who have completed their ORNS training cycle in full, will also be offered a free SAFRA Membership for one year. Now, being a SAFRA Member is AWESOME because you and your family members will get to enjoy tons of additional privileges and benefits on top of the vouchers that you will be receiving.

To find out what are the various privileges and benefits you get as a SAFRA Member, check out the following link:
http://www.safra.sg/Indulge/Overview.aspx

As I am entitled to SGD $80 worth of SAFRA Vouchers and a free one year SAFRA Membership, here’s what I would do!

1). Since Baby have always wanted to check out the Adventure Cove Waterpark and S.E.A Aquarium at the Resorts World Sentosa, I might use the Vouchers to offset the price of 2 Admission Tickets for the Adventure Cove Waterpark and S.E.A Aquarium at the Resorts World Sentosa. So instead of paying SGD $116, I just have to pay SGD $36!

From NS45 SAFRA 2013

OR

2). To celebrate our monthsary, I might plan a romantic date by using the vouchers to treat Baby and myself to an awesome movie experience at Shaw IMAX which cost SGD $46 and use the rest of the vouchers for a sumptuous-licious dinner at Rocku Yakiniku Japanese Charcoal Grill Restaurant.

3). Use the Vouchers to treat my family members to a sumptuous-licious dinner at SAFRA Toa Payoh’s Kkongdon Korean Barbecue Restaurant.

OR

4). Organise a Karaoke Singing Session with my Army Buddies at SAFRA Toa Payoh’s KBOX and talk about the good ol’ army days.

There are certainly so many things I could do with the Vouchers and it is really hard deciding what I should do with it.

Maybe I should just go for Option 1 and then following which, treat my family members to a sumptuous buffet dinner at Park Royal On Beach Road Hotel because SAFRA Members are entitled to one complimentary buffet lunch or dinner with every 3 paying adults; and then after which, gather a few of my Army Buddies for a Karaoke Singing Session and utilise my SAFRA Membership at SAFRA Yishun’s Party World KTV to enjoy a 20% discount off the total bill! Now that’s more like it because I get to kill 3 birds with one stone on a single day!

Should I proceed with this plan, I would get to spend some quiet time with Baby and show my appreciation to her for being through thick and thin with me when I enlisted for NS till the day I ORD-ed, and now, serving my Reservist. Also, I could express my gratitude to my family members for their constant support of encouragement during my time as a National Serviceman Fulltime [NSF]. Last but not the least, I get to catch up with my Army Buddies and chill-out with them while singing Karaoke. So, the NS45 SAFRA Vouchers does comes in handy and so does the complimentary 1-year SAFRA Membership.

Anyway, SAFRA does brings NSmen closer together, check out some of the activities and things that you can do at SAFRA via the following link: https://awinsomelife.org/2012/10/28/safra-toa-payoh-openhouse-2012/

Last Thursday was Valentine’s Day and we celebrated the occasion with a fabulous dinner at LENAS Restaurant. We have previously blogged about LENAS Restaurant and we have dined there quite a couple of times. Since our previous Blog entry about LENAS Restaurant was quite sometime ago, we really would like to once again share about our excellent dining experience at LENAS Restaurant and at the same time, share our review of The Wedding Diary 2 movie that we caught at Shaw Cinema.
Here’s what we ordered while we were dining at LENAS Restaurant:

Salmon Sashimi & Hoegaarden Beer

From Valentine’s Day 2013

Our Review of the Dish:
The Salmon Sashimi was quite pricey but it was well worth it because of its thickness and freshness. Surprisingly, it complemented the Hoegaarden Beer pretty well.

Chawanmushi

From Valentine’s Day 2013

Our Review of the Dish:
Chawanmushi is nothing new and it tasted rather ordinary, very much like steamed eggs. The only disappointment was that the Chawanmushi was served cold.

Cheesy Chicken Cutlet with Waffles Fries and Coleslaw

From Valentine’s Day 2013

Our Review of the Dish:
Just by looking at the picture alone, you could see that the portion is really huge! Not only that, the chicken cutlet was of the right texture and was also very flavourful. The waffle fries and coleslaw that went along with the chicken cutlet was extremely satisfying for the stomach and it definitely whets up one’s appetite.

Spicy Chicken with Corn and Salad

From Valentine’s Day 2013

Our Review of the Dish:
Well, this dish fell slightly below our expectations. The presentation of the dish was fantastic but when it comes to the taste, it was slightly disappointing because the spiciness of the chicken weren’t spicy enough. In fact, the taste of the supposedly spicy sauce was more of sweet, sour, and spicy; unlike the sambal spiciness that we expected.

Matcha Ice-Cream with Red Bean, Dumplings & Mochi and a Glass of Iced-Tea

From Valentine’s Day 2013

Our Review of the Dish:
The Matcha Ice-Cream with the Red Bean and Dumplings were a very good way to end the satisfying dinner on a high note. However, we felt that the Mochi was a tad too sticky for our liking because we had quite a hard time removing the stuck Mochi in our teeth.

Our Overall Dining Experience:
Well, we had quite a bit of mixed feelings when it comes to the food because there were some dishes that were above our expectations while there were some that didn’t. The service was as usual, tip-top, and we have always enjoyed dining at LENAS Restaurant. The price was rather reasonable and we will definitely recommend LENAS Restaurant if you’re looking for a good place to chill-out and have a great meal with a bunch of friends. We will definitely return to LENAS Restaurant to tryout some of their other dishes!

Wedding Diary 2 [2013 Movie Review]

The Wedding Diary 2 was released exactly during Valentine’s Day and I treated Baby to the movie right after our fabulous dinner at LENAS Restaurant [just as you have read above].

Movie Plot [as extracted from Shaw’s Website]:
Soon after marriage, Weijie and Zhixin face pressure to conceive. When it finally happens, amidst preparations for the Full-month celebration of the new family member, Zhixin’s dad Colin’s business meets with investment failures and he suffers a stroke as a result. Zhixin has to step up to take over Colin’s business.

Between ensuring that her mum Alison does not have a mental breakdown and tending to her young family, Zhixin has to run the company and deal with insubordination from the veterans. It pains Weijie to see Zhixin under such stress and he quits his job to be a stay-home dad.

Over in Penang, Weijie’s dad Ah Sai heeds Colin’s advice and expands his humble salted-fish business. As his workload increases and he shuttles between Singapore and Penang, the harmonious family starts to disintegrate.

Meanwhile, Alison is taken aback by the sudden appearance of Reese, who claims to be Colin’s illegitimate daughter. Zhixin cannot come to terms with having a half-sister and even suspects Reese of seducing Weijie. At the same time, Weijie faces much pressure being a stay-home dad taking care of Tou Tou. There is talk that he is living off his wife and the couple ends up in a big quarrel.

Amidst all these problems, one day, both Reese and baby Tou Tou disappear! Has Reese anything to do with baby Tou Tou’s disappearance? Will the couple overcome their differences?

Our Review of the Movie:
Personally, we found the movie quite humourous but at the same time, we also felt that it lacked the element of surprise. The plot was rather predictable and we probably had quite high an expectation of the movie that we probably felt that it didn’t match up to The Wedding Diary 1. Nevertheless, the movie touched on a topic that is rather close to our hearts and it is worth catching if you have the spare cash and time.

Here’s a photo of Aniu and Elanne Kwong when we saw them doing their movie promotion at KSL City Square, Johor Bahru.

Stay tuned to more updates from us!

God bless!

Hello Everyone,
here is the much anticipated entry about what we did for Christmas and the places we visited.

24th December Christmas Eve:

Well, Baby and I both met up around 1000hours and we headed to Suntec City for breakfast! So our first breakfast for the day was the hearty MacDonald’s Breakfast Meal. And so after which, we went up to the Toys R Us Store to shop for Serene’s Baby Shower Gift [the reason why we specially went to Suntec City]. We got the 2-in-1 Baby Walker which cost about $49.95 and then went back down to buy Royce Chocolate for Ruby’s Christmas present.

From Christmas 2011

So having gotten all the presents, we headed to Klapsons Boutique Hotel where we stayed for a night. We initially thought of Studio M but having seen some really positive reviews about Klapsons, we decided to give it a try. By the way, Klapsons was Baby’s suggestion and we were glad we chose Klapsons over Studio M. You will see why in the following photographs:

This is the Lobby Area and the designs are really contemporary, modern, and chic

And this is their Front Desk Counter which is shaped like a globe and yes, its real water that you see below the structure

From Christmas 2011

And for us, we gotten the Executive Room. This is a picture of the washroom

The room itself and yes it comes with a JBL iPod Docking Station

And yes, you can actually have a look at the streets while showering. I’m not sure if the people could see inside from the outside but I am sure we can see outside from the inside..

From Christmas 2011

The sky shower is really fascinating because you can change the colour of the lighting while you shower and listen to the radio at the same time.

Some other bathroom amenities

From Christmas 2011

Oh, and I love their slippers. Its well-cushioned and feels so fluffy and warm.

From Christmas 2011

Mini Bar is complimentary! Comes with a can of coke, sprite, a bottle of tiger beer, fruit juice, and a packet of potato chips.

From Christmas 2011

And yes, the room comes with an expresso machine as well!

From Christmas 2011

Our room came with an external balcony but unfortunately, we didn’t get to use it as it was raining.

From Christmas 2011

The room comes with a flat screen TV, complimentary local calls, and even has a stationery set! Oh, and yes, there’s complimentary internet wifi connection as well!

From Christmas 2011
From Christmas 2011

Alright, this is quite impressive and a stunner. This card holder holds our room keys and even has a personalised welcome message upon our arrival.

From Christmas 2011

As you can see, Klapsons is a rather nice boutique hotel with lots of amenities and the service rendered is similar to that offered at Fullerton Hotel Singapore [I’m comparing with Fullerton because I used to work there]. By the way, Klapsons have 17 rooms and they are all designed differently from one another, like the New Majestic Hotel in Chinatown. The target customer of Klapsons is mainly corporate guests so room rates are actually cheaper during the weekends than during the weekdays. And yes, I cannot emphasize this enough, the service is very personalised and is similar to that of 5 stars hotels. In fact, many of the amenities that are available at Klapsons are only available in suites of 5 stars hotels which cost a few thousands for a night’s stay. So, do check out what Klapsons have to offer and do book early as they are always fully booked!

So, I planned the rest of the programme for the night of Christmas Eve, and for our dinner, we dined at Pizza Hut at Serangoon NeX Shopping Mall. Thanks to my brother, Alvin, whom sponsored us complimentary vouchers to dine there.

Yes, we had all of the above at Pizza Hut for free. Thanks to my really sweet brother!

And following which, as the surprise that I had planned for Baby could only take place at 2140 hours and it was only 1930hours after we had our dinner, I had to delay some time and we literally combed through the whole of NeX Shopping Mall. Thankfully, this took up quite a lot of time.

We went to the Pet Lover’s Centre to look at Pets!

When it was about time, I revealed my surprise for Baby and yes, I treated her to the Mission Impossible Movie at the Shaw Premiere Cinema, which is equivalent to GV’s Gold Class Cinema.

Baby filling up the lucky draw coupons. Really pray hard that we will be able to win the grand prize of a Macbook Air! =P

From Christmas 2011

Yes, you saw it right, we had a mini countdown party in the cinema theatre and were each served a glass of complimentary champagne.

From Christmas 2011
From Christmas 2011

While I must say that the service provided by the Premiere team were outstanding, I can’t say the same for the ticketing team. In fact, we were utterly disappointed with them and have emailed our feedback regarding this issue. Hopefully, we will be able to hear from them soon.

So after our movie, we headed to Ang Mo Kio Police Station to give Alvin a Christmas surprise! Baby and I were standing outside the Police Station wondering how best to surprise Alvin but in the end, because we looked really suspicious, our surprise gave way but nonetheless, we were glad to have cheered Alvin up, especially when he is on duty on Christmas eve just to protect our city. Hence, that’s what we did for Christmas Eve and there will probably be two more entries along the way so stay tuned~!
