I recently had the pleasure of dining at Platypus Cantina, a Mexican-inspired restaurant that promises a celebration of food and drinks.
Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted warmly by the friendly staff. The interior decor exuded a modern and colourful Mexican vibe, with vibrant murals adorning the walls and festive touches throughout. The lively music further added to the energetic atmosphere, setting the stage for a memorable dining experience.
The menu at Platypus Cantina boasts a fusion of classic Mexican dishes with a local twist, and I must say, it did not disappoint. Prepare to be spoilt for choice with the extensive array of appetisers, entrees, and beverages available at Platypus Cantina.
To kick off my culinary journey, I delved into the Trio Nachos. The plate arrived adorned with a colourful medley of toppings, including guacamole, 3-cheese queso dips, and pico de gallo. Each chip boasted a perfect balance of crunch and tenderness, and every bite was a harmonious explosion of flavours. The generous portion ensured that I could savour the nachos until the very last morsel.
Next, I ventured into the realm of fiery delights with the Angry Chicken Wings. The wings arrived gloriously glazed and infused with a tantalising blend of spices. The first bite revealed a delightful crispiness that gave way to succulent, tender meat. The spiciness danced on my palate, leaving a pleasant tingle of heat that was complemented by the accompanying cooling dip. These wings were a true testament to Platypus Cantina’s ability to infuse bold flavours into their dishes.
Continuing the feast, I indulged in the Battered Fish Tacos and it’s the best dish I had. The golden-brown batter encased the tender fish perfectly, providing a satisfying crunch. The accompanying fresh toppings added a refreshing element to each bite, and the tangy sauce tied all the flavours together harmoniously. The combination of textures and the marriage of flavours made this dish an absolute standout.
The Pulled Pork Quesadillas delivered a symphony of savoury satisfaction. The tortillas were griddled to perfection, encasing a generous filling of succulent pulled pork and melted cheese. Each bite was a decadent marriage of smoky, tender meat and ooey-gooey cheese.
For a comforting and hearty option, the Spanish Rice Bowl is definitely filling and meant for sharing. The bowl was brimming with aromatic rice, accompanied by flavourful beans and corn. Every spoonful was a delightful amalgamation of fragrant spices, perfectly cooked rice, and the satisfying umami of the meat.
The beverage menu at Platypus Cantina is extensive, featuring a variety of tequilas, margaritas, and other Mexican-inspired concoctions.
To accompany my meal, I indulged in one of their classic cocktails and had a glass of El Classico Margarita. The classic combination of tequila, lime juice, and a touch of sweetness provided the perfect balance of flavours. Sipping on this refreshing concoction added a layer of enjoyment and heightened the festive ambiance of the restaurant.
To sum it all up, Platypus Cantina offers a vibrant and enjoyable dining experience that truly captures the essence of Mexican-inspired cuisine. The fusion of flavours, coupled with the lively atmosphere and unique cocktails, makes for an exciting culinary journey. Each dish showcased a harmonious blend of flavours and textures, transporting me to the vibrant streets of Mexico.
I would gladly return to Platypus Cantina to explore more of their enticing menu and celebrate another fiesta for the taste buds.
