The movie, 47 Ronin, is based upon a 2013 American fantasy action film depicting a fictional account of the forty-seven Ronin, a real-life group of samurai in 18th-century Japan who avenge the murder of their master. Produced by Universal Studios, the film is directed by Carl Erik Rinsch and stars Keanu Reeves, Rinko Kikuchi, Tadanobu Asano, Hiroyuki Sanada and an ensemble of other Japanese actors.

Just so you know, a Ronin was a samurai with no lord or master during the feudal period [1185–1868] of Japan. A samurai became master-less from the death or fall of his master, or after the loss of his master’s favor or privilege.

Our Review of 47 Ronin

To be honest, while the movie was entertaining, samurai fans whom are well-versed with the spirit of bushido and the true story of the 47 Ronin would be quite disappointed with how the movie would turn out to be. The action scenes were far too few and too much emphasis is placed on unfolding the story through tons of dialogues.

On the other hand, if you’re a fan of fantasy films and you are not quite bothered with the actual account of the 47 Ronin, this film might just be what you need to kill time. After all, who cares so much about history right?

The movie duration is approximately 2 hours long and is rated PG13 for scenes that depicts violence.
